The Role
Reporting into the Funding and Innovation Manager you will support the delivery of our fundraising strategy and secure external funding into SNG communities and to charities we work with.
Key Responsibilities
- To support the Fundraising and Innovation Manager to deliver our fundraising strategy.
- To secure external funding to benefit SNG communities and customer facing teams around the following themes: Financial & Digital Inclusion, Employment and Training, Community Action and Engagement.
- Lead projects, bids and programmes that bring in external funding to SNG communities and to charities benefiting SNG communities.
- Innovate by supporting the testing and piloting of new programmes and partnerships and identify opportunities to the Head of Partnerships and Funding.
- Build and maintain excellent relationships with stakeholders, including funders, businesses, local authorities and national agencies.
- Support the implementation of governance oversight for fundraising and systems and processes.
What we are looking for
You should have demonstrable experience in a similar role or have knowledge within fundraising and partnerships. We're also looking for:
- Experience in previous roles of securing external funding via bid writing, public sector tenders and contracts, Trusts and Foundations and corporates.

About the role

As Head of Fundraising, you will lead a team of two fundraisers to develop relationships and generate income from charitable trusts, statutory sources, individuals, schools and parishes.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Finance team at Dementia UK, playing a key role in the administration, maintenance, reporting, and compliance of funds and fund accounting.
As an Accountant, you will be responsible for carrying out monthly balance sheet reconciliations, leading on all trading subsidiary matters, and ensuring charity tax compliance, including VAT and Corporation Tax, across the organisation. You will also support the year-end process, including the preparation of the Annual Report and Accounts as well as assisting with the external audit.
In addition, you will contribute to the ongoing enhancement of financial governance by improving internal controls, configuring financial systems, and ensuring compliance with legal, VAT, and tax regulations. To succeed in this role, you will be either part-qualified in a UK professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA) or part qualified by experience, with 2-3 years of proven financial accounting experience. Working in the Engagement department and reporting to the Adults and Communities Participation Manager, the Communities Participation Producer will create a year-round public programme of activities inspired by the collections, themes and sites of Royal Museums Greenwich. Key responsibilities include producing and delivering programmes in collaboration with community partners and stakeholders to create relevant, inclusive and inspiring activity across the Museum’s multiple sites. The role will focus on creating activity that welcomes underrepresented audiences to Royal Museums Greenwich sites, developing trusted relationships in the process and responding to the social purpose of the organisation.
The role will develop programmes that connect communities and collections around the legacies of empire, queer histories and stories of migration. This will involve working across generations to facilitate dialogue around under-represented histories and current issues in a variety of formats including large scale public festivals, talks, workshops and more. The role will have a focus on developing participation opportunities for African and Caribbean and East and South-East Asian diaspora, as well as LGBTQ+ communities, to develop stronger connections with the collection and bring new perspectives to maritime history. This will involve audience research and internal dialogue to create supportive spaces and activity at Royal Museums Greenwich and contribute towards it becoming a more inclusive and representative organisation.
The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience of delivering a range of inclusive cultural engagement provision for diverse audiences, including large-scale public events, and creating audience-led programmes for African and Caribbean/ East Asian/ South-East Asian diaspora communities. The postholder will have a track record of building strong partnerships with communities and stakeholders, along with experience of writing and producing resources and promotional materials for a range of target audiences. Duchenne UK is an ambitious, dynamic and impactful charity. Following their sons’ diagnosis of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), Emily Reuben and Alex Johnson founded Duchenne UK in 2012.
DMD is a devastating progressive condition diagnosed in early childhood which causes all the muscles in the body to gradually weaken. There are currently only very limited treatment options for DMD, so Emily and Alex set up Duchenne UK to change this.
Since 2012, we have raised more than £27 million to end the devastating impact of DMD. We fund ground-breaking scientific research to find effective treatments. We’ve developed the infrastructure of DMD clinical trial delivery in the UK. We engage industry and regulators to accelerate access to treatments. And we’re here to support every family affected and ensure that they receive the best possible care. We aim not only to improve quality of life but stop the disease in its tracks. We’re doing it faster too, because this generation of patients can’t wait.
Alex and Emily were awarded OBEs in The King’s Birthday Honours List in 2023 in recognition of their services to charity and to people living with DMD. They, and the dedicated and effective team they have built at Duchenne UK, are now at the forefront of this work in the UK.

Income Generation
- Aligned to the organisational strategy, designing and delivering Duchenne UK’s income generation strategy, establishing a delivery plan to hit targets across a diverse range of income streams, including community fundraising, events, trusts and foundations, major donors, research and development grants and commercial income.
- Oversee the process and systems of managing funders and new business opportunities, including overseeing the charity’s CRM system (Salesforce) to support a high end and holistic approach to the account management of funders and stakeholders.
- Set, monitor and deliver annual income and expenditure targets.
- Attend meetings with funders and prospects, and networking events to uncover new opportunities, including management of Duchenne UK’s Development Board.
- Developing and growing the income pipeline, working closely with the Research and Development team to identify funding for existing and pipeline projects.
- Support the team to develop professional and engaging materials including fundraising proposition, applications, proposals, appeals, pitches and reports.
- Proactively seek-out and identify new trends and developments and make recommendations to Duchenne UK.

About the role:

As part of our vision to expand and grow our impact, we are seeking highly skilled and experienced bid writers, either individuals or agencies, to help us secure funding from a diverse portfolio of donors. Objectives of the Assignment
The primary objective of this assignment is to engage bid writers who will:
- Identify funding opportunities from diverse sources, including istitutional donors, foundations, trusts, government programs, and international agencies.
- Develop and write high-quality, persuasive funding proposals that align with BIF’s mission and strategic objectives.
- Support the submission of competitive bids in a timely and organised manner.
- Assist in expanding our network of funders and establishing relationships with new donors.
Scope of Work
The bid writers will be responsible for:
- Conducting research to identify relevant funding opportunities aligned BIF’s strategic goals and programs.
- Writing compelling and comprehensive grant proposals, ensuring alignment with the funder's requirements and expectations.
- Collaborating with internal teams to gather all necessary information for each proposal, including program details, budgets, and impact metrics.
- Assisting in the development of proposal budgets in accordance with donor requirements and BIF’s financial guidelines.

- Providing follow-up communications with donors as needed to clarify details or provide additional information.
