Refugee Council – Philanthropy Manager

Refugee Council is seeking an experienced philanthropy specialist to develop and grow the Refugee Council’s Philanthropy relationships and programme and deliver an ambitious Philanthropy strategy.
Refugee Council is a leading charity supporting refugees and people seeking asylum to rebuild their lives in safety here in the UK. Providing practical, hands on support, their award winning services include welcoming refugees into local communities across the country, providing specialist children’s services – with a particular focus on refugee children who arrive here alone, helping people to navigate the asylum system, and supporting people to access housing and employment. Evidence from services is then used to also inform the charity’s leading policy and influencing work, including campaigning for a fairer and kinder refugee protection system. The charity works with more than 14,000 men, women and children every year.
As a result of growing need and increasing interest in Refugee Council’s work, the charity has ambitious plans to make a leap in impact, with investment in their Philanthropy Team to raise increased funds from key high value audiences.
This role will be a critical part of the Philanthropy & Partnerships Team and presents an exciting opportunity to grow Refugee Council’s established Philanthropy programme. The role will be responsible for delivering and creating bespoke development plans, supported by engaging cultivation and stewardship activities to secure increased funding from existing and new donors. It will also be a key point of contact for key Major Donors and high-profile supporters, patrons and ambassadors.
The position offers the opportunity to work alongside an engaged and well-connected Senior Management Team, supported by the Head of Philanthropy & Partnerships and a highly regarded and experienced Philanthropy Consultant to make the charity’s ambitions a reality.
To succeed, candidates will have experience of running a Philanthropy/major giving programme, with extensive experience of managing their own pool of donors, as well as a track record of securing five and six figure donations from high net-worth individuals. You will have extensive knowledge of the Major Donor landscape and your fundraising skills will be matched by your strategic planning and leadership abilities.
Refugee Council will provide the most moving and diverse case for support. Cases that encompass innovative external affairs campaigns aimed at engaging policy makers and the public.

JOB PURPOSE
The Senior Manager, Partnerships role makes a vital contribution to our objective to bring about transformative change for children. The key focus of this role is to secure income generation from Trusts, Foundations and Institutional Funders. The team is set to raise over £3.2 million in 2024 and has ambitions to grow this further in future years.
As Senior Manager, Partnerships you will identify, cultivate, secure and steward major gifts from existing and prospective donors who can support Lumos, usually at the five or six figure level. In your role you will build and foster positive relationships with grant-making organisations and institutions (bi-laterals and multilaterals), providing excellent stewardship and account management and drafting compelling and comprehensive proposals and reports.
You will work with colleagues and stakeholders in the Fundraising and Engagement Team as well as across our global organisation, including the Executive Leadership Team, Programmes Team, Country Teams and our Board of Trustees to effectively cultivate prospective partners, support existing partnerships and prioritise and progress opportunities.
KEY OBJECTIVES
Income generation:
• Pro-actively research and cultivate relationships with donors, especially Trusts, Foundations and Institutional Donors.
• Work with the Head of Partnerships, Director of Programmes, Chief Executive, Country Teams as well as existing supporters to maximise their networks and introduce new partnerships to Lumos.
Relationship management and stewardship:
• Provide exceptional relationship management and execute tailored cultivation and stewardship plans for prospective and existing donors. • Develop high quality communications for donors, including proposals, reports and stewardship materials.
• From time to time, represent Lumos at events and meetings to grow our network of supporters and contacts.
• Work collaboratively to strategically manage and maximise funding opportunities.
• Work with Fundraising and Programmes colleagues, via regular structured communication, to identify synergies between organisational priorities and funding opportunities and trends, and to develop funding propositions, detailed financial information and reports.
• Use the Salesforce database to maintain accurate records of opportunities, income, donor communication and interactions and to monitor prospecting activity and progress towards KPIs.
Other responsibilities:
• Keep abreast of fundraising trends and challenges, and the legal and regulatory environment.
• Manage, monitor and report on income against targets and contribute to monthly, quarterly and annual reporting to ELT and Trustees.

Role Purpose

Strategy, engagement and data

Strategic Planning

- Develop our annual programme of events, including cultivation, stewardship and fundraising events, whether virtual or physical.
Events Management

About the Role
The Lottery Manager will oversee all aspects of the development, management, and operation of the weekly lottery and its associated activities whilst delivering excellent customer service and stewardship to lottery players. You will also be responsible for the efficient day to day running of the lottery in order to achieve the targeted income levels in line with all relevant governance. The Lottery Manager should have excellent numeracy skills with an eye for detail.
You will be responsible for Implementing strategies to ensure lottery player participation grows year on year in line with the business plan.
About You
As Lottery Manager, experience in the third sector is desirable however not essential. Proven experience of working to and achieving financial targets as well as the ability to prioritise workload and meet weekly deadlines. Experience of working with Volunteers is also desirable.

Job Description
Delivering the Philanthropy plan
- Work with the Senior Philanthropy Lead and Head of Fundraising to grow the major donor portfolio within the wider strategy
- Build and maintain a portfolio of existing and new major donors who give or can give £15,000 or more, ensuring a first-class cultivation and stewardship journey
- Line manage the Philanthropy Executive and support their professional development, providing direction, support and guidance
- Work with our Prospect Research & Administration Intern to identify new potential Bookmark major donors, working with trustees, staff, and our wonderfully supportive Partnerships Board to secure introductions and make asks of prospective supporters
- Lead on philanthropy events, working with the wider team in delivering income generating, cultivation and stewardship activities
- Create compelling, relevant and tailored funding proposals, reports and collateral to inspire and inform donors, reflecting Bookmark’s strong brand
- Work closely with the rest of the Fundraising team to ensure opportunities to maximise income for the fundraising team

- Devise and deliver annual plans, together with associated budgets, in line with the charity’s strategic objectives

Person specification
Essential
- A successful track record in high value fundraising and acquisition, including a proven track record of securing five figure gifts, to meet or exceed targets
- Experience developing relationships with high-net-worth individuals through all stages of the donor cycle
- Experience working on successful charity events that meet fundraising targets
- Great verbal communication skills, demonstrated by strong relationships with donors and colleagues. You will have the skills to influence, motivate and persuade people to donate
- Demonstrable experience of writing successful, inspiring, emotive, and technically accurate cases for support and proposals tailored to a major donor audience
- Experience growing and managing a pipeline, planning for your portfolio and increasing income
- An understanding and ability to build budgets and work with financials
