This IT Support and Logistics Associate role combines elements of an IT Support Specialist and a Logistics Coordinator, focusing on deploying and maintaining Wi-Fi networks for humanitarian projects globally while managing equipment shipments and partner support.

Jangala’s projects have currently delivered quality Wi-Fi to 40,703 people and impacted a population of 98,396 worldwide.

Location: We are only be able to accept candidates that have the right to work in the UK, and are within a reasonable commuting distance to Walthamstow, London

Hours: 35 hours per week. Our usual working time is 09:30 - 17:30 Mondays-Fridays.

Salary: £29,000-£34,000 (based on experience), including bonus of up to 7.5%

Flexibility 

Our office is located in Walthamstow. Due to the role’s responsibilities, this role will need to be on-site 4 days a week. A fifth day can be worked either remotely or on-site. 

What’s this role’s purpose?

This role is crucial in implementing our Wi-Fi technology for a diverse set of partners in remote areas, providing technical and logistics support to ensure smooth operations. The position directly contributes to Jangala's mission of expanding internet access in underserved communities worldwide.

Interview process

3 stages, including 2 interviews and a task round. Interviews will last approximately 45 minutes and the task round is between 1-2 hours.

About the role

The IT Support and Logistics Associate facilitates the deployment of Jangala's Big Box and Get Box systems globally, supports equipment logistics, and provides crucial support to our projects team. This role is crucial in helping partners get - and stay -  connected in remote contexts worldwide

Key Responsibilities

• Technical Support (60%)

  • Provide first and second-line technical and troubleshooting support for our partners in challenging environments. 

  • Reviewing and analysing complex technical information to define and solve technical problems and support project partners around the world to build Wi-Fi networks. 

  • Contribute to the product design and development process using experiences from troubleshooting and deployment.

  • Capacity Building: train partners, develop documentation, and improve service offerings. 

• Logistics Support (30%)

  • Prepare and dispatch packages from London workshop

  • Liaise with customs organisations globally, ensuring compliance with import regulations.

  • Handle equipment stock management and manage shipping processes 

• Other (10%)

  • Conduct site surveys and determine equipment needs.

About the role

The Head of Policy and Humanitarian Affairs manages a small, dynamic team based in London, who work with colleagues across the delegation and around the world to support its main objectives: (i) to contribute towards enabling ICRC action to protect and assist people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence; (ii) to influence the debate and secure improved decision-making on issues relevant to conflict, humanitarian action and international humanitarian law.

Reporting to, and working as adviser to, the ICRC Head (and Deputy Head) of Delegation, the Head of Policy and Humanitarian Affairs develops and oversees the implementation of the delegation’s policy and humanitarian diplomacy strategy in the UK, ensuring it is in line with the ICRC’s overall strategy. They are a member of ICRC’s global network of policy and humanitarian advisors, interacting regularly with the Policy and Humanitarian Diplomacy Divisions/Units at headquarters as well as with delegations around the world, supporting ICRC’s humanitarian diplomacy and policy dialogue. This is a role which requires working collaboratively and at pace on a wide range of issues relevant to the mandate of the ICRC and its global operations.

The Head of Policy and Humanitarian Affairs works closely with the British Red Cross ensuring optimal impact of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement’s policy and humanitarian diplomacy objectives.

This is an outward facing job, representing the ICRC at public events, with UK Government, Parliament and the wider humanitarian sector.

Person specification (qualifications, skills & experience required)

Essential

• Master’s degree in a relevant subject;
• Strong experience (indicative 10+ years) in humanitarian policy advocacy, diplomacy, conflict analysis and/or a relevant policy position;
• Strong understanding of the UK political and policy environment, with a solid grounding in security, defence and humanitarian issues.
• Knowledge and experience of working in – or with - UK Government, as well as humanitarian/development organizations and think tanks;
• Excellent written and spoken English. French or other second language a plus;
• Proven experience in networking and influencing;
• People management and leadership experience;
• Confirmed analytical, negotiation and presentation skills.

Desirable

• A solid understanding of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement;

Further Details

This post is part of a job share and will be offered as part-time (21 hours/ 3 days per week) resident appointment based in our London office. Your job-share partner also works 3 days per week, with one crossover day. The appointment will be offered on an open-ended contract from the beginning of October 2024 (or as soon as a start date is feasible).

The Head of Policy post receives a salary at C2 ICRC London grade and it will be pro-rata for this 3 day part time role (60% FTE); the salary scale below is indicative of the full time equivalent (100%)

About this exciting opportunity
Working as part of a multi-agency team, you will provide person-centred support to a caseload of service users who will either be serving community sentences or being released from prison. You will undertake assessment and action planning with individual service users, create a safe and trusting environment, using trauma-informed practice to successfully facilitate a supportive and constructive relationship with service users, plus deliver a range of interventions to service users which contribute towards achievement of prescribed outcomes.

We will also count on you to develop and maintain positive working relationships with external agencies, including probation, prisons, partners, and others who will assist in achieving prescribed outcomes for service users, ensuring you work towards contractual targets and outcomes within agreed timescales.  Using agreed CRM databases and recording all activity relating to caseload and providing updates and reports are also key duties. 

What we are looking for
•  Experience working with partner agencies either as part of a multi-agency team working towards common objectives or negotiating to establish links to further the aims of a project
•  L3 in Advice and Guidance or equivalent
•  The ability to assess clients’ needs and provide tailored, client-led support through action planning and interventions involving advice, guidance, advocacy, and coaching
•  An ability to work sensitively with clients applying trauma-informed strategies
•  Impressive IT, relationship-building and communication skills, both verbal and written.

About Reprieve

Reprieve works with the most disenfranchised people in society. Our aim is simple: to consign the death penalty and abuses carried out in the name of “counter-terrorism” or “national security” to history, drawing public and political attention to these past harms with a view to preventing them from occurring again.

In our view, you can best judge a society by how it treats prisoners, criminal defendants, and the far-flung targets of an ever-changing counter-terror policy. Reprieve’s staff is made up of courageous and committed human rights defenders. Founded in 1999, we provide free legal and investigative support to people facing the death penalty and those victimised by states’ abusive counter-terror policies – rendition, torture, arbitrary detention and extrajudicial killing.

We fight our clients’ cases in courts around the world; investigate their mistreatment; and advocate on their behalf, encouraging public and political debate of human rights issues.

Reprieve’s main office is in Whitechapel, London, UK. Reprieve also supports full-time Fellows, who work as lawyers, investigators and campaigners in the countries in which we work. We work closely with a number of partner organisations in jurisdictions all over the world, who provide access to clients, expertise, knowledge and guidance on specific issues or regions. We work in cooperation with relevant government officials, individual lawyers and human rights defenders, as well as individual, corporate and foundation funders to further the cause of our shared goals.

About the Role

The Head of US Death Penalty Projects is responsible for overseeing Reprieve’s work against the death penalty in the United States of America.

 Background to Reprieve’s work against the death penalty in the US

 Reprieve has worked against the death penalty since our founding. In recent years we have built a particular specialism in issues relating to lethal injection, the most popular execution method in the US. Lethal injection has been touted as a more humane than other methods – a modern, clean, clinical way to execute. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Lethal injection executions go wrong more often than any other execution method, often resulting in prolonged and torturous executions, commonly known as “botched” executions. Through our work we aim to dispel the myth of the humane execution, working with allies across medicine, business and other sectors to end the misuse of medicines and medical technology in executions.

The existing portfolio of work includes litigation, investigation and analysis, corporate engagement, a wide range of public and private advocacy, and developing and maintaining world-leading expertise on execution methods, particularly the jurisprudence and science relevant to lethal injection.

About You

You will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies in which each of Reprieve’s methodologies—investigation, litigation, casework political and public engagement, support for and (where possible and appropriate) advocacy with affected communities—connect with one another to achieve positive outcomes in the death penalty landscape and address structural rights violations.

Location, contract and salary

The role is a full-time, permanent position with a salary of £59,226 per annum less any required deductions for tax and national insurance. Reprieve works across a number of jurisdictions; as such this is a role that may require work outside of core hours from time to time. Reprieve operates a hybrid working model and we require staff to work a minimum of 40% from the London office and the rest of the week from home.
