The Lipman-Miliband Trust continues to play a vital role as one of the very few charities able to respond to the needs of those engaged in socialist education. We encourage new work within this broad field, taking into consideration new areas of cultural and political work in institutions of learning but also in community organisations and among NGOs.

Having benefited from a significant increase in resources in recent years, we are seeking several active and committed Trustees to join with us and our part-time Co-ordinator to expand our outreach, fundraising and grant-giving activities.

To become involved in LMT, you will share our values and participate actively in our affairs. This will require you to attend each of our four Trustee meetings a year. Although we are based in different locations around the country and most of our work is conducted online, we aim to meet in-person at least twice a year. The experience of Trustees suggests that overall, involvement in Trustee business accounts for between 6 and 10 hours of our time each month.

You will also be asked to join at least one of our Working Groups, undertake tasks and projects needed for the good management and operation of the Trust, review and approve documents and proposals as required, and take part in decisions about grant giving awards. Grant giving is one of the most rewarding things we do. We love seeing the difference our investment and support can make to socialist education.

We are particularly seeking applications for the position of Trustee Treasurer who will work with the Trust Co-ordinator, external advisors and accountants, to ensure our finances are properly administered. Our finances are vitally important to us in ensuring that we continue our charitable activities and socialist educational work. Experience or understanding of financial management and accounting would be helpful. We will be happy to support appropriate training.

The Avon Centre is a riding, therapeutic and outdoor-learning centre based in a wonderful woodland setting by Blaise Castle. We are already recognised for our high standards in our work with Disabled people, including physically, sensory and learning Disabled people, and we are branching out into supporting people facing other forms of disadvantages.

Trustee overall responsibilities

• Ensure Sussex Emmaus complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations..

• Ensure Sussex Emmaus pursues its objects as defined in its governing document. Maintain proper financial control and ensure that it applies its resources exclusively in pursuing its objects.

• To work with the CEO to develop strategy, setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets.

Trustee specific responsibilities

• Governance:

We’re seeking an innovative and passionate individual to join our Board of Trustees.

Who are Maggs?

Maggs’ overarching vision and purpose is to work with partners to eliminate long-term rough sleeping in the county, whilst offering homeless and vulnerable people opportunities to thrive and realise their full potential.

The charity began in 1985 through our Worcester Day Centre in Deansway. We have since acquired a second day centre in Malvern and a countywide outreach team that boasts two additional teams: Harm Reduction and an Intensive Transition Team.

We also have our Clothing Project and Accommodation Project, providing 15 housing opportunities for former rough sleepers.

Our goal is not just to support rough sleepers in their situation, but to help them to make the changes necessary for them to change their lifestyle, by dealing with the issues that hold them back, like lack of confidence, substance abuse, or poor health, so that they can access permanent housing and return to a conventional lifestyle off the streets.

The Role:

Our trustees play a vital role in ensuring that Maggs achieves its core purpose. They oversee the overall management and administration of the charity, and Maggs has a clear strategy that aligns with our goals and vision.

Just as importantly, they support and challenge the executive team to enable Maggs to grow and thrive, and through this, work with the homeless and vulnerable to raise self-confidence thereby enabling positive life change.

Board members have a collective responsibility, meaning that trustees always act as a group and not as individuals.

Duties:

· Support and provide advice on Maggs’ purpose, vision, goals and activities.

· Approve operational strategies and policies, and monitor and evaluate their implementation.

· Oversee Maggs’ financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress.

· Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.

· Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively.

· Review and approve Maggs’ financial statements.

· Provide support and challenge to Maggs’ CEO in the exercise of their delegated authority and affairs.

· Keep abreast of changes in Maggs’ operating environment.

· Contribute to regular reviews of Maggs’ governance by, but not limited to attending Board meetings and being adequately prepared to contribute to discussions.

· Use independent judgment, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect Maggs’ interests, to the exclusion of their own personal and/or any third-party interests.

· Contribute to the broader promotion of Maggs’ objects, aims and reputation by applying your skills, expertise, knowledge and contacts.

Please note that as a small charity, there will be times when the trustees will need to be actively involved beyond Board meetings. This may involve scrutinising board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, presenting externally, or other issues in which the trustee has special expertise.

Cancer52 is an exceptional organisation, providing one voice for over 110 cancer charities and organisations working in the area of rare and less common cancers*.  These cancers account for 55% of people who die from cancer every year in the UK and we aim to ensure our collective voice is heard at the highest levels of government and in national policy making.  We champion earlier diagnosis, better treatment, better representation, more funding and better support for people affected by rare and less common cancers.

The Cancer52 Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, developing the organisation’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the charity’s governing documents and legal and regulatory obligations and guidance. We meet regularly to support and provide oversight to the Cancer52 CEO and staff and to discuss progress, successes, challenges, and future strategic development. A number of trustees have reached the end of their period of appointment, and we are looking for three people to join our Board.

To ensure the Board has the right skills and experience to be able to support the charity most effectively, we are particularly interested to hear from applicants with experience in charity fundraising, law, HR, marketing and public relations.  Personal experience with or passion for improving care for rare and less common cancers is also desired, but not required.

As a Board, we know we need to become more diverse to better reflect and support the communities we support and bring different perspectives and thinking. We would particularly welcome applications from people from Black, Asian and ethnic minority communities and from areas outside of London.

Trustee Board meetings are held four times a year. Meetings are currently held on Wednesday afternoons, usually via Teams, but could be adjusted to accommodate the needs of the board members. PFP is a UK-based charity working in Africa and Asia since 2004, and this year we are celebrating our 20th anniversary. Our Mission is to work together with local people and filmmakers to produce, distribute and show local language educational films that give help and hope to vulnerable and disadvantaged communities. Our latest activities have primarily focused on Malawi, Sierra Leone and Kenya. 

Every PFP film seeks to bring about positive change by engaging audiences with themes, characters and subjects that address important challenges facing themselves and their communities.

The Florence Nightingale Foundation (FNF) is a thriving charity both in the UK and globally. Its unique purpose is giving back to nurses and midwives in recognition of the enormous contribution they make to society.The Treasurer role is vital to FNF, ensuring that the financial affairs of the organisation are both legal and constitutional.

Role Description

Position: Treasurer (Honorary Officer and Trustee)
Reports to: Chair of the Board of Directors
Location: London
Remuneration: The role of Treasurer is not accompanied by any financial remuneration, although expenses for travel may be claimed
Time Commitment: Four Board meetings and four Finance & Investment Committee meetings per year. Attendance at the annual Florence Nightingale Commemoration Service. Attendance at annual Presentation of Scholar Certificates.

The Treasurer is also expected to have regular meetings with the Chief Operating Officer (COO), and to remain in regular contact with the charity’s auditors and other stakeholders as required.

Objective

The Treasurer is responsible for overseeing the financial affairs of the Charity and ensuring they are legal, constitutional and within accepted accounting practice. You will ensure proper records are kept and that effective financial procedures are in place. You will report to the Board and the annual general meeting on the financial position of the organisation. You will oversee the production of necessary financial reports/returns, accounts and audits. In partnership with the FNF Team, the Treasurer (with COO) are responsible for the preparation of the annual financial review and accounts for approval by the Board and AGM.

Tenure

The Treasurer will serve a one year tenure in the first instance, subject to an extension for an additional 2 terms (of 3 years).

Purpose 

The Trustee role is voluntary with meetings taking place a minimum of once a quarter. Trustees are responsible for: 

• controlling Navigates management and administration 

• ensuring that Navigates income and property are used only for the purposes set out in the 

• governing document and for no other purpose 

• acting reasonably and prudently in all matters relating to the charity 

• acting in the best interests of the charity. 

Main Duties 

1) Comply with Navigates governing document and law. The successful Trustee and your co-trustees must: 

• Make sure that the charity complies with its governing document 

• Comply with charity law requirements and other laws that apply to Navigate 

• As a Trustee, you should take responsible steps to find out about legal requirements for example, by reading relevant guidance or taking appropriate advice when you need to. 

2) Act in Navigates best interests, you must: 

• Do what you and your co-trustees (and no one else) decide will enable the Charity to carry out its purposes 

• With co-trustees make balanced and adequately informed decisions, thinking about the short term and charities future 

• Avoid putting yourself in a position where your duty to Navigate conflicts with your personal interests or loyalty to any other person or body 

• Not receive any benefit from Navigate unless it is properly authorised and is clearly in the charity’s interests; this also includes anyone who is financially connected to you. 

3) Manage Navigates resources responsibly–the successful trustee(s) must act responsibly, reasonably and honestly (duty prudence). The trustees must: 

• make sure Navigates assets are only used to support or carry out its purposes

• avoid exposing the assets, beneficiaries or reputation to undue risk 

• Not over-commit the charity 

• take special care when investing or borrowing 

• comply with any restrictions on spending funds 

4)  Act with reasonable care and skill 

• must use reasonable care and skill, making use of your skills and experience and taking appropriate advice when necessary 

• should give enough time, thought and energy to your role, for example by preparing for, attending and actively participating in all trustees’ meetings (once a quarter). 

5)  Ensure that Navigate is accountable by complying with statutory accounting and reporting requirements. You should also: 

• be able to demonstrate that your charity is complying with the law, well run and effective

• ensure appropriate accountability to members, if your charity has a membership separate from the trustees 

• ensure accountability within the charity, particularly where you delegate responsibility for particular tasks or decisions to staff or volunteers 

Essential – 

The successful candidate(s) will meet the Charities Commission eligibility criteria, specifically:

• You must be at least 16 years old to be a trustee of a charitable company or a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO), 

• You must not act as a trustee if you are disqualified under the Charities Act, unless your disqualification has been waived by the Commission. 

• Fit and proper persons - Finance Act 2010 requires all of the charity’s managers (including trustees) to be ‘fit and proper persons’. 

• Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks – an enhanced DBS check: this will include a check against the relevant barred list. 

• A client focused approach to service delivery 

• Excellent communication skills

Citizens Advice Barnet seeks new Trustees to join the board to help our established local charity continue to provide its vital services to the diverse communities of Barnet.

Ever since we were founded in 1939, Citizens Advice Barnet has been providing free, confidential and impartial advice to people who live, work and study in Barnet, as well as campaigning on big issues affecting people’s lives by using the data we collect to influence policies and practices that affect the lives of people in Barnet. Our Vision is a borough where no resident suffers disadvantage as a result of an inability to access the advice they need.

With the ongoing cost of living crisis and political change our work has never been more necessary or more in demand. To respond properly, we feel the need to continue having a robust Board of Trustees and, in so doing, our capacity to lead. In particular, we are seeking a more active programme of engagement between the trustees and staff and volunteers and the Barnet community. We are seeking to recruit up to two new Trustees.

Our Trustees shape the strategic direction of Citizens Advice Barnet. The Board sets objectives and targets for the Chief Officer and monitors their progress. The Board also provides advice and guidance for the Chief Officer and Senior Leadership Team. The Board is collectively responsible for ensuring the financial health of the organisation and that the proper financial controls are in place.
