Business Development Volunteer Roles

Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. The Prince’s Trust couldn’t function as well without the support of thousands of volunteers across the UK, who are able to offer a vital network to young people facing significant barriers to jobs, education or training.

As a Business Volunteer, you will work alongside other volunteer mentors and Trust colleagues providing short-term mentoring and guidance to young people or supporting Programme group sessions where expert knowledge, skills or experience (such as language, legal, financial, or sector expertise) is needed. We are currently looking for Business Mentors in Wales.

Our Business Mentors are involved in guiding a young person through regular 1-to-1 mentoring and active support, as they grow the necessary skills and confidence needed to achieve their goals. This may range from providing help, guidance, and support as they identify whether self-employment is right for them, through to remaining alongside them in the early years as their business establishes and grows. You may be helping them to test the viability of their business ideas, launch their enterprise, helping to identify markets and opportunities for growth and will be championing and encouraging them as they navigate the often-difficult early stages of their business journey.

Volunteering can take place at a delivery centre or maybe online, though most likely you will be meeting your mentee in a convenient public location that suits you both.

By volunteering as a Business Mentor you will be directly impacting young people who will benefit from your knowledge, expertise and experience.

Mentoring with The Prince’s Trust is centred around empowering a young person to take ownership of their own journey. For this role we are looking for someone with a good knowledge of the fundamentals of developing and growing a new business. It would be great if you have experience in things like business planning, selling, marketing & finance and are good at building trust with young people from a range of backgrounds. More than this we want you bring to life your experience in a way that empowers our young people to do it for themselves, so being a great communicator, creative, flexible and non-judgemental is essential.

It is important that our business mentors are encouraging, able to give and receive constructive corrective feedback and reinforce learning and progress.

You will be working with young people who have completed our Exploring Enterprise Course which is designed to help 18 to 30-year-olds turn their ideas into a business reality.

If you have a passion and enthusiasm to support young people, many of whom are experiencing significant personal barriers, and could commit a few hours each month, we would love to hear from you!

Discipleship Ambassador (Voluntary part-time)

ETS is a small but growing UK based Christian charity, which is looking to expand its discipleship and evangelism training throughout the UK and the English-speaking nations.

We are looking for a person of faith who can identify with our aims; a mature Christian who is comfortable in networking with Church leaders.  Although this is a voluntary position, we anticipate that this role may be salaried at some point in the future.

As an ETS Ambassador, you will be our first contact to many pastors and leaders in both the UK and to other English-speaking nations. Therefore, your main role is to open doors and to reflect our passion and ability to make disciples of all nations, through our unique one-day training and manuals.  Once the door of opportunity has been opened, we can take over and explain in more detail. 

As our ETS Ambassador, your role will involve reaching out to churches to promote our discipleship and evangelism training. This will be by targeted emails, letters, and phone calls, which will be backed up and supported by our Admin and Fundraising Officers.

ETS is based in Peterborough, and we expect any applicant to work from home/remote (hybrid) along with attending meetings over zoom. We will only interview applicants who are UK based. There may be occasional team meetings at Allia Business Centre, Peterborough, but traveling costs will be reimbursed, along with phone calls and other approved expenses.

Salary: This is a voluntary role and you are expected to pay your own taxes (if applicable)

Hours of work: This is a part-time role and we will negotiate the hours per month, but these can be carried out at different times during the week.

We would require a commitment of three months, with the possibility of extension.

Safeguarding: Appointment will be subject to a satisfactory DBS check.

Being a Trustee

IRMO’s Board of Trustees is made up of six to nine Trustees, who work together to ensure the charity is run properly. As a trustee, you will have the opportunity to support IRMO’s strategic development and oversee its finances. Trustees meet every two months (usually online in the evening) and are asked to commit an additional eight to ten hours between meetings to follow up on actions and provide advice and input on strategic documents and areas of work relevant to their areas of expertise.

General Responsibilities

• Stay up to date with and assess the political, economic and social contexts that affect IRMO’s work
• Support the development of and approve IRMO’s key strategic documents
• Annually review and approve IRMO’s budget
• Review, update and approve major policies
• Approve salaries, benefits, terms and conditions for staff
• Ensure that IRMO’s financial structure is adequate for its current needs and long-term strategy
• Ensure that the organisation has the necessary resources in place to meet its long-term goals
• Ensure that the Board of Trustees is adequately informed of the condition of the organisation and its operations
• Ensure that published reports adequately reflect the nature of the services and the financial condition of the organisation
• Approve major actions of the organisation, such as capital expenditure over authorised limits and major changes in activities and services 
• Review staff results in relation to IRMO’s aims and objectives, as well as annual and long-term goals
• Appoint, supervise, support, and appraise IRMO’s Director
• Provide candid and constructive criticism, advice, comments and praise
• Ensure that the Director has established appropriate policies to define and identify conflicts of interest throughout the organisation and are administering and enforcing those policies
• Appoint independent examiners/auditors subject to approval by members
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation affecting the organisation
• Annually review the performance of the Board of Trustees and take steps to improve its performance

The Ecology Centre is looking for a Chair to lead our community and environmental charity in collaboration with the Board of Trustees.

We are looking for an individual who shares our values and who brings suitable commercial acumen and leadership skills to drive strategic growth and effective governance. As Chair of the Board of Trustees, you will play a critical role in designing and overseeing the strategic direction of our charity in collaboration with the Board of Trustees and General Manager. You will act as Chair to a close-knit, committed Board of Trustees, ensuring robust financial oversight, governance and innovation. We are looking for an individual who can help to bring our mission and vision to life and who can oversee the effective commercial management of the charity. Proven leadership experience within the charity sector is preferred but we are open to hearing from any individuals who can bring a proven track-record and understanding of leadership and financial management and who fits our values. • Providing strategic leadership to the charity in collaboration with the Board of Trustees
• Guiding the short and long-term strategic development of the charity
• Assuring and strengthening effective governance, including effective controls and monitoring of financial health, risk management and legal compliance

Rekindle was started in Newtown, Powys in 1997 by a group of people who had all experienced mental health problems within their own families. The aim was to give relief to those suffering from mental illness with therapy and targeted activities. Rekindle is all about recovery, the recovery of mental health, the recovery of opportunity and the recovery of a fulfilled life.

What will you be doing?

In addition to general trustee responsibilities, we're particularly interested with in candidates who have an interest in local business connections or experience in fundraising or mental health service delivery. Depending on skill, some specific responsibilities may include: 

• Fundraising oversight

Time commitment 

• Estimated at 8 - 10 hours a month. 
• The board meet 4 times a year, generally in person. Remote attendance can be supported, but trustees are encouraged to attend at least 2 meetings a year face to face. 
• Trustees are also expected to contribute ad hoc and occasional time outside of board meetings, the majority of which is done remotely.

You do not need previous governance experience to join the board. We will provide an induction an ongoing support. We are also eager to diversify our board and welcome younger trustees and those with lived experience.

Sculpt is a UK-based charity with over 20 years’ experience of working with young people aged 14-25 empowering them to shape their futures. Women and Girls Network (WGN) is a pan-London organisation that supports women and girls affected by all forms of gendered-based violence. Our overall aim is to promote, preserve and restore the mental health and well-being of women and girls who have experienced, or are at risk of, gendered-based violence, whilst working towards a society free of gendered-based violence.

We do this by:

• Providing women-only holistic and seamless therapeutic services, which meet women and girls’ needs and contribute to total and sustainable recovery from the experiences of violence.

The Merchant’s House Gift Shop, located on Marlborough High Street within a beautifully preserved 17th century historic house and museum, is looking for a new shop director to help lead our small, dedicated team in this well-loved gift shop  – famed for its beautiful Christmas Room.

The Shop was established 30 years ago and is run by a subsidiary trading company (The Merchant’s House Trading Ltd) - wholly owned by The Merchant’s House Trust. The shop is a key revenue generator for the Trust’s activities, donating its profits back to the trust. It has a small number of paid staff (including the Shop Manager) as well as volunteer workers.

What we are looking for

We are seeking a volunteer Shop Director to join the small board of company directors for The Merchant’s House Trading Ltd. We are looking for an individual with relevant retail experience who can help us ensure the shop is well managed, commercially successful and supports the visitor experience in this beautiful, unique and culturally significant building. This is an unpaid position.

The Merchant’s House is embarking on an exciting new phase as we embed our new strategic plan, having opened for full visitor access for the first time in 2024. As we embark on a new phase, we need to breath fresh life into our shop and ensure it is both commercially viable and supports the overall visitor experience to the historic house.

The role

· To provide leadership and operational governance of the shop, setting objectives and targets and ensuring successful commercial performance.

· To line manage the Shop Manager and Assistant Manager.

· To work closely with the Trust to ensure that the shop is aligned to overall strategy, supporting the goals of the trust and enhancing the visitor experience to the House.

The Merchant’s House is embarking on an exciting new phase as we embed our new strategic plan, having opened for full visitor access for the first time in 2024. As the Merchant’s House looks to expand its work and programmes with improved visitor experiences, education, and events, we are seeking to enhance our board.

We are seeking two additional trustees who can bring experience in the following specific areas:

1) A trustee with practical experience and knowledge of the Museum or Heritage sector, to help guide our work to process our collections, improve interpretation and visitor experience, seek grant funding, and achieve Museum Accreditation. This Trustee will also sit on our Heritage Committee.

2) A trustee with retail or visitor services experience, to help guide direction for our gift shop, located in the ground floor of the House and a vital part of our revenue generation. As we embark on a new phase of visitor access, we need to breathe fresh life into our shop and ensure it is both commercially viable and supports the overall visitor experience to the historic house. This Trustee will also be a director of our Limited Trading Company.

Role on Trustee board:

· To oversee the strategic development and growth of the charity in line with its aims and objectives.

· To be part of the Museum’s active management, working with other trustees and paid staff, running the museum as a business.

As a MindWell Promotional Champion, you’ll be part of the MindWell team and play a vital part in helping to raise awareness of the information, guidance and support MindWell offers. 

• You’ll help us to identify and contact key locations around the city to display MindWell materials such as posters, leaflets and bookmarks. 
• You’ll help to distribute promotional materials and help others to order materials. 
• You'll engage with people, and help us to build relationships with community organisations and key contacts. 
• Encouraging people to sign up to the MindWell newsletter and gathering feedback whilst you’re out and about would also be a great help.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Help us to identify and contact key locations around the city to display MindWell materials.
• Help to distribute and display MindWell promotional materials at key locations.
• Help people with ordering more MindWell materials if required.
• Build relationships with community organisations and key contacts.
• Encourage people to sign up to the MindWell newsletter.
• Gather feedback whilst you’re out and about.
• Represent MindWell and act as our ambassador.

About the role

As a MindWell Research Champion, you’ll be part of the MindWell team and play a vital part in helping to raise awareness of the information, guidance and support MindWell offers. 

• You’ll help us to identify health and wellbeing events across the city and key locations for distributing and displaying MindWell materials. 
• You’ll make contact with event organisers and locations to find out whether MindWell can support them in any way. 
• You'll create a calendar of events, build contacts and relationships with organisations and individuals across the city. and work closely with MindWell Events and Promotional Volunteers.

Who we’re looking for

We welcome volunteers living in Leeds from all walks of life especially those with personal experience of mental health challenges, and those from LGBT+, disabled, and Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities. You don’t need any specific skills - what matters most is your willingness to help and your enthusiasm to learn. We’re looking for people who are:

• Collaborative and good at communicating 
• Open to learning and growing with us

Even if you don’t feel you match all these qualities perfectly, that’s okay! We’ll provide all the training and support you need to feel confident in your role.
