Is a registered charity, working both locally in Sussex and nationwide with the purpose of providing advice, counsel, support, and assistance to everyone finding it difficult to manage their financial affairs because of poverty, old age, disability or economic abuse.  

MAP is a specialist debt and money advice charity. Our vision is for everyone to have the advice and support they need to manage their own money effectively. We do this by providing person-centred money advice, actively engaging with those who find it most difficult, improving wellbeing and financial resilience.

What will you be doing

We are looking for new Trustees to strengthen the Board. We are looking for trustees with experience in legal and HR. 

People with skills and experience that will help us (including lived experience) are wanted to ensure we maintain our reputation for being a well-run charity. We will welcome people from underrepresented sections of the community including younger people.

What are we looking for

This role is for someone who is organised and methodical, with an eye for detail. Trustees take part in relevant subgroups will also participate fully in Board meetings and play an essential part in the strategic direction and quality development of the organisation. An understanding of the charitable and voluntary sector and its governance will be an advantage, as well as an empathy for the aims and objectives of Money Advice Plus.

In 2022-23, we received 5690 enquiries into our service and assisted 3714 people with debt and welfare benefit problems.  These numbers are for just one year, but the impact on each client is immense and has life-changing outcomes.

The result of this work  

• Increase benefit income by £1,562,348 (£1,963,310) 
• Secure one-off payments of benefits of at least £280,204 (£400,829)
• Secured £116,782 in Discretionary Housing Payments
• Obtain charitable grants and refunds and compensation of £503,357 (£423,019) 
• Insolvency amounting to £596,373. 
• Debt write-off (not insolvency) £1,011,427. This includes £868,843 for victim-survivors £178,784 using our innovative Economic Abuse Evidence Form that is currently piloted by several major banks, debt purchasing and utility companies.
• Negotiated with creditors to reduce client payments of £46,345 (£47,873) per year.

Altogether with charitable payments and other financial outcomes, our clients were better off by a total of £4,375,104 (£4,474,556) per year, an average of £1634 (£938) per client. or £3.17 (£3.50) for every £1 spent on our service.

Money Handling service  

• 424 (438) people received a money-handling service, primarily in Brighton and East Sussex. 
• £5,329,122 (£4,892,00) of clients’ money was handled.  This comprises clients’ income received and used to fulfil their weekly and monthly budget requirements, pay bills and debts, and provide weekly cash.

We are already recognised for our high standards in our work with Disabled people, including physically, sensory and learning Disabled people, and we are branching out into supporting people facing other forms of disadvantages.

The Lipman-Miliband Trust continues to play a vital role as one of the very few charities able to respond to the needs of those engaged in socialist education. We encourage new work within this broad field, taking into consideration new areas of cultural and political work in institutions of learning but also in community organisations and among NGOs.

Having benefited from a significant increase in resources in recent years, we are seeking several active and committed Trustees to join with us and our part-time Co-ordinator to expand our outreach, fundraising and grant-giving activities.

To become involved in LMT, you will share our values and participate actively in our affairs. This will require you to attend each of our four Trustee meetings a year. Although we are based in different locations around the country and most of our work is conducted online, we aim to meet in-person at least twice a year. You will also be asked to join at least one of our Working Groups, undertake tasks and projects needed for the good management and operation of the Trust, review and approve documents and proposals as required, and take part in decisions about grant giving awards. Grant giving is one of the most rewarding things we do. We love seeing the difference our investment and support can make to socialist education.

We are particularly seeking applications for the position of Trustee Treasurer who will work with the Trust Co-ordinator, external advisors and accountants, to ensure our finances are properly administered. Our finances are vitally important to us in ensuring that we continue our charitable activities and socialist educational work. Experience or understanding of financial management and accounting would be helpful. We will be happy to support appropriate training.

PFP is a UK-based charity working in Africa and Asia since 2004, and this year we are celebrating our 20th anniversary. Our Mission is to work together with local people and filmmakers to produce, distribute and show local language educational films that give help and hope to vulnerable and disadvantaged communities. Our latest activities have primarily focused on Malawi, Sierra Leone and Kenya. 

Every PFP film seeks to bring about positive change by engaging audiences with themes, characters and subjects that address important challenges facing themselves and their communities.

- Attend and contribute to quarterly Board meetings and informal catch-ups.

Role Description

Position: Treasurer (Honorary Officer and Trustee)
Reports to: Chair of the Board of Directors

Remuneration: The role of Treasurer is not accompanied by any financial remuneration, although expenses for travel may be claimed
Time Commitment: Four Board meetings and four Finance & Investment Committee meetings per year. Attendance at the annual Florence Nightingale Commemoration Service. Attendance at annual Presentation of Scholar Certificates.

The Treasurer is also expected to have regular meetings with the Chief Operating Officer (COO), and to remain in regular contact with the charity’s auditors and other stakeholders as required.

Objective

The Treasurer is responsible for overseeing the financial affairs of the Charity and ensuring they are legal, constitutional and within accepted accounting practice. You will ensure proper records are kept and that effective financial procedures are in place. You will report to the Board and the annual general meeting on the financial position of the organisation. You will oversee the production of necessary financial reports/returns, accounts and audits. In partnership with the FNF Team, the Treasurer (with COO) are responsible for the preparation of the annual financial review and accounts for approval by the Board and AGM.

We’re seeking an innovative and passionate individual to join our Board of Trustees.

Who are Maggs?

Maggs’ overarching vision and purpose is to work with partners to eliminate long-term rough sleeping in the county, whilst offering homeless and vulnerable people opportunities to thrive and realise their full potential.

The charity began in 1985 through our Worcester Day Centre in Deansway. We have since acquired a second day centre in Malvern and a countywide outreach team that boasts two additional teams: Harm Reduction and an Intensive Transition Team.

We also have our Clothing Project and Accommodation Project, providing 15 housing opportunities for former rough sleepers.

Our goal is not just to support rough sleepers in their situation, but to help them to make the changes necessary for them to change their lifestyle, by dealing with the issues that hold them back, like lack of confidence, substance abuse, or poor health, so that they can access permanent housing and return to a conventional lifestyle off the streets.

The Role:

Our trustees play a vital role in ensuring that Maggs achieves its core purpose. They oversee the overall management and administration of the charity, and Maggs has a clear strategy that aligns with our goals and vision.

Just as importantly, they support and challenge the executive team to enable Maggs to grow and thrive, and through this, work with the homeless and vulnerable to raise self-confidence thereby enabling positive life change.

Board members have a collective responsibility, meaning that trustees always act as a group and not as individuals.

Duties:

· Support and provide advice on Maggs’ purpose, vision, goals and activities.

· Approve operational strategies and policies, and monitor and evaluate their implementation.

Purpose 

The Trustee role is voluntary with meetings taking place a minimum of once a quarter. Trustees are responsible for: 

• controlling Navigates management and administration 

• ensuring that Navigates income and property are used only for the purposes set out in the 

• governing document and for no other purpose 

• acting reasonably and prudently in all matters relating to the charity 

• acting in the best interests of the charity. 

Main Duties 

1) Comply with Navigates governing document and law. The successful Trustee and your co-trustees must: 

• Make sure that the charity complies with its governing document 

• Comply with charity law requirements and other laws that apply to Navigate 

• As a Trustee, you should take responsible steps to find out about legal requirements for example, by reading relevant guidance or taking appropriate advice when you need to. 

2) Act in Navigates best interests, you must: 

• Do what you and your co-trustees (and no one else) decide will enable the Charity to carry out its purposes 

• With co-trustees make balanced and adequately informed decisions, thinking about the short term and charities future 

• Avoid putting yourself in a position where your duty to Navigate conflicts with your personal interests or loyalty to any other person or body 

• Not receive any benefit from Navigate unless it is properly authorised and is clearly in the charity’s interests; this also includes anyone who is financially connected to you. 

3) Manage Navigates resources responsibly–the successful trustee(s) must act responsibly, reasonably and honestly (duty prudence). The trustees must: 

• make sure Navigates assets are only used to support or carry out its purposes

• avoid exposing the assets, beneficiaries or reputation to undue risk 

• Not over-commit the charity 

• take special care when investing or borrowing 

• comply with any restrictions on spending funds 

4)  Act with reasonable care and skill 

• must use reasonable care and skill, making use of your skills and experience and taking appropriate advice when necessary 

• should give enough time, thought and energy to your role, for example by preparing for, attending and actively participating in all trustees’ meetings (once a quarter). 

5)  Ensure that Navigate is accountable by complying with statutory accounting and reporting requirements. You should also: 

• be able to demonstrate that your charity is complying with the law, well run and effective

• ensure appropriate accountability to members, if your charity has a membership separate from the trustees 

• ensure accountability within the charity, particularly where you delegate responsibility for particular tasks or decisions to staff or volunteers 

Essential – 

The successful candidate(s) will meet the Charities Commission eligibility criteria, specifically:

• You must be at least 16 years old to be a trustee of a charitable company or a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO), 

• You must not act as a trustee if you are disqualified under the Charities Act, unless your disqualification has been waived by the Commission. 

• Fit and proper persons - Finance Act 2010 requires all of the charity’s managers (including trustees) to be ‘fit and proper persons’. 

• Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks – an enhanced DBS check: this will include a check against the relevant barred list. 

• A client focused approach to service delivery 

• Excellent communication skills

Ever since we were founded in 1939, Citizens Advice Barnet has been providing free, confidential and impartial advice to people who live, work and study in Barnet, as well as campaigning on big issues affecting people’s lives by using the data we collect to influence policies and practices that affect the lives of people in Barnet. They do not carry out the day-to-day work of the charity and they currently meet four times a year.

The board work closely the CEO and Senior team and within this partnership, members of the board are encouraged to support and be a critical friend.

What we are looking for in a trustee

We want to keep the needs of carers at the heart of our decision making and for this reason whilst by no means essential, experience of looking after a family member or friend, either as a child or an adult, past or present, is positively considered.
It is important that our trustee board to be diverse in terms of professional backgrounds and experiences and also representative of communities that we serve within Surrey. We welcome applications regardless of sex, gender, race, age, sexuality, belief or disability.

Most importantly we are looking for board members who want to make a difference and are able to commit and contribute and be able to focus on what we want to achieve.

Training, including governance training will be provided. Whilst this is a voluntary role, reasonable expenses such as travel expenses are paid.

Positively UK is recruiting new Trustees

Positively UK is a registered UK charity providing peer-led support, advocacy, and information to everyone living with HIV. We help people manage all aspects of their diagnosis, care, and life with HIV. We are a peer lead peer run charity and 90% of our staff are living with HIV. Our vision is a society where people with HIV live happy, healthy, and stigma-free lives. Our mission is to empower and support people living with HIV with the knowledge, tools, and connections they need to live fulfilling lives and reduce the stigma surrounding HIV. Positively UK’s Board of Trustees consists of eight members whose experiences range from lived experience and HIV activism to academic, financial, and clinical backgrounds. 

We are now looking for three new Trustees to join the Board. Ideally, the new board members will have experience in one of the following areas: legal, finance, fundraising, marketing. We are looking for people committed to use their networks to advance Positively UK’s mission and vision. 

Trustee Role Description 

A Trustee shares the responsibility for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, developing the organisation’s aims, objectives, and goals in accordance with the governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines. 

Trustees advise, govern, oversee policy and direction, and assist with the leadership and general promotion of Positively UK to support the organisation’s mission and needs. 

Primary responsibilities 

• Ensuring the charity and its representatives function within the legal and regulatory framework of the sector and in line with Positively UK’s constitution 
• Upholding the fiduciary duty invested in the position, undertaking such duties in a way that adds to public confidence and trust in the charity. Determine the overall direction and development of the charity through good governance and clear strategic planning. 
• Acting in the best interest of the charity, beneficiaries, and future beneficiaries at all times. 
• Promoting and developing the charity for it to grow and maintain its relevance to society. 
• Maintaining sound financial management of the charity’s resources 
• Ensuring the expenditure is in line with the organisation’s objectives, and investment activities meet accepted standards and policies. 
• Ensuring the effective and efficient administration of the charity and its resources, acting as a counter-signatory on charity cheques and any applications for funds as requested. 
• Interviewing, appointing and performance monitoring of senior staff. 

Expectations 

• Attend and participate in meetings on a regular basis, and at special events as able. 
• Participate on a standing committee of the board, and serve on ad-hoc committees as necessary. 
• Be alert to community concerns that can be addressed by Positively UK’s mission, objectives, and programmes. 
• Help communicate and promote Positively UK’s activities widely 
• Be familiar with Positively UK’s finances and financial needs. 
• Understand Positively UK’s policies and procedures. 

Length of term 

• Two years, which may be renewed indefinitely. Proposal and approval are ratified at the Annual General Meeting in November. 

Meetings and time commitment 

• The Board of Trustees meets every two months (online or at Positively UK’s offices). The November meeting is combined with the Annual General Meeting. 
• Trustees are asked to attend additional meetings as representatives of Positively UK as they are determined. 

Accountability 

Trustees (individually) and the Board (collectively) are responsible and liable for the governance and functioning of the charity. They are accountable to a variety of stakeholders, including service users, members, the Charity Commission, and Companies House.
