South West Advocacy Network (SWAN) want to strengthen their Board of Trustees with up to 4 new Trustee appointments. These are voluntary positions and provide opportunity to help SWAN to develop its strategic direction and sustain innovative services to some of the most vulnerable people in our communities, primarily, but not solely, in counties across the South of England.
SWAN began life in Wiltshire and over the past 25 years has expanded into Somerset, Bristol, Dorset, Isle of Wight, West Berkshire and Portsmouth. We deliver high quality, independent advocacy services supporting a diverse range of vulnerable people. We have developed a model of advocacy which ensures everyone, including the most marginalised, have the same rights and opportunities as their fellow citizens. Our services are free at the point of delivery, confidential and non-judgemental.
We work with people from all walks of life and have already supported thousands of the most disadvantaged people to have their voice heard and their choices respected by those that are making decisions about their future.
We are looking for dynamic and empathetic people to become trustees within our organisation, people who have the passion and drive to support SWAN and help us to ensure that the voices around our Board table reflect and understand the communities we work in. Key Tasks
Trustees ensure that the foodbank acts in accordance with its purpose and with charity legislation, and that good governance, best practice policies and rigorous financial supervision are in place. They are required to work collaboratively, with other trustees and with the staff and volunteers of the foodbank, and other external agencies.
- Embrace the organisation’s vision, mission and values.
- Ensure the foodbank has appropriate procedures to comply with its governing document, current legislation and good practice including; employment; health and safety; equal opportunities; safeguarding & GDPR compliance/data protection etc.
- To work alongside the Treasurer and the trustee board to ensure the foodbank’s financial dealings are systematically accounted for and on time, independently examined (on income over £25k) and made publicly available when necessary.

- Act with integrity, making objective decisions without undue influence by special or personal interests.

Trustees may also undertake additional work for the charity between meetings subject to their availability and skill set.

We are looking for people who want to help their local community and work towards the eradication of food poverty whilst support the foodbank to continue to provide emergency food to people who find themselves in crisis. Our ideal candidates would demonstrate:

Unwaste.io is a UK based social enterprise using data to create a circular economy for plastic. Our cloud platform, Wastebase, collects data about single-use plastic waste found in the environment. We encourage individuals, communities and NGOs to use our free Wastebase app to collect evidence about the plastic waste they find in their area. We want producers to take responsibility for where their waste ends up. Our data can help them do that.
We’re looking for a UK-based volunteer who can help connect with community organisations in the UK and encourage more people to use Wastebase to support their activities. If you like being out and about, talking to people who want to improve their community and you are interested in improving the environment, this might be the role for you.
Regular tasks
We’ll support you to understand our aims and audience and encourage you to bring your own ideas and creativity to what we do. Regular tasks will involve:

identifying and engaging with community organisations involved in local clean ups, waste or litter campaigning or plastic free advocacy through Facebook, instagram and TikTok, supported by our Social Media Manager

joining local clean ups in person to demonstrate the Wastebase app and get people excited about using it

joining meetings remotely to give demos or presentations about Wastebase, supported by our comms lead

distributing posters for community groups to use in their local displays
Essential requirements

Expenses
Unwaste.io will reimburse reasonable travel expenses (including fuel). This could include train travel to meet a community group, for example, plus lunch if out for a whole day. These must be agreed in advance.
Working schedule
We expect our volunteers to join regular weekly check ins - these are usually about 30 mins at an agreed time. Outside of this, we expect you to manage your own time and complete tasks in a way that suits both your schedule and the requirements of the role. This is likely to include some time at the weekends (to join clean ups) or in the evenings.
We are always available to answer questions and offer support and encourage all of our team to ask for help whenever they need it. If you are joining clean ups and events, we will support you to do this safely.
Training and support
We’ll provide you with appropriate training on our app and data management platform, as well as the collaboration tools we use. We’ll also support you to develop your knowledge of plastics and the circular economy, and to build your skills around community engagement (writing, presentation, identifying contacts for example). You'll be supported by our Partnerships and Comms lead and will work alongside our Social Media Manager and Data Volunteer.
If you wish to use this role as a basis for a personal study project or portfolio project, we will be happy to provide you with additional access to our data and digital tools.

A bit about this role
At Cats Protection we help thousands of cats and kittens each year thanks to our dedicated and passionate volunteer groups. We have over 250 branches across the UK, all of which help our feline friends in different ways. Branches take in stray and abandoned cats and ensure they receive the veterinary care and attention they deserve, help raise funds, promote neutering and help spread cat welfare messages. Our branch team leader volunteers lead their local team by supporting and managing volunteers within their group, maintaining communications with both volunteers and staff, and helping promote a positive and professional image of Cats Protection.
What can you expect to be doing?
- Supporting your team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure volunteers are happy and confident
- Making sure the team observes charity best practice and compliance
- Collaborating with your Branch Development Manager (BDM) to plan volunteer activity

Time expectation

There will be times of year when more hours are required, such as towards the end of the financial year, but support and guidance are always available.

About Cambridge Acorn Project
Cambridge Acorn Project is a well-respected therapeutic charity in Cambridgeshire. We do holistic therapeutic work with children and families who have experienced trauma and are facing financial hardship. We are a responsive, justice-focused charity where children and their families who have lived through adverse experiences can access support quickly and in a way that is meaningful for them.
The role
We are looking for committed trainee counsellors and therapists to join us as students on placement to work with children and young people (CYP) and adults.
Please note that the placement will be mainly with CYP (in primary or secondary school settings). There may be some opportunities for one to one counselling with parents/carers, however, we are not currently offering adult-only placements.
Responsibilities and main duties
- To undertake pieces of therapeutic work with CYP or with CYP and families as agreed with the supervisor.
- To use evidence-based therapeutic interventions with children and families.
- To support with community initiatives, including wellbeing drop-ins or projects.
- To ensure all client case notes, assessments, and any other documentation are completed in accordance with the policies and procedures of Cambridge Acorn Project.
- To attend supervision and clinical supervision at agreed times*
- To carry out any other activities that may reasonably be requested by the management team, drawing on broader skills and knowledge.
- Maintaining confidentiality and boundaries.
- Staying up to date with and adhering to organisational policies, including safeguarding.

Introduction to the Marketing, Outreach, and Advocacy vertical Lead role:
The Marketing, Outreach, and Advocacy Lead is the driving force behind Barawak’s communication, its brand identity and public presence. This strategic role involves developing and implementing marketing and outreach initiatives to amplify Barawak's mission and to advocate for the Afro-Hebrew community. It requires collaboration with trustees and programme leads to ensure consistent messaging and effective advocacy.

We’re recruiting a Treasurer to provide strategic leadership over our continued financial growth to support our ambitious new strategy to be launched in 2025.
We’re seeking a Treasurer to join our board of trustees and work with our CEO to ensure the financial stability and growth of Camcycle. You will be a committed and enthusiastic supporter of cycling in and around Cambridge and a member of Camcycle. This does not mean you need to cycle very far, very often or indeed at all, but rather that you understand the benefits large-scale everyday cycling can have for our society and environment. (If you are not currently a member you can join in advance of submitting your trustee nomination form).
Ideally, you will have a formal accountancy qualification and/or practical experience with charity finances. You will also understand the dynamics of a small high-performance organisation, and be able to work with a variety of stakeholders including staff, other trustees, volunteers, members, donors and other partners. Our Treasurer will not be expected to get involved in day-to-day financial operations.

Who we are and what we do
Camcycle (Cambridge Cycling Campaign) is a high-profile and influential local charity working for more, better and safer cycling, for all ages and abilities, in and around the Cambridge region, where half the population cycles at least once a week. We are democratic and member-led, with over 1,700 members and many volunteers.
Our funding is derived from membership subscriptions, donations, grants from grant-making bodies, corporate partnerships, advertising and merchandise sales. We have five permanent members of staff, periodic interns and freelancers and many active volunteers including our board of trustees. In 2025/2026 we expect to complete our transition to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation.
Our Finance Subcommittee of trustees and staff oversees the financial processes and operations of the organisation. Our CEO and Finance Assistant run our day-to-day finances and we have plans to add a Finance Director or similar role to the team in the near future.
Camcycle’s work includes:
- Responding to planning applications and public consultations.
- Organising events including our Cambridge Festival of Cycling, the Reach Ride with 1,000 participants, stalls at community events, workplace information sessions and campaigning meetings.
- Publication of print and digital cycling advocacy materials including leaflets for students, our quarterly magazine and blogs and social media posts.
- Making representations to the media and public bodies such as the council in the interest of a wide diversity of people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities who are cycling for general transport purposes in the greater Cambridge region.

Why am I needed?
Community is at the heart of everything that we do at Tenovus Cancer Care to help those affected by cancer. Our aim is simple – to deliver a vision where fewer people get cancer and those that do receive equal access to excellent treatment. However, we can’t do this without your help. Our shops in local communities are crucial to us raising vital funds. So, we’d like you to volunteer your time and commitment to help us make a difference.
We need you to lead the shop volunteer team when the manager’s not in work to make sure our customers are getting the best shopping experience possible. It’s all about making sure that the shop’s running smoothly, it looks good and there’s money being made. You’ll also be opening and closing the shop and completing the banking and shop admin as well as stock handling and managing our security processes. So, it really is a role where you’ll get loads of retail management experience.

How much time do I need to commit?
We’d need you to give around 7.5 hours per week if you can with the possibility to do more if you’d like to. However, we appreciate any time you’d like to give; please let us know this on your application form.

Before starting with Tenovus Cancer Care, we ask that you visit the Shop Management team in the shop so we can both see how the role may suit you.
Following that the Shop Manager and team will be on hand to advise and help you select products you can use.

Key responsibilities of a trustee will include:

Why am I needed?
Community is at the heart of everything that we do at Tenovus Cancer Care to help those affected by cancer. Our aim is simple – to deliver a vision where fewer people get cancer and those that do receive equal access to excellent treatment. However, we can’t do this without your help. Our shops in local communities are crucial to us raising vital funds. So, we’d like you to volunteer your time and commitment to help us make a difference.
We need you to lead the shop volunteer team when the manager’s not in work to make sure our customers are getting the best shopping experience possible. It’s all about making sure that the shop’s running smoothly, it looks good and there’s money being made. You’ll also be opening and closing the shop and completing the banking and shop admin as well as stock handling and managing our security processes. So, it really is a role where you’ll get loads of retail management experience.

This has a huge impact on every aspect of an adult’s life. It is well-evidenced that young people and adults who are unemployed are more likely to live in poverty, lack confidence and self-worth and feel isolated from friends and family.

Why now is the right time to join us
This is an exciting time to join us as earlier this year we converted to a charity (from a CIC). As we look to the future, we are seeking to build on the expertise we have established over the last 20 years.
To date we have relied heavily on contracts from local government. The need to diversify our income base, to support more clients into employment and to provide a more secure future for our clients, fed into our decision to become a charity.
We are looking for a Trustee who has worked in a charity finance or treasurer role to provide a strategic steer for the financial/treasury aspects of our work, as a charity. In the months ahead we will be looking to revise our strategy, and put in place the infrastructure needed to begin to establish new income streams. You would have the opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the underlying finance/treasury processes, compliance and disciplines, bringing us closer to delivering our support to more clients.
Trustee Role Description
Ways into Work is looking for new Trustees. As a Trustee, you will play a crucial role in setting the strategic direction of the charity and ensuring good governance. You will contribute to ensuring that the charity fulfils its mission, operates effectively, and remains accountable to its clients - adults and young people living with disabilities and neurodiversity.
Duties:
- Oversee, support and advise the operation of our finance/treasurer function.
- Oversee Ways into Work’s financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress.
- Support and provide advice on achieving Ways into Work’s purpose, vision, goals and activities.
- Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively.
- Provide support and challenge to Ways into Work’s CEO in the execution of their delegated authority and affairs, particularly in finance.
- Act as ambassador for Ways into Work, promoting our work and building networks of interested parties who are enthusiastic about our work.

About you
You do not need to have previous experience of acting as a Trustee. We are looking for you to bring the personal skills and qualities outlined below, alongside expert knowledge in charity finance/treasurer.
We recognise the specialist skills required for charity finance/treasurer and would value specialist knowledge in one or more of the following areas so you can provide strategic steers and advice: Tax, Accounts, Compliance, managing different income types, suitable reserves, risk management and other charity treasurer areas.
We would greatly value experience of acting at a senior level (such as in a ‘Head of’ role) as you will need to be comfortable sharing your expertise with the wider Board, and offering support and constructive challenge to our current finance function and senior leadership team.

Branch Trustee (Preston & District reg Charity No 232256)

Overview of the Branch Trustee opportunity
We are looking for enthusiastic and passionate people who could devote the time to volunteer with us as one of our Trustees. As a Trustee of the Branch, you will have the chance to influence how we care for and prevent cruelty to animals and drive the implementation of key initiatives. You will serve on the governing body of the charity and be instrumental in the running of the Branch and setting out both the short and long term aims.
As a charity trustee, you will be responsible for ensuring effective governance and strategic direction for the branch, you will provide leadership and support for the branch management team.
We are recruiting for a complementary mix of skills within our trustee board. Whilst a passion for animals is crucial, we are also looking for a diversity of skills such as general business management , finance, marketing, Legal, IT, HR and H&S etc, if this is you, we would love to hear from you.
Your role as a Trustee will require working in collaboration with your fellow trustees, staff and volunteers to ensure our branch continues to deliver our important animal welfare work.
As a minimum, trustees would normally be expected to attend a bi-monthly committee meeting lasting around 2 to 3 hours (virtual meetings are an option). However, the commitment may vary depending on your availability, and if you decide to take on additional duties.
Trustee do not need to live within the branch boundaries but occasional travel to Branch sites may be required from time to time.

About the RSPCA Preston & District Branch
Over 80% of the animal welfare work of the RSPCA is carried out through local Branches which are run by staff and volunteers, supported by the RSPCA National Society.
Preston & District Branch has been affiliated with the National RSPCA for 150 years!
A separately registered charity looking after animals in the local area and engaging with the local community.
Our mission is to seek out safe homes for abandoned, neglected or abused animals who are nursed back to health, rehabilitated and found forever loving homes.
Preston & District Branch is part of a network of 140 branches, and 1 of only 8 in the North of England with an animal centre.
The rehoming centre is within the Preston area (close to JCN 31 of the M6).
RSPCA Preston & District Branch is a well established Branch with approximately 20 members of staff and 75 volunteers across 4 locations and raises all its funds locally through supporters and other income streams.
To continue helping animals in need the Branch also operates 3 charity shops in Longridge, Chorley and Penwortham (within our specified branch area) which bring in a regular income to keep our animal centre open.
Primary responsibilities of the Branch Trustee
- Appreciate and support the aims and policies of the RSPCA.
- Work in conjunction with fellow trustees and branch officers and jointly act in making decisions for the best interest of the branch and the RSPCA.
- In conjunction with your fellow trustees, ensure the proper management and control of all activities and decisions relating to any premises held or staff employed by the branch if applicable.
- Work with national RSPCA staff to ensure that the branch meets all minimum animal welfare standards (MAWS).
- In conjunction with your fellow trustees and Branch Partnership Manager write, adopt, monitor, and review a development plan setting out the short and long term aims of your branch.
- Actively participate in branch committee meetings and to attend the branch annual general meeting.
- Be aware of the outcome of regional board meetings and support local initiatives.
- Actively promote and advertise the society in an ongoing programme to recruit new branch trustees and volunteers and welcome new members.
What we are looking for in a volunteer:
- Ideally you would have some level of knowledge in the following areas-
- Financial, Human Resources, Health & Safety backgrounds or legal; Marketing communication including social media, PR, website;
- Fundraising including corporate fundraising, trust fund and grant applications;
- Local community and supporter relationships; Project management, business development
- Awareness of employment and/or charity legislation
- General management or business administration
These all can be useful to help ensure we have a sound and robust business model and long term strategic development plan, however, they are not essential.
We are looking for people who are creative, innovative, who have experience of or are part of groups and communities we want to attract, who can bring new ideas, different experiences and fresh perspectives to the board and to help put those ideas into action.
