About Us
Stroke Association. Rebuilding lives after stroke.
When stroke strikes, part of your brain shuts down. And so does a part of you. That’s because a stroke happens in the brain, the control centre for who we are and what we can do. It happens every five minutes in the UK and changes lives instantly. Recovery is tough, but with the right specialist support and a ton of courage and determination, the brain can adapt.
We believe everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke. And it’s a team effort to get there.
We provide specialist support, fund critical research and campaign to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support to rebuild their lives.
We’re working to improve the diversity of our team. Because we know that individuality leads to a richer experience for our people and better support for those affected by stroke.
We strongly encourage people from all backgrounds to apply. And we’re particularly looking to increase the number of applications from those with lived experience of stroke and those from under-represented communities.
Every five minutes, stroke destroys lives. Help us rebuild them and join our team.
In 2019, we developed a bold new corporate strategy so that we can rebuild more lives after stroke and make a bigger difference to people’s lives.
To help us deliver our strategy and make a real difference, we are looking to recruit talented people to a number of new roles.
If you would like to support stroke survivors to rebuild their lives, we want to hear from you!

We are looking for a volunteer to support a well established Parkinson's UK group, monthly meet up in Torquay. Parkinson's UK call this role 'Cafe Coordinator' and this is the role title listed on our website.
The current lead volunteer is in need of some support in order for the group to keep going, otherwise the group is likely to close at the end of this year.
The monthly meet-up is for anyone affected by Parkinson's. Family members, carers and friends are all welcome. Connect with others, pick up some information, enjoy a complimentary cuppa, a chat and a few giggles!
We are looking for a volunteer to facilitate and host the event bi-monthly (or more or less!)
Sometimes there are guest speakers but the group is very informal and is ultimatley a space for people to come together for a cup of tea and biscuits, to gain community and support from other people.
The drop in takes place on 3rd Thursday of month, 1-2 pm. The volunteer would need to arrive at 12.45pm to esure the room is ready and to meet and greet people as they arrive.
Tea and coffee is provided by the venue and people make a donation to the venue for this.
If you are interested in giving something back to your community and supporting this wonderful group to continue we would love to hear from you. We would then like to meet up to discuss the role further (no formal interview).
You will be supported through the volunteer induction process by a Parkinson's UK staff member who will be there to make this as easy as possible for you.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.

Home-Start believes that the earliest years make the biggest impact. Our work is with families who have (at least) one child under five and that are facing challenges such as loneliness, postnatal depression, or multiple births. We train volunteers to visit the family once a week, supporting them in a variety of emotional and practical ways. This is for 2 to 3 hours a week, one day per week.
By visiting a family in their own home, our volunteers represent a lifeline to families who are struggling to cope. They offer non-judgemental, confidential support in a way that is tailored to the needs of that individual family. By doing this, our volunteers support them to grow in confidence, strengthen their relationships with their children, and forge links within their local community.
Our approach works because our volunteers have parenting experience or experience with children, and they understand the stresses and strains of life. They are there to listen; not to judge.
To volunteer with Home-Start, we ask that you are a good listener, have an interest in supporting families, and are able to volunteer in the daytime for a minimum of 6 months. You should have experience with children/families, a desire to help and support others and have a 'can-do' attitude.
You might not think it, but your lived experience, your unique background, and the languages you speak, could hugely benefit the families we support. You can work alongside them to help them regain their confidence and resilience. In doing so, you can directly increase the chance of local children growing up happier and healthier.
Full training is provided (25- hour course) and an enhanced DBS check will be required.
Languages particularly needed: Albanian, Arabic, Syrian Arabic, Farsi, Dari, Bengali, Pashto, British Sign Language.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
