What is a Helper?
SSAFA Helpers provide support to local SSAFA branches, so that the service to veterans and their families can run smoothly. Perhaps you could help out at an event, take care of some office admin, or give a talk about SSAFA?
Why do we need you?
We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community since 1885. Our clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like the Falklands or Afghanistan.
There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas who support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families. Some branches are divided into smaller divisions to ensure the best local service delivery. Each branch has a team of volunteer caseworkers, support volunteers, executive roles, and fundraisers.
We have peak times throughout the year when we need extra volunteers. Whether you enjoy organising behind the scenes or being out meeting the public, we need people who can offer some time on a flexible basis.
When would you be needed and where would you be based?
This role will suit you if you are looking to volunteer on a flexible basis as and when you are available, and we need extra help. You may be based in an office, at home, or out and about at events.
What would you be doing?
- Helping at public events by staffing stalls, stewarding etc
- Helping to distribute Christmas hampers to clients.
- Giving talks about SSAFA to schools and local groups
- Helping with office tasks like stuffing envelopes, ordering marketing materials
The remit of this role may change over the next 12-18 months depending on the outcome of a trial currently being undertaken.

Why am I needed?
We’re looking for event volunteers to assist us for our brand new event, Cancer is Everyone’s Business Dinner. This event will be held on Friday 11th October.
1 in 7 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime, but it can affect anyone - no matter your age or gender. This dinner provides an opportunity for individuals and businesses from across Wales to come together to support people affected by cancer.
Our fabulous hosts Rhodri Gomer and Lowri Morgan will help us turn the iconic Glamorgan Cricket Club pink for the evening, where entertainment, fun and fundraising will be supplied by the bucket full.
What will I be doing?

At Rainbows, we support around 750 babies, children and young people with serious and terminal conditions throughout the East Midlands, providing support at our Hospice, in local hospitals and at home. As part of this, our Family Support Team work with families to navigate through the emotions of caring for a child who has a life-limiting condition.
As these families can be based all across the region, Keep in Touch Volunteers play a vital role in connecting families with the Hospice. Volunteers do this by making an outreach telephone call to a family; checking-in with them and signposting them to any wider support which may be needed, as well as any support or services which Rainbows may be able to provide.
Typical tasks the role could involve:
- Making outreach telephone calls to Rainbows families.
- Checking on a family’s welfare and alerting them to available support if needed.
- Relaying any concerns to the Family Support Team.
- Regularly submitting an activity log summarising their calls so we can make sure everyone is receiving the help they need.

Our amazing team of volunteers help us run over 100 shops across England and Wales. Every donated item that you sort, prepare and sell helps to raise vital funds to support us in our mission to make sure no one, no matter how complex their disabilities, is isolated, left out, or unable to fulfil their potential. What your role will involve
There are a variety of tasks that you can get involved with in the shop, including:

- Sorting, steaming, tagging and preparing donated goods for sale
- Creating eye catching window and in-shop displays

Why am I needed?
Tenovus Cancer Care’s Lovelight special Christmas Concerts are designed to support people affected by cancer, and to give families and friends an opportunity to come together to remember loved ones lost.
We need friendly volunteers to help our event team to ensure that our Lovelight concerts run smoothly. Come along and join us for an evening of music and candlelight. All funds raised from our concerts will go towards our vital support services which exist to give help, hope and a voice to all those affected by cancer.
What will I be doing?
Help with general event set-up
Welcoming and checking tickets on arrival
Selling raffle tickets
Lighting audience candles for moments of reflection during the concert
Bucket collecting
Tidying and packing away at the end of the event
Directing attendees and helping them take their seats
What skills do I need?
Good organisational skills
Friendly and welcoming
A good eye for detail
Event experience would be helpful but not essential
How much time do I need to commit?
The date of the concert is 12th December 2024, at St Catherine's Church, Pontypridd. On the day of the concert, we would require volunteers to arrive around 5.30pm and stay until approximately 9.30/10pm.
What support will I be given?
You will be provided with an event brief prior to the concert and you will be supported by the events team on the day and joined by fellow volunteers.
