We Are Listening is a new charity, created to provide an alternative befriending service for
elderly, isolated and vulnerable people who may feel socially excluded. Our mission is to
help relieve their isolation and to assist their integration back into society by providing a
telephone and/or correspondence based befriending service.
Key responsibilities include:
Management, development and service delivery of key programmes including Good Call
(our new telephone befriending service) and Postbox (a pen pal programme).
Volunteer recruitment, engagement and retention – campaign and relationship
management, recruitment administration and onboarding.
Relationship management – building and maintaining strong relationships with key
stakeholders including funders, local businesses, further education providers, potential
referrers within the NHS, social services, care homes and housing associations, delivery
partners and supporters.
Coordination, support and monitoring of volunteer befrienders and their matched referred
clients.
Development and delivery of concise management information and performance reports.
Skills and Experience:
A demonstrable commitment to our vision, and an understanding of issues such as
the ageing process, the possibilities for care and support to elderly people who feel
socially isolated and vulnerable.
Good communication skills to enable frequent video conferencing and telephone
contacts.
Ability to work remotely from home with occasional travel to locations throughout the
West Midlands and possibly UK.
Some experience with Microsoft Office software, including spreadsheets and
databases would be advantageous although training would be available

As Store Manager, you'll be leading the volunteer team, as well as focusing on further recruitment to grow our volunteer team and building strong connections within the local community to ensure the shop's continued success.
About You
You will be someone with exceptional people skills, a leader who understands the importance of community and enjoys supporting people to exercise similar passions through volunteering.
You'll bring:
- Proven experience leading and motivating teams, ideally having managed volunteers, or a retail team previously.
- A strong understanding of what good looks like in a busy and successful community-led shop, ideally with some experience within Retail or a clear passion for sustainable fashion and knowledge of products and trends.
- A can-do attitude and ability to approach challenges in a positive way, knowing when to reach out for support and guidance where you need it.
Previous charity retail experience is ideal, but not essential. If you have transferable leadership skills or experience managing volunteers in other settings and are looking for a new challenge, we'd love to hear from you!
Ways of Working: This role will be based on-site in the Cockermouth shop. We're looking for someone able to work 5 days (35 hours) per week to include some weekend working.

In this role, you will develop, manage, and deliver fundraising activities within your region. About this exciting opportunity
Our successful candidate will complete an Initial Needs Assessment, using a strength-based approach within agreed contractual timeframes, before dynamically assessing need and risk, alerting to changes that could indicate change in risk or serious harm, including personal safety and safeguarding. You earn while you learn, and once you gain your qualification you’ll step right into a job. And through our Frontline Fellowship, you’ll join a network of peers intent on transforming social work practice in England.

What to expect as a trainee social worker
Year 1:
- Start with five weeks of intense online study, including five in-person sessions, led by experts in social work theory.
- Begin your 12-month placement in a local council social work team, where you'll work closely with fellow trainees and an experienced social worker. You'll gradually take on more responsibility in supporting children and families.
- Qualify as a social worker by the end of your first year.
Year 2:
- Manage your own caseload, building on your skills and confidence.
- Engage in ongoing study to further develop your professional abilities.
- Receive continued support from Frontline tutors, your employer and fellow trainees.
Year 3:
- Conduct a research project and complete the academic credits needed for your fully-funded social work master's degree.
- Receive leadership coaching to enhance your professional capabilities.

We are looking for your potential to become an outstanding children’s social worker and leader, empowering families to achieve positive change. No specific experience is required to apply. We value diverse perspectives and experiences and a commitment to advocating for the communities’ social workers serve. We're dedicated to fostering diversity in our programme and supporting applicants from underrepresented backgrounds.
You will also meet the following criteria:
- Have at least a 2.2 (predicted or obtained) in an undergraduate honours degree (or international equivalent)
- Have obtained GCSE English Language at Grade C/4 or above (or approved equivalent qualification)
- Possess the right to work and study in the UK (including access to public funds) for the duration of the programme (until September 2028)
- Be resident in England by the time the programme commences
- Not be a qualified social worker

- Manage Communication Channels: Oversee effective communication channels with members and manage social media profiles to support CILIP campaigns.
