About us: The Historic Towns and Villages Forum (HTVF) is an independent charity with a mission to promote the prosperity, sustainability and heritage of historic cities, towns and villages for the benefit of all.
We provide support, training and information to organisations (including local authorities, town and parish councils, civic and amenity societies, and consultancies) as well as individual professionals, students, and members of the public engaged in the planning and management of historic cities, towns and villages. We aim to help them conserve the character and significance of historic places, while realising their full social, environmental and economic potential. We do this through events, research projects, publications, and partnerships.
What we’re looking for: We are seeking a minimum of three individuals with experience in one or more of the following areas to join our Board of Trustees:
- Senior professional leadership in a Local Authority
- Placemaking and urban regeneration expertise
- Marketing and fundraising
- Financial management
- Community and political engagement
- Research programme development and management
For these roles we also value:
- Innovative Thinking: HTVF is entering a new phase of development. A creative and forward-thinking approach to challenges and opportunities is sought from our new intake of trustees. The ability to facilitate the Forum’s engagement with other organisations and groups would be helpful too.
- Geographical Spread: We aim for a wide geographical representation and welcome applications from across the UK, bearing in mind some meetings will be face-to-face in either London or Oxford.

Role Description
We are looking for a Chair to run the Board of Trustees as part time and voluntary role.
The Board of Trustees provides the executive with support and guidance. The Chair is responsible for leading the Board of Trustees and sub-Committees, providing vision, strategic direction and making decisions that impact the organisation and wider community. A time commitment of a day a week is needed with the opportunity to contribute more time if desired.

YOUR COMMITMENT
Whilst the Trustee Board meets for formal meetings 6 times a year, successful candidates will be expected to contribute to the organisation more widely, taking part in fundraisers, external events, strategic planning and advising the staff team when needed. The average contribution expected of Trustees is around one - two hours per month.
Work-related travel costs will be reimbursed.

Citizens Advice Plymouth employs 180 staff and has 50 volunteers, who work both locally and nationally to support people who have problems with debt, housing, welfare benefits, employment and many other advice areas.

The Role
We currently have 9 Trustees and are looking to strengthen our Board of Trustees with 2 new Trustees, who can use their professional and lived experiences, skills and talents to contribute to the on-going success of the Charity. We are specifically seeking individuals who offer experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Chair designate to take over from the current Chair once inducted and has a full understanding of the organisation. We expect that to take approximately 6-12 months depending on time commitments.
- Finance and accounting (not necessarily within a charitable setting, but this would be beneficial) in order to succeed our current Treasurer in 2 years’ time.

CPRE campaigns nationally and locally for positive solutions which safeguard the long-term future of our precious countryside which is facing multiple threats. At national level, the charity produces in-depth research and sound arguments to press government, Parliament and other decision-makers to support our countryside, be it national landscapes or simply much loved local green spaces, through policies which ensure:

The role
Our small but energetic team of volunteer Trustees enable people to protect the countryside they love and enjoy the benefits it brings wherever they live. But with your support we can do even more!
In joining us as a Trustee on the Board you’ll have a general role in developing the charity in line with our strategy and, together with other Trustees, ensuring compliance with Charity Commission and other legal and governance regulations. However additionally as our Lead for Local Authority Communications you will use your particular knowledge of policy development in this arena to inform and guide the Trustee Board on Local Authority campaigning and coordinate and drive forward related activities to meet agreed aims.
+Trustees initially serve a three-year term and may serve up to six years in total.

Uttlesford Foodbank are seeking someone with fundraising and grant applications experience at board level, ensuring that the Board of Trustees are aware of and kept up to date with any fundraising or grant developments and build a sound fundraising strategy as we move forward. This role involves leading on fundraising affairs for the food bank and ensuring that they are conducted within good practice frameworks.
Responsibilities
As a trustee you will share collective responsibility for the governance of the food bank and all decisions made by the board, ensuring the organisation is well run, fulfils its mission, is compliant with charity law and that the charity is open and accountable. It is also the responsibility of the treasurer to work in partnership with the chairperson and other trustees to ensure the financial viability and development of the organisation.
Key tasks
Trustee (Fund Raising & Grants Lead) Responsibilities:
- to work alongside the director, treasurer and the rest of the board to plan what level of funds are required to be generated to ensure the effective running of the charity
- to work alongside the trustee board to ensure that all grants are sought and written with the purpose of meeting the charity’s vision and objectives
- To lead on the organisation of local fund-raising opportunities to support the running of the charity, including incorporating national Trussell fund raising campaigns/events throughout the year to oversee, with operational management support, the writing of high-quality grant applications that are in line with the charity’s vision and objectives
- to regularly communicate to the rest of the trustee board via trustee meetings or any other communication, any relevant information and/or developments regarding fund raising or grant applications.
Other responsibilities, along with the board of trustees, include:
- to approve, support, and guide the charity’s purpose, vision, strategy, goals and objectives
- to manage the charity’s resources responsibly, including ensuring the charity’s assets are used only to carry out its purpose, avoid undue risk, and not over-commit the charity
- to ensure the effective and efficient administration of the charity, responding to changes in the local community as appropriate to ensure that key risks are identified, monitored, and controlled appropriately
- to ensure appropriate financial plans are in place, budgets are monitored, and progress is evaluated
- to review and approve financial statements
- to help promote the organisation to key stakeholders and beneficiaries
- to ensure the charity has appropriate procedures to comply with current legislation and good practice, including employment, health and safety, equity, diversity and inclusion, safeguarding, and GDPR compliance/data protection
- to prepare for and regularly attend and participate in board and subcommittee meetings and any trustee away days.

About the role:
The current Chair, Professor Steven Haberman, is approaching the end of his period of tenure and we are therefore looking for a new Chair to succeed him.
Our Chair is expected to be independent on appointment and to remain independent throughout their tenure. The primary responsibilities of the Chair are as follows:
- To promote and oversee the highest standards of governance within the Board and the London Foundation for Banking & Finance.
- To lead the Board and in particular to lead discussions on all proposals put forward by the CEO and the senior executive team.
- Together with the CEO, to set an agenda for the Board which takes full account of the issues facing the London Foundation for Banking & Finance and the concerns of Board members and:
- is focused on strategic matters
- is forward looking and
- evaluates and oversees current business.
- To maintain a proper process to ensure all matters for which the Board has responsibility are considered by the Board.
- To ensure that Board members receive accurate, timely and clear information to enable them to monitor performance, make sound decisions and give appropriate advice to promote the success of the London Foundation for Banking & Finance.
- To manage Board meetings so that sufficient time is allowed for the discussion of complex or contentious issues and that all Board members' contributions are encouraged and valued.
- To chair, serve on or attend such Committees of the Board as the Board may determine. Currently the Chair of the Board also acts as Chair of the Nomination & Remuneration Committee.
- Supported by the Nomination & Remuneration Committee, to plan governor succession.
- To encourage active engagement by all members of the Board.
- To create the conditions for overall Board and individual governor effectiveness including promotion of an appropriate induction programme for new governors, creating the opportunity for the maintenance of the relevant skills and knowledge required to fulfil the governors’ roles on the Board and its Committees and ensuring the Board undertakes a regular evaluation of its own performance, that of its Committees and that of individual trustees, including the Chair.
- To address the development needs of the Board as a whole with a view to enhancing its overall effectiveness.
- To be a sounding board and mentor to the CEO.
- If a new CEO is required, to lead the process for identifying suitable successors and to chair the Nomination & Remuneration Committee recommending a candidate or candidates to the Board.
- To represent the London Foundation for Banking & Finance with external parties where required (in addition to the CEO). In particular this is envisaged in relation to fund raising activities.
You will have:
- Worked in a previous Chair or Vice Chair role, ideally with experience in financial services, education or technology.
- Capable of working in tandem with CEO.
- Enthusiasm for education.
- Aptitude for using leading edge technology.
- An entrepreneurial mindset.
- Integrity, probity and high ethical standards.
- Sound judgement in a variety of contexts.
- Ability and willingness to challenge and probe.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with an inquiring mind and ability to listen to the views of others, question intelligently and debate and challenge constructively.
- Ability to bring a high degree of objectivity to board deliberations.
- A strong strategic thinker (although the strategy has already been established).
- Complex problem solving and critical reasoning skills, evaluating and analysing information.
- Independence.
- Well connected and able to nurture existing relationships for sponsorship and funding opportunities.
- Outstanding communication and advocacy skills.

Skaped is an East-London community-led Artivist organisation that encourages young people to engage with community building and social change through the creative arts. As an organisation, we run relatable creative workshops, educational programmes and art projects for 11-30-year-olds mainly from marginalised communities. Our programmes have sparked conversations surrounding societal change, decolonisation, gender equality, gentrification, migration, anti-discrimination, and the like.
