The Smart Works service is delivered in London, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Newcastle, Reading, Leeds and shortly we will be opening a new centre in Bristol. Over the course of this year, we will help 10,000 women. It is our mission that any woman who needs our service should be able to find her way to a Smart Works centre.
To achieve our growth and maintain the quality of our service, our target income will be over £5m next year, with a balanced model across our key funding sources: corporate partnerships, trusts and foundations and high value events and activities.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Smart Works is looking for a dynamic, hands-on and inspirational fundraising professional to join our outstanding staff team and lead the Partnerships function in an Interim role. This position is anticipated to last for an initial period of 6 months, with the possibility of extension if required. We aim to fill this role as soon as possible, so applications will only be considered from those able to start in January.
The successful candidate will be collaborative and lead by example, reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with other Senior Leadership Team members to achieve the charity’s short-term objectives during this transitional period. It will be crucial to have the seniority, credibility, and experience to lead the existing dynamic and passionate team of fundraisers, as well as stewarding long-term partnerships with top-tier brands, corporates and funders. Candidates will also need to demonstrate the entrepreneurial drive to look at new and innovative ways to grow income and the ability to thrive in a fast paced and changing environment.
A core priority for this interim role will be supporting the Partnerships team, maintaining key relationships, and ensuring continuity during a period of change.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This interim position will play a key role in delivering the shared objectives of the Senior Leadership Team and is specifically responsible for the income streams. In the interim period, this will focus on maintaining stability within the team and ensuring immediate priorities are met. Duties include:

Driving high-value income growth, focusing on maintaining key partnerships and ensuring continuity across the team and with external stakeholders.

Supporting and empowering the team to manage immediate priorities, while identifying opportunities for longer-term income growth.

Overseeing partnership management and stewardship plans, ensuring excellent relationship management is maintained across the team.

Providing immediate support for key fundraising events and activities, including International Women’s Day campaigns and other upcoming initiatives.

Working closely with the CEO and take an active part in the Senior Leadership Team to deliver stability-focused objectives for this transitional period.

Monitoring pipeline development, overseeing income tracking, budget-setting and forecasting, working closely and maintaining strong communications with the CEO, Director of Finance, Chair, Treasurer and Boards of Trustees.

Ensuring best fundraising practices in line with relevant legislation.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
Essential Criteria

At least 5+ years of experience in building and motivating high-performing teams.

Experience delivering an ambitious income growth strategy.

Significant experience working on corporate and commercial partnerships, plus at least one other income stream.

Experience of high-profile relationship management, including senior level partnership and stakeholder management.

Experience managing five, six and seven figure income relationships within a charitable setting.

Desirable Criteria

Experience overseeing major fundraising events and campaigns.

BENEFITS, TERMS, AND CONDITIONS
- Full-time role, based in our Smart Works centre in Islington, London.
- Monday - Friday with typical working hours 9am - 5pm in line with centre opening times. Happy to discuss flexible working at the interview with a minimum of 3 days a week working from the centre. There may be occasional evening and weekend work required where senior representation is needed to support activities as well as occasional travel to centres across the UK.
- Gross annual salary of £65,000-£70,000 FTE with flexibility depending on experience and fit.

- Mange CRASH’s attendance at such events and look to drive increased revenue from attendance at industry events.

- Create and distribute engaging content for charity projects and promotional materials across various channels, including social media, email, newsletters, website, press releases and marketing materials ensuring alignment with brand values and organisational goals.
- Attend project visits with the projects team to help create story content.
- Lead on content scheduling and publishing, ensuring messages are timely and relevant.

Required Skills and Qualifications
- Formal qualification in Marketing, Public Relations, Event Management, or qualified by experience.
- Previous experience in communications, event management, or a related role, preferably within a nonprofit setting.

- Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience in social media management, content creation, and digital marketing.

- Gross Annual Salary: £45,000 full-time pro rata (post offered at 0.6 FTE i.e. £27,000 with the potential to rise to 1 FTE). In addition, IEEP UK matches pension contributions up to 6% of gross salary.

Overall role and responsibilities
We are seeking to employ an experienced finance and operations professional to play a central role in our UK team as we grow. We are looking for a candidate with excellent financial and operations skills and experience, who will thrive working in a small and dynamic team.
The successful candidate will join a cohesive, impact-oriented and supportive team that is committed to the professional development of all of its staff, and where the opportunities for learning and for making a difference are high. The responsibilities of this role will include:
1. Financial Management
- Be responsible for and run the organisation’s bookkeeping and financial management processes including invoices, expenses and bank payments.
- Produce and manage the organisational cash flow, project cash flows and management accounts.
- Be responsible for and run payroll monthly.
- Compile and submit VAT returns quarterly.
- Support the Executive Director with managing the charity and project budgets and financial reporting to the board and funders.
- Work with the organisation’s Accountant and trustees to support the production of Annual Accounts and Independent Examination.
2. Administration
- Oversee the day-to-day administration of the charity to promote smooth business operations, including the efficiency of organisational systems.
- Ensure that appropriate insurance cover is maintained, and manage any claims as they arise.
- Support the Executive Director with board meetings and other board matters.
- Support Executive Director and trustees in ensuring Charity Commission and Companies House information is up to date.
- Support the maintenance of our contacts databas
3. HR
- Manage recruitment and induction of new staff and volunteers.
- Create, implement and review all policies and procedures for the organisation, ensuring we are up to date with statutory requirements, and good practice is incorporated where practical.
- Manage HR procedures including contracts and leave for staff.
The role will also include:
- Support in organising events online and in person.
- Assisting in responses to general enquiries to the organisation.
- Potential line management of junior staff and interns as appropriate.
- Contribute actively to the implementation of Institute-wide decisions and strategy.
- Organise weekly team meetings, and occasional in-person team meetings.
- Supporting and promoting diversity and equality of opportunity in the organisation.
Personal Specification
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate many of the following skills and attributes:
Essential:
- A relevant professional accountancy qualification (AAT, CIMA, ACA, ACCA) with some experience of working independently or with minimal supervision, preferably in the charity sector.
- At least 3 years’ relevant professional experience in a similar administrative, financial or management role.
- Experience of using accounting software and managing the financial administration of an organisation including paying and issuing invoices, reconciling bank accounts, and running payroll.
- Experience and confidence in producing and managing an organisational cashflow, budgets and management accounts.
- Experience of preparing and submitting VAT returns.
- Experience of creating and reviewing HR policies and procedures.
- Excellent communication skills
- As part of a small team you will also need the ability to turn your hand to a variety of tasks.

Desirable:
- Background, interest and experience in environmental policy, and the UK’s relationship with the EU and the rest of Europe.
- Experience and aptitude in using MS Teams, Zoom, Miro or other online meeting, webinar and facilitation tools, as a participant and as an organiser.

- Skills in digital communications and social networking.
- Experience of charity administration.
- Experience of communicating with a range of stakeholders including trustees.

CLPE is based in our beautiful Grade 2 listed building in Southwark. Our Centre houses an amazing collection of 25,000 children’s books as well as being a training and event centre for teachers, publishers and everyone else who works with children’s literature and cares about children’s literacy. We currently have a small fundraising team that has been together since April 2023, consisting of a Partnerships Manager, a Trusts and Foundations Manager and an Events Co-ordinator. The new Interim Head of Fundraising will lead this team, including our Communications and Marketing Manager.
Our desire is not just to bring a person on board who will lead the team from behind the lines, but someone who will take full ownership of the fundraising targets and be the visible lead fundraiser of the charity.
We want someone who will effectively deliver year one of our new three-year fundraising and marketing strategy to achieve future planned growth. Key responsibilities will be:
Team Leadership
- Take ownership of the fundraising targets and ensure that they are met.
- Lead the fundraising team and be ultimately responsible for their job satisfaction, appraisals and personal development.
- Ensure continuous evaluation of all fundraising activity.
- Monitor progress of each stream of fundraising and make adjustments as needed to achieve targets.
Relationship Generation and Stewardship
- Establish and nurture strong relationships with existing and potential donors, including individuals and corporations.
- Develop and implement tailored cultivation and stewardship plans to enhance donor engagement and loyalty.
- Ensure that regular communication with donors is in place, providing updates on projects, expressing gratitude, and soliciting continued support.
Strategy
- Lead on the execution of the new three-year fundraising strategy aligned with the charity’s mission and goals.
- Identify and explore new fundraising opportunities and innovative techniques to maximize revenue generation.
- Work as part of the Senior Management Team to develop plans and budgets that support the delivery of the organisation's strategic aims.
Reporting, Monitoring & Budgeting
- Report as required on all activity and progress to the Senior Management Team, (trustees) and Board of Trustees and its Fundraising Sub-committee.
- Monitor and manage expenditure related to fundraising activities, ensuring cost-effectiveness and adherence to budgetary constraints.
- Lead on development and upkeep of pipeline processes, ensuring high quality and live information is available across the fundraising team and finance functions.
ABOUT YOU
Your Key Strengths:
- Be a highly experienced and proven fundraiser, with at least five years of UK based charity fundraising experience.
- Have exceptional interpersonal skills - comfortable speaking with senior business leaders, decision makers and High Net Worth individuals…. And comfortable making ‘the ask’!
- Maintain high levels of discretion and tact; able to maintain confidentiality.
- Be personable yet decisive and confident, capable of working with and inspiring colleagues and volunteers.
- Have exceptional organisational and critical thinking skills; able to keep abreast of all the different streams of income and prioritise projects.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
- This is an interim role, for 12 months from January 2025.
- The salary is £50,000 - £55,000 depending on experience.
- You will get 25 days annual leave per year plus UK National Holidays. Also, we give any normal working days between Christmas and New Year as additional holidays.
- Reasonable flexible working arrangement , but you must have the ability to work outside of core hours and travel across the UK when necessary.
