About the Bar Human Rights Committee

BHRC is the international human rights arm of the Bar of England and Wales, working to protect the rights of advocates, judges and human rights defenders around the world. About the Role

We are looking for someone who is proactive and efficient with an eye for detail, who has experience working with smaller organisations, and who has a flexible and can-do attitude. The primary responsibilities would be to assist with BHRC communications, events organisation, and project administration. An interest in human rights issues or international development would be of benefit. The position will be directly supervised by the Project Team, with oversight from the Vice Chair and respective office holders as required. The position will be based in part remotely and in part in the London office, including for meetings and events. Working arrangements will be agreed with the successful candidate.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the setting up of meetings, calls (Zoom / telephone / other virtual platforms), appointments and travel arrangements for BHRC-related business, and minute-taking for internal and external meetings on request, including the monthly BHRC Executive Committee meeting (which the Assistant must be available to attend in person unless held on Teams at the discretion of the BHRC Chair).
• Support with follow ups to email communications, meeting requests, and other routine correspondence either received by BHRC or outgoing from BHRC.
• Support the Project Team with the administration and planning of international project work.
• Assist in the organisation and administration of events and other initiatives and programmes that BHRC may host or adopt.
• Support with social media management across multiple platforms (proficiency with Twitter and LinkedIn is essential).
• Ability to draft social media posts, organisation announcements, website content, and other materials as required.
• Efficient inputting of new contacts and member data on a daily basis into BHRC membership systems as well as ongoing maintenance of contact information to ensure accuracy and integrity of information (updating contact job changes, new email addresses, renewal dates, etc).

• Support the project team with the creation and circulation of a monthly email newsletter sent to BHRC members and contacts via MailerLite.

The successful candidate will work within the Youth Work Team to deliver our frontline drop-in service and support our weekly and monthly activities to all young people experiencing homelessness.
You’ll specialise in ensuring a diverse range of young people’s voices are heard, facilitating inclusive activities which increase youth participation across all our services and leading on the delivery of our youth forums. We have an ambitious plan to improve and accelerate our youth voice strategy and this role will be at the heart of this delivery.

Job Purpose

This is a critical role, sitting at the heart of hyh, the purpose of which is to provide high quality administrative support to the CEO, coordinate and administer the leadership and governance of the organisation and oversee the smooth running of the office.

Administration and Support for the CEO

• Be a step ahead at all times in providing executive support to the CEO including: diary organisation, making appointments, responding to invitations, dealing with correspondence, and liaising with external partners and arranging travel.
• Conduct research, prepare papers and briefings, produce PowerPoint presentations.
• Project support for organisation wide projects.

Leadership and governance support

• Plan and coordinate the efficient running of leadership and governance meeting cycles, including scheduling meetings, booking venues, circulating documents, collating reports, minute taking, maintaining action logs, arranging refreshments etc. This includes the Board of Trustees and two sub-committees (Governance and Finance), Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and Leadership Team (LT).

Office management

• Build and maintain service and supplier contracts and relationships, including our landlord, telephones, broadband, lone working devices, phones, printers and cleaning.
• Be the main contact for our IT managed services provider and act as the internal contact point for any  IT queries.

Organisational support

• Support the SLT with our day to day health and safety compliance including administering Health and Safety Committee meetings, carrying out workstation assessments and conducting regular H&S checks and annual PAT testing.
• Support the SLT with our data protection including administering GDPR Committee meetings, managing the relationship with our external Data Protection consultant and acting as the internal point of contact.
• Provide staff induction and on-boarding in relation to the office, IT and equipment.

Skills and experience: 

• Significant experience as a senior Executive Assistant at CEO level.
• Significant levels of office management experience.
• Strong administrative background, ideally with experience working in the non-profit sector but not essential
• Experience managing and overseeing contracts, ensuring the service providers are excellent value for money.
• Experience acting as secretariat to boards of trustees or similar governance bodies.

We are seeking a Mission Enabler, Regional Mission to work in partnership with key staff across the Movement. They will provide direction and energy to Scripture Union’s Regional Ministry with a focus on establishing and sustaining ministry opportunities. This will require the person to recruit, motivate, train, equip and support a large number of volunteers/Faith Guides, with whom they work in partnership as well as leading by example, through the modelling of excellent mission delivery to children and young people consistent with Scripture Union’s mission. This role will the cover Hampshire, Surrey and Sussex areas.

The successful candidate will:

· Identify, recruit and support Faith Guides, volunteers and Local Mission Partners (LMPs) through a range of methods, including electronic, phone and face to face.

· Provide relevant coaching and/or mentoring, equipping and resourcing for Faith Guides, volunteers and LMPs.

· Lead local mission activity within Scripture Union’s mission framework, establishing a clear hand-over process and timetable to local church partners.

· Pioneer new approaches/ideas in line with SU’s strategy that have the potential to be replicated elsewhere and lead to a greater scale and depth of mission activity.

· Support, by promotion or direct involvement,  SU’s wider programme of holidays and missions across England and Wales and, if appropriate, internationally.

· Undertake specific fundraising activities and approaches in line with SU’s fundraising approach.

Are you considering entering a career in law, having a strong passion for social justice? We are recruiting a Legal Assistant to provide administrative and legal support to PILC’s Gypsy and Traveller Legal Advice project which aims to defend and promote the rights of gypsies and travellers to pursue a nomadic way of life. You will assist our Supervising Solicitor, an expert in gypsy and traveller law, who has represented this underprivileged community over the last 15 years. As well as working on client files, you will liaise with the Legal Aid Agency to ensure their cases receive public funding, making sure documentation is prepared for court hearings, and arranging for experts and other participants to take part in proceedings.  

Ideally you will be available to join us from the beginning of September to benefit from a full introduction by the incumbent.
