Pembroke House is a centre for social action and residential community in Walworth, south-east London. 

We were founded in 1885, by students from Pembroke College, Cambridge, as one of the first settlement houses. Shocked by growing poverty and inequality, the pioneers of the settlement movement sought a new approach: taking up residence to live, work and solve problems alongside local communities. 

For over 130 years, we’ve been working to bridge traditional divides and unite people – whatever their background or walk of life – in building a better Walworth. Our income comes from grants, contracts, donations, investments and trading (room hire and cafe).

About this role

The Bookkeeper is a new role at Pembroke House. You will work closely with the Director of Finance to form a team of two managing the financial activities of the charity (turnover approx £1 million). You will need good communication skills to cater to the differing needs of each team, have excellent attention to detail to ensure that high-quality financial information is produced and be firm with others in applying the charity’s financial regulations.

Main Duties

PURCHASE LEDGER

• Maintain the Purchase Ledger on online accounting software (Sage 50).

SALES LEDGER

• Maintain the Sales Ledger on online accounting software.

• Prepare and issue sales invoices. 

• Handle customer account enquiries.

• Calculate recharges within the charity, for example photocopier usage and record these on accounting software.

BANK AND CASH

• Monthly reconciliation of all bank accounts, resolving any discrepancies.

• Process, manage and bank income via cheques and cash.

• Monthly reconciliation of all petty cash tins and, with the Cafe Manager, cafe till sales.

• Reconcile monthly company cards statements, flagging to and resolving with the card holder when there are discrepancies.

FUNDERS AND DONORS

• Using information provided by others, make Gift Aid claims annually on behalf of the charity.

• Generate financial reports and invoices from online accounting software for funding claims to trusts and foundations.

OTHER FINANCE TASKS

• Assist budget holders to understand and resolve queries relating to income and expenditure transactions.

• Monitor and act on emails received to the charity’s finance email address.

• Induct new staff and volunteers in organisational financial systems and processes e.g. petty cash, expenses claims.

We are seeking an individual to undertake the role of Head of Major Gifts. The position requires you to grow and where possible exceed the Funds net income over the next five years. You will possess strong leadership skills, be responsible for setting and delivering on annual targets, leading and managing the Major Gifts teams. The Head of Operations and Development will work as part of the Senior Management Team, which includes the Director and the Head of Policy & Advocacy, to ensure ENS's continued success and growth.  The role demands a high level of aptitude, leadership, flexibility, initiative, and commitment.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in leading and developing ENS's strategic and operational planning, monitoring implementation, financial management, fundraising, and organisational development. We are currently recruiting a Programme Assistant and Executive Assistant to manage a portfolio of grants and contribute to the implementation of the IAWP strategy. In addition, this Programme Assistant and Executive Assistant will support London-based Trustees by managing their schedules, arranging travel, and processing discretionary grants. The role of the Programme Assistant and Executive Assistant is essential in maintaining the seamless operations and success of our foundation.

Executive Assistant to London based Trustees (approximately 30%)

• Processing discretionary grants for Trustees by liaising with the organisations identified to receive grants, collecting necessary documentation, and coordinating with Oak grant management team
• Assisting the Trustees with external contacts, including prioritising correspondence and phone inquiries, drafting responses as necessary, and managing workflow emerging from these contacts
• Scheduling and coordinating Trustee appointments, meetings, and travel itineraries, including the preparation of background materials, arranging meetings and events, and ensuring appropriate follow-up of decisions and agreements
• Supporting Trustees in various boards and committees, including all aspects of preparation and follow-up

Support to the Issues Affecting Women Programme team (approximately 70%)

• Grant-making: Master grant-making tools, especially the grant management system (i.e. database) to facilitate team management of the grant-making process. Develop a deep understanding of the grant portfolio to support execution of the overall strategy.
• Communications: Work with the Communications Department to prepare and pull together material for presentations, briefings, and background material as required. Work with the team and director to manage a communications plan for the programme. This may include preparing and coordinating material and presentations for board meetings, events, meetings, and team calls. It may also include drafting and preparing communication updates, including programme newsletters.
• Scheduling: Manage the Director’s and team’s schedule and movements, including coordinating all activities, arranging meetings, and coordinating travel including applying for visas, and booking planes/trains/accommodation/developing an itinerary. Help track and support meeting deadlines.
• Team calendar: Maintain overall team calendar for planning purposes.
• Administration: Provide administrative support to the team (and office when requested): organise and maintain files, submit expenses, and log documents with response deadlines. Other administrative tasks as assigned.
• Meetings: Attend various meetings with internal and external parties; take notes and follow up on action points as required.
• Routine correspondence: Draft routine correspondence, including various programme reports and other briefings.
• Contracts and payments: Provide support in drafting contracts and payments, and liaise with third party providers on various issues. Maintain a roster of consultants and keep a record of staff satisfaction with work completed.
• Events planning: Coordinate team training activities and meetings including: organising invitations to participants and room set up (table, chairs, flipcharts, video equipment); providing video call information; ensuring presentations are in the right format; and organising lunches, booking restaurants, pick-ups, and other logistics. Provide other back-office support as needed.
• Recruitment: When recruitments take place, follow-up with candidates at all stages of the process in liaison with the HR team.

Other support tasks including:

• Performing reception duties by meeting and greeting visitors for the Trustees and the IAWP programme
• Advising staff visiting from other offices about arrangements for visiting London (e.g., hotels, restaurants, booking meeting rooms) for Trustees and IAWP related visits
• Setting up the office for newcomers in IAWP team: arranging desks, IT devices, and stationary etc

About the role: 

The successful applicant will work alongside our Trustees, our CEO and our existing Head of Fundraising and Communications in a jobshare to meet challenging fundraising targets. You will be joining us at an exciting time of development, as we open at our third site in Islington, welcome new members of staff to our team and begin work on a new strategy for 2025-2028. Key Responsibilities:

Fundraising Strategy Development

• Assist in creating, implementing, and refining a comprehensive fundraising plan.
• Regularly contribute to the development of the organisational fundraising strategy, with a specific focus on individual donors and new fundraising opportunities.
• Stay current with fundraising opportunities and best practices, recommending changes in WECare's funding strategies to ensure continuous improvement and growth.
• Donor Engagement and Relationship Management
• Develop and maintain relationships with individual donors, corporate partners, and potential supporters.
• Support donor stewardship initiatives for all types of supporters, including individuals, corporate, major, and legacy donations, ensuring ongoing engagement, retention, and growth.

Digital Fundraising

Trusts and foundations

• Support the Head of Fundraising with research and identification of grant opportunities relevant to WECare.
• Collaborate in preparing and submitting grant applications to trusts and foundations, including checking monitoring data, proofreading reports, and ensuring timely submission.
• Work with the team to implement corporate fundraising policies, ensuring that WECare can respond appropriately to fundraising approaches by companies.

Community Fundraising and Event Planning

• Collaborate with the Head of Fundraising and the team to create and implement a comprehensive Community Fundraising Strategy.
• Plan, organise, and execute a diverse range of fundraising events, including supporter dinners, challenge events like the Great North Run, charity walks, auctions, and community fairs.
• Expand local support networks in both Sri Lanka and the UK.
• Organise occasional engagement events for supporters, further strengthening relationships and encouraging continued financial support.
• Coordinate with volunteers and staff to ensure seamless event execution and the achievement of fundraising targets.
• Manage and steward Challenge event (Great North Run) fundraisers through the WhatsApp group chat, fostering a supportive and motivated network.

Data Management and Reporting

• Maintain accurate records of all fundraising activities, monitor income, and donor information on the charity database.
• Assist in developing and managing the new CRM system, including setting up and integrating a comprehensive database CRM platform and Mailchimp for effective donor communication and management.
• Ensure donor data is meticulously maintained, supporting the use of CRM tools to manage donor relationships effectively, including ensuring compliance with data protection regulations.
• Contribute to the refinement and thorough documentation of new digital processes such as the Sponsor a Dog (SPAD) programme, ensuring clear guidelines and streamlined operations across all initiatives.

About RBH Charity:

Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals Charity is dedicated to improving the lives of people with serious heart and lung disease. Each year we grant around £6m to fund projects at our partner hospitals, including current initiatives such as:

• Equipping Royal Brompton Hospital with a high specification genetic sequencer to screen and plan treatment for patients and their families
• Creating a new consultant fellowship in imaging related to structural heart disease
• Providing core funding for the rb&hArts programme combining improvements to the hospital environment with therapeutic activities such as Singing for Breathing
• Supporting three fellowships annually to support allied health professionals in pursuing research projects
• Funding the Road to Recovery programme to provide mental health support for patients with long Covid
• Committing £100,000 to a Patients’ Fund each year, to support around 40 micro-projects from palliative care ‘comfort boxes’ to better seating and new televisions on wards

Our funding comes from the fundraising efforts of thousands of supporters as well as income generated by our investments in property and equity markets.

We have a small, committed and skilled team (29 in 2024/25), with expertise across fundraising, marketing, HR, property management, grant-making and financial management.

We are looking for an inspiring storyteller, digital innovator and cross-organisation relationship builder. This role forms part of an award winning, collaborative Internal Communications and Engagement team that is focused on creating an inspiring workplace through communications with a dotted line into our Volunteering team.

This role is focused on shaping the direction of travel for our amazing volunteering community and the managers that support them. It will be built on strong foundations, but it will involve some initial discovery off the back of our recent engagement survey to build communications for the future that have the greatest impact for our volunteers.

It’s a varied role – from storytelling and innovation through to channel management and events. Building strong, trusted relationships across the organisation is an essential skill to help build a connection to cause. It will make sure volunteers are supported as they gift their time, have what they need to experience the impact of their work and really getting to understand the organisation and the most effective ways to communicate. Stimulating conversations, championing colleague voice and creating a culture of open and transparent communication are all part of this role.

About you

You’ll be a real team player with a curiosity to understand our Society, how our volunteers communicate and like to be communicated with. You’ll be driven and keen to understand the impact of the communications that you are sharing and a key enabler of fostering inspiring storytelling across our volunteering community, while sharing the stories of our volunteers with staff too.

You’ll be someone whose approach is rooted in thinking through ‘how can we iterate this to make it better?’, as well as helping to shape a culture of belonging and strive to make our communications as inclusive as they can be.

You’ll be excited by the opportunity of exploring new ways to communicate and engage and sit within a wider Internal Communications and Engagement team who know the power of great communications to effect impactful outcomes for those living with dementia.

The role:

This role is perfect for anybody with the requisite skills who is looking for a career within fundraising or the creative industry. Our Corporate Partnerships Officer will be responsible for assisting the Corporate Partnerships Manager in raising money through corporate contacts to meet financial targets. The successful candidate will act as the first point of contact for all corporate enquiries and offer administrative support through record-keeping on the database, managing event bookings, liaising cross-organisationally to secure spaces for events, and working with our in-house caterers, Swan Restaurant and Bar. The Corporate Partnerships Officer will also take a lead role on the creation of marketing assets, monthly corporate newsletters, website updates and the redevelopment or refreshing of our offers (e.g. private box packages) when required.

The skills:

We are looking for a highly-organised and efficient individual with excellent diary management skills and the ability to communicate confidently across all levels of seniority, both internally and externally. The successful candidate will be confident in meeting corporate clients, handling logistics for event bookings and will ideally have experience of using a CRM, such as Tessitura.

Our candidate should also be confident in identifying new business prospects and engaging potential clients either in-person, via email or over the phone. MS Office proficiency is required, as are excellent communication skills across all mediums, and an ability to work as part of a team or independently, using your initiative.

The Shakespeare Globe Trust is a registered charity (No. 266916). Shakespeare’s Globe receives no annual subsidy from the Arts Council and, therefore, raises a critically important percentage of funds from the public each year. The Development Team focuses on nurturing relationships with Individuals, Trusts and Foundations and Corporates to support us and raise funds across three income streams: revenue, commercial, and capital.
