As we expand our reach and work towards financial sustainability under our 3-Year Strategic Plan (2024–2027), we are seeking a Trustee with expertise in accounting and financial oversight to join our Board.

Role Purpose

The Trustee (Treasurer) will play a key role in ensuring EFF’s financial stability, sustainability, and compliance. Working with the Board and Senior Leadership Team, you will provide expert advice on financial management and income generation while contributing to the governance of a growing organisation. Whilst the team is small there will be more active involvement with the CEO, in the absence of a Finance Director in the leadership team.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Governance and Oversight

• Ensure the financial health of EFF by overseeing budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting.
• Support the development of EFF’s financial strategies to achieve long-term sustainability and scale.
• Provide financial guidance on EFF’s traded income and partnerships strategy, ensuring alignment with the organisation’s mission.
• Have an understanding of charity accounting / SORP requirements

2. Reporting and Compliance

• Ensure compliance with the Charity Commission’s regulations and other statutory requirements.
• Oversee the preparation of annual accounts and external audits.
• Lead the review and approval of financial policies and procedures to maintain robust financial systems.

3. Income Generation and Sustainability

• Support the charity’s income diversification strategy, including traded income, grants, and partnerships.
• Provide oversight of financial risks and opportunities related to EFF’s growing program portfolio, ensuring financial viability of new initiatives.
• Help identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining program impact.

4. Board Contribution

• Contribute to strategic discussions, bringing financial expertise to board decision-making.
• Provide challenge, support, and guidance on financial matters to the CEO and wider team.
• Actively participate in governance activities, including attending Board meetings and supporting the review of EFF’s strategic priorities.
• Advising the board on how to carry out its financial responsibilities.

The Legal Trustee will participate in all areas of our governance but take a special interest in the legal implications of the strategy and governance. The Legal Trustee will not be an expert in all legal matters, nor will they act as the Trust’s legal representative, but will use their sound legal training and experience to support with the Board’s understanding and interpretation. Knowledge of UK wide midwifery provision would also be an advantage but not essential.

The Legal Trustee will be a UK-based practising or non-practising solicitor, legal executive, barrister or have other equivalent legal experience. It is essential that you have experience of giving legal and governance advice on sensitive multi party complex issues.  Legal Experience in the areas of maternity, health and safety, and/or employment law would be an advantage 

Outside of meetings, all Trustees are expected to spend 2-4 hours a fortnight on Iolanthe Trustee work to further the organisation’s work and mission. The legal Trustee is expected to check and to respond to emails at least once a week.

Background to the role:

Keep Active is a volunteer-delivered project at The Creighton Centre, which aims to provide support to older people (60+) who have had a fall, stroke or other illness.  We work in partnership with the NHS Community Rehabilitation Service across Hammersmith & Fulham. As a Keep Active Volunteer you would visit an older person (the average age is 84) once a week for up to nine weeks to help them with improving mobility indoors with exercises, or outdoors with walks in their community. This project aims to empower people to get back to independence, access community once more and reduce risks of future falls and hospital re-admittance.

Availability/commitment:

· To live in or near Hammersmith and Fulham, or travel regularly through

· To be able to spare 1-2 hours a week, preferably during working hours

Role of the Keep Active Volunteer:

· To attend an initial one-off training session [with Volunteer Coordinator and therapists from NHS rehabilitation teams].

· To visit an older person’s home once a week for up to 9 weeks to supervise and motivate them to continue practicing their exercise and walking goals, as prescribed by NHS rehabilitation teams.

· Support might include:

- A walk around their local community possibly going to the park or visiting shops.

- Encouraging them to complete a prescribed gentle exercise program.

- Keeping an older and sometimes isolated person company.

- Visiting someone in their homes to help them reach their exercise goals.

NB: Please note that this is a volunteer role and you will not be expected to provide any physical support. This is a motivational role only.

We will provide:

· Induction training and NHS Community Rehabilitation led training (weekday training).

· Regular contact and support from the project staff.

· Occasional social events for volunteers

· Occasional training opportunities for volunteers

· A reference after 3-6 months of volunteering with us

· An enhanced DBS check

Prison Bike Workshop Volunteer

Do you have a passion for bikes? Could you use your bike maintenance skills to help prisoners turn their lives around?

We’re looking for people with competent bike maintenance skills to volunteer on our Bikes Beyond Bars programme.

About this role

As a volunteer, you’ll work alongside prison-based bike maintenance course participants, helping them refurbish a wide range of donated bikes. Working at our workshops at HMP Bristol or HMP Fosse Way, you’ll help residents to develop cycle maintenance skills and earn a professional Cytech qualification. These new skills will equip them for better job opportunities upon release.

You’ll support our dedicated Prison Bike Mechanic Tutors, providing hands-on assistance in the workshop and making a meaningful impact on the participants’ journey toward rehabilitation. This is a great opportunity for those who enjoy working with people from all walks of life and want to use their bike know-how to help make a real difference in their community.

About Life Cycle

Life Cycle is a charity that works with people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds at every stage of their cycling journey, from learning to ride, to building a career in the cycle industry.

In this role, you’ll be working on our Bikes Beyond Bars programme, Life Cycle’s innovative bike recycling project based at HMP Bristol and HMP Fosse Way. Unwanted bicycles are taken to the prisons, where the men learn how to strip down, clean and refit them, giving them a new lease of life.

The bikes are taken to our community Hub in Bristol where they are quality assured ready for sale by Life Cycle’s mechanics and our team of volunteers. Anyone can buy a bike; however, many go to local people on low incomes, enabling them to get a bike and start cycling.  

About you

We’re looking for someone with competent bike maintenance skills, who’s confident working on bike refurbishments with light support from our friendly Prison Workshop Tutors. If you’re unsure, please feel free to give us a call.

Due to the nature of the role, you must have an open, non-judgmental attitude and believe in the possibility of change for those who’ve been involved in the criminal justice system.

Role Support: You will be supported by the Men in Sheds Coordinator & Shed Volunteers

What is the purpose of this role?

To support our Men in Sheds volunteers by contributing to the safe running of the shed during sessions by their continual presence and willingness to chat to and support members who attend.

The Men in Sheds Project: Is historically a project specifically for men aged 50+, but with the benefits that have been seen from the project, a mixed session with men and women is being introduced to help women learn/build on practical woodworking skills too.

Men in Sheds provides a well-equipped workshop space where members can work together on a range of activities, and we currently have ‘sheds’ in Blidworth and Worksop.

The project aims to:

- Encourage men and women to be more socially active.

- Provide members with an outlet for their skills and the opportunity to learn new ones.

- Provide respite amongst friends for older men and women who are carers.

- Provide the opportunity to make a valuable contribution to the local community.

- Provide access to information and other local services.

- Encourage members to take ownership of their ’shed’ and the projects undertaken.

 What impact does this role have?

The Companion Men in Sheds Volunteer role will support the Men in Sheds Volunteers to deliver the project aims, introducing new skills to men and women, whilst helping combat social isolation.

What activities might you be involved in?

Ø  Assisting volunteers on duty delivering the Men in Sheds Sessions.

Ø  Assisting volunteers unlocking the shed and getting it ready for use, turning on heating, checking for unsafe items around and on machines etc.

Ø  Assisting members if needed with projects, lifting etc.

Ø  Encouraging projects that could be completed by members - orders, seasonal items etc.

Ø  Meeting and greeting visitors, ensuring they comply with all safety requirements & sign in.

Ø  Attending monthly volunteer meetings.

Ø  Checking that everything is switched off and assisting a fellow volunteer in locking up at the end of the session.

Ø  Reporting any concerns to the main volunteer on duty and/or the Shed Co-ordinator.

Ø  Volunteering within the charity Safeguarding Policy and raising any safeguarding concerns with the other volunteer only duty, who will then raise it with the Shed Co-ordinator.

What are we looking for?

Ø  Friendly personality and approachable manner with the ability to work confidentially and sensitively with men and women from a variety of backgrounds.

Ø  Ability to use own initiative to work alone, or as part of a team.

Ø  Keen to learn or build on their understanding of the workshop environment and/ or working with power tools

Ø  Appreciate the need to follow health and safety guidelines:

o Ensure members follow the shed’s General Safety Rules

o Ensure that all members work in a safe manner.

o Ensure machines are not used inappropriately – training will be given.

o Ensure that you demonstrate good practice by wearing the correct PPE and ensure that members also wear it.

o Ensure there is no smoking in the shed, only in the outside designated smoking area.

o Actively contribute to keeping the shed clean and tidy

When would you be needed to volunteer?

Volunteers are required who can regularly commit to at least one session per week or to provide cover on an ‘as needed’ basis. The Blidworth Shed is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays 9am - 1pm (Thursday afternoon sessions from January 2025). Days to be agreed with the Shed.

What training will you be given?

You will be given all the training you need to enable you to carry out your role which will include a thorough departmental induction at the Men in Sheds.

You will be required to attend a full day’s certified First Aid Training course paid for by the charity. Your certificate once trained will last for 3 years after which time you will be required to attend refresher training

Our partner is an international non-profit that contributes to the protection of human rights defenders throughout the world, providing them with tools to manage their own security in the face of risks, threats and attacks.

They are seeking a Treasurer, with previous Board level experience in an international or regional organisation, to oversee all aspects of their finances and to keep their International Board up to speed on the financial health of the organisation so that they can make better decisions.

The Treasurer will be part of a multi-national and diverse group of experts who collectively work towards the improvement of the protection of human rights defenders throughout the world. The postholder will guide and advise the International Board in the approval and review of annual budgets, accounts, financial statements, and advise them on the financial implications of their decisions. The Treasurer will also provide strategic advice to support the Management Team and the Head of Finance and Administration.

The International Board meets 4-6 times per year, in online/ hybrid meetings lasting four hours (two hours over two days), typically on Thursday, Friday and/or Saturday afternoons. There will also be regular meetings with the Head of Finance and Administration as required.

Prison-based volunteers are the backbone of Fine Cell Work (FCW). Supported by the Fine Cell Work programmes team and by other staff at the FCW office, they teach and administer FCW stitching groups in prisons.

Prison volunteers work in teams to organise classes and teach our stitchers, as well as providing information about the group to the prison and to the FCW office. The precise mix of skills will vary from prison to prison.

Volunteering in prison for Fine Cell Work requires ideally a good level of needlework skill (or a willingness to learn), some teaching experience and/or experience of working with socially-excluded groups. Volunteers must be patient and non-judgemental in order to work effectively. As a prison volunteer you will be:

• Developing skills and confidence
• Teaching prisoners to stitch FCW products within the framework of our training programme
• Encouraging and supporting prisoners to volunteer as class coordinators and peer mentors
• Encouraging and helping prisoners who wish to undertake their own creative projects

It is essential for volunteers to support FCW's ethos, believe in rehabilitation, be an excellent teamworker, observe personal boundaries, be reliable and patient to ensure cell groups run smoothly, and have record-keeping skills and have some knowledge of needlework.

Volunteers work in prisons around the UK dependent on where groups are based, therefore it is requred that volunteers will be able to travel to the relevant prisons. Travel expenses will be reimbursed by the charity.

The Role

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented volunteer to:

• Research and identify suitable funding opportunities.

Volunteering for Sense

Our amazing team of volunteers help us run over 100 shops across England and Wales.  Every donated item that you sort, prepare and sell helps to raise vital funds to support us in our mission to make sure no one, no matter how complex their disabilities, is isolated, left out, or unable to fulfil their potential. Our shops are at the heart of local communities – sharing the work of Sense, and helping to secure support for our life changing work.

What your role will involve

There are a variety of tasks that you can get involved with in the shop, including:

• Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service and a fantastic shopping experience
• Receiving donated goods from members of the public
• Sorting, steaming, tagging and preparing donated goods for sale
• Creating eye catching window and in-shop displays
• Keeping the shop floor well stocked, tidy, clean and organised
• Processing sales and serving on the till
• Promoting Gift Aid and other Sense fundraising initiatives
• Acting as an ambassador for Sense; promoting the shop and Sense in your local community
• Supporting with the recruitment and training of new volunteers
• Following new health and safety measures to ensure the safety of everyone
