We are looking for a part time Information & Advocacy Community Support Worker in Scotland.  You will be home based living in the North of Scotland.

You will ensure that service users (children and adults) and their families, receive high quality support, from the point of diagnosis and throughout their journey, and will assist them to access funding, equipment and care and support that they are entitled to. You will join a team that makes a real difference to the lives of the people living with muscle-wasting conditions, and their families, in Scotland. The role will be primarily home based, but there will also be a requirement to attend outpatient clinics within the region, attend home visits where appropriate and to support responding to queries through the helpline and information inbox. Some travel will be required to attend meetings and events outside of Scotland. You will work with both statutory and voluntary organisations, clinicians, and health and social care professionals to ensure that people living with muscle wasting conditions get the care and support they need to live well and independently.

Muscular Dystrophy UK (MDUK) is the charity for the 110,000 people living with muscle-wasting conditions in the UK.  We bring together people affected by more than 60 rare and very rare progressive muscle-weakening and wasting conditions.  We provide vital information, advice, resources and support for people with these conditions, their families and the professionals who work with them. Our care, information and advocacy service coordinate our support for families, providing advice and practical support to enable individuals to access the services, benefits and equipment they are entitled to. Accessing appropriate support at university will shape a student's experience and it is important that support is available for those who need it. We are pleased to be supporting a prestigious London University in their search for a temporary, full time (35 hours per week) Disability Advisor. The role is running until the 10 th of January 2025 and offers a hybrid working model, with 3 days per week based on-site and the remainder remote.

Key Responsibilities for this role include:

• Managing a large caseload, providing coordinated practical support and advice, assisting students with complex needs and co-occurring conditions, identifying appropriate and individualised support packages, including reasonable adjustments.
• Supporting with the day-to-day administration ensuring student support needs are met, including administrating the dyslexia screening to diagnoses process and processing Disabled Students' Allowance applications.
• Working with students daily to support them, and signposting/referring them to external services, where appropriate, to ensure access to relevant support.
• Maintaining accurate and up-to-date student records.
• Facilitating the provision of appropriate adaptations and support, including the coordination of non-medical support.
• Ensure student enquiries are responded to in a timely manner.
• Supporting the development and maintenance of efficient systems and procedures for students applying for specialist disability related funding.
• Identifying and reporting Safeguarding concerns to the Safeguarding Team in a timely manner.
• Reporting concerns of risk to self, where appropriate, to the Mental Health Advisory or Counselling Services.
• Actively participating in and contributing to the development and delivery of workshops, activities, resources and the Wellness Review.

To be considered for this position, you should possess:

• Previous experience in a similar role in higher education or professional disability advice environment.
• Experience handling, prioritising and problem solving a range of enquiries.
• Strong relationship-building skills, and confidence liaising and engaging with a variety of stakeholders, in a fast-paced environment.

Open Up Music is an organisation with a simple but powerful mission: to open up music to young disabled musicians. We are looking for a Pastoral Support Officer for the National Open Youth Orchestra - a pioneering inclusive orchestra for disabled and non-disabled musicians.

About the role

As our Pastoral Support Officer for the National Open Youth Orchestra you will play a vital role in ensuring that young people participating in NOYO are supported, safe and cared for, and have the opportunity to meet their full potential. You will work alongside the NOYO team and partner organisations in the planning and delivery of NOYO activities, ensuring best-practice pastoral and welfare support for all NOYO musicians. The role will also enable and encourage participants to have a voice in the development of the orchestra.

You will use your positive and calm personality to build strong relationships with our musicians, their families and our partners, to ensure we deliver activities where young people are safe and supported. You will be a great communicator, understanding different ways of communicating with a diverse range of people, with the ability to listen, talk to and  nurture young people. And you will use your creativity to find ways to overcome barriers to participation and deliver fun and engaging activities to support the personal and social development of our musicians.​

About My Life My Choice

My Life My Choice (MLMC) is a multi-award-winning self-advocacy charity uniquely run by and for people with learning disabilities, founded in 1998.  The charity delivers a diverse range of innovative user led projects that enhance and empower the lives of adults with learning disabilities in Oxfordshire.  These established projects include a fee earning training and consultancy Professional Services team, the gig buddy and travel buddy schemes, a nightclub, campaigns and self-advocacy groups.

About the role

We are now looking for a committed individual who will enjoy a diverse and challenging role. The role holder will work across a variety of our projects. This includes working with the Travel Buddy Coordinator to ensure the delivery and growth of a high-quality programme of travel support for our membership.  Additionally, the successful individual will join the staff team in delivering self-advocacy groups, facilitate Quality Checks (peer inspections of local authority supported homes), and lead our crucial engagement with Oxfordshire County Council (OCC).  The work with OCC involves supporting and coordinating our members with a learning disability to effectively contribute and have their voices heard at high level meetings. 

This post calls for an individual with excellent project coordination, administration, and communication skills. We need a resilient individual who thrives on regular face-to-face interaction with beneficiaries and is as equally comfortable with professionals across the sector. The Volunteer Coordinator for WeSwim is a key role responsible for recruiting and onboarding volunteers to support all our activities and events, ensuring a positive and rewarding experience for all. • Volunteer management & support: Maintain an up-to-date database of volunteers, including contact information, availability, and skills. Work with Club Committees (lead volunteers) to foster a positive and inclusive environment for volunteers, encouraging teamwork and community spirit.

The Down’s Syndrome Association (DSA) aims to create and develop the conditions that will enable people who have Down's syndrome to lead fulfilling and rewarding lives. We are seeking an organised and enthusiastic Fundraising Events Assistant to join our fundraising team. This role is perfect for someone interested in start a career in fundraising and want to learn and develop with the community and challenge events fundraising.

The successful candidate will support the Manager of fundraising events with all challenge events in the portfolio.  This includes the planning, organisation, marketing, delivery, recruitment and stewardship of participants and day to day administration for all DSA events.
