Our team works hard to provide fun-packed Special Days or quiet breaks, a chance to meet heroes and legends, or the opportunity to fulfil a lifelong dream. In the toughest times, Willow creates tailored experiences that give people a boost and bring families closer together. We are the only UK charity that supports seriously ill 16 to 40-year-olds, creating magical moments which become shared memories that last a lifetime.
Since Willow was founded in 1999, we have provided more than 21,000 Special Days, Special Breaks and Special Treats, but we see this as only the first part of Willow’s journey and a base for further growth. We currently provide around 1,000 treats, days or breaks each year which means that we only reach a small percentage of those who would benefit from our services. We would love to be able to do more.
This is a pro bono appointment which brings rewards and if you would like to make a difference in our world, this is a great opportunity to bring your skills, knowledge and experience to help us deliver on our mission.
Travel expenses directly incurred in our roles as Trustees on official business can be reimbursed. Board and Committee meetings are held in person or remotely with in person meetings normally held in London.
Trustees are appointed for an initial three-year term with the opportunity to extend for a further two, three-year periods.
The time commitment is to attend 4 Board meetings a year plus relevant committee meetings. There are always opportunities to become more involved with specific projects, and trustees are strongly encouraged to attend at least 1 Willow fundraising event each year.
Specifics about the role
Willow seeks to appoint a new Board member as part of our succession planning. We are keen to hear from candidates who have skills or expertise in fundraising:
- Worked as a senior fundraiser in a charity with a range of public fundraising methods, and are used to setting targets and reviewing the effectiveness of different streams of income. At Willow, you will help to scrutinise and enhance our fundraising strategy and may have experience of data insight and interrogation
You will be joining a dedicated team of Trustees. We currently have 10 board members with a variety of backgrounds and experience including finance, investments, fundraising, PR and communications, management consultancy, events, and legal. Our trustees work closely with the Chief Executive, leadership team and senior members of the team.

What you’ll do
Guided by the Parkinson’s community, we’ve shaped our strategy ‘Every Parkinson’s Journey’ for 2023 to 2026. Our strategic aims are focused on improving access to health and care; improving our community offer and continuing with our groundbreaking research.
We're a growing organisation with 605 employees, 4000 volunteers and a projected income of £43m. The Board of Trustees and its committees govern the charity with diligence and enthusiasm and make sure we're financially stable, well-run, and delivering what the Parkinson's community really needs.
Our trustees and independent committee members come from a wide range of backgrounds and have diverse experience, which we draw on to guide and oversee the charity’s work. Trustees share this responsibility both individually and collectively. This requires Trustees to contribute in an informed and active way to all aspects of the Board’s work.
What you’ll bring
To complement our collective skillset we are looking for a new Trustee to join the Board (currently comprising 13 Trustees) who is, or who has significant and recent experience as a Parkinson’s health and care professional in the UK, to help oversee the charity’s activities in health and social care.

- A commitment to Ashden and its mission.

Trustee Responsibilities (Including Treasurer)
Trustees will ensure the proper management of Ashden in accordance with its charitable objects and charity law, including by:
- Ensuring that Ashden is carrying out its purposes for the public benefit.
- Ensuring that Ashden complies with its governing documents, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
- Holding the CEO and executive team to account for Ashden’s performance, effectiveness, and the proper management of resources.
- Acting in Ashden’s best interests, including safeguarding the good name and values of Ashden.
- Acting with reasonable care and skill.
- Contributing to the development of Ashden’s strategies.
In addition to the above, each trustee will use their specific skills, knowledge or experience to help the Board reach sound decisions. Trustees may also help with external relations as appropriate, such as fundraising or speaking at events.
Treasurer-Specific Responsibilities
- Chairing the Finance and Operations Committee (a subcommittee of the board) in line with its terms of reference and delegated responsibilities. These include the scrutiny of financial and risk management by the executive team, and leading on the budget approval and audit process.
- Reporting the outcomes of Finance and Operations Committee meetings to the Board of Trustees.
- Making recommendations to the board on financial and risk management matters.
- Acting as the main point of contact between the executive team and trustees on financial matters.
Trustees serve for a term of three years which may be renewed a maximum of three times.

Catalyst Support works to promote the mental health and well-being of people in Surrey, improving lives in terms of stability and well-being, with the aim of reducing harm to themselves, their families and the community. Who we are.
The National Benevolent Charity is a grantmaker. We make grants to individuals experiencing poverty and to organisations aiming to relieve poverty.
We are one of only a handful of benevolent charities to which people experiencing poverty can apply directly from anywhere in the UK. Our applicants include refugees, women escaping domestic abuse, people from the travelling community, working families on low incomes, care leavers and pensioners.
Our grants to organisations focused on Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Swindon, and Bristol. Our successful applicants include food banks, housing and homeless shelters, women’s refuges, and money advice organisations.
We ensure our grants are used to help people survive and thrive, live in reasonable comfort, and improve their physical and psychological well-being by providing home essentials, financial, emotional, and practical support, advice, and training.
We collaborate with other funders and referral agencies to offer the widest support possible and aim to be inclusive and equitable in our grant giving. In 2023, we awarded grants to 729 individuals and 42 organisations.
The charity employs three staff members, led by the Chief Executive, Ali Russell. Total income and endowments for the year ending 31 December 2023 were £ 867,742, with expenditures £1,108,271. Assets are just under £24m.
About the role.
To complement the skills and experience of the existing Trustees, we are looking for a new board member with expertise in finance. This board member will be a qualified accountant and hold a senior strategic leadership position as our new Finance and Investment Committee Chair. They will need to attend all Full Board and all Finance Committee meetings.

This is an exciting time of accelerated growth for MediCinema. We are in the process of a strategic expansion, delivering on the ambition to reach more beneficiaries by growing our network of in-hospital services. As part of this we are also developing new partnerships and building new cinemas, with the first one opening at Alder Hey Children's Hospital later this year. Fuelling this growth is our success in fundraising and income generation, with our income reaching a significant £1.3 million in 2023, alongside winning significant long term capital grants.
For this trustee role, we are specifically seeking candidates who have led a charity through a significant period of growth i.e. from small to medium size (c £1.5 - £5m), and are therefore able to bring contemporary knowledge, guidance, and insight, to support us in delivering our ambitious vision. Experience of income growth and diversification, and/ or, the UK Public Health sector is of special interest to us.
· To have a substantial background and proven success as a charity CEO or COO, with a track record of growing organisational impact, income, and profile.
· To bring innovative thinking and energising drive as the designated Charity Trustee, developing the knowledge of MediCinema’s Board and Exec in regard to sector best practice.
· Via your input, to help ensure the value and quality of our initiatives, across all functions as we grow, working closely with the CEO, and Senior Leadership Team.
· Use your experience of leading organisational growth to support MediCinema in developing its culture and systems to enable successful scaling and expansion.
All Trustees of MediCinema
All trustees have the following generic responsibilities.
· Ensuring that the organisation pursues its stated objects (purposes), as defined in its governing document, by developing and agreeing a long-term strategy.
· Ensuring that the organisation complies with its governing document (i.e. its trust deed, constitution or memorandum and articles of association), charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
· Ensuring that the organisation applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its charitable objects (i.e. the charity must not spend money on activities that are not included in its own objects, however worthwhile or charitable those activities are) for the benefit of the public.
· Ensuring that the organisation defines its goals and evaluates performance against agreed targets.
· Safeguarding the good name and values of the Charity.
· Ensuring the effective and efficient administration of the organisation, including having appropriate policies and procedures in place.
· Ensuring the financial stability of the organisation, and
· Protecting and managing the property of the charity and ensuring the proper investment of the charity’s funds
Time Commitment
The standard term for a Trustee is 3 years, with a maximum of 9 years (consecutive or non-consecutive). MediCinema's board currently meets five times per year, including one fully online meeting and four hybrid meetings held in a central London location. We strongly prefer that trustees attend at least 50% of the hybrid meetings in person.

We are looking for a talented and committed fundraising specialist to join the Board of Trustees at the Ecology Centre.
Like many charities, effective fundraising is the life-blood of supporting the sustainability of our charity such that we can achieve our vision and mission. We are therefore looking for a dynamic and innovative fundraising specialist to join our Board of Trustees. We are looking for an individual with drive and passion that aligns with the purpose of our charity and who can help to support our strategic direction and commercial success with a skillset that complements those of our existing Trustees.
We are looking for an individual with proven experience of executing successful fundraising campaigns, who can provide support with the following key areas:
- Strategy development: Working with the Board of Trustees and General Manager to shape an effective fundraising strategy, fostering long-term sustainability and growth in line with our values
- Strategy execution: Support as necessary the process of fund identification and grant writing to secure key funds and grants for the charity
- Partnership Development: Targeted and strategic identification of partnerships to advance our goals and support to manage key stakeholders within our key funders
- People support: Providing expert advice as necessary to the General Manager and operational team to ensure alignment at all levels.
Previous experience in environmental and/or third sector roles is welcome but not necessary, and nor do we consider it a requirement that you have previous experience as part of a Board or Executive Committee.

Watford Mencap supports over 600 people with learning disabilities and their families in South West Herts. They are affiliated with Royal Mencap but are a self-funding and independent local charity that has provided services and support to local families for the past 70 years. They currently operate across 10 sites in Hertsmere, Three Rivers and Watford. It’s an exciting time of change for the charity, having recently bought a new building to bring together its head office and children’s centre along with their plans to develop a range of brand-new short breaks services in this exciting new central hub for the charity in Watford. The Ecology Centre is looking for a Chair to lead our community and environmental charity in collaboration with the Board of Trustees.
We are looking for an individual who shares our values and who brings suitable commercial acumen and leadership skills to drive strategic growth and effective governance. As Chair of the Board of Trustees, you will play a critical role in designing and overseeing the strategic direction of our charity in collaboration with the Board of Trustees and General Manager. You will act as Chair to a close-knit, committed Board of Trustees, ensuring robust financial oversight, governance and innovation. We are looking for an individual who can help to bring our mission and vision to life and who can oversee the effective commercial management of the charity. Proven leadership experience within the charity sector is preferred but we are open to hearing from any individuals who can bring a proven track-record and understanding of leadership and financial management and who fits our values. Key responsibilities will include:
- Providing strategic leadership to the charity in collaboration with the Board of Trustees
- Guiding the short and long-term strategic development of the charity
- Assuring and strengthening effective governance, including effective controls and monitoring of financial health, risk management and legal compliance
- Building strong relationships with key stakeholders (in the community and beyond) to establish best practice sharing and an effective fundraising strategy

The Sir Jules Thorn Charitable Trust is a grant-making charity endowed by Sir Jules Thorn, who formed one of the UK’s largest electrical businesses. Since its foundation in 1964, the Trust has so far pledge £120m to support projects at many universities, hospitals and charities across the UK.
In keeping with the founder’s wishes, the Trust’s largest grants support translational medical research undertaken in the UK’s leading medical schools and NHS organisations. The Trust also supports projects to integrate and improve care for people living with physical or mental ill health and to help smaller charities provide practical and emotional support to people living with ill health or disability, and to their families and carers.
Who we are looking for.
The Board is seeking to appoint a new Trustee to contribute to the Trust’s work and the development of its strategy for 2025-29. We are looking for someone with legal expertise (ideally with knowledge of the law governing charities and foundations, although this is not a requirement).
Previous experience of operating at the Board level is desirable, and first-time Trustees are welcome to apply.
The role of the Trustees is to safeguard the Trust’s assets and to apply them to our charitable purpose. The Board must always act in the best interests of the Trust, exercising as much care as if they were dealing with their own affairs or looking after the affairs of someone for whom they are responsible. The Trustees should take advice where required to ensure they are fulfilling this duty of care.
In that context, the Board is seeking to appoint a Trustee who has:
- a commitment to the mission and values of the Trust
- strategic vision
- good, independent judgement
- a willingness to speak their mind and respect diverse views

DCF are a family-founded charity focusing on supporting children and young people's wellbeing. We provide youth groups, workshops and 121 support in schools and in the community.
This is an exciting, key opportunity to develop our income generation, therefore supporting us to reach more young people.
We are looking for a Trustee to lead on financial oversight of the charity, set up financial controls and processes and oversee our treasurer.
Our board currently has six Trustees however, the two who oversee financial controls and treasurer responsibilities are stepping down in May. We currently have a lack of financial oversight which impacts on grant applications and planning. We have a need for trustees with specific skillsets so that each board member can take ownership of their areas related to the charity. Currently our CEO has a very active role within Board meetings and would benefit from support from proactive members.
We would like to grow the Board to around nine members and create processes and procedures that diversify our income and sustainability. We currently deliver services in two boroughs (Croydon and Merton) and have a 5 year plan to expand to four boroughs.
What are we looking for?
This individual should have:
Knowledge and experience of charity finance practices
Professional accounting, finance or similar qualification
Strong understanding of financial management and reporting
Experience in establishing and setting out strategic goals and direction in organisations
Ability to explain financial procedures to other Board members
Experience of providing Governance to organisations
Ability to think creatively and strategically, and to exercise good, independent judgement.
Ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
The role will involve:
Supporting the Treasurer
Providing overview of income, expenditure, reserves, balance sheet, and cashflow
Recording transactions
Monitoring spend for various projects
Providing reports to the Treasurer and Board
Forecasting project and operational spend with CEO
Attending 'monthly' meetings (10 per year)
Providing information to HMRC and Pension providers
Monitoring compliance with local accounting laws and regulations
