Volunteering for Sense
Our amazing team of volunteers help us run over 100 shops across England and Wales. Every donated item that you sort, prepare and sell helps to raise vital funds to support us in our mission to make sure no one, no matter how complex their disabilities, is isolated, left out, or unable to fulfil their potential. Our shops are at the heart of local communities – sharing the work of Sense, and helping to secure support for our life changing work.
What your role will involve
There are a variety of tasks that you can get involved with in the shop, including:
- Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service and a fantastic shopping experience
- Receiving donated goods from members of the public
- Sorting, steaming, tagging and preparing donated goods for sale
- Creating eye catching window and in-shop displays
- Keeping the shop floor well stocked, tidy, clean and organised
- Processing sales and serving on the till
- Promoting Gift Aid and other Sense fundraising initiatives
- Acting as an ambassador for Sense; promoting the shop and Sense in your local community
- Supporting with the recruitment and training of new volunteers
- Following new health, safety and social distancing measures to ensure the safety of everyone

Link Age Southwark is a vibrant local charity providing support to over 800 older people in Southwark who are feeling lonely or isolated. Our vision is for friendly local communities where older people and those living with a diagnosis of dementia can thrive in their later years.
All our volunteering opportunities are within the London Borough of Southwark, predominantly south of the borough - Camberwell, Peckham, Nunhead, Dulwich and around.
By becoming a Digital Buddy, you’ll help bridge the digital divide, ensuring everyone can stay connected and navigate the digital world confidently. Are you able to support our service users and help build their digital skills with sessions at home on their mobile phones, tablets, or laptops? Our Digital Buddies provide up to six weekly home visits, each lasting 1-2 hours.
Some examples of what a Digital Buddy can assist with:
- Accessing online services
- Setting up a new digital device
- Mobile messaging
- Sending emails
- Picture messaging
- Problem solving
- Staying safe online
No need to be a tech expert—support with the basics so our older friends can communicate and navigate their devices. Please note that our Digital Buddies are not able to support with online banking, advice on purchases, or fixing hardware.

TRUSTEE VACANCY FOR BERKSHIRE VISION
Berkshire Vision is a local charity with a 114-year heritage of supporting blind and visually impaired children and adults across the County, helping them to live their lives to the full. Did you know that 1 in 5 of us will experience sight loss in our lifetime?
With a growing service-user base, a committed team, and enthusiastic volunteers, this is an exciting time to join the Berkshire Vision Board. We are now seeking new people to join our charity as trustees on an unpaid basis. You don’t need prior experience as a Trustee. At Berkshire Vision, we are a close-knit team that supports each other, and all the necessary training and guidance about taking on a Trustee role will be provided.
We are hoping to attract committed individuals ideally with experience in one or more of the following areas; Sight Loss, Accountancy, income generation, NHS, HR, Safeguarding, Disability and/or Social care but all applications from other areas will be welcome. Whatever your background, if you are interested in helping to make a difference to local people with sight loss, we would love to hear from you.
As a Trustee you will attend 4 board meetings per year, providing strategic direction, guidance and support to the Senior Leadership Team. Depending on your expertise and available commitment there are additional sub-committees that meet about 4 times per year. Trustees have independent control over, and legal responsibility for, a charity’s management and administration. They play a very important role, in a sector that contributes significantly to our community. Trustees are also encouraged to support fundraising and awareness events.

Purpose of the Role
This volunteer role is a key part of the HFEH Mind team delivering a range of services across Hammersmith and Fulham, Ealing and Hounslow. We support clients with mental health with both clinical and non-clinical interventions.
Compass is a service designed to support adults (18 years and over) in H&F and Hounslow. The service provides support with welfare benefits, debt, housing and well-being/peer support groups/workshops.
The Ealing Pathways service is designed to support adults (18 years and over) with stable mental illness to stay well and avoid acute admission in the borough of Ealing. The service provides support with welfare benefits, debt, housing and well-being advice service.
As a part of this, we are looking for volunteers to support with both services. The role of the volunteer includes supporting with onboarding and contacting clients onto our services as well as completing administrative tasks.
Main Responsibilities
To work closely with the Compass/Pathways service team and support the services with enquiries and support the service users to access the service.
- Triage clients for the service through an onboarding process.
- Support with follow up surveys and questionnaires for those who have accessed the project and obtain their feedback to improve our services.
- Support the Compass/Pathways team to promote the service to the local community.
- Support with administrative tasks including recording information onto our database ‘Views’.
- Supporting clients by picking up ‘light touch cases’ e.g. form filling and welfare benefit checks.
Type of person we are looking for:
Essential
- An interest in supporting those with mental health needs to access Compass/Pathways services.
- Good oral and written communication skills (including listening skills); the ability to communicate in a patient, considered, and empathetic manner.
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to follow administrative procedures.
- IT skills – able to update spreadsheets, use web-based applications, video-conferencing software, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Preferably have had experience working with people who experience poor mental health.
Time commitment and expenses
- 5 hours per week, during our opening hours of 10am–4pm. Please indicate your preferred volunteering day(s) on your application
- We request a minimum commitment of 3 months of volunteering after the completion of your induction.
- We will provide volunteers with an induction, training, and ongoing mentoring to support them in the role.
