Southall Community Alliance (SCA) is a charity that has been working in Southall for over 30 years. We will be working with the Dormers Wells Learning Trust to develop the ‘Caretakers Cottage’ in an innovative project to improve the mental well-being of children and young people in Southall.
The ‘Caretaker’s Cottage’ is a former residence on the grounds of Dormers Wells Primary School and will host a team of trained professionals providing a wraparound, evidence based service to support early intervention of mental health and well-being, young people and families in our local community. The aim is for the centre to provide a welcoming and non-judgemental space to deal with the issues experienced by families and act as a hub, offering health and well-being support and activities for children aged 5-12.
SCA will offer a service at the Caretakers Cottage and link our vulnerable beneficiaries to external, non-clinical interventions and support in Southall. We seek an enthusiastic and experienced Well-being Outreach Worker to oversee the work of the project over the next three years.
We are looking for a candidate with excellent interpersonal skills, community engagement experience and an understanding of how socio-economic issues can affect mental wellbeing.
You will report to the SCA Director and be part of the growing SCA staff team.

Title: Well-Being Outreach Worker
Salary: £29,400 per annum (FTE salary = £36,750)
Hours: 28 hours per week (4 days per week)
Duration: Three year fixed term contract
Location: Southall Town Hall, 1 High Street, Southall, UB1 3HA
Holiday entitlement: 20 days per annum
Reports to: SCA Director
Main Duties:
- Managing the mental health outreach project and project related activities
- Attend and contribute to the project’s operational delivery group and steering group
- Work with staff, adults and young people at the Caretakers Cottage to develop flexible and realistic support plans, offering a person-centred approach when providing advice, information, practical and emotional support to young people
- Establishing supportive, empowering and respectful relationships with children and families
- Prepare and deliver a programme of outreach activities that help to reduce mental health pressures for children and their families ie trips/visits, referral to voluntary sector support, arts/creative opportunities etc
- Promoting work on social media or website to share good practice and project achievements
- Preparing agendas, minutes and other relevant materials relating to project
- Supporting the recruitment and supervision of volunteers
- Preparing monitoring and evaluation reports relating to project activities
- To ensure inclusion and diversity in all aspects of SCA’s operation and work
- To report to the SCA Board of trustees and advisory boards, as required
- To undertake other such duties as may be assigned by the SCA Director from time to time
Person Specification:
- Must have at least two years experience of working with organisations and people from diverse and disadvantaged communities
- At least two years experience of working with children and young people
- Experience of confidently using community outreach activities to engage with a diverse range of partners and stakeholders
- Ability to manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour when dealing with young people with complex needs
- Experience of managing safeguarding risks and understanding legal requirements for safeguarding adults and children
- Understanding of the relationship between mental health and social issues and how these issues may impact on physical, mental and emotional wellbeing
- Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive data, whilst ensure compliance with good safeguarding practice and GDPR
- Good understanding of mental health conditions and experience of working with vulnerable individuals
- Strong written and verbal communication skills including experience of using social media, updating websites and compiling digital newsletters/bulletins
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office packages: Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook
- Experience of drafting, presenting reports and designing and producing publicity materials.
- Well organised and able to prioritise and manage workload
- Ability to work out of hours and on weekends

The Heaney Cluster an intensively supported housing scheme for the most challenging customers in the borough. The majority of the customers come with a history of entrenched rough sleeping; often coupled with enduring mental health difficulties. The aim is to offer a home to those who would have difficulty finding accommodation because of their lifestyle choices involving extreme drug and alcohol misuse. The high support hostel caters for eleven service users with complex needs and is staffed 24 hours a day with the minimum of three staff on duty.
Team of 11 support workers. Two Enhanced Support workers, Two Team Leaders, Housing Officer, Team Therapist, Move on Coordinator. Night support workers.
The hours are 40hours per week and it is shift work.

About this key role

Job Title: Easter European Floating Support Worker

We are recruiting for Floating Support Worker who will support the Ascent Pan London Service in building sustainable referral pathways and joint working protocols with a range of partners working with survivors of domestic abuse
You will provide capacity-building in the form of advice, advocacy, support, and briefings across the London boroughs to statutory agencies and community organizations around the needs of Eastern European domestic abuse survivors, to embed best practice across our communities.
It is desirable for candidates to be proficient in one or more Eastern European languages.
You will have proven experience of providing direct emotional and practical support to women as well as up-to-date knowledge of legislation relating to survivors of gender-based violence. You will have excellent casework skills, good written and verbal communication skills, clear professional boundaries and be a proactive team player. All candidates must demonstrate a commitment to the feminist values of empowerment and equality which underpin all of our work.
The post holder will provide a high-quality personal welfare support service to Eastern European survivors of domestic abuse and other forms of violence and abuse and their children. The post holder will empower Eastern European survivors by providing them with emotional and practical support, including support to access safe accommodation.

Barnardo's Transition, Preparation and Moving-On Service is looking for an experienced Residential Care Worker for its 4 bed Children's home.
This is a service commissioned by Liverpool City Council to deliver Children's residential support in line with statutory requirements utilising therapeutic approaches. The service consists of one 4 bed Children's home.
The service aims to provide a nurturing environment within our high-quality home, which will meet the needs of children and young people who have experienced trauma, neglect, rejection, and whose basic needs have not been met.
The home offers our young people a safe space to enjoy themselves with activities such as karaoke, pamper, movie and games nights. Our young people are also encouraged to enjoy activities such as horse riding, going the cinema, indoor adventure parks, museums, theatre shows, youth clubs, fairs/theme parks i.e. Alton Towers, Blackpool and Southport.
We always ensure that our young people have the opportunity to enjoy at least one holiday/short break.
We support our young people to learn skills such as cooking meals and baking.
In line with Barnardo's EDI awareness and ethos, we take part in cultural theme nights once a month.
On top of that, Saturday is takeaway night, so you even get a night off from cooking!
As a Transition home, our role is to support the young people in our care to either return back to their own families, move onto foster care, or move into semi-independence. The support we provide is vital in supporting our young people in their next chapter. You would play a huge part in this exciting role in changing the lives of our young people.
The home provides a truly therapeutically focussed environment that can meet the needs of young people who require support to manage their behaviours safely, develop their resilience and prepare them for the demands of future life with their own families or in other settings.
As a Residential Care Worker you will support the young people on a rota basis, covering the following:
- 3 on 4 off pattern across the year, with rotas completed at least one month in advance.
- Sleep ins - approximately 2 per month with an additional payment of approximately £68/sleep,

Your role as a Residential Care Worker:

You will be an allocated keyworker for one of the four young people, acting in the capacity of a corporate parent. The outcome of this being that you support the management team to ensure the collation and coordination of supporting information, pertinent to the young person's everyday life, which will be used to demonstrate the journey of the child whilst residing at the home.
On a rota basis, you will also share the responsibility (alongside other Residential Care Workers) of being allocated as shift leader. This ensures each day is purposeful and coordinated, to enhance opportunities for positive achievements and outcomes for the young people.
You will support young people to enhance their social opportunities by accessing hobbies & activities in the home and in the community. This could include supporting young people to access meals out/cinema/theatre/activity clubs etc and engage with fun nights in e.g. Movie/pamper/ games nights etc.

What could my day look like?
The Education Worker role is a frontline, fast-paced and rewarding role where no two weeks will look the same. A typical day will have different activities, possibly spread between the IntoUniversity centre, partner schools and the offices of a corporate partner.

The Role

Our Family Support Workers are given the opportunity to complete a number of diverse training courses in their first 12 months, including but not limited to: Mental Health First Aid, Makaton, counselling skills, and Introduction to Play.
The programme aims to provide a building block for you to individually tailor your own learning and development needs, with all family support workers having a foundation level of skills within their first year.
