JOB PURPOSE

The Senior Manager, Partnerships role makes a vital contribution to our objective to bring about transformative change for children. The key focus of this role is to secure income generation from Trusts, Foundations and Institutional Funders. The team is set to raise over £3.2 million in 2024 and has ambitions to grow this further in future years.

As Senior Manager, Partnerships you will identify, cultivate, secure and steward major gifts from existing and prospective donors who can support Lumos, usually at the five or six figure level. In your role you will build and foster positive relationships with grant-making organisations and institutions (bi-laterals and multilaterals), providing excellent stewardship and account management and drafting compelling and comprehensive proposals and reports.

You will work with colleagues and stakeholders in the Fundraising and Engagement Team as well as across our global organisation, including the Executive Leadership Team, Programmes Team, Country Teams and our Board of Trustees to effectively cultivate prospective partners, support existing partnerships and prioritise and progress opportunities.

KEY OBJECTIVES

Income generation:

• Pro-actively research and cultivate relationships with donors, especially Trusts, Foundations and Institutional Donors.

• Work with the Head of Partnerships, Director of Programmes, Chief Executive, Country Teams as well as existing supporters to maximise their networks and introduce new partnerships to Lumos.

Relationship management and stewardship:

• Provide exceptional relationship management and execute tailored cultivation and stewardship plans for prospective and existing donors. • Develop high quality communications for donors, including proposals, reports and stewardship materials.

• From time to time, represent Lumos at events and meetings to grow our network of supporters and contacts.

• Work collaboratively to strategically manage and maximise funding opportunities.

• Work with Fundraising and Programmes colleagues, via regular structured communication, to identify synergies between organisational priorities and funding opportunities and trends, and to develop funding propositions, detailed financial information and reports.

• Use the Salesforce database to maintain accurate records of opportunities, income, donor communication and interactions and to monitor prospecting activity and progress towards KPIs.

Other responsibilities:

• Keep abreast of fundraising trends and challenges, and the legal and regulatory environment.

• Manage, monitor and report on income against targets and contribute to monthly, quarterly and annual reporting to ELT and Trustees.

• Contribute towards annual planning and strategy development with the wider team.

Location: Remote (UK) or hybrid based in our HQ in Truro, Cornwall. Regular travel to London and occasional travel within the UK will be required.

Role Purpose

Sitting within our high-performing Philanthropy & Partnerships team, this role is responsible for growing and diversifying ShelterBox’s partnerships with the private sector.

You will work with the Corporate Partnerships Officer to manage our growing portfolio of existing partners, ensuring each feels valued, engaged and inspired to continue supporting ShelterBox’s lifesaving work. You will also inherit a strong pipeline, and lead on unlocking new long-term, multi-faceted and strategic partnerships. 

This role has line management responsibilities for the Corporate Partnerships Officer and reports directly to the Head of Philanthropy & Partnerships. The wider team is made up of a Philanthropy Manager, a Trusts & Foundations Manager, a Stewardship and Research Officer, and a Philanthropy & Partnerships Assistant.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a creative, proactive and driven individual who will play a key role building strong relationships with decision-makers within businesses to help us deliver emergency shelter to the most vulnerable people hit by conflict, disaster and climate crisis.

You must be confident in presenting a compelling case for support, both in writing and verbally, and be able to build relationships easily, both externally and internally. Ideally you will have experience within a Corporate Partnerships or high-value fundraising team, although this is not an essential requirement.

Duties will include but not be limited to:

Relationship management

· Personally manage relationships with ShelterBox’s most valuable partnerships: building and developing strong personal relationships, maximising their support and negotiating renewals.

· Work with and support the Corporate Partnerships Officer to effectively manage and steward their portfolio of accounts.

· Seek opportunities to uplift and add value to partnerships by having a thorough understanding of ShelterBox’s work, networks and funding needs.

· Create and deliver stewardship and communication plans to ensure our corporate partners’ key stakeholders and staff feel part of ShelterBox; providing them with inspiring stories, unique staff engagement opportunities, and strong impact reporting.

· Deliver first-class grant management when securing restricted income (including tracking pipeline, contracting, reporting requirements etc.)

New business

· Proactively network, attend relevant industry events and conferences, and work with the Philanthropy Advisory Board and other connectors to expand ShelterBox’s connections within target sectors.

· Work closely with the Stewardship and Research Officer to identify potential new high impact partners, and develop strategies and tactics to engage.

· Develop bespoke cultivation plans for prospect partners currently in the pipeline, utilising varied and creative approaches to engage new audiences.

·support the Stewardship and Research Officer and Philanthropy & Partnerships Assistant with due diligence screening, ensuring our corporate partners closely align with our Ethical Partnership Policy.

· Develop detailed proposals, strong pitches and packages for support, by working collaboratively with teams across the organisation, particularly ShelterBox’s International Programme Department and Brand & Content teams.

· Deliver memorable and engaging presentations and pitches to a wide variety of audiences to inspire support for ShelterBox’s mission.

Strategy, engagement and data

· Working with the Head of Philanthropy & Partnerships, to refine and implement the Corporate Partnerships Strategy.

· Work towards an agreed income target and support the management of the Corporate Partnerships budget.

· Work with ShelterBox’s Learning and Development team to shape and deliver our training and staff engagement offering for corporate partners.

· Prepare for and manage emergency fundraising appeals to corporate audiences in response to major disasters.

· Develop and coordinate events to deepen corporate partners’ engagement, and contribute to the delivery of wider Philanthropy & Partnerships events.

· Maximise the benefits of the CRM to create and implement cultivation and stewardship journeys for corporate partners, keeping records updated and following Data Protection rules.

· Keep up to date on developments and trends in international development, with particular focus on the disaster response and emergency shelter sectors.

Team

-  Line management of the Corporate Partnerships Officer, ensuring personal growth plans, objectives and success indicators are in place.

· Build excellent relationships with colleagues across ShelterBox in the UK and internationally.

· Act as a subject matter expert (SME) to provide knowledge and expertise in private sector partnerships with the wider ShelterBox team (UK and global affiliates)

· Be active in the fundraising sector, know and follow the latest fundraising legislation and codes of practice, seek out peer learning and peer mentoring opportunities, network and contribute.

· Undertake other reasonable duties as may be required.

Main responsibilities

· Development and implementation of a fundraising strategy including a portfolio aimed at generating in the region of £500,000 per annum, building on existing fundraising activities and developing new fundraising initiatives.

· Explore and increase our income from grant giving trusts and foundations. At times working in fundraising partnerships with support of external consultants and colleagues across the wider Trussell Trust network

· Implement a CRM system to oversee the above aspects.

· Share best practice and learning from other charities across the Trussell network.

· Support our partnership work with other Trussell based foodbanks in Surrey to address poverty.

Through this new organisational role, you will proactively create and grow fundraising income opportunities with individuals, community groups, the faith sector and grant giving trusts and foundations. Through your fundraising expertise, you will have a proven track record of building relationships with individuals, community groups, trusts and foundations and other donors to achieve and exceed annual income targets. We are excited to be recruiting a Philanthropy Manager to join our Fundraising Team. This is a new role which will be instrumental in setting us up well to grow income from major donors over the coming years. Overview of the role

What you will do as part of our team

Strategic Planning

• Work with the Head of Fundraising & Major Donors and the other Fundraising Managers to refine and develop our established fundraising strategy to maximise income from events, community fundraising and corporate partnerships against an annual target.
• Develop our annual programme of events, including cultivation, stewardship and fundraising events, whether virtual or physical.

Events Management

• Overall responsibility for the design, planning and implementation of all Glass Door events, including our flagship fundraising event, the Sleep Out in the Square, and our annual supporter thank you event.
• Conduct an evaluation after each event, considering its successes, factors which could be improved and any recommendations moving forward.
• Oversee the Fundraising Officer as they support with the co-ordination and implementation of events.
• Ensure health and safety is at the core of all event planning and implementation.
• Manage our challenge events portfolio and identify new opportunities which could increase Glass Door’s income

Corporate Partnerships

• Pitch for corporate support including commercial partnerships, charity of the year relationships and sponsorship.

• Develop a Corporate prospect pipeline, reengaging lapsed donors from our database, and identifying new prospective partners.

Community Fundraising

• Experience managing complex events delivering six figure income targets
• Demonstrable success in securing income from a range of fundraising streams, including corporate, events and community

You will have a sound retail management experience, which will ideally be from a multi-site environment; you will have shown in your experience an ability to achieve budget, revenue, cost and profit targets as well as KPI's. You will be an outstanding leader who can bring team building and organisational strengths to your team alongside ensuring that the very highest standards of presentation and customer services are upheld throughout your area – your aim will be to make your store's the best in town, for customers to visit and for your colleagues to work in.

We have seen significant growth over the past few years and have built a network of engaged supporters.  As we launch our new three-year strategy, we are recruiting an experienced major donor fundraiser to play a key role in the growth of our philanthropy programme, securing and developing relationships with high-net-worth individuals that change the story for children. ​
 

Job Description​

Delivering the Philanthropy plan​

• Work with the Senior Philanthropy Lead and Head of Fundraising to grow the major donor portfolio within the wider strategy ​
• Build and maintain a portfolio of existing and new major donors who give or can give £15,000 or more, ensuring a first-class cultivation and stewardship journey​
• Line manage the Philanthropy Executive and support their professional development, providing direction, support and guidance​
• Work with our Prospect Research & Administration Intern to identify new potential Bookmark major donors, working with trustees, staff, and our wonderfully supportive Partnerships Board to secure introductions and make asks of prospective supporters​
• Lead on philanthropy events, working with the wider team in delivering income generating, cultivation and stewardship activities ​
• Create compelling, relevant and tailored funding proposals, reports and collateral to inspire and inform donors, reflecting Bookmark’s strong brand​
• Work closely with the rest of the Fundraising team to ensure opportunities to maximise income for the fundraising team​

• Devise and deliver annual plans, together with associated budgets, in line with the charity’s strategic objectives​
• Work with the Senior Leadership Team, Chair of Trustees and colleagues across the charity to ensure major donor fundraising activity is aligned with the charity’s wider plans and objectives​
• Use Salesforce to manage the accurate recording and forecasting of major donor income, enabling efficient reporting and KPI management ​
• Ensure that all activity helps to build Bookmark’s brand and is always brand compliant​​
• Ensure Bookmark’s ethical fundraising policy is adhered to​

Person specification​

Essential​

• A successful track record in high value fundraising and acquisition, including a proven track record of securing five figure gifts, to meet or exceed targets​
• Experience developing relationships with high-net-worth individuals through all stages of the donor cycle​
• Experience working on successful charity events that meet fundraising targets​
• Great verbal communication skills, demonstrated by strong relationships with donors and colleagues. You will have the skills to influence, motivate and persuade people to donate​
• Demonstrable experience of writing successful, inspiring, emotive, and technically accurate cases for support and proposals tailored to a major donor audience​
• Experience growing and managing a pipeline, planning for your portfolio and increasing income​
• An understanding and ability to build budgets and work with financials​
• Experience using of Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint​
• Experience using Salesforce, or another fundraising database​

Desirable​

• Line management experience​
• Experience working with a fundraising board or high value committee​

Location:​  1-2 days per week based at the Bookmark office (London), with flexibility around home working for the remaining days.
Contract type:​ Permanent, Full Time​
Salary:​ £38,000 - £41,500 per annum
Hours:​ 37.5 hours (Monday to Friday). Flexibility around compressed hours and four-day week considered​.

The Supporter Engagement Manager will focus on increasing donations from individuals, essential to deliver the vision.

This is a unique fundraising role, aiming to engage supporters with work across heritage, culture, community and environmental programming. Your work will help us:

• Restore the Victorian Palace and improve the Park
• Deliver creative learning and wellbeing programmes
• Make our events programme more accesible to people on lower incomes or with disabilities
• Take forward our ambitious programme to reach Net Zero

We look to recruit a candidate excited to take responsibility for their own area of work as part of a small team. We will consider applicants with previous experience in fundraising / development or transferable skills and knowledge from customer facting roles in other sectors.

Key duties

1. Manage and develop relationships with a portfolio of individual supporters
2. Implement engaging supporter stewardship systems
3. Plan and deliver a year-round programme of supporter events
4. Plan and deliver individual giving campaigns
5. Manage the delivery of online and print communications and marketing materials that build a case for support with new and prospective individual donors
