Role Overview

As the Deputy Service Manager, you will ensure the highest standard of care and safety for residents, adhering to safeguarding guidelines and quality regulations. The role includes mentoring and supporting staff teams to consistently meet and exceed these standards and overseeing that teams work within the Key Lines of Enquiry (KLOEs) framework.

Responsibilities include (but not limited to)

• Team Leadership: Lead, coach, and organise the team, including rota management, to ensure optimal staffing.
• Staff Development: Conduct appraisals, supervisions, and inductions for Senior Support Workers and Support Workers.
• Training Management: Ensure all staff training is up to date, with demonstrated competency.
• Implementation Support: Assist in implementing management decisions, including peer support as required.
• Communication: Foster open communication and constructive feedback.
• Medication Administration: Administer prescribed medications as required.

About you

Scope

The RHN is a leading national centre of excellence, providing adult person-centred services that span the entire care pathway from post-acute rehabilitation services to end of life care, for people with complex Neuro-disability and their families, underpinned by a strong research and education programme.

The Fundraising Department is a small and friendly team, responsible for raising funds for a variety of vital therapies and services for the patients and residents. Furthermore, through a variety of income streams, the team helps to fund capital projects, such as ward refurbishments and new facilities.

The post-holder will become a key part in the development and growth of the charity, maximising financial income and raising awareness of the RHN. You will maximise existing relationships and opportunities through excellent supporter stewardship and will identify new fundraising opportunities. This role will involve occasional weekend and evening work, so a flexible approach is required.

Key Responsibilities

• Work together with the Community Fundraising Manager to organise the full calendar of fundraising events, including sporting/challenge, bespoke, special and community events, working towards a £230,000 target and £3.1m team target.
• Recruit participants for a range of existing sporting and challenge events whilst identifying new activities. Overseeing the marketing and stewardship of each.
• Act as first point of contact to community and challenge supporters, providing a first-class standard of supporter care and stewardship to maximise fundraising and supporter experience.
• Support in the delivery of a small portfolio community fundraising events including (but not limited to) the Christmas Fair, Bridge events and school fun runs
• Support volunteers organising their own events in addition to third party fundraising events.

Job Purpose

We are seeking a creative and driven philanthropy manager to join our team on a permanent basis. Working alongside members of the wider team, you will help deliver the best possible experience to some of the charity’s most committed donors through a mixture of bespoke events, personalised communications, and recognition opportunities across our hospital sites.

Specifically, this role will lead the team’s efforts in working with our mid-level donors, developing our first ever patrons’ programme and providing them with a gold-standard experience that ensures continued support of the Royal Free Charity.

Responsibilities

Leading the Royal Free Charity’s patrons’ programme

· Lead all aspects of the Royal Free Charity’s patrons’ programme, from recruitment through to stewardship and renewal efforts.

· Work with senior stakeholders to develop and launch a new strategy for the programme, illustrating the potential overlap between patronage and other areas of support for the charity, as well as opportunities to uplift levels of support or additional gifts.

· Manage the day-to-day delivery of the patrons’ programme including coordinating the renewals process and responding to enquiries.

· Effectively promote the programme across a range of audiences, working with colleagues to identify and recruit prospects and deliver retention activity to uplift individuals to patronage and beyond.

· Develop and deliver the engagement programme for patrons, collaborating with colleagues on stewardship and cultivation plans including a programme of communications and touchpoints, including events.

· Draft engaging materials, such as letters, invitations, and thank you communications, to ensure patrons feel valued and have a positive donor experience.

· Support colleagues who manage relationships with patrons by ensuring key materials are shared, and monitoring when annual renewals are due.

· Manage updates to patron recognition across our hospital sites, ensuring names are listed in accordance with donor wishes, and are added or removed at the appropriate time. 

Leading the Royal Free Charity’s mid-level programme

· Alongside the patrons’ programme, lead and deliver a mid-level giving retention and recruitment strategy, for donors giving between £1,000 and £10,000 to the charity each year, working with colleagues to understand potential opportunities for uplift in giving.

· Support the development and delivery of engaging events, and bespoke communications for mid-level donors.

· Ensure that mid-level donors have the best possible experience of giving to the charity, by engaging with colleagues on the development of appeals to this audience, stewarding those giving at this level, and attracting new supporters to grow the programme.

· Contribute to analysis and commentary on the performance of the programme.

· Work with the public fundraising team to thank mid-level donors to fundraising appeals, creating updates and reports, and providing an excellent supporter experience to maximise the opportunity for a longer-term relationship beyond specific appeals.

· Work closely with charity colleagues and external suppliers to ensure fundraising activities are delivered to agreed plans, budgets, and timelines.

· Support the fundraising activities of the wider philanthropy & campaigns team through identifying donors who may give major gifts or be interested in legacy giving.

Cross-team working and individual development

· Lead the team’s work in stewarding existing legacy pledgers.

· Build relationships across the charity and with Royal Free London staff to enhance own work, raise the visibility of fundraising, and identify opportunities for collaboration.

· Represent the philanthropy & campaigns team, where appropriate, on cross-charity projects.

· Take time for personal development, contributing learning and ideas to the wider team.

Fundraising department

Our dynamic fundraising department generated £4.5 million through donations in 2023/2024, and we are now preparing for an ambitious multi-million-pound campaign in support of a ground-breaking cancer centre on the Royal Free Hospital site.

Responsible for attracting and retaining donors, and delivering an outstanding supporter experience, the fundraising department comprises two teams which work closely together to achieve our shared objectives:

They lead major appeal activity for the charity, currently focused on the acquisition of a new surgical robot, our forthcoming cancer campaign, our essential volunteering, complementary therapy and support services, the charity’s first patron programme, and special events to support these activities.

· Our Public Fundraising team harnesses the support and energy of individuals and groups, helping them to give back in the way that works for them. As the Trusts & Foundations Manager you will be responsible for generating income from grant making trusts and foundations.

You will take the lead on seeking out new prospects and nurturing existing relationships to significantly grow income. • Proactively identify and research new and pipeline trust, lottery and statutory fundraising opportunities and progress them to application stage.

About You:

This role is for you if you are an experienced trusts and foundations fundraiser, with good knowledge of the sector. You'll have demonstrable experience of securing five and six figure grants to achieve annual income targets, both through stewarding existing supporters and through researching and cultivating a pipeline of new opportunities.

You will also be skilled in understanding and translating complex information and turning it in to compelling written proposals, for grants, corporate partnerships and major donors.

We do require someone who is proactive, hardworking and results-orientated.

Essential role requirements include:

• Experience of trusts and foundation fundraising and able to demonstrate continual growth in expertise and results in this area.
• Good understanding of the trusts and foundations fundraising environment and associated processes and different types of grant making bodies.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write concise and inspiring funding applications and to make presentations.

Due to project expansion Aquarius Young People’s Substance misuse team are recruiting for several Complex Needs Substance Misuse Practitioners across the city.

Aquarius has been providing structured and targeted interventions to young people engaging in, at risk of substance misuse or affected by parental substance misuse for many years.

The post holder will work on an outreach basis, including visiting schools & colleges, the Children and Families service, the YOT as well as other local community agencies.

The role will involve supporting young people away from engaging in substance misuse or with an understanding of parental substance misuse.

You will provide young people with skills and coping strategies to manage their recovery journey, delivering 1-1 and some group work interventions, targeted outreach to engage 'hard-to-reach' young people and delivery of service talks and substance misuse presentations to enhance external professional workforce development with our partner agencies.

Working hours will be Monday - Friday, 37 hours per week, most work will occur during the day, however as a young people’s service we may occasionally ask you to support out of hours sessional work.
