As a charity we are able to help thousands of cats each year thanks to the generous donations we receive from members of the public. Our fundraising team leaders have the exciting and varied role of inspiring our fundraising volunteers to plan and deliver local fundraising events. Using their passion and imagination, they oversee a small team of fundraising volunteers who come together to raise the vital funds needed to cover costs such as veterinary bills and food. Our fundraising team leaders support their team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure our volunteers are happy, confident and supported.

Time expectation

About the role:
If you are an experienced fundraiser, we need your help! Been There’s Board of Trustees share ultimate responsibility for governing the charity and directing how it is managed and run. As a member of the Board, you will help set the strategic aims, objectives and direction of the charity. The Role:
1. Manage Food Service Volunteers

Why am I needed?
Our shops depend on a regular supply of quality donated stock. As some shops receive more donations than others, we need drivers to move stock between our shops to ensure they are all fully stocked.
Our fantastic supporters rely on stock donations being collected from their door when they are unable to bring it to us. Here at Tenovus Cancer Care we receive donated stock in many different ways, and this includes us collecting stock from supporters at their front door and picking up collections from local business partners.
All of this vital work needs to happen for us to raise more money to help cancer patients and their families.
What will I be doing?
Dependant on your volunteer location, duties may include but may not be limited to:
Predominantly assisting the Retail team in moving stock between shops
Taking this donated stock to shops and to the Warehouse
Delivering donation bags to homes in selected areas and collecting the full bags on an agreed day
Collecting donations at businesses where our ‘Donation Stations’ are located
Offering feedback to the Retail team on how to improve the collections service.

The ability to drive and have a good size car or van is essential for the driving role if based at one of our shops. How much time do I need to commit?
This can be discussed with the Retail team and hours are very flexible to fit around you – please note on your application how much time you can give.

What will you be doing?
We are passionate about helping people facing financial hardship. We have now moved away from our main offer only being about providing grants to help people pay their water bills. We know we can also make a huge difference by working in partnership with other organisations, and by providing funding where there are currently gaps. There are already many excellent organisations working across the Midlands, who have trusted relationships with those people who are most in need. We will provide funding to those organisations so that they are able to deliver more help to more people locally.
We have over 25 years of experience helping people under our previous brand of the Severn Trent Trust Fund, and now move forward under our new name, the Evnia Charitable Trust. Moving away from being the Severn Trent Trust Fund is not just about a rebranding exercise, it also marks a significant change in the strategic direction of our charity and now is an exciting for new Trustees to join to help shape our new approach.
Evnia Charitable Trust also has a subsidiary company, Auriga Services, which is a public benefit entity with almost 20 years of experience and expertise in providing services for the general public or social benefit.

Citizens Advice Esher & District is a well-established local advice charity that is seeking a HR professional to joins its trustee board and help deliver effective people management policies and plans. If you’re excited to help us have the right team in place to meet the advice needs of our local community in Surrey, we would love to hear from you.
Our Trustee Board is responsible for providing us with strategic thinking. As our Human Resources expert on the Board, you will work alongside the Chair, Personnel Sub-committee and Chief Executive to:
- Provide strategic and occasional operational advice on issues such as recruitment, employment contracts and remuneration
- Take a lead in reviewing the charity’s people management policies and procedures
- Advise on workforce planning and engagement to deliver our short and long term objectives
- Chair our Personnel sub-committee, setting the agenda for each six-monthly meeting and helping to prepare agenda papers
As a member of the Trustee Board, you will be responsible for:
● Maintaining an awareness of how our charity is operating
● Reading papers for Board meetings and attending six meetings per year
● Working on specific projects with other trustees or staff to further the strategic objectives of the charity
● Taking an active discussion during Board meetings and working with other trustees to:
- set policy and strategy direction, set targets and evaluate the performance of the charity
- ensure that all the finances and supporting financial control systems of the charity are in order
- monitor the financial position of the charity ensuring that it operates within its means and objectives
- monitor how well the service meets the needs of the local community
- ensure that the service plans for the recruitment and turnover of staff and volunteers
- review its own work and how effectively it operates including action for improvement
Person Specification
We need someone who either lives, works or studies in Elmbridge who has:
- HR experience with current knowledge of UK employment law, policy and practice, including compensation and benefits
- A commitment to the Citizens Advice organisation
- An understanding of the differences between managing the rights of employees and managing the rights of volunteers
- A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort
We are particularly keen to achieve a more diverse Board of Trustees and welcome applications from all sections of the community. Experience of Citizens Advice work is not required.
Time commitment
Our Trustees are expected to attend six board meetings each year. These normally take place on a Monday evening, alternating between 5-7pm and 7pm-9pm, at our office in Esher. There is an option to join most meetings online, although we encourage meeting in person. Reading preparation for each Board meeting will take around one-two hours. All Citizens Advice Trustees are required to complete a small number of e-learning courses each year.
You will also be asked to Chair and prepare papers for our Personnel sub-committee which meets six-monthly, and to offer ad-hoc support relevant to your expertise.

People with good local knowledge and strategic vision can really help us to develop a service that meets the changing advice needs of our community.
More specifically, your input will help us to recruit and retain staff and volunteers and achieve a sustainable future. Without this, we risk having to cut our service to local residents and workers - and the most vulnerable members of society will have nowhere else to turn.
