Art History Link-Up (AHLU) is a registered charity dedicated to making art history accessible to young people from diverse backgrounds. We provide free accredited art history courses to state school students, equipping them with skills that enhance their academic and professional futures. Our mission is to foster a more inclusive and equitable art world by breaking down barriers to participation.
AHLU has been transforming Art History education since 2016 through its flagship ‘Art History for Everyone’ programme. These free-of-charge hybrid courses, taught in partnership with major cultural institutions including The Courtauld and The National Gallery, enable state school sixth-form students to gain an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and/or an A Level in Art History. Each year, demand for these courses significantly exceeds available places. Our students consistently achieve high grades in their A Level and EPQ qualifications.
Over 600 students from over 300 state schools across the UK have studied with AHLU. Many of our students are now studying Art History at Russell Group universities, including significant numbers at the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, and the Courtauld Institute, reflecting the impact of our programme on widening access to higher education. Alumni of our programmes have secured roles at leading cultural institutions, including Christie’s and the National Portrait Gallery, illustrating the professional impact of our programmes.
From 2022 onwards, AHLU piloted Introduction to Art History courses for 13- to-15 year olds in museums and galleries, including Dulwich Picture Gallery, the National Gallery, Sir John Soane’s Museum, the Courtauld and Waddesdon Manor. By 2024, it was clear that students wanted an accredited award as a potential outcome to their studies. In response to this, we began offering Art History Higher Project Qualification (HPQ) courses, which are equivalent to half a GCSE.
AHLU will teach in excess of 200 state students in 2024-5. We have over 80 students on our free Art History A Level and EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) courses for state sixth form students, and c.120 students studying on our free Art History HPQ (Higher Project Qualification) courses for Y9/10 state students this year.
While AHLU fills a considerable skills gap, our charity only hints at the demand: currently thousands of young people who love art, and have much to contribute, are missing out on opportunities. No other charity is doing this work. We are seeking a Chair with the relevant experience and determination who will relish the challenge of making our mission of ‘Art History for everyone’ a reality.

Vibes in Care CIC is a newly forming Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) dedicated to amplifying the voices of children and young people who are care-experienced or at risk. By harnessing insights from lived experience, we develop training, workshops, and advocacy initiatives that reshape professional practices within the care sector.
- Founded on Lived Experience: We believe that those who have gone through the care system have the clearest insights into how to improve it.
- Innovative Training & Workshops: Our programmes empower professionals - such as social workers, educators, and youth workers - to bring about lasting change in how care is delivered.
- Collaborative Culture: Partnership is at the heart of ViC. We work closely with local authorities, youth organisations, and sector specialists to co-create solutions.
Why We Need You
We are seeking Trustees who share our passion for transforming the care experience. Whether you have direct care experience (e.g., have been in care yourself), professional experience in the sector, or simply a deep commitment to improving outcomes for care-experienced children and young people, your voice and leadership are invaluable at this pivotal stage of our growth.
The Role
- Steer Strategic Vision: Help shape and refine ViC’s long-term plans, ensuring that lived experience remains at the core of every decision.
- Champion Good Governance: Oversee compliance with charity regulations, manage financial health, and set policies that maintain transparency and integrity.
- Advocate for Care-Experienced Children and Young People: Act as an ambassador, raising awareness about ViC’s mission and the importance of centring care-experienced voices.
- Support Growth & Partnerships: Contribute insights on fundraising, partnership-building, and community engagement to help ViC expand its reach and impact.
What We’re Looking For
- Care Experience (Highly Valued): We particularly encourage applications from individuals who have first-hand insights into the care system.
- Dedication to Social Impact: A genuine desire to improve day-to-day experiences and long-term outcomes for care-experienced children and young people.
- Collaborative Mindset: Ability to work well in a team, valuing diverse perspectives and open dialogue.
- Integrity & Oversight: Commitment to upholding the highest ethical standards and acting in the best interests of ViC’s beneficiaries.
- Strategic Thinking: Capable of understanding big-picture objectives, assessing organisational risks, and spotting growth opportunities.
Skills & Experience (Desirable)
- Professional or Personal Care Experience: Lived experience, in social care work, child protection, or related fields.
- Finance/Accounting: Competent in budget oversight, financial planning, or grant management.
- Legal & Compliance: Familiarity with UK charity regulations or basic legal frameworks.
- HR & Governance: Ability to guide policy setting, recruitment, and staff/volunteer support.
- Fundraising & Communications: Skill in securing resources and raising organisational visibility.
What’s In It For You?
- A Real Chance to Influence: Your perspective will be integral in shaping how ViC evolves.
- Professional Development: Gain governance experience, hone leadership skills, and build your professional network.
- Impact & Legacy: Contribute directly to improving practices that affect some of society’s most vulnerable young people.
- Flexible & Supportive Environment: We meet quarterly, with much of our collaboration happening remotely, so you can fit your responsibilities around other commitments.
Time Commitment
- Board Meetings: Held four times per year (virtually or in person).
- Preparation & Engagement: A few hours each quarter to review papers and stay updated on organisational developments.
- Additional Involvement: Optional sub-committees or working groups on areas like safeguarding, finance, and training delivery.
Application Process
- CV & Cover Letter: Apply via CharityJob outlining your relevant experience (especially care experience), why you’re passionate about our cause, and how you hope to contribute as a Trustee.
- Informal Interview: We’ll invite shortlisted candidates for a conversation with our Director (Founder) to explore mutual fit and answer any questions.
- Appointment: Successful applicants will be welcomed onto the board, pending usual referencing and compliance checks.
Join us in creating meaningful change for care-experienced children and young people. Your lived insight, passion, and dedication could transform how professionals approach care and, ultimately, transform futures. We look forward to hearing from you!

Mental Health Professional Advisor
Business Development/Sales
Marketing/Merchandising
Construction/Facilities
Are you passionate about supporting the third sector? Do you want to ‘give back’, make a real difference and have the time to help us achieve our ambitious plans for growth? If the answers to these questions are yes, then we could be the organisation you are looking for and we would love to hear from you.
Better Pathways is a Birmingham based mental health charity that has been delivering support to people with mental health issues, learning disabilities and other neurodiverse conditions for over 60 years. We support our beneficiaries to build back and maintain good mental health and wellbeing, to access services in the community and to move into paid employment, education, training and volunteering opportunities. We do this through a Vocational Pathways Programme delivered in our social enterprises onsite in Digbeth, and through statutory sector contracts delivered in the community.
We are a relatively small charity, with a current turnover that hovers around the £1m, but with big ambitions to grow. Our agenda is broad and complex, and we are looking for Trustees with the right experience to provide advice, guidance and practical support to help us achieve our aims.
Mental Health Professional Advisor
We have recently recruited a counsellor and psychotherapist into our team and want to build on this, innovating our mental health offer for the future. For example, we are having initial discussions with a key industry about the potential to provide mental health support/counselling services for their large workforce. We are also committed to improving the way in which we measure and evidence the impact of our work. You can come from any mental health clinical profession, but we imagine that a senior clinical psychologist or counsellor would add real value to our trustee team.
Business Development/Sales
If you have knowledge of, or experience and networks in, the parts assembly & packing business, preferably in the manufacturing, industrial engineering and parts & retail distribution sectors, and/or experience of the signage business, and would be energised by the prospect of advising our team on business growth/sales strategy, then we have just the opportunity for you across our three social enterprises:
Better Packing: Parts assembly and contract packing
Better Pathways is the legal operating name of Birmingham Industrial Therapy Association Limited. Founded in 1963.
Better Signage: Business signage services (interior &exterior signage, wide format vinyl printing, flat bed printing, laser cutting and engraving, name badges, vinyl graphics). We are looking to developed personalised products for direct to consumer and b2b sales
Better Woodwork: Products for the home and garden made from reclaimed timber
Marketing/Merchandising
We have updated our branding and website, are reaching out on LinkedIn, attending networking events and more. As we start to concentrate on new product development, especially in our Signage and Woodwork enterprises, but seek to consolidate our existing offers at the same time, expertise in how best to reach the right markets would be a much welcomed addition to our trustee skillset.
Construction/Facilities
We own our building. We love it, but it leaks when it rains, is difficult and expensive to heat and maintain. We have ambitious plans to ‘Raise the Roof’ (ie, build a new one), to build in a mezzanine floor to create capacity for growth, and to remodel our front of house. We are working with a team to produce Stage 2a design plans for submission to planning and then will be raising funds and exploring options to work with constructors. If you can help with this important part of our agenda, we’d love to hear from you.
Time Commitment
Board meetings: once a quarter for two hours
Strategy session (4 hours): once or twice a year
Other commitments: occasional ad-hoc meetings, again kept to a minimum
