Job Title: Support and Development Worker 

Department: England Service Team 

Reports to: Senior Support & Development Worker 

Salary: £28,471 (pro rata for Part-time)

Location: Home based – with travel across Teesside, County Durham, Northumberland, Cumberland and Tyne & Wear and neighbouring areas. Occasional travel across wider areas and nationally will be required. 

We are looking for someone who can cover the Teeside, County Durham, Northumberland, Cumberland and Tyne & Wear area. You will be home based but will be required to attend clinics, events and meet members one to one where necessary within your allocated area and occasionally across wider areas and nationally. 

Purpose of Job 

To deliver a high-quality service to and facilitate opportunities for individuals with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus and their families/carers through Shine membership.  To empower and enable members Living with the conditions to lead healthy and happy lives through greater independence, better condition management and by creating links to the Shine community across England. 

SHINE has just under 14,000 members with Spina Bifida and/or Hydrocephalus. This post will bring a real focus to the County Durham, Northumberland, Cumberland & Tyne & Wear area and will be an exciting opportunity to engage with members and develop and deliver the services we offer. 

Our Little Stars project for 0–12 year olds has been established for over 3 years supporting younger members and their families with their diagnosis and beyond. We also have a growing Teen membership known as FIRE (Friendship, Independence, Resilience, Equality) Working alongside our multi skilled, established team, you will be supporting members across all age groups and building on the great foundations already in place. 

Core role 

• To provide information to individuals, families, carers affected by Spina Bifida and/or Hydrocephalus including hard to reach communities living within your area. 

• To provide advice, support and guidance to enable people with Spina Bifida and/or Hydrocephalus to access the correct benefits to become financially stable, the right services to improve their health and well-being, and to better co-ordinate their support and independence through a variety of methods. This will include attending specialist clinics in the area to engage with them. 

• To refer individual members and/or their families/carers to the most appropriate source of expertise and support in Shine’s Health team and other designated leads within the organisation, or signpost to external agencies as appropriate. 

• To develop age-specific groups and peer support networks which will provide opportunities for people with Spina Bifida and/or Hydrocephalus to connect and interact, enabling social opportunities and to share experiences, support and learn from each other. 

• To work with and develop opportunities for Shine volunteers. 

• To contribute to the delivery of regional and national programme of events to Shine’s membership, based on identified need and interests, geographical location and age. These will be face to face and virtual events.

• To provide information to professionals working with those individuals and families affected by Spina Bifida and/or Hydrocephalus. 

• To raise greater awareness of Spina Bifida and/or Hydrocephalus amongst professionals, external organisations and the general public through presentations, training and attendance at professional events. 

• To actively promote membership of Shine to people with the relevant conditions. 

• To keep clear and accurate records for monitoring and evaluation using our Salesforce database system. 

• To work with other service, fundraising, marketing, trust and foundations colleagues and Shine’s membership to identify and seize potential fundraising opportunities for long-term sustainability of the work. 

• To prepare and keep up to date a directory of relevant contacts across the area and to share relevant information with colleagues. 

• To undertake administrative duties as required of the role. 

• Any other duties in line with the job role. 

Essential criteria 

• Ability to travel across the designated areas

• Flexible working hours. This may include some evenings and weekends 

• Ability to work from home 

• The ability to be motivated and work on your own initiative with lone working from home, whilst also travelling across the area and Region to be part of the wider dispersed team. 

• Full Enhanced DBS checks and referencing will be completed 

Experience and qualifications – essential 

• At least two years’ recent experience of delivering support and advice services 

• Experience of working with people of all ages with disabilities 

• At least two years’ experience of advising on one or more of the following: 

health and wellbeing; independence; benefits; education and learning; employment; developing friendships and social skills; reducing isolation; social care; housing

• Experience of developing and delivering opportunities to enable and empower people with disabilities to achieve their goals towards independence. 

Knowledge, skills and abilities – essential 

• Understanding of spina bifida and hydrocephalus and of the issues and challenges faced by people living with these conditions 

• Ability to work with people individually and to facilitate and run group activities and events 

• Excellent communication skills both verbally and written 

• IT literate with a good knowledge of computer systems and programmes (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and use of databases 

• A non-judgemental approach to working with people 

Experience and Qualifications – desirable 

• Hold a qualification in a health, nursing, social care or disability related field 

• Experience of working in the third sector in a paid or unpaid capacity

We are seeking a Therapeutic Practitioner to join our newly established Health Team. This specialist role will enhance our current provision and improve the quality and breadth of mental health support available to young people. The successful candidate will work within the Health Team, in collaboration with our partner organisation Camden & Islington Young People's Service, to deliver 1:1 emotional and practical support, assist in our drop-in service, and facilitate workshops for all young people experiencing homelessness.

You will specialise in helping young people improve their self-confidence while improving their understanding of difficult emotions such as anger. Additionally, you will focus on developing their thinking and practical skills, as well as coping and de-escalation strategies. Your work will aim to improve relationships among young people within the day centre, and continue to promote trauma informed working practices across New Horizon, so that all of our services are designed to address the psychological and emotional needs of young people who are unsafe or facing homelessness.

You will have the unique opportunity to contribute to the development of an important and innovative new role. You will be provided with your own theraputic support delivered by a highly experienced clinical psychologist and regular individual and group clinical supervision. Person Specification - 

Knowledge and experience
We are looking for candidates with demonstrable strategic financial leadership spanning organisational planning, budgeting, risk, and reporting. You will have:
• A recognised financial qualification. Excellent knowledge of charity financial management, procurement and contracting at a senior level is ideal but not essential.
• Experience of effective budget setting and implementing controls and processes to manage and monitoring budgets.
• Advanced understanding of risk management.
• Experience of improving policies and processes in comparable organisations.
• Success in delivering increased cost effectiveness.

Overseeing the delivery of these campaigns from briefing through to post-campaign analysis, as well as the development of new ideas to maximise the opportunities offered by this relationship.

You'll support the Marketing Manager and wider team in the day-to-day development, management and delivery of a number of fundraising campaigns. In particular our successful DRTV programme, managing the relationship with our telemarketing agency and support in planning and delivery of new creative.

You'll also:

• Managing our response handling agency to ensure effective conversion of response for our DRTV campaigns through regular monitoring and testing; providing training and development and analysing results regularly.
• Manage agency relationships; overseeing the management and development of any campaigns from briefing through to post-campaign analysis, collaborating with external partners, taking responsibility for resolving queries, trafficking all stages of the project and escalation of potential problems.
• Help develop and manage expenditure and income budgets. Help create the budget, to monitor monthly management accounts and key performance indicators and to undertake reforecasts as required.
• Regularly monitor, evaluate and analyse campaigns, providing regular results and recommendations for strategy development based on reviews and analysis.
• Liaise with team leaders and project managers in other departments to identify and implement new cross-working opportunities utilising specialist knowledge and experience in direct marketing.
• Remain up-to-date about developments in the external market-place and assess the suitability of new, innovative approaches for recruiting supporters to remain competitive.
• Take responsibility for ensuring that all supporter communications are consistent with the WaterAid brand, working closely with the International, Policy and Campaigns, and Communications teams.

About You:

• Successful track record of working in a direct marketing role, including proven experience of planning and executing campaigns across different channels, including digital.
• Experience of managing telemarketing, call handling and large-scale print campaigns
• Experience of managing creative development, including writing creative briefs, working with creative agencies, ensuring the correct sign off procedures are followed, and appropriate stakeholders consulted.
• Project management experience including identifying opportunities and managing through to implementation.
• Ability to work flexibly and independently, to manage varying competing priorities and meet strict deadlines with often changing priorities.
• The ability to work as part of a team and collaboratively with a diverse group to deliver cross-organisational projects or objectives.

MIND in Haringey and its partner Public Voice deliver the Haringey Community Collaborative, providing strategic leadership and capacity building for the borough’s Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS). MIND in Haringey and Public Voice are ambitious, committed and passionate in their support of the VCS, and the social impact that it collectively delivers for residents and communities every day.

The Haringey Community Collaborative service involves providing Haringey VCS: 

• One-to-one and group capacity building support

The Haringey Community Collaborative team is located across and employed by either Public Voice and MIND in Haringey. About You

A confident public speaker with strong presenting skills with the ability to present to a wide range of diverse community groups. Able to engage with people and have a good understanding of co-production.

Bradford Hospitals Charity are an award-winning charity who work in partnership with Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to deliver projects which make a real difference to patients and their families. The Charity fund projects and equipment which are beyond the scope of government funding, enhance hospital care and the patient environment, and they invest in the development and wellbeing of our staff.

Bradford NHS Trust is responsible for providing hospital services for around 500,000 people, and specialist services for some 1.1 million. Staff work over several sites, including Bradford Royal Infirmary, which provides the majority of inpatient services, and St Luke's Hospital, which predominantly provides outpatient and rehabilitation services.

The Role

You will be joining the Charity at an exciting time as they work towards the plan to become a fully independent Charity by 2025. You will be responsible for overseeing an ambitious fundraising strategy as well as leading the capital appeal to expand the neonatal unit.

A key element of this role will be to identify new opportunities to grow and develop new income streams, providing team leadership to Charity team and their activities to build the fundraising and grant-making capacity.

As Charity Director you will play a key role in developing new strategies and diversifying income streams as well as working closely with the Chair of the Charity to a devise a brand-new five-year plan for the Charity.

About you

You must have had significant experience of leading a small or medium sized charity or have been a senior manager within a larger charity, including demonstrable experience in leading successful change management and service developments as well as be able to demonstrate that you have successfully worked towards targets. Capital appeal experience would also be advantageous. You also need experience of devising and implementing a strategic fundraising plan.

Our Finance & Performance team are looking for a proactive and technically strong finance professional with a passion for making a difference to become the new Head of Financial Performance & Analysis in Birmingham. 

In this newly created role you will lead a team in the provision of high quality management information for internal and external stakeholders and provide business insights to drive financial performance.   

You will be responsible for the month end activities including production of the management accounts with analysis and commentary aswell as setting the financial planning framework and provision of financial performance reports.  You will also oversee the year end close, production of financial statements and external audit.

Main Purpose of Role: Identify, gather, and shape content & case studies suitable for wide-ranging comms channels, while effectively supporting the Comms team to deliver engaging comms across all channels. 

Main Responsibilities 

• Support the Head of Communications to develop and maintain the annual comms calendar/plan and work with teams to support its delivery. 

• Support PR & Communications Manager in gathering and sharing case studies from start to finish.

• Nurture relationships with clients and frontline workers as appropriate, with regular communication throughout the year - for example, thanking, sharing the Year in Review, sending Christmas cards. 

• Work closely with the Digital Manager to support our social media strategy and help manage social media channels day-to-day.

• Work closely with colleagues across both the Fundraising and Programmes teams to ensure their comms needs are supported effectively. 

• Manage and support events organised or supported by the Comms team - for example, the Annual Appeal launch event. 

• Work closely with the Heads of Communications to manage the delivery of the Appeal Hub. 

• Contribute to comms planning cycles, brainstorming sessions and any reporting required. 

• Support ongoing work on language, branding, and act as a custodian of the St Martin’s Charity brand. 

• Oversee the maintenance of the Content Warehouse and facilitate colleagues across the team to access the content required to support their work.

• Deputise for the Digital Manager in developing and publishing content for the Charity or Frontline Network websites. 

Person Specification 

Experience and Knowledge 

• Proven experience of creating digital content to use across a wide range of platforms and channels. 

• Proven experience of writing for different audiences for a variety of different media, including print and digital. 

• Previous experience of using Adobe products would offer an advantage. 

• Previous experience of working with people living in challenging situations, would offer a distinct advantage. 

Skills and Competencies  

• Can demonstrate a high level of excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively and efficiently with multiple stakeholders. 

• Can evidence an understanding of and a confidence in using a wide range of social media. 

• Can demonstrate a good eye for detail.
