We will make sure you will have access to a proper induction to volunteering with SJA and the training you need for the role you take on. We will be running a number of information events locally and these are:
28 April 2025 to 18th May 2025.

The Legal Trustee will participate in all areas of the charity’s governance with a special interest in the legal implications of the strategy, governance and support with the Board’s understanding and interpretation.

We are particularly interested in applicants who have experience or knowledge of Health & Safety to join our Health and Safety Committee.

The Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, developing the CLAPA’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines.

You would be joining our board at an exciting time, as we create and implement our new 5 year strategy for 2025-2030.

Interviews will be held week commencing 17th February and will be extremely accommodating to applicants availability. These will be held at either St John Ambulance Wetgate Road, or alternatively at Newcastle University at the unit nights already in place.

We are looking for 3 experienced creative professionals who will enjoy planning, updating and delivering the content for our website, as well as other digital and print materials. We are looking for 3 skilled professional who can write compelling and persuasive content, who will help ensure a consistent tone across all our digital and printed communications to promote awareness and engagement.

We deal with a wide range of people and professions, which means that it can be difficult to consistently communicate with everyone effectively. Therefore, a communication and marketing volunteer will help to market our projects, services and the condition more widely than we are currently able to do. This includes creating and helping to distribute marketing materials, creating content for the Burning Nights CRPS Support website and helping us create and develop a communications and marketing strategy.

Key Tasks and Objectives

• Copywriting: Create well-written and compelling copy for use in leaflets, packs, one-page/fact sheets, fundraising/promotional materials, membership packs and on our website
• Case study writing and storytelling: Help communicate our impact via stories and case studies that we can use on our website, in marketing materials, or for our fundraising materials
• Web copywriting: Create and update engaging content for our website that adheres to our brand

· Email/E-Newsletter content: Write compelling email content for our various e-newsletters that is relevant and has clear call-to-actions. This will be in conjunction with our email marketing volunteers

· Communication materials review: Review our existing communications materials. Recommend edits that will provide us with consistency in writing style and tone, accurate spelling and grammar, and a clear and engaging voice for our organisation. Evaluate the way we communicate with volunteers, members of the public and helping us to develop better ways of doing this

· Social media snippets - create information and case study snippets for the various social media platforms

· Press Releases and any content that could be used in different channel

· Brochure/annual review writing: Create or update copy for a brochure or our annual review, highlighting our impact current and potential stakeholders

You will be supporting Breakthrough T1D’s Research Partnership team with PPIE requests from researchers in the type 1 diabetes field. 

At Breakthrough T1D we believe people with lived experience of type 1 diabetes should be a key aspect of every stage of type 1 diabetes research. Including people who live with type 1 diabetes in research falls under Public and Patient Participation, Involvement, and Engagement (PPIE).

What will I be doing? 

• Drafting lay summary information for PPIE requests, 
• Uploading opportunities to the Opportunities to take part in research webpage, 
• Submitting social media request forms, 
• Sending opportunities to the Insight & Experience Panel, 
• Monitoring the current activities to ensure all areas are up to date, 
• Sending out feedback and final report forms, 
• Updating the PPIE planner efficiently, 
• Other support for the team as needed. 

What skills or experience do I need? 

• Good time management and organisational skills, 
• Clear and timely communication skills, 
• Quick learner, 
• Ability to use Microsoft Office, notably word and excel 

What training and support will I receive? 

When you sign up to become a volunteer, we’ll send you a copy of our Volunteer Handbook and any relevant policies you’ll need to know about.

You’ll receive training in any role-specific systems, and you’ll have the name and contact details of a staff member who’ll support you in this role and answer any questions you have.

We’ll also reimburse all reasonable out-of-pocket expenses in line with Breakthrough T1D volunteering policies.

Volunteer Opportunity: Grant Writer & Fundraising Lead – Help Save Lives

We have a rare and urgent opportunity to make a life-changing impact—but we need your help.

At Somali Medical Aid Group (SMAG), we are a UK-registered charity, also registered in Somalia, dedicated to supporting conflict survivors, women, and children who have suffered unimaginable trauma. Our mission is simple but urgent: to provide lifesaving medical interventions to those who need them most.

Through our partnership with an internatioal NGO, we are sending Somali conflict survivors to abroad for reconstructive surgery—giving them a second chance at life. Our partner has committed to covering all medical cost,flights, and treatment, but without an additional £60,000 to cover local patient support and logistics, this lifeline will disappear.

That’s where you come in.

We need an experienced, strategic, and passionate grant writer & fundraiser to help secure these critical funds. Beyond this immediate need, we also need help with funding our core operations and several other life-changing initiatives.

What Needs Funding

Immediate Priority: Keeping the MSF Partnership Alive

• Secure £60,000 to cover local operations, logistics, and patient support.

Other Critical Projects:

• Core Funding – Ensuring SMAG remains operational and sustainable

Volunteer Befriender

Octavia works with people affected by unemployment, ill health, social isolation or low income to connect them with opportunities for positive personal change. Our vision is to build stronger, happier and healthier communities in central and west London to help create an enriched life where we live. Please help us to do this by volunteering to befriend a member of the local community, who is isolated and vulnerable, in Westminster or Kensington and Chelsea.

Reasons to volunteer

Would you like to assist an isolated person in your local area? Would you like to provide them with the emotional support, social skills and confidence that will help them to feel happier in their everyday life?

 You will know that you have helped someone to move on in their life and take part in society
 Full induction, ongoing training and support. This includes training on: communication, empathy, health and safety, confidentiality and safeguarding

What would I be doing?

 Meeting once a week with the person you have been matched with, in their own home or an agreed public place, at a mutually agreed time
 Encourage communication on a shared interest or topic
 Arrange activities and listen to your Befriendee with empathy and encouragement
 On occasion you may be asked by your befriendee to accompany/escort them outside on a one to one basis or do some shopping in circumstances where they are unable to

What skills are we looking for?

 Good communication skills
 Understanding of empathy and the needs of people with isolation issues
 Understanding of confidentiality
 Able to use own initiative and work unsupervised, reliable and trustworthy
 We ask that you volunteer for 1 hour per week, for a minimum of 6 months

When you aplply, we ask for 2 references but these do not need to be from employers. For instance, they can be character references from college tutors or support workers who know you well. We also carry out Enhanced Disclosure checks on all volunteers, but this would only happen if we both agree that Befriending is the right fit for you.
