We are accountable for gathering, analysing, contributing, and mobilizing evidence and insights to strengthen the case for dementia across the UK. We aim to bring this information to our colleagues at Alzheimer’s Society and the wider dementia system, both locally and nationally.
Our approach is evidence-based data-driven, factual, and solution-focused. Our strategic evidence base will ensure that the Society’s decisions and interpretations regarding dementia are guided by the highest quality evidence. This will help us:
- Demonstrate the scale of dementia in the UK.
- Showcase the impact of dementia on the healthcare system and those affected by the disease.
- Support Alzheimer’s Society and the wider system in responding to the significant challenges posed by dementia.
As our Strategic Evidence Officer, you will be responsible for gathering, analysing, and mobilising evidence, data, and insights to help build and curate, a robust strategic evidence base grounded in the most recent and best available dementia research. You will also be part of the larger Evidence, Policy, and Influencing function, which is focused on ending the devastation caused by dementia through policy change. Integration and teamwork are essential in this role, both with internal colleagues and external partners.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering and monitoring evidence projects that contribute to our strategic evidence base, as well as reviewing and gathering various types of evidence to enhance our understanding of the scale and impact of dementia in the UK.
- Utilising our evidence base to generate actionable insights and articulate implications that can guide policy, practice, or future research initiatives for Alzheimer’s Society and key stakeholders in the dementia system.
- You will play a crucial role in making strategic evidence a collective focus, fostering innovation, and creating reciprocal mechanisms for mobilising our strategic evidence base internally and externally to influence national and local systems effectively.

Job Purpose: Fundraising Officer
The Fundraising Officer position is responsible for proactively driving fundraising growth from new and existing supporters (predominantly with individuals and corporate partners) generating the income that will enable our ambitious organisational strategy. The position also plays a significant role in strengthening support through community engagement activities, including with schools, community associations and corporate groups.

Key responsibilities
● To identify and submit applications to potential grant funders who indicate that they offer support for foodbank and community activity.
● Proactively identify, engage and build good relationships with prospective corporate donors, successfully securing them as funding partners. Alongside this you’ll deepen engagement and grow our relationships and partnerships with existing corporate donors.
● Work with colleagues across Barnsley Foodbank, to develop authentic, compelling, creative and winning grant funding and partnership proposals that can successfully engage corporate partners and align with their needs, motivations, areas of interests and values.
● Design and deliver excellent, engaging and regular stewardship communications and powerful fundraising appeals alongside establishing the associated data and systems. You will grow our income and pool of individual supporters making one off or monthly donations. You’ll also explore and implement ways of promoting Barnsley Foodbank to successfully attract an ever-greater number of individual donors.
● You’ll proactively build new fundraising relationships with local community groups, associations and schools in and around Barnsley.
● Evolve, develop, monitor and manage a fundraising portfolio capable of generating in excess of £150,000 per annum. You’ll establish a fundraising pipeline, including a range of KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators) that can be tracked and that will enable you to make informed projections regarding future income.
● Forge strong relationships with colleagues across the wider Trussell Trust network, sharing best practice and learning from other charities across the network. As part of a network ‘learning set’, you’ll proactively take advantage of any fundraising training and skills development opportunities and engage with any joint fundraising opportunities.
● You will engage with the Communications and Development Officer to ensure that social media is used to engage with funding partners and also used to promote the financial needs of the project. You will ensure donors receive regular stewardship communications that bring the Barnsley’s work and impact to life so that donors keep engaged with our work.

Person specification
Essential qualifications, skills, and experience:
● Experience as a fundraiser and a proven track record of fundraising success with individuals, businesses and/or community fundraising.
● Excellent written and verbal communication and relationship management skills, including the ability to inspire and motivate existing and prospective supporters, provide excellent stewardship and craft compelling and winning funding proposals and appeals.
● Experience of setting, managing and reporting against fundraising priorities
● Strong IT skills
● A tenacious and enthusiastic approach and the ability to embrace, develop and shape a new role. You’ll be well organised, proactive, and a self-starter who is able to self-motivate to plan, prioritise and manage your workload.
Desirable qualifications, skills, and experience
● Knowledge of the Fundraising Regulator’s Code of Fundraising Practice
● Experience of costing projects for grant applications
● Experience of monitoring and evaluating outcomes of grant and bid applications
The person appointed will be based at the Wombwell hub. They will need to be able to travel independently, however it will not be necessary for them to be a car owner or driver. If they are a car driver, they must have no more than 6 penalty points on their licence.

About the role
You will be offering support via a national helpline to families of serving Royal Navy personnel, including Reservists and Merchant Navy, that are seeking support for their mental wellbeing.
You will speak from your own lived experience as serving personnel, or a close family member of a serving personnel, to actively promote the wellbeing of people who reach out and signposting support available to them when appropriate.
To achieve this, you will contribute to an extensive database of nationwide support available and work closely with the Anchoring Minds team to make sure that people receive to support they need. This may include writing referrals.
You will make follow up calls with people to make sure they could access support and help them overcome any barriers to access if it is needed.
You will have connections with a wide range of organisations including:
- Organisations who support families of serving Naval personnel
- Local Authorities and housing providers
- Wellbeing Centres
- Military specific benefit services
- Local schools and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)
- Community Mental Health Teams (CMHT)
- Other third sector organisations
Hours: Part-time, 21 hours per week.

We are looking for a candidate that is passionate about mental wellbeing and able to promote support available to the people who can benefit most from it. You will need to have a strong understanding of challenges faced by military families and a working knowledge of the welfare benefits system, with a focus military family accommodation and military financial benefits.
The ideal candidate will be capable of forming good working relationships with colleagues and external agencies. In addition to this you will need to be confident using databases and a smart phone to carry out your day-to-day work.

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Youth Participation Officer is a new role and will play a pivotal part in
advancing the integration of youth voice into our organisation. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a well-established grassroots charity, to capture and amplify the voice of the young people in our community and truly make a difference.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Youth Participation Officer

Contract type: Fixed Term Contract for three years with the opportunity to extend the project if funding allows.

JOB PURPOSE
To lead on all participation events, including implementing a youth panel and co-producing content with young people on information distribution, advertising and fundraisers.
You’ll work on a wide range of projects including creating engaging content in coproduction with our young people that aligns with OTR’s brand and values across our website, social media, and email campaigns. This includes developing multimedia content (including graphics, videos and blogs) to promote our work and highlight our impact in the local community.

· Working with the Senior Leadership Team to develop a participation strategy, including establishing and supporting a youth panel.
· Provide safe sessions, where young people can meet and participate in youth-led positive activities.
