Independent Age – Director of Engagement

Salary: £83,423 - increasing to £85,733 after six months and £88,017 after 12 months.

Contract: Permanent, full time hours.

Independent Age, the national charity focused on improving the lives of older people facing financial hardship, is seeking a mission-driven fundraiser to provide strategic leadership and management of their Engagement Directorate.

Independent Age believes that no older person should face financial hardship. That’s why, by 2027, our goal is to have improved the lives of one million older people. Our impact across policy, campaigning, information and advice, grant-making and partnerships improves lives by increasing the financial well-being of older people in financial hardship, enabling greater choice and independence in wider areas of life. There has never been a greater need for the charity’s work; more than two million older people are already in poverty, and millions more live their lives on the brink with precarious finances.

The role of Director of Engagement will develop and execute the fundraising strategy, growing the charity’s philanthropic (trusts and foundations, corporates and major donors) and public fundraising activities, and develop effective partnerships.  The role will also grow multi-purpose partnerships, and lead on all aspects of marketing, developing and expanding the Independent Age brand proposition, targeting key audiences and beneficiaries. The position reports to the Chief Executive and as part of the Senior Leadership Team, will play a key role in developing and executing an overall strategy to ensure delivery of the charity’s mission efficiently and effectively, with a strong focus upon increasing impact and reach.

You will need to have significant experience of developing effective fundraising strategies with a proven track record of high-value fundraising, including individual giving and securing donations from major trusts, foundations, high-net-worth individuals and businesses. You will also have experience of identifying, winning and implementing impactful corporate partnerships beyond fundraising, as well as of leading and motivating brand and marketing, and partnerships and philanthropy teams. Demonstrable experience of building and developing brands will be key, as well as experience of operating effectively at a senior level, ideally as part of a Senior Leadership Team. Finally, you must have a passion for, and affinity with, the charity’s cause.

Job Overview: MEWSo is seeking a dynamic and experienced Fundraising Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing the fundraising strategy and generate over £200,000 annual income for the organisation. The ideal candidate will have a good background in fundraising, excellent communication skills, and a passion for our mission.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

· Working with the Executive Director, ensure an effective fundraising strategy consistent with MEWSo’s business plan for sustaining the Advice Department and project activities in Islington, Westminster and pan-London

· Research and identify potential donors and their priorities

· Write fundraising applications and budgets and/or tender documents

· Proactively seek funding opportunities and maintain a pipeline of different sources of funding, including one year and multi-year grants from trusts and foundations

· Engage the Chair and Board Members in pursuing fundraising opportunities.

· Assisting in the search for opportunities for tendering, contracts and grant applications to funders and donors

· Maintain accurate and up-to-date information on all submissions, grant-funded projects and donors

· Produce regular fundraising activity reports to track and monitor progress

· Be the first point of contact for trustees, staff and partners for all fundraising queries

· Attend fundraising events when needed

Skills/experience:

Essential:

1. Excellent understanding of the funding landscape

2. Track record in building successful donor portfolio (trust and foundations)

5. Experience of liaising with statutory providers and voluntary organisations

 The individual in this position will be responsible for planning, developing, and executing a variety of events, from large-scale mass participation events such as the Midnight Walk to more intimate special events like galas and Pro-Am golf tournaments. The main objective is to inspire and engage supporters to raise funds and awareness for the hospice’s services across North Yorkshire.

To succeed in this role, the Events Fundraiser must demonstrate strong organizational skills, adaptability, and excellent communication capabilities. They will need to manage all aspects of event planning, including conducting risk assessments, managing budgets, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. In addition, the role requires close collaboration with the Community and Events Manager, other income generation teams, and various stakeholders such as participants, sponsors, and local communities to ensure the successful execution of events.

The position also involves post-event analysis to capture lessons learned, thereby improving future events. Moreover, innovation is highly valued, with an emphasis on developing new event concepts that align with the organization's strategic goals. The role also demands a strong focus on community outreach and supporter engagement, with the aim of deepening relationships and expanding the supporter base.

Key requirements for this role include experience in event planning and delivery, proficiency in marketing techniques, particularly in digital and social media, and a proven ability to manage budgets and meet fundraising targets. Purpose of Role

To support the Head of Fundraising and Head of Trusts to develop and deliver effective income generation and partner relationship management. Collaborating also with the wider WasteAid team to develop quality funding proposals and fundraising assets. To research, explore and initiate new fundraising approaches with potential new funders.

Income Generation

• Support the senior fundraising team to research and develop potential opportunities for maximising income generation
• Support the senior team to identify and secure new supporters/partners and ensure effective engagement with established supporters. This includes:

- Diverse Outreach

- Proposal Development

- Participation in pitch sessions / donor meetings

• Rolling stewardship and relationship management for a number of potential and current donors. Including coordinating staff fundraising /other donor activity and admin to support the partnership

Raising WasteAid’s Profile

• Promote the aims and objectives of WasteAid, increasing public awareness and support
• Ensure project donor partnership plans are in place and implemented in liaison with the project teams and WasteAid’s PR function

Marketing and Communication

Main purpose of the role

Working with the Founder / Director of Survivors Can Shine to effectively deliver our ‘I Shine, Speak Out – Ambassadors for Change’ project

Job description

 Key tasks and responsibilities

1. Management of the project plan, including monitoring and updating of budgets, and referring any cost implications to the Director as appropriate
2. Coordinating training and support for workshop leaders and volunteers to support the delivery of the I Shine, Speak Out project activities
3. Support the smooth delivery of project objectives and production, and maintenance of project management documentation; working closely with internal and external stakeholders and decision makers
4. Lead and coordinate project meetings with partners / young people
5. Lead and coordinate the annual Survivors Can Shine Community event.
6. Support the collection of information & evidence as part of project reporting requirements, including preparing drafts for completion and review
7. Use appropriate tools to monitor and evaluate the impact and success of the project
8. Supporting the writing of reports to funders
9. Identify risks and issues within the project and work with the project team to resolve or escalate as appropriate to the Director
10. Supporting the production of marketing materials
11. Support the Director with management of internal and external communication, ensuring plans are in place, maintained and acted on including the Survivors Can Shine website and social media channels
12. Provide administrative support including assisting in the management of external suppliers/subscriptions/invoices, updating policy documents and supporting other relevant tasks
13. Support our Designated Safeguarding Lead through coordination of DBS checks and maintaining accurate records

Essential

Skills & experience:

• Experience working with children & young people, including with a range of needs e.g. behaviour, S.E.N, academic attainment, trauma and/or confidence
• Experience with event planning/coordination and in particular community events.
• Experience working within fundraising.  
• Experience of working within the charity sector.
• Knowledge and application of good practice in a safeguarding context
• Strong interpersonal skills: teamworking and working collaboratively; able to interact with different audiences and all levels of people
• Ability to use own initiative and work with & without direct supervision. We are a small team so being a self-starter is crucial.
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Good attention to detail, with strong analytical skills
• Good project, event & time management skills; prioritising work and meeting tight deadlines 
• Advanced IT skills, including with Microsoft applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook)
• In possession of, or able to secure, an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check*

We are looking to appoint an experienced and collaborative fundraising manager to lead our small fundraising team at Ely Cathedral. This post plays a significant role in sustaining and developing the income the Cathedral needs, adhering to the highest ethical standards and in line with the law and good practice.

Duties include nurturing and managing existing relationships with supporters and donors and developing new income streams using a range of approaches, ensuring that these are integrated sensitively, with the mission and work of the Cathedral in mind.

The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in fundraising from a variety of sources in a small or medium-sized charity setting, experience of managing others, and have experience of raising funds for capital projects between £100,000 and £2million.

Experience of fundraising within a church setting or the heritage sector, possession of a fundraising qualification from a recognised body such as the Institute of Fundraising, and experience of leading a step-change in the income raised by a fundraising team are not essential but would be an advantage.

Areas of Responsibility

Planning and Logistics across Communications and Research: 

• Supporting event planning (e.g. managing venues, hospitality, invitations). 

• Working with our Research team to support fieldwork planning and travel.

• Working closely with our Head of Communications to develop and plan social media posts and email campaigns around our work.

• Planning and managing event logistics from round-tables with senior politicians to our annual conference IncludEd.

• Scheduling of meetings for internal team members, important external stakeholders including journalists, research participants (like our headteachers, parents, young people) and policymakers.

Tracking Press, Research and Data: 

• Ensuring we are aware of upcoming publications and events relevant to our team or community.

Fundraising Events and Stakeholder Management:

We are looking for a Community engagement officer to join our team, supporting the delivery of our Public Health engagement partnership contract. This pivotal role will enable us to bridge health inequalities and ensure everyone has the opportunity to access vital public health services.
Your focus in this role will be increasing our reach and generating accessible, insightful public health resources for those with sight loss and/or complex care needs.

Responsibilities:

- Assist service managers in organizing activities to meet contractual targets.
- Conduct market research, identify health inequalities, and maximise engagement opportunities based on findings.

The ideal candidate:

- Minimum of 5 GCSE’s or equivalent
- Strong communication skills.
- Positive and outgoing attitude with a confident approach to building and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Effective project management skills, and the ability to manage own workload, working to deadlines as required.
- Experience in the organizing of promotional events, including attendance and facilitation their success
- Understanding of Market research and analysis of findings.
