Specific qualifications are not necessarily required and we welcome applicants with lived experience. A genuine interest in learning about our charity and our services within the local community is essential.

These trustees will help to form a new board dedicated to supporting the charity and contributing to the effective and quality governance of Trust House. You will play an active role in developing the strategic direction of the charity and provide guidance to ensure the charity continues to support anyone affected by rape or sexual abuse in the Thames Valley area.

Our client is a registered Charity Incorporated Organisation that aims to support and invest in young people (predominantly 18-25 years old) through their adolescent years which can be difficult because of both personal circumstances and the injustices in society. The Trust is looking for a new Safeguarding Lead Trustee to join their inclusive, inspiring and professional Board. You will be the champion for safeguarding throughout the organisation and Board and will bring excellent experience around safeguarding young people, with support from the Safeguarding Committee. The Student Publication Association (SPA) is recruiting charity trustees to assist its work in advancing the education of student journalists across the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.

As a small, student-led charity, we support more than 330 member publications around the UK and Republic of Ireland, offering advice, training, and recognition at both our regional and national awards.

Our trustee board plays a vital role in our governance, ensuring that we remain within the boundaries of charity law, protecting the charity’s long-term stability, and supporting our student executives.

For this round of applications, we are particularly keen to hear from applicants with expertise relevant to the journalism industry.

No previous experience in journalism or as a charity trustee is required — but we do ask that you share our commitment to the advancement of student journalism.

About The Role

As a small volunteer-run charity, we anticipate the role would take up an average of 1-2 hours a week, although this may increase during busier periods for the SPA, such as around our annual national conference (SPANC).

As a trustee, you will be a collaborative and supportive team player who will:

• Attend monthly oversight meetings with the executive committee and other trustees;
• Attend other meetings and 1-2-1s as needed on an ad hoc basis;

At the Mental Health Foundation, we are seeking an experienced Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees. The opportunity

SJAC has ambitious plans in place and a new strategy. We are seeking two trustees to join our board, one of which we require to have a fundraising background and expertise.

ABOUT SPRINGBOARD

Springboard Youth Academy supports refugee and asylum-seeking young people who have recently arrived in the UK to help them succeed in the classroom and beyond. By combining participatory learning, life skills and holistic support into action-packed weekend, half-term and summer programming, we work to bridge the gap in support for young people left behind by the mainstream school system.

As educators and youth workers with years of experience working to offset the challenges these young people face, we launched a programme that helps young people develop their English language and self-advocacy skills whilst addressing their social and wellbeing needs, preparing them for mainstream education and helping them rebuild their lives in the UK.

We do this by providing interactive and engaging programming that combines English learning, life skills and practical and emotional strategies for young people on their journey to independence and adulthood.

TIME COMMITMENT

In line with all charities, Trustees are unpaid volunteers. Trustees must be able to commit to attending quarterly Board meetings and making time to read paperwork in advance of Board meetings. As a small charity, our resources are limited and Trustees are also asked to actively contribute their skills in relevant areas. As a guideline, Trustees must be prepared to offer a minimum of two hours per month to the charity. 

As a Trustee, you will be required to attend quarterly meetings. We also require new Trustees to spend one day on site during one of our programmes to get a feel for the work, as well as undertake Trustee and Safeguarding training, within the first three months of starting the role. Board meetings are currently held virtually, and, where possible, are arranged at least two months ahead. On occasion, Trustees will be required to respond by email or phone in relation to issues that arise outside of Board meetings. Travel costs will be covered if they are a barrier. 

We are seeking a volunteer Trustee to join the Board of Trustees at WORTH to collectively oversee the administration and financial governance of the charity. The board is our governing body, providing strategy and direction and ensuring WORTH is run according to the rules.

WORTH is a charity providing long term aftercare to women affected by Domestic Abuse. We offer clients 1-1 support and a range of wellbeing groups including art, writing, music and self-defence to help rebuild their confidence and self-esteem.

We provide a safe space for clients to share experiences, give and receive practical and emotional support, learn new skills, reduce isolation, build friendships, and give women their voice back. The British Liver Trust is a small charity with big ambitions. Liver disease deserves the profile and awareness of the other big killer diseases such as heart disease, stroke, and cancer.  And we want you to help us. 

As a trustee, you will play a pivotal role in providing governance and guidance to ensure we are delivering for people with liver disease and liver cancer. The Mlambe Project builds school infrastructure in Malawi Africa, one of the poorest countries in the world.  We change lives through enabling access to education by transforming classrooms from "under a tree" (literally) into fully functional school blocks. About James’ Place

James’ Place Charity was set up by Clare Milford Haven and Nick Wentworth-Stanley in 2008 after their twenty-one-year-old son, James, died by suicide ten days after a minor operation. James had no history of mental illness or depression and had sought urgent help for anxiety and suicidal thoughts but didn’t find it. We know that suicide is the biggest killer of men under 50, and we know that many men find it difficult to reach out for help.

James’ Place was set up to make the experience of finding help as easy as possible. James’ Place offers men who are experiencing a suicidal crisis a brief, intensive, therapeutic intervention in a safe environment. Men who walk through the door at James’ Place will be in a space where they feel valued and respected.

The Chair’s aim is to enable the board to fulfil their responsibilities for the overall governance and strategic direction of the organisation.

The Chair will ensure that the organisation complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations and to make sure that the organisation pursues its objects as defined in its governing document.

The Chair's role is also to work in partnership with the Director and support the employees, helping them achieve the aims of the organisation; and to optimise the relationship between the board of Trustees and staff.

It would be an advantage if the Chair was able to commit to a three-year term.

This position is not remunerated but reasonable out of pocket expenses incurred fulfilling the duties of the role are reimbursed.

Main Responsibilities:

• Providing leadership for the board of trustees in their role of setting the strategy and policy of the organisation.
• Chairing and facilitating the board meetings.
• Liaising regularly with the Director and Treasurer to maintain a clear grasp of the charity’s financial position and to ensure full and timely financial transparency and information disclosure to the Board.
• Representing the organisation at appropriate events, meetings or functions.
• Acting as a spokesperson for the organisation where appropriate.
• Leading the Board in fostering relations with potential partners/funders/donors.
• Consulting with the Director on matters of strategy, governance, finance and HR.
• With the Director, raising funds for the charity.
• Maintaining careful oversight of any risk to reputation and/or financial standing of the organisation.
• With the Director, maintaining oversight of the organisation’s work and financial performance.
• Reviewing and appraising the performance of the Director.
• Attending and being a member of other working groups when appropriate.

What difference will you make?

The Chair of Trustees provides leadership alongside the paid Director, and is therefore one of the most influential and important roles in the charity. We are looking for a Chair who can contribute strategic vision as we move to the next level in terms of impact, professionalism and size.

Polymyalgia Rheumatica (PMR) and Giant Cell Arteritis (GCA) are linked rheumatic conditions that are little known by the public and have been poorly understood in medicine, although scientific interest in them is now increasing. They can strike separately, but often together and usually affect older people. They cause severe pain and discomfort and the standard treatment is long-term use of corticosteroids. Undiagnosed and untreated GCA can lead to catastrophic sight loss, although this is easily prevented if caught in time.

Polymyalgia Rheumatica & Giant Cell Arteritis UK (PMRGCAuk) is a registered charity established to meet the needs of people with these debilitating conditions, their friends, families and helping professionals.

We offer information and support at all stages – from diagnosis through to recovery. We provide information packs, a helpline, newsletters, support groups around the country, and a web forum where you can share your experiences and learn from other people with PMR and GCA.

Are you willing to give your time and expertise to support those in food poverty in N22 and surrounding areas?

Bounds Green Food Bank has been in existence since 2020, operating as an independent charity since September 2023.  Our Board of 5 Trustees seek to recruit additional people to add to our team.

We are particularly interested in people who have skills in the areas of fundraising, communication and organisational development – however, we also welcome applications from those with a genuine interest and the ability to contribute to our strategy and future direction.

Hours: 1-3 hours a week, to find around your schedule. Includes 2-hour monthly meetings (online).

Location: Remote with occasional meetings in N22, London.

About Bounds Green Food Bank: 

Open since June 2020, we serve over 1,500 children and adults in the community. We are committed to improving lives by providing food and essential household items to build a healthy, hunger-free tomorrow. We strive to promote social inclusion by supporting people who find themselves in a crisis situation where they need assistance to feed themselves and their families.

The role: 

• As trustees, you must:

1. always act in the best interests of the charity – you must not let your personal interests, views or prejudices affect your conduct as a trustee.

2. act reasonably and responsibly in all matters relating to the charity – act with as much care as if you were dealing with your own affairs, taking advice if you need it.

3. only use the charity’s income and property for the purposes set out in its governing document.

4. make decisions in line with good practice and the rules set by the charity’s governing document.

Person specification: 

• Understand and support the purpose of BGFB as a community led organisation whose primary aim is to prevent/relieve poverty.

• Either have lived experience, or understand the reasons for food poverty and why BGFB is an important asset to our community. 

• Can work collaboratively with others in a team, using their skills to make decisions in the best interests of BGFB, holding responsibility and accountability individually and jointly. 

• Can demonstrate awareness and understanding of the legal responsibilities of being a Trustee, and best practice in charity governance.

• Must be able to obtain a DBS, be able to attend required training and meetings (usually twice per month), and have not been disqualified to stand as a Trustee/Director.

Experience required: 

• We are particularly interested in people with expertise in fundraising and communication. However, we would also like to hear from anyone who has skills and experience they can use to help us achieve our strategic goals. The list below are possible areas but should not be considered as finite:

1. Community organising. 

2. Safeguarding/health and safety. 

3. Food distribution. 

4. Human resources/legal.

• Experience and knowledge of volunteer-led organisations would be helpful but is not essential.
