We don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. That’s why we provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to us in crisis. We are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.

We are looking for additional trustees to help Uttlesford Food Bank meet demand for our services. Experience of strategy development, press/PR and/or charity governance would be extremely useful.  We welcome applications from current volunteers and partner agencies, but are also keen to hear from candidates not currently working with us who want to help their local community.

We would like to have greater representation from South Uttlesford and would encourage applicants from Dunmow, Stansted and the surrounding areas.  We would particularly like applicants who may have used a foodbank and experienced some of the issues our clients face. We are looking for a balance between those who know us already and those who will bring fresh thinking to the board.

By supporting the governance of the food bank, you are part of a team providing a vital holistic support function in your local community, ensuring a dignified experience to anyone visiting or anyone who comes into contact with Uttlesford Foodbank.

Africa Health Organisation (AHO) is an international health organisation for Africa and the UK. Our mission is to provide health and social care. We seek an accountant to support our move to the new financial system handles financial records and tracks financial health of the organisation.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Support the team in choosing the appropriate accounting software and moving from the current system.
• Act as the organisation's financial adviser and accountant
• Provide letters of support requested by banks, funders, regulators like CQC, etc
• Ensure payroll is accurate and records are maintained
• Support management in the accurate production of budgets
• Ensure cash flow is utilised correctly and protect reserves
• Audit financial information for inconsistencies
• Provide tax planning strategies by existing legislation
• Create financial forecasts and analyse risk

Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum of Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting accredited by the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) or a Foundations in Accountancy accredited by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). A degree in accounting would be an added advantage.
• Be registered or be a member of an accounting professional body, e.g. ACCA, AAT, etc
• At least two years of experience in accounting in the voluntary and community sector
• Knowledge and understanding of charity accounts
• Interest and acumen in how a charity functions
• Application of proven methods to common and uncommon accounting problems
• Ability to review one’s work and find and correct any mistakes
• Understanding of the overall impact of their financial decisions
• Proficiency with accounting software
• Strong analytical skills
• Your business must be based in the UK.

This is an exciting opportunity to be able to influence how we do things whilst helping the RSPCA to; identify animal welfare needs in the area, prevent animal cruelty, and reach out to more supporters.

• Take the lead on matters relating to community outreach:

•  Assist the Branch in setting strategies to tackle the identified animal welfare needs.
•  Work closely with other organisations (other welfare charities, other welfare providers, vets etc) to develop mutually beneficial partnership opportunities.
•  Identify opportunities for the Branch to engage with those living within the branches area in order to develop its supporter base.

• Maintain control of all veterinary and other animal services provided to the branch.
•  Maintain control of animal welfare vouchering schemes.
•  Creation and contribution to the animal welfare promotional materials.
•  Act as second reviewer for adoptors and fosterers.
•  Act as main contact for RSPCA Inspectors, vets, boarding facilities.
•  Creation and contributor to branch communications.
•  Compliance with Data Protection Act 2018.
•  Submission of the RSPCA Reports as required.

• Actively promote and advertise the society in an ongoing programme to recruit new branch trustees and volunteers and welcome new members.

We are looking for someone to volunteer as a Branch Treasurer for our Tunbridge Wells & Maidstone Branch. This role would play a vital role in supporting the Branches affairs so that it is governed and managed effectively, whilst continually having animal welfare at the forefront of their mind.

As a minimum, trustees would normally be expected to attend a monthly committee meeting lasting some 2 to 3 hours. However, the commitment may vary depending on whether or not the trustee takes on additional duties.

Primary responsibilities of the Branch Treasurer

• Take a lead role in ensuring the committee set annual financial budgets and plan the branch income and expenditure.
• Provide a written financial report for every branch meeting.
• Liaise with auditors/independent examiners regarding the production of the annual branch accounts and the treasurer’s report.
• Maintain control of all bank accounts as authorised by the committee.
• Execute and operate branch committee financial decisions and act as branch co-signatory.
• Maintain control over all branch paying-in books and receipt books and to ensure their correct use.
• In the absence of a branch box secretary, to assume responsibility for the branch network of collection boxes.
• Arrange payment of the annual branch contribution to the appropriate RSPCA fund.
• Coordinate financial control of all branch fundraising activities.
• Make quarterly VAT returns to headquarters promptly.
• Ensure the production, monitoring and annual review of the branch’s financial risk management strategy in accordance with the charity commission’s requirements.
• Liaise with branch officers, branch support specialist and Branch finance co-ordinator on Financial affairs as necessary and alert them immediately to any possible difficulties or irregularities.
• Ensure the retention and safekeeping of all branch financial documentation for the appropriate time as set by the charity commission.

What we are looking for in a volunteer:

• We are particularly looking for someone who has knowledge and experience in finance, who may already understand charity finance.
• As a trustee, you would be able to dedicate the time to attend monthly committee meetings, which  last approximately 3 hours.
• In between meetings, there will be additional volunteer duties such as; providing financial reports at  committee meetings, monitoring the budget which has been set by the trustees for the year,  processing payments, querying invoices, doing VAT returns, and processing Gift Aid claims.

Our trustee roles are subject to an informal interview and introduction period when you will have the opportunity to meet your fellow committee members and attend committee meetings as an observer . We will ask you to provide contact details for two referees, and will be subject to independent eligibility checks. Listening Books – 2 Roles: Trustee and Treasurer.

Listening Books is recruiting for two Trustees roles: one general Trustee and one for the role of Treasurer. Both roles are voluntary.

What will you be doing?

Primary responsibilities of a Trustee

· Appreciate and support the aims and policies of Listening Books.

· Ensure the charity meets all Company law and charity commission requirements.

· Actively participate in committee meetings and the Annual General meeting.

Treasurer role

What are we looking for?

The Trustees collectively set the charity’s strategic direction. In addition to the role of a trustee, the treasurer role will include the following specific tasks, mostly on an exception basis:

· The Treasurer will work with the CEO to present budgets and accounts to the board at their meetings. These will have been prepared by the CEO and Accountant.

· Monitoring and reporting on the charity’s investments and interfacing with our investment house, CCLA. Accordingly, some experience of investments would be an advantage.

· Reviewing with the accountant to ensure the appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place and that we have appropriate financial policies, including a policy on reserves.

· Ensure that budgets (prepared by CEO) are aligned with both short-term and long-term objectives each year.

· Might need to occasionally liaise with the Auditor.

· Protect the charity’s Reserves and ensure that the financial resources of Listening Books are sufficient to meet its present and future needs.

· Co-ordinate efforts on financial risk management.

Accordingly, we are seeing someone with:

• · Proven ability to communicate effectively and explain financial information to members of the board and other stakeholders.
• · Analytical and evaluation skills, demonstrating good judgement.

Both the general Trustee and Treasurer roles are for three years with the possibility of re-election beyond that. Both roles are voluntary. There are 3-4 board meeting per year with each taking approximately 2 hours. Meetings are held at our offices in The Foundry, Social Justice and Human Rights Centre Limited, 17 Oval Way, London SE11 5RR. Trustees may also attend virtually as required. As the treasurer role has additional responsibilities, we estimate the additional time commitment to be approximately 2 hours per month. There may be occasions where a little more, or less, time is required.
