About Us
The Wildlife Trusts are a federated movement of 46 charities, supported by a central charity, the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts. Together we have 900,000 members, 32,500 volunteers and 3,400 staff across the UK. We are at an exciting moment in our 110-year history, with the development of an ambitious new strategy, setting out a vision of nature in recovery, with abundant, diverse wildlife and natural processes creating wilder landscapes where people and nature thrive.
Wildlife Trusts have restored and care for some of the most special places for wildlife in the UK. Collectively we manage more than 2,300 nature reserves, operate 123 visitor and education centres and own 29 working farms. We undertake research, we stand up for wildlife and wild places under threat, and we help people access nature.
The next few years will be critical in determining what kind of world we all live in. We need to urgently reverse the loss of wildlife and put nature into recovery at scale if we are to prevent climate and ecological disaster. We recognise that this will require big, bold changes in the way The Wildlife Trusts work, not least in how we mobilise others and support them to organise within their own communities.
About You
Are you a brilliant communicator who thrives in a busy media environment where no two days are the same? If you have experience in media relations and would like to work for one of the UK’s best-loved nature charities, then we have an exciting opportunity for you!
Working within our small but brilliant national communications and media team, the Senior Media Officer will work to promote The Wildlife Trusts and our work, activities and messages to UK audiences through the national media, with a view to influencing key stakeholders, public opinion and action for nature’s recovery. From commentary on Government policy, through landscape recovery and restoration of iconic habitats such as Britain’s lost rainforests, to people organising for nature in their communities – we want our stories to be heard far and wide. You will develop and manage strategic relationships with the media and work to actively protect and enhance The Wildlife Trusts’ brand and reputation.
We are looking for an innovative and creative individual who has proven research, writing, editing, sub-editing and proof-reading skills. You will have previous experience of generating compelling news stories and features and ideally publicising campaigns, combined with the ability to sell in stories to journalists and editors. You will enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, be organised and resourceful and have great attention to detail.
We value passion, respect, trust, integrity and pragmatic activism and strength in diversity. Whilst we are passionate in promoting our aims, we are not judgmental, and we are inclusive. We want our people to be as diverse as nature, so we particularly encourage applications from people who are under-represented within our sector, including people from minority ethnic backgrounds and people with disabilities. We are committed to creating a movement that recognises and truly values individual differences and identities.
At The Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts we take our Safeguarding responsibilities extremely seriously. Please click here to read our commitment statement. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and adults at risk. The Environmental Portfolio at The Pew Charitable Trusts
For more than 30 years, Pew has been a major force in engaging the public and policy makers about the causes, consequences, and solutions to some of the world's most pressing environmental challenges. Our environment work spans all seven continents with more than 250 professionals working at the local, national, and international levels to reduce the scope and severity of global environmental problems, such as the erosion of large natural ecosystems that contain a great part of the world's remaining biodiversity, and the destruction of the marine environment. Pew's global environmental program focuses on science-based, nonpartisan, and sustainable solutions to help protect the planet and people. We work in partnership with governments, Indigenous rights holders, intergovernmental organizations, non-governmental organizations, local stakeholders, scientists, and other researchers to advance public policy so that nature and communities can thrive.
Since 1990, Pew has worked in North America, South America and Australia to protect large and critically important terrestrial ecosystems, including rivers and other freshwater resources, coastal temperate rainforests, interior mountain ranges, the northern boreal forests, Australia's Outback, and Chilean Patagonia. We work to ensure these natural systems remain bountiful, functioning, and resilient, providing essential ecological services such as clean air and clean water, sustenance and food security for local communities and more broadly for the welfare of current and future generations. Our work relies on the sciences of conservation, sociology, biology, and economics to advocate for practical and durable solutions to the loss of biodiversity.
In the sea, reforms to how our oceans are managed are essential to address overfishing, pollution, and loss of habitat. Pew began its oceans program in the United States, focusing on ending overfishing and protecting fragile marine habitat. Starting in 2005, Pew's ocean conservation program expanded around the world and played a significant role in reforming marine fisheries management in the European Union and on the high seas and creating large scale marine reserves around the world. Our work is grounded in the best available science and pursues domestic and international conservation measures that are long-term and provide permanent, durable protections for marine ecosystems. We also work to address systemic threats to the ocean, including from plastics, over-and-illegal fishing, seabed mining, and climate change.
International Fisheries
Pew's international fisheries work aims to protect marine biodiversity and provide food and livelihoods for a growing population by addressing in specific, targeted contexts one of the ocean's main threats-inadequate management and control of large-scale fishing activities. Organized into three projects, our main areas of work include: the advancement of precautionary harvest strategies and effective compliance regimes for international fisheries (RFMO Policy); improved policies and actions aimed at ending illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing (Ending Illegal Fishing); and the advancement of ecosystem considerations in the management of fisheries (Ecosystem Conservation).

You’ll be joining a small staff team of 8, supplemented by a vibrant and committed group of volunteers.
Attendance at approximately 8-10 five-six night residential projects per year outside London is a core component of this role.

Other benefits: 4% employer pension contribution paid on full base salary, rising by 1% per year of service, up to a maximum of 6%, hybrid working, office with great transport links, flexible working (outside core hours), employee reward scheme, a tight-knit effective team with great morale.
Based: Hybrid – our small office in Waterloo, London. Hybrid working is well established with the majority of the team splitting time around 50:50 between the office and home.
To start: Ideally, February 2025.
Who we’re looking for:
Our next Youth Work hero. You'll be fun, active, energised, deeply experienced in work with young people with complex needs, and looking to join an organisation you can believe in and who in return will believe and invest in you.
You’ll have multiple years’ experience working alongside young people who might struggle in other settings and will be used to dealing with a range of challenging behaviours and complex support needs, ideally including mental health support needs, with a good understanding of safeguarding. You’ll have the flexibility to work away from home on up to 10 week-long residential projects per year. Ideally, you’ll also have experience of leading projects for children – whether residential or non-residential. Experience of working on or leading residentials projects themselves is not required but may be an advantage.
We are a small, vibrant, friendly staff team of 8, growing to 9 by the summer, supported by a committed volunteer base of around 200.

ShareAction is an independent charity and an expert on responsible investment. We work to build a world where the financial system serves our planet and its people. We set ambitious standards for how financial institutions, through their investment decisions, can protect our planet and its people and campaign for this approach to become the norm. We convene shareholders to collectively push companies to tackle the climate crisis, protect nature, improve workers’ rights and shape healthier societies. In the UK and EU, we advocate for financial regulation that has society’s best interests at its core.
What you’ll do
The Corporate Climate team works to pressure some of the world’s largest companies to act on climate change and transition away from fossil fuels. We do this by working with investors, through a combination of public campaigning and private engagement, and encouraging them to use their shareholder rights for change.
Working with the Senior Research Manager, you will produce research and analysis on high-carbon sectors and companies, their business strategies, their climate impacts, and how they can decarbonise. Our research needs are varied, from technical deep dives into new technologies to quick-fire briefings on companies’ new climate targets. To separate facts from greenwashing, an eye for detail is a must.
You will work closely with the Campaign Manager and Communications team to promote our research to investors and public audiences. You will also contribute to other climate-related work inside ShareAction and manage relationships with a range of civil society organisations across the climate movement.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting and leading research on a broad range of topics at the intersection of climate change, the financial system, and a number of industry sectors. Our current focus is on European chemicals, but future work may include work on real estate, energy, and the food system.
- Producing reports, briefings and ad-hoc research for a range of audiences, including investors and the media.
- Supporting the climate campaigns team to prepare for meetings with companies and financial institutions.
- Working closely with our internal communications team to coordinate press and social media around publications and collaborate with other teams across the organisation as needed.
- Liaising with external audiences and developing/maintaining relationships with civil society organisations and financial institutions.
- Identifying new developments and trends in the external environment which may provide opportunities for our mission.
If this role sounds like something that would build on your current skill set and engage you, we’d love to hear from you!
What you’ll bring to the team
We’re looking for an analyst with excellent communication skills and a strong interest in decarbonisation. You needn’t have worked on the sectors we cover, so long as you want to put your skills to tackling climate change now.
We welcome applications from anyone who shares our passion for environmental and social justice through the transformation of the financial sector. Please feel free to apply even if you’re not sure you tick every box.
Essential
You will:
- Have experience of leading or being part of a research project.
- Have a good understanding of how climate change affects companies in a range of sectors and an awareness of how climate change creates risks for financial institutions.
- Have strong analytical skills, being able to quickly grasp new, complex subjects and pull out relevant insights.
- Be comfortable analysing, manipulating, and presenting quantitative information.
- Have excellent written and verbal English and be able to communicate complex topics to a variety of audiences.
- Be able to plan, manage and deliver your work to agreed objectives and timelines, balancing competing priorities and reprioritising when needed.
- Be a natural collaborator and team player with strong interpersonal skills.
- Have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
Desirable
- Any experience working as an analyst in financial services or industry experience in energy, heavy industry, the food sector, or real estate.
- An understanding of companies’ financial reporting (being able to read balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements).
What we will do for you
We are a fast-paced organisation that has grown substantially over the past few years. We recognise that our people work hard to advocate for responsible investment and drive meaningful engagement with those who have the power to create a brighter future. Every day, they bring their expertise, passion and persistence to build a world where the financial system serves our people and planet. We want to ensure we provide the right environment for our colleagues to thrive, and we are committed to improving our employee offer where possible.
Currently, we are pleased to offer:
- A commitment to flexible working: over 60% of our employees have some sort of flexible working arrangement in place.
- Hybrid working: we are committed to supporting our staff to work in a way that suits their lifestyle and meets the requirements of their role.
- Internal promotion and development opportunities: we offer a range of ways to improve your skills and focus on what you love, including promotion, secondment, or sideways development opportunities. For some levels of roles, we also offer direct progression.
- The opportunity to help make a difference: we tackle some of the world’s biggest social and environmental challenges. We offer opportunities for you to develop your skills and experience in a friendly, flexible and supportive working environment.
- A unionised work environment: our staff have the opportunity to join the union and are supported by our recognised union, Unite. We regularly consult and negotiate with our employees on workplace matters ranging from working conditions to pay.
- Regular in-person meetings, including all-staff away days, retreats and directorate strategy days to create connected teams.
- 8% non-contributory pension, invested with NEST and their green funds.
- A healthcare cash plan with Westfield that gives you money back on your healthcare costs.
- An employee assistance programme: advice and support, lifestyle discounts and short-term counselling.
- 25 days’ annual leave (increasing with length of service) plus office closure at the end of the year, ensuring everyone gets time to switch off together.
- Enhanced family leave pay: up to 18 weeks paid at 90% for either parent.
