This is an exciting time to join the NHM’s Development team, as we have launched a major capital campaign that is set to rejuvenate the Museum spaces and transform access to our collections. Alongside this we have secured investment from the UK Government to build a major new science and digitisation centre at the Thames Valley Science Park in collaboration with the University of Reading. The purpose-built centre will house much of the Museum's collection and will include laboratories, digitisation suites, collaborative research spaces, conservation labs and workspaces.

 Job Summary

Development Group generates philanthropic and sponsorship income to help us create a Natural History Museum for the future – investing in capital development, attaining vital acquisitions for the collection, transforming our galleries, developing innovative exhibitions and undertaking ground-breaking scientific research on issues that affect us all.

The Museum is looking for an ambitious and self-motivated individual for the role of Philanthropy Manager. The role will contribute to our strategic priorities, working closely with the Senior Principal Gifts manager to cultivate and maintain relationships with new and existing funders. With opportunities to fundraise towards a diverse range of core and capital projects.

Working alongside an approachable and highly successful Philanthropy team, reporting into the Senior Principal Gifts manager, the role will support the development of our Principal giving strategy, building relationships with a portfolio of potential and existing funders engaging them through phone calls, meetings, written correspondence, events and by creating compelling proposals.

The role will provide substantial opportunity for professional development within a world-leading cultural organisation.

Main Responsibilities 

Fundraising

· Raise income in line with agreed personal targets and KPI’s, contributing to the Philanthropy team’s current annual income target of £7m+.

· Cultivate a portfolio of major donor prospects in the UK and abroad at the six-figure gift level and support the Senior Principal Gifts Manager in the management of seven-figure gifts.

· Establish strong cross-Museum relationships to develop programme ideas in line with funders’ interests, and craft compelling cases for support.

· Work independently and in collaboration with the Senior Principal Gifts Manager, Head of Philanthropy  and Director of Development to plan and implement creative strategies to increase philanthropic gifts at the seven-figure gift level.

· Actively solicit funding personally through bespoke cultivation plans and utilise senior stakeholders effectively when needed.

· Prepare written briefings for senior management for meetings with prospective donors as well as follow up documentation and correspondence.

· Ensure all required gift reporting is delivered to the highest standards, supporting the development of robust evaluation processes with colleagues where needed.

· Promote best practice in fundraising across the NHM.

Finance and Administration

· Work closely with Finance and project delivery colleagues to monitor incoming payments and ensure that donations are spent in line with funding agreements.

· Ensure full and timely records of all activity are kept on the database in adherence to set policies and procedures.

General

· Stay informed of key developments within the sector by monitoring government and third-sector policies and relevant publications.

· Attend evening and occasional weekend meetings and events, as required within the nature of the post.

· Assist with other duties that may be reasonably required.

Essential

· A demonstrable track-record in securing and managing gifts from high-networth-individuals, including research, crafting compelling proposals, and effective stewardship.

· Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with an ability to convey detailed information in a concise and engaging manner.

· Ability to establish productive relationships with a variety of funders, prospects and colleagues.

· Ability to work proactively and constructively with colleagues to develop high-quality project proposals.

· Ability to act as an ambassador for the Natural History Museum amongst a range of high-profile external contacts.

· Exceptional attention to detail and organisational skills.

· Ability to prioritise and meet regular deadlines whilst working under pressure.

Desirable

· Direct fundraising experience in the cultural/environmental sector with High-Net-Worth Individuals. 

· Experience of working with senior stakeholders (Trustees, Directors and Senior Leadership teams).

· Experience working on capital or campaign fundraising.

StreetVet is looking to recruit a dynamic, ambitious and confident Fundraising Manager to work with the Head of Marketing to develop and implement the fundraising strategy for StreetVet to achieve a revenue target for FY24/25 of £1.15 million, building a sustainable revenue stream for the long-term with a minimum 5% Yr on Yr growth.

Main Purpose of the Role

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Fundraising Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will be a core member of the Central Team, working closely with the Marketing Team to develop and deliver the income stream for the charity with fundraising strategies that support StreetVet’s mission. This role will have budgetary responsibility and will involve building a donor database, donor and fundraiser stewardship, organising fundraising events, and securing grants and sponsorships.

The role will report to the Head of Marketing and will be responsible for driving forward all aspects of fundraising, including building corporate partnerships, individual giving, major donors, trusts and foundations, legacies and community.

The StreetVet Central Team is a small but agile team of just eleven employees, working alongside its legion of veterinary volunteers, so we expect the successful candidate to be a self-starter with a “can do” attitude, lots of energy and drive and a want to make a big difference.

Responsibilities:

Fundraising Management and Development

• Work with the Head of Marketing to develop and implement a balanced and realistic fundraising strategy, which builds on StreetVet’s strengths and maximises income for the charity.

• Deliver an integrated fundraising programme, which includes corporate partnerships, individual giving, major donors, trusts and foundations, legacies, community and events.

• Ensure all fundraising activity is compliant with GDPR and relevant fundraising regulation and that all data is accurate and maintained efficiently.

• Work with colleagues across StreetVet to proactively identify fundraising opportunities in line with our ethical fundraising policy and procedures, prioritising relationships where our values are aligned and we can achieve the biggest positive net gain for the human/animal bond and animal welfare.

• To maintain and develop the donor CRM platform including building supporter journeys to enhance donor experiences and maximise income for the charity.

• Work with the Head of Marketing to ensure that all opportunities to promote StreetVet and develop our fundraising and supporter engagement experiences are explored and maximised.

• Manage all aspects of finance and reporting relating to fundraising, including annual budgets, monthly reporting and re-forecasting. Provide monthly reports and updates on all fundraising activities and income streams

• Work with the Head of Marketing, internal colleagues and external stakeholders to create impactful storytelling and supporter engagement opportunities to maximise revenue streams.

Role Outline

The Head of Fundraising will be instrumental in the instigation, implementation and completion of the Trust’s long term funding strategy. As Trust and Corporate Fundraising Manager, you will support the development and delivery of the fundraising plan, proactively researching and pursuing new income opportunities, with targets for fundraising applications to trusts & foundations, military charities, and corporate foundations. You will develop strategic and collaborative relationships with funders to maximise income and ensure excellent supporter care. You will write and submit compelling, evidence-based funding applications, targeted to the priorities and criteria of the funder. You will also provide excellent stewardship of all funders, building on the existing stewardship framework.

To be considered for this role, you will need:

• A strong track record of achieving fundraising targets, with demonstrable experience in grant fundraising, charitable foundations, corporate foundations, lottery or statutory sources.
• Excellent research and prospecting skills to create a pipeline of relevant opportunities.
• Proven ability to tailor and personalise applications and presentations that reflect the individual priorities of the funders whilst accurately and clearly describing our work and impact.
• Demonstrable stewardship experience, with the ability to manage and prioritise a portfolio of supporters working to deadlines and agreed targets.

This role will manage and assess funding requests made by clubs who are members of the National League and their linked charities. It will also help to support and develop organisations who are new to community delivery. A knowledge of charity governance would also be an advantage.

You will need to have a strong understanding of funding systems and how grant support can enable recipients to make the biggest impact on their communities. You’ll also need to understand the landscape of community activity within football, who the stakeholders are and help to sustain partnerships across the network. Work will include the management of applications to the Premier League’s flagship education programme PL Primary Stars.

Being responsible for a variety of projects you will need to understand and respond to the different needs of our club community organisations (CCOs) by providing advice and feedback and be willing to have challenging but constructive conversations.  You will give pre-application support, assess and report on new applications manage current grants, liaise with grant recipients, undertake project visits, identify and manage risk, while supporting CCOs to deliver their projects and measure their impact.

We offer hybrid working with a minimum of one day per week at our London Head Office 
(close to Liverpool Street, Moorgate and Old Street stations).

Our charity
The Sick Children’s Trust is the charity that provides a welcoming ‘Home from Home’ 
where families with a sick child in hospital can stay. But we’re more than bricks and mortar, 
our friendly, caring staff are there to support families when they really need it. 
Hospital can be a lonely and scary place for anyone, but especially a child. Providing 
around 3,500 families a year with somewhere to stay together just minutes from the 
hospital means that they can be by their sick child’s side and have one less thing to worry 
about.

The role 
This is a wide-ranging community fundraising role. Activities include supporting family 
fundraising and third-party events in the south such as The Royal Parks Half Marathon and 
The Brighton Marathon. You will be required to forge, develop and grow new and existing 
fundraising opportunities and relationships with local businesses, community organisations 
and schools.
Key to this, is the provision of a sensitive and effective supporter journey for new and 
existing supporters.
Also, you will work collaboratively with the fundraising department and the 
communications and marketing team to ensure effective integration of campaigns and 
activities.
You will actively cultivate and recruit new and existing supporters and volunteers to 
participate in a range of third-party events and support the organisation. 
You will lead on Supermarket charitable schemes, including research, support with copy 
and applications to reach targets set for this area of income.
 
About you 
Ideally you have successful community fundraising experience including provision of a good 
supporter journey.
You will have strong interpersonal and communication skills. You will equally be as 
comfortable supporting families who stay with us who want to fundraise, as you are 
presenting to a room full of students, or potential volunteers.
You have good organisational skills and are comfortable working to objectives and targets. 
You are able to work with a level of autonomy and innovation to develop your fundraising 
portfolio and to increase our profile particularly in the areas close to our houses.
Ultimately this is a great role for anyone who loves community fundraising and 
understands that no two days are the same.
An enhanced DBS check for this role is required.
