Hours of work: 1 hour and 30 minutes per month for 6 months.
Monthly salary: Volunteers remunerated £10 voucher per session with their student**
**Remuneration will be based only on one session per month. Any additional mentoring session within that month will be considered voluntarily unless discussed with their mentee and the Off the Curriculum.
Working base: Remote (in-person if suitable).

Role Description:
As a Mentor, your role will involve assisting your mentee in achieving various objectives, such as:
- Enhancing their interpersonal and employability skills.

Role requirements:
We are looking for someone who can commit 1 hour and 30 minutes per month to mentor individuals or a group of young people on a project of their choosing around your area of expertise.
Welcome applicant expertise from a range of industries are encouraged; however, currently we are focussing on STEM topics including:
- Astronomy - Solar Winds, rocket design
- Psychology - Clinical Psychology and Mental Health
- Neuroscience - Brain computer interfaces

Essential skills:
- Advance communication skills, both written and oral.
- Compassionate, engaging, approachable and capable of active empathic listening, to
- foster a positive mentor-mentee relationship.
- Passion to motivate and coach, understanding needs and capabilities of the programme participants.
Desirable skills:
- A proven track record in a profession with or an equivalent qualification.
- Familiarity with the G-suite - Google docs, Google Sheets, Google Meet.
- Experience in the education sector and collaborating with young people (ages 15-18).

Community Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (CARAS) is a charity that supports refugees and people seeking asylum who live in south London, helping them to play their full part in the community. We offer a range of individual and group support to improve the holistic wellbeing of people who have a background of forced migration, providing them with tools to build lives filled with value, meaning and purpose in the UK. About the CARAS ESOL Team:
COVID has posed unprecedented challenges to refugees and people seeking asylum in London. Many of those we meet have arrived alone in the UK and have been living in contingency accommodation for many months. Our ESOL team offer English language classes to adults at a wide range of levels. This provides vital skills, opportunities and social contact and is crucial for enabling people to attend college and access other services in the future.
About the Role:
CARAS is looking for volunteer ESOL Teaching Assistants to support our online Zoom classes on Monday mornings:
Adult ESOL Speaking & Listening at Entry 2+ Level: 11.30am to 1pm (plus a 15-minute debrief)
Please note that ESOL classes do not run during school holidays, and we follow Wandsworth Council term dates.
As a volunteer ESOL Teaching Assistant your role is flexible and varied. It will involve supporting the Adult ESOL Teacher in the delivery of online Zoom classes, as well as providing learners with one-to-one or small-group support.
Volunteer tasks and responsibilities:
Providing learners with one-to-one or small group support within ESOL classes;
Helping learners build confidence in digital literacy;
Attending and contributing to volunteer debriefs after each session;
Making use of any community languages you may know to help students during the class;
Working collaboratively as a team and helping to shape the lessons;

Requirements:
Essential:
To be 18 years or older;
An interest in education and English language teaching;

The ability to volunteer on Tuesday mornings during Wandsworth term time for a minimum of three months;
Currently resident in the UK;
Able to provide five years’ worth of addresses, and willing to undergo a DBS check;

About CARAS:

About the CARAS Adult Team:
In the post-pandemic environment, CARAS is responding to the role of digital literacies in our programme delivery to learners of asylum-seeking and refugee background. In contrast to the UK essential Digital skills framework, we have built in language inclusion to create a participatory learning course for Essential Digital Literacies for learners who are new to reading and writing in English. The individuals joining CARAS are highly diverse, with different countries of origin, linguistic and educational backgrounds. We have observed over the last year that many CARAS community members have limited digital skills, particularly in regard to using computers. Community members have highlighted that computers are important for many individuals to achieve their educational and employment goals, whilst increasing confidence and independence. We have co-designed a digital skills program in partnership with CARAS community members to improve computer literacy and skills, focusing on basic computer literacy.
About the Role:
We are seeking two volunteers based in London to teach our lively computer classes in Tooting every Monday 9:00-11:00. Volunteers will lead the sessions with guidance from the CARAS ESOL Teacher and will work closely with our community members to build their skills and confidence using computers. The Digital Literacies course at CARAS is built around Pre-entry to Entry 2 levels in English. Volunteers will be supporting individuals with tasks such as: getting to know how to use a computer, using the internet, setting up an email address, and using Microsoft office. We intend to fold employability sessions, including CV writing and job searching, into these sessions.
Volunteer Tasks and responsibilities:
· Lead on the delivery of sessions with support from CARAS’s Essential Digital Skills Teacher.
· Assist with the logistical set up of the sessions, supporting CARAS staff where needed.
· Work collaboratively as a team and assisting to shape the project.
· Create class registers and records as required.
· To attend and contribute to volunteer pre- and de-briefs at each session.
· To act as a positive role model and set standards of behaviour when volunteering.
· Support people to develop their knowledge and skills and encourage and inspire participants to reach their full potential.
· To assist participants to both, recognise and celebrate their achievements.
· To challenge negative attitudes and behaviour in an appropriate manor.
· Advocate for the rights of asylum seekers, refugees and migrants with not for them.
· Adhering to CARAS Confidentiality policy, Health & Safety policy, Equal Opportunities policy and all other policies as relevant.
Requirements:
· To be non-judgemental, and able and willing to engage with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
· To be female identifying.
· Have a good understanding of how to use a computer.

WAY is Swindon's young person-led charity, creating a way for lasting change in our communities.
We are passionate about journeying alongside young people who face disadvantage, believing in their potential as they take steps towards a more hopeful future.
Mentoring begins by taking time to get to know the young person, identifying their strengths and aspirations as well as their needs and the challenges they face. YMCA Dialogue is a BACP Accredited service, providing counselling services in schools since 1994. Dialogue has built an excellent reputation with schools, professionals and commissioners and the service has developed and expanded over the years, now operating across Brighton & Hove, East and West Sussex and Surrey. We require all our counsellors to abide by the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions. All counsellors are expected to be a member of the BACP (or student member if training), or other appropriate professional body (e.g. UKCP).
We are looking for two qualified counsellors, one for each of the below schools:

As a Volunteer Counsellor you will provide a high standard of clinical counselling provision to children and young people within a school or community setting.
In this role you will see up to three clients a week in their designated school setting (that is, three clients a week as allocated by the Dialogue Counsellor in the school).
Top Responsibilities
- Work within all YMCA DLG policies and procedures at all times and to abide by the Code of Conduct.
- Follow YMCA Dialogue Safeguarding Procedures
- Attend regular clinical supervision with a Dialogue designated supervisor.
- Always read the assessment before meeting a client for the first time.
- Keep suitable case records according to Dialogue policy and using the designated Dialogue systems, comply with legal and other requirements, ensuring that all project case records and files are maintained and securely held.
- Carry out administrative tasks associated with the counselling service; including monitoring and evaluation tools.
- Bring any concerns to the Dialogue School Counsellor and the School Project Manager, or Therapeutic Services Manager.

- Counselling or Psychotherapy qualification, minimum Level 4.

Commitment and Expectations

- Give a minimum of three months’ notice when wishing to leave the Service and to abide by the policy when leaving as set down in the Dialogue Guidelines.
- Complete all mandatory trainings within the first six months of volunteering. Safeguarding Children e-learnings Level 1 and 2 must be completed before seeing clients.
- Attendance on the Safeguarding Policy into Practice workshop within three months of starting.

Belong’s vision is of hope, rehabilitation and recovery for victims and perpetrators of crime. We inspire change by providing long term, individualised responses to conflict and crime through restorative Justice, psychotherapy, mentoring, and training for criminal justice professionals.
We have exciting opportunities available for committed, compassionate people to volunteer as one-to-one mentors with us. Volunteers will work with young people and adults serving prison sentences at HMP Brixton, HMPYOI Feltham and HMPYOI Isis or serving community sentences in London. Successful applicants will have a qualification in criminology, psychology or a relevant area, and/or at least one year of experience working with children, young people or adults facing disadvantages. For genuine occupational requirement reasons successful applicants must be aged 21 years or over. (exemption under the Equality Act 2010 Part 1 Schedule 9).
One-to-one mentors will build a professional working relationship with individuals as they serve their prison or community sentence and work towards a crime free future. Mentoring sessions will take place once per week or fortnight, for one to two hours per session. During the sessions volunteers will offer support to individuals to assist them to access education; training and employment; develop life skills; work through previous traumas and build positive relationships. Mentoring sessions will take place during weekdays or weekends. Volunteers need to be able to commit to the role for at least one year.
Interviews for the role will take place prior to the training dates and selection for the role confirmed after participation in the training.
Successful applicants will be invited to participate in an initial two-day training course at either HMP Brixton, HMPYOI Feltham or HMPYOI Isis from 9:30am-4pm on Saturday 16th and Saturday 23rd November. Please note: spaces on the training course are limited and we may close the recruitment before the closing date if spaces become full.
Prison security vetting and/or an enhanced DBS check are required for this role and all volunteers will be supported to undergo this. After vetting processes are complete, further training will be provided at the prison in which mentors are volunteering, with a range of dates available.
Full support and supervision will be provided to volunteers. We particularly encourage applications from people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds and from people with lived experience of the criminal justice system.

Learning and Development Accessibility Volunteer Role Profile
To deliver our mission we need to support our workforce to develop and grow, no matter how they learn or what their needs may be. We are looking for a volunteer to join our Learning and Development team to support us in achieving this goal.
You will play a pivotal part in ensuring our content is accessible to individuals of all abilities, thereby fostering an inclusive learning environment.
Initially, you will support us reviewing our mandatory compliance courses to help us make them more accessible. Your observations and insights will be invaluable in supporting us to make continuous improvements.
The types of things you will be involved in but not limited to are:
- Support us to evaluate the current accessibility of our training courses, resources, and materials.
- Collaborate with content creators to integrate accessibility best practices into the design and development process.
- Use your previous experience to offer guidance on the use of assistive technologies and adaptive strategies.
- To support the team to promote awareness of accessibility best practices for staff and volunteers via creation of resources, providing information to assist in knowledge sessions or one-to-one advice within the team.
- To help advocate for the importance of accessibility within the organisation.
We are flexible and open to discussing how much time you can commit to the role and, as the expert in this field, what you think will be needed.
The role is very much open to being home based with opportunities to visit our Bristol or London offices if located nearby.

Family Lives operate a free confidential helpline for anyone experiencing difficulties in their family or relationship.
Our volunteers take calls from parents and carers on a wide range of subjects, whether that might be issues around separation and divorce, isolation, depression, bullying and abuse, dealing with behavioural problems, etc. You can find out more about our services on our website.
We are a national service with home-based call takers county wide and we also have a call centre in Old Hatfield Hertfordshire. Once trained volunteers sign up for a weekly 4-hour shift comprising 3 hours ‘online’ followed by a debrief session with your supervisor which can lasts around half to one hour.
We recruit volunteers with a range of backgrounds and experiences though we ask that volunteers have experience of parenting or working with children and young people, are good listeners and have a willingness to learn. Being remote it will be very important that you have a PC/laptop, plug in headset with microphone, good Wi-Fi and a private place to work from home.
You need to be a UK resident.
Our training programme is excellent and will give you the opportunity to develop the skills needed to offer empathic support and guidance to callers whatever their circumstances; all shifts are overseen by a regular shift supervisor who provides ongoing remote support. We ask our volunteers to make a commitment of 1 year (with time off for holidays), obviously we understand that circumstances sometimes make that an impossibility but can be helpful to know at the outset that is the general expectation.
We have call taker training sessions that run over five sessions and is done remotely connecting you via a Microsoft Teams link.
You would need to be able to attend all five sessions from one of these remote training groups and be available on four occasions to listen into calls, this can be organised remotely.

Our boutique shops raise vital funds for Save the Children. Your knowledge of fashion, designer items and your local networks can bring in even more donations, helping to raise even more money for Save the Children’s work in the UK and around the world.
