We are looking for a Community Organiser to join the Thames Valley Citizens team in Reading, building the power of local communities.  The role will work across the whole city and will support existing member institutions, as well as focus on recruiting new ones, particularly ‘anchor institutions’ such as schools/colleges, faith institutions, and unions. Primary responsibilities will include recruiting new members; developing core teams in member institutions and supporting community leaders to take action on issues of shared concern.

A Community Organiser is responsible for the day-to-day development or maintenance of a Citizens alliance or small chapter. A Community Organiser is a practitioner of the craft of broad-based community organising methodology, and focuses on the building of relational power, the recruitment and retention of dues-paying institutions, the development of leaders, the strengthening of member institutions, leader-led public actions, and the winning of systemic change.

Thames Valley Citizens is a chapter of Citizens UK comprising Citizens MK (in Milton Keynes), Reading Citizens, and Oxford Citizens). Main Responsibilities

Working as a Thames Valley Citizens Community Organiser in Reading, reporting to a Regional Supervisor, your main responsibilities will include:

Community Organiser for Reading Citizens:

• Work as part of a team of organisers across Thames Valley and across the South East of England (Thames Valley, Essex, and Sussex)

• Recruit civil society institutions into the alliance

• Support existing institutions across Reading Citizens to focus upon institutional development and strengthen civil society.

• Build relationships and support our strategic partnerships with Reading University and the Students’ Union.

Build relational power to further the goals of CUK:

• Develop a comprehensive power analysis for Reading Citizens

• Develop and grow a substantial network of key influencers at a local level, including journalists; taking the initiative to establish new relationships as required

• Conduct at least 3 121s a day in order to develop relationships with leaders; ensuring a deep understanding of their concerns.

• Tell a wide range of Community Organising stories effectively in order to influence others and achieve CUK’s goals

Identify and develop relational leaders prepared to act with others for the common good:

• Identify and discern actual and potential leaders with the passion and ability to drive change 

• Achieve significant development of primary and secondary leaders; nominate new leaders for training on the core taster curriculum and for National Training 

• Successfully lead training on the core taster curriculum at a local level and teach a variety of sessions on the National Training course

Strengthen institutions and develop BBOs:

• Ensure good understanding of the basic interests and traditions of typical member institutions

• Organise a full local alliance or a large cluster of up to 15 standard member organisations or up to 5 strategic partners to work together on shared issues, including a Leadership Team

• Support pre-existing core teams and create/develop new core teams to provide leadership for multi-institutional campaigns

• Run institutional development campaigns in a range of types of organisation

Support leaders through the Cycle of Action in order to create change:

• Take the staff lead on major actions and campaigns at a local level; aiming to achieve multiple large local wins

• Develop and facilitate action planning teams at local level

• Develop strategies for significant local impact; with comprehensive plans and tactics

• Organise and support local actions, ensuring publicity, and facilitating negotiations 

• Evaluate the effectiveness of actions; demonstrating ability to incorporate lessons learned into future actions

Contribute to CUK’s financial viability through effective fundraising & financial management:

• Recruit new dues paying institutions; negotiating annual membership fees and letters of understanding as required

• Contribute to fundraising by securing £40k-£60k per annum overall, at least half of which must be ‘hard money’ from the recruitment and retention of member institutions. 

• Manage the budget at Alliance/campaign level, incl. setting/ monitoring of budgets, and ensuring dues are collected in a timely manner

Contribute to effective teamwork:

• Be proactive concerning personal professional development and wellbeing, i.e. by reading widely, developing a healthy work-life balance and demonstrating ability to reflect on own organising craft and improve on self-identified weaknesses

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a Project Assistant to support INQUEST’s National Lottery Heritage Fund project, Unlocking the INQUEST archive: memorialising death and resistance. This project encourages engagement with the INQUEST archive and memorialises state-related death and resistance through creative outputs including: 12-month consultation, artist’s residency, banner making, small scale events, archival research, film screenings and a podcast series.

Organised, motivated by logistics, system-orientated, able to react efficiently to pressure, change and multitasking, the ideal candidate will possess outstanding communications skills necessary to liaising with a varied audience, including bereaved families and other key project stakeholders. They will be experienced in handling telephone calls, email correspondence, administration systems, and key IT software packages. Working closely with the project manager and project staff, they will support all components of our heritage project, including organising events and travel, liaising with key stakeholders, project social media and general administration. About the Role

You will be a Registered Nurse with a current Nursing and Midwifery Council Pin and will share our vision of making choice a reality for everyone. Oasis Community Hub East Southampton are recruiting for an experienced Lead Youth Worker to work alongside the youth and community hub team in East Southampton.  This positive, adaptable and talented youth worker will help us to deliver detached youth work and mentoring. The University of Essex is excited to have formed a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with the Minstead Trust. The Minstead Trust is a charity based in Hampshire, which works in collaboration with people with learning disabilities and their family carers, to enable them to achieve greater independence and live happier and healthier lives. One of their main areas of work is accommodation support. As they transition into adult accommodation support services, adults with a learning disability, their family carers, and Minstead Trust accommodation support staff form a tripartite relationship through which support is planned and delivered within the Minstead Trust. However, to date practices in support provision have differed, leading to miscommunications, relationship difficulties, and some areas of inconsistency and discontinuity in provided support and living circumstances. There are also often difficulties experienced during the transition from child to adult learning disability services. These are sector wide issues, which ultimately impact service users’ participation in the various activities and occupations that provide meaning, purpose, and routine within their everyday lives.

The KTP will last for 24 months and utilise a participatory action research (PAR) approach to engage relevant stakeholders who comprise and surround the tripartite relationship described above. Together they will co-produce, implement, and evaluate distinct new ways of working. These new ways of working will revolutionise engagement between adults with learning disabilities, their family carers, and Minstead Trust staff, and lead to improved experiences for all stakeholders.

As a KTP, the KTP Associate role constitutes more than just the completion of a research project, as the focus of the role is to facilitate knowledge transfer between the University and the Minstead Trust. A key objective is that the KTP also embeds the capability of co-production within the Minstead Trust through staff engagement and support. Co-production involves partnership working towards a mutually defined aim, where everyone connected with an issue plays an active part, and existing skills, experience and knowledge are valued and utilised (Pettican et al, 2022).

This role will lead our Evaluation Practice. ImpactEd Evaluation works with schools and organisations, analysing the impact of programmes and interventions to help them do more of what works and less of what doesn’t. The practice works with over 1,500 schools and 80 education and youth organisations, serving more than a quarter of million pupils.

The Opportunity

We are excited to advertise this opportunity to join ImpactEd Group as the Managing Director of ImpactEd Evaluation. This Board-level role will empower you to drive change at scale across the education sector, supporting our partners to make better decisions on behalf of children.

The Managing Director of our Evaluation practice will guide a team of dedicated professionals, leading research and evaluation projects spanning the education and youth sector, helping our partners to understand what’s working and do less of what isn’t. This role is pivotal to our five-year Group strategy and will involve setting the strategic direction of the practice, building on our reputation, and advancing our ambitious vision for growth and innovation.

This position is ideal for someone who combines a strategic mindset with hands-on leadership, adept at moving between high-level planning and practical oversight. We seek a leader with entrepreneurial spirit, a background in education or research, and experience in driving organisational growth and partnerships.

Job Title: Media and Publicity Manager

Location: London Hybrid or Home based with occasional travel to London

Salary: £37,355 - £42,653

Contract: Permanent, 35 hours per week

Role Overview:

We are seeking a talented Media and Publicity Manager to lead our public relations (PR) strategy. In this pivotal role, you will enhance our visibility and impact by managing media relations, celebrity engagement, and public-facing PR campaigns to raise awareness of speech, language, and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

PR Strategy and Execution

• Develop and execute strategic PR plans to maximize visibility and meet/exceed agreed targets.
• Secure media coverage and engage with celebrities and public figures.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with media contacts and celebrity supporters.

Media and Celebrity Engagement

• Lead initiatives to engage celebrities and influencers for long-term support.
• Collaborate with internal teams to ensure PR campaigns align with organizational goals.

Team Collaboration

• Work closely with the Head of Digital, Engagement, and Communications, and other departments, to identify and maximize PR opportunities.
• Support and train media spokespeople to deliver key messages effectively.

Monitoring and Reporting

• Maintain accurate records of media and celebrity interactions.
• Evaluate PR activities and outcomes to optimize future campaigns.

What we are looking for:

• Professional qualification in PR/Communications.
• Proven success in securing national press coverage and working on high-profile media campaigns.
• Experience with celebrity engagement and producing PR materials for both print and online platforms.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong knowledge of media outlets and press opportunities.
• Ability to lead PR strategies and deliver impactful campaigns.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, media databases, and online evaluation tools.

The Head of Philanthropy will secure and cultivate major donor relationships, growing our existing giving programmes and helping to deliver our overall fundraising strategy. With the Development Director, they will continue to build our prospect pipeline to support Assisted Places fundraising.

Additionally, there may be involvement with a small number of other discrete fundraising projects. Community is a vital part of our schools’ ethos and the Head of Philanthropy will play their part in strengthening this ethos. Many of our major donors will support the schools in other ways, including through our vibrant careers network (CareersLink). The Head of Philanthropy will also embed themselves in school life by playing a leading role in our annual telethons, working with the Development Director and Database Manager to deliver this.

The Head of Philanthropy will be an experienced and highly motivated fundraiser with a passion for growing and cultivating our supporter base. They will be a firm believer in the aims of our Assisted Places programme and in the value of an independent education. The role would suit an articulate, tenacious and persuasive fundraiser, with a strong track-record of forging and cultivating long-term relationships. They will have up-to-date knowledge of charity legislation and best practice.
