The Role

The TSA is seeking a highly experienced, confident and capable Head of Fundraising to provide leadership and direction on all aspects of income generation. The charity has gone from strength to strength over the last 24 months, including income generation, and we are looking for an experienced fundraising professional to continue this amazing work.  

Working closely with the TSA’s Joint Chief Executives, you’ll join the Senior Management Team and will be expected to successfully implement our new three-year fundraising strategy, which aims to diversify and raise income in a sensible yet ambitious way.

Head of Fundraising responsibilities 

Strategic, leadership and management 

• Provide leadership for fundraising and income generation across the TSA team. Attend regular strategy meetings and be a leading voice in shaping the TSA’s income generation activities 

• Lead in the development, implementation and review of fundraising polices and strategy ensuring they are in line with the overall organisation business plan 

• Provide line management for the Fundraising Manager and Grants and Trusts Manager, including regular meetings and ensuring that the fundraising team are fulfilling all areas of their roles, meeting agreed KPI’s and achieving set income targets 

• Lead on the annual business planning and budget cycle for the income generation 

• Effectively collect and analyse data to demonstrate income trends, the impact of fundraising and income generation. Use this data to inform quarterly reports to the Board of Trustees, determine the impact of the team’s work and drive continual improvements in policy and practice 

• Attend and actively contribute to weekly TSA team meetings 

Income Generation and partnership 

• Lead on all income generation activities, with a focus on developing new fundraising initiatives for corporate giving, major donor fundraising, legacy giving and TSA appeals 

• Develop and deliver short and long-term fundraising and partnership strategy for the TSA. Ensure that the TSA has a balanced portfolio, and the fundraising team successfully delivers income across multiple streams

• Working closely with the Joint Chief Executives and Grants and Trusts Manager, expand the TSA’s range of research funding sources to include public, academic, commercial and innovation funding alongside investment from the TSA itself 

• Accurately forecast and monitor against income generation targets 

• Identify opportunities to work with partners on areas of common interest where the TSA can achieve more through joint funding, gifts in kind (such as time or services) or delivering joint projects than the charity could do by working alone 

• Ensure the TSA’s fundraising policies, procedures are up to date and that all fundraising activities comply with law and the Fundraising Regulator guidelines 

• Continue to maintain established, and develop new relationships with potential fundraising supporters and partners across all sectors 

Marketing and communications responsibilities 

• Work closely with the communications team to develop inspiring fundraising campaigns, appeals, cases for support and content for distribution across all digital platforms,including social media, e-newsletters and Scan magazine, website and fundraising platforms 

• Continue to strengthen our supporter engagement plans to identify and build excellent working relationships that leads to increase income 

General responsibilities 

• Adhere to all TSA policies, procedures, values and behaviours 

• Comply with all internal and external Health and Safety requirements and complete Risk Assessments as appropriate 

• Work as part of a small fundraising team, you will enjoy taking on new challenges and happy to work flexibly as the TSA continues to develop and grow

Secret World Wildlife Rescue (SWWR) exists to relieve the suffering of British wildlife, to encourage respect and tolerance for wildlife and to further its conservation. SWWR strives to do this by:

Our Fundraising Manager is responsible for planning and preparing all fundraising and grants working alongside all departments to ensure projects are fulfilled from inception to fruition. The post holder takes care of medium- to long-term activities,  budgeting, planning and strategy, as well as being responsive to emerging opportunities and adapting to change. Grants Manager

We are seeking a proactive and detailed Grants Manager to support our development team on the journey to further Cardboard Citizens’ ambitions as a dynamic, flexible and forward-thinking social justice charity and theatre company, working with people who have experience of homelessness and poverty or inequity.

Our organisation secures over £1m in voluntary funding each year and our Grants Manager will play a vital role in securing and growing the broad range of voluntary support which allows to make exceptional art for social change. You will manage a rich portfolio of existing funder relationships across Trusts & Foundations, Corporate and Statutory income streams, in addition to researching and writing applications for new funding and working closely with the Delivery team on impact monitoring and reporting. You will cultivate and steward funder relationships and manage and represent the organisation at events run by, with and for existing and prospective funders, including establishing new funding connections for Cardboard Citizens in Hackney, following our recent move from Whitechapel to Hoxton.

Following this move and the launch of our film series More Than One Story in partnership with The Big Issue, this summer, you will be joining Cardboard Citizens at a time of growth, change and increased local and national exposure, as we plan for our longer-term future. We have targets in place to retain and increase income we receive from grants, which make up the majority of our annual income. • Liaising with wholesale customers, raising sales invoices and reviewing ageing debtors following up on payments.
• Routine communication regarding financial information with regulators and banks.

Board of Trustees & CEO support:

• Arranging Board and committee meetings - securing dates, venue bookings, preparing and collating papers and presentations, taking minutes and facilitating actions.
• Coordinate Trust policy reviews and ensure these are completed in a timely manner
• Organising team meetings, team awaydays and collating and sharing information and notes arising from those sessions

Recruitment & HR:

• Preparing documentation & placing adverts.

Retail:

Location: This position is based in our Cambridge office, where we operate a hybrid working model - a flexible blend of homeworking with essential office-based work at the office at High Cross, Madingley Road, Cambridge, CB3 0ET.

Salary: £28,000 pro rata

Working Hours

• 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
• Flexible working hours available; to be agreed upon appointment.
• You will also be required from time to time to work occasional evenings and weekends for which you will be granted time off in lieu.

Holidays: 25 days pro rata per year of paid leave plus the usual public holidays.

Expenses: All reasonable travel costs incurred as part of the role will be reimbursed as per UKAHT policy.

Probation period: The appointment will be subject to an 6 month probationary period

Notice period: Upon completion of the probationary period, the period of notice will be eight weeks by either party.

Human Practice Foundation (HPF) is searching for a UK Country Manager to join the team and further establish the organisation in this market. The charity’s mission is to work sustainably and holistically to build schools and bring 1,000,000 children into a safe and empowering educational environment, with a focus in Nepal and Kenya. 

The UK Country Manager will prioritise continuing the growth of the charity’s funds and will work with an existing network of trusts & foundations and philanthropic individuals, as well as continuing to spread HPF’s message. 

If you are a proactive, creative person with an entrepreneurial mindset, a track record of building incredible relationships and networks, and an ability to work both strategically and operationally, we would love to talk to you about the role. Experience of fundraising, securing and managing major grants, philanthropy, corporate partnerships, or business development would be particularly beneficial.

Role purpose and dimensions:

• Design and implement a UK Fundraising Strategy, particularly aimed at foundations, institutions, corporates and High-Net-Worth Individuals (HNWI) in the UK, capable of delivering significant income growth over the next 3-5 years.
• Independently manage a portfolio of prospects and funders, as well as high level volunteers, with the capacity and propensity to give significant funds in support of HPF’s work. This will involve managing and meeting all application deadlines.
• Identify, research, qualify and manage a pipeline of funding prospects.
• Develop a range of funding proposals, pitches and appeals, to successfully solicit funds.
• Design and implement a donor cultivation and stewardship programme, including a combination of events, proposals, reporting, communications and visits.
• Network on behalf of the foundation, representing HPF at the highest levels and at a wide range of events, working with existing and developing new contacts to secure vital introductions.
• Oversee the governance of the UK operation, including all statutory reporting requirements.
• Regular narrative, financial and KPI reporting to the UK Board and to Copenhagen, including provision of board papers ahead of/ presentations at Board meetings.
• Contribute towards key global initiatives and projects, and lead on Foundations fundraising across HPF.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

• Senior fundraising professional with proven leadership skills and at least three-years’ experience in a not-for-profit organisation
• Strong track record of securing significant donations and grants from foundations and/or institutions (six-figures +). References will be required.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of delivering successful funding applications, proposals and pitches
• Self-starter, able to operate independently, whilst also able to engage meaningfully in virtual team working with other senior colleagues.
• A proactive networker, able to act as a spokesperson and ambassador for HPF at the highest levels.
• Experienced relationship manager, able to build and maintain relationships with funders, as well as experience working with senior staff, board members and volunteers to cultivate donors.
• Demonstrable experience of setting and achieving ambitious fundraising strategies and plans.
• Able to work at both a strategic and operational level.
• Experience of working closely with and reporting to Boards of Trustees.

Desirable

• Strong affinity with HPF mission, values and approach. 
• Track record of securing significant funds from corporates and HNWIs 
• Understanding of charity/fundraising legislation and codes of practice.

Human Practice Foundation (HPF) is an International NGO, founded in Denmark in 2014 by former corporate lawyer and HPF CEO, Pernille Kruse Madsen. After witnessing the devastating fates of girls being trafficked from Nepal to India for sexual exploitation, Pernille decided to commit her life to providing education and opportunities for those who need it the most. 

Today, HPF has registered charities in Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK as well as independent NGOs in Nepal and Kenya. The organisation employs 90 people and follows a holistic community approach, using schools as a platform for change. HPF builds schools, improves infrastructure, implements quality education programmes, and stimulates local economies through business building and agricultural impact programmes. To date, Human Practice Foundations has raised over USD 20 million globally (£2 million in the UK since 2019). HPF utilised this funding for more than 100 school projects supporting over 40,000 children, their teaching staff, families, and surrounding communities. The context for this role: 

This new position, created to lead HPF’s mission in the UK, and lead Trust and Foundation fundraising efforts globally, is a fantastic opportunity for a self-starter to build on HPF’s success and grow its income from UK and international foundations, institutions and corporations, as well as UK-based high net worth individuals. 

HPF seeks a highly motivated, experienced and successful fundraising professional with the vision and skills to develop and deliver a new three-year fundraising strategy, taking UK income from £270k per annum to £500k+. The successful candidate will be comfortable operating at both a strategic and operational level, with no hesitation to roll up their sleeves and be ‘hands on’. 

Whilst the initial line management responsibilities are limited to high level volunteers, it is expected that the successful candidate will expand and shape the programme and team for the future.

The newly scoped CEO role in our vision-focussed charity is one of many challenges. Despite having doubled its outputs in the last 2 years, the charity acknowledges there is still a great job of work to do to prepare itself for even greater demand in its services - without necessarily a proportionate increase in its budgets. This role is about leading and enabling the incredible team of people on to even greater levels of already-strong performance. So we're looking for an accomplished leader and not just a great manager. We're looking for someone who can lead from both the front - and from within. This will be someone who is as comfortable sitting and engaging with our beneficiaries - primarily homeless people and those with previous convictions, as they are creating and delivering highly polished, compelling public event and funder and stakeholder-focussed presentations. We are looking for someone who understands the balance of external and internal focus required to ensure both good governance and team wellbeing (as they work in often challenging circumstances) and the ambition to keep developing existing and new external partnerships. With a strong start to its ambitious Corporate Partnership programme, commercial and/or business experience is highly desirable as well as a proven track record in creating and optimising new funding channels.

The Upper Room (TUR) works with a wide range of financially and socially disadvantaged groups including homeless people, people with long-term mental health conditions, asylum-seekers, refugees and ex-offenders – helping them to improve their lives and become productive members of society. Central to our offering is our UR4Meals service, providing free, home-cooked food to people who cannot afford to provide for themselves. We are also very proud of our UR4Driving programme, which supports people recently out of prison with free driving lessons in exchange for community volunteering. Gaining a driving licence greatly enhances their future employability prospects and helps break the cycle of re-offending. Additionally, our UR4Jobs project focusses on both client wellbeing and breaking down the many barriers to employment faced by disadvantaged people every day.

The role

Is leading the charity through its next phases of development as it prepares itself for year on year increases in demand with a focus on delivering the charity’s future resilience plan (Project 12/25). The CEO is accountable for overall charity performance (financial, operational, governance, compliance), team (paid and volunteer) support and development. Additionally, there are a wide range of community and external partner relationships to manage and develop. Ultimately this role sets the tone for the charity, one of both compassion and ambition to improve the lives of the people who need us. This is primarily an on-site role, with occasional opportunity to work flexibly.

You have a stable CV that demonstrates you have built and led successful teams and enabled growth and/or transformation for your organisation – ideally in an equivalent charity/non-profit environment. You can evidence strong team leadership and results across a wide range of business functions which will need to include income generation, managing budgets and business operations. You live within - or know well, West/Central London, are passionate about improving the lives of disadvantaged and vulnerable people and can lead multi-functional teams through a blend of 121 coaching, training and ensuring a ‘we can do this’ culture across the charity. You are an accomplished and visionary public speaker and presenter, able to articulate both the journey we’re undertaking and the support/input we need to get there.
