Role Requirements

The Head of Health & Safety is the lead and designated “competent person” for all health and safety matters, including fire safety at The Children’s Trust underpinning the three key work streams: “safe care,” “safe workplace” (including occupational health and well-being), and “safe retail and (fundraising) events”. The role holder has the authority to require the immediate cessation of any unsafe working practices.

With experience of working in a complex environment, across a large and diverse workforce, you will be exceptionally organised with a high-level of attention to detail. You will naturally possess excellent inter-personal skills, and an ability to consult and positively engage with key stakeholders across the organisation.

We are looking for a Graphic Designer (maternity cover).

We’re looking for a mid-weight Graphic Designer to work in-house to create artwork for marketing and communications campaigns across a wide range of media, including print, digital, animation, and video. Working under the direction of the Senior Graphic Designer and within the Communications and Engagement team, the Graphic Designer will work across a range of different projects supporting the priorities of the charity.

This is a 6 months’ full time maternity cover role. This role is also a hybrid working role, where 40% of the role will be on campus based.

As a key member of our small, dedicated team, you will be instrumental in developing and marketing Icon membership while delivering exceptional customer service. Specific duties

Membership services

• Processing membership applications.
• Maintaining accurate membership records on the CRM system (Ready Membership).
• Responding to enquiries from prospective members, existing members, colleagues and the general public within agreed customer service timeframes.

Data management

• Effectively use data analytics to understand impact and success rates and deliver informative regular reporting against agreed KPIs.

Content and communications

• Working collaboratively with the wider Icon Team to develop the annual communications plan in line with the annual operational plan.
• Developing, commissioning and delivering the production of content for Icon’s website and Social Media channels in line with communications plan.
• Maintaining and updating Icon’s website in line with analytics data and communications plan.
• Developing and issuing Icon’s monthly internal and external email newsletters.

Marketing

• Contributing to the implementation of Icon’s Membership Growth Strategy by assisting with the development of recruitment campaigns.
• Supporting the implementation of marketing plans and promotional ideas.
• Supporting the development of Icon’s Social Media strategy and contribute to Icon’s Email Marketing strategy by utilising external newsletters to support broader advocacy work and marketing lead generation.

ABOUT GLAN

The Global Legal Action Network (GLAN) works with affected communities to pursue innovative legal actions across borders to challenge states and other powerful actors involved in human rights violations and systemic injustice. Our actions address the most pressing instances of human rights concern and they fall within the following themes: War and occupation; accountability and supply chains; environmental and economic justice; and migration and border violence.

Since our establishment in 2016, we have developed legal strategies directly addressing human rights impacts in over 23 countries and territories. Our cases include the successful legal challenge against imports of cotton produced with forced labour in Xinjiang (East Turkistan) into the UK on behalf of World Uyghur Congress and the climate case against 32 European States before the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights, brought on behalf of six Portuguese youth-applicants.

More recently, we have supported the preeminent Palestinian human rights organisation Al Haq, to rapidly challenge UK weapons exports to Israel due to the risk of these arms being used in violations of international law. 

ABOUT THE ROLE

As the Head of Strategic Communications at GLAN, you will spearhead the development and execution of a comprehensive communications strategy that amplifies GLAN's mission and impact on a global scale.

You will lead the strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation of all communications efforts to enhance the organisation's brand, increase public awareness, and support advocacy and fundraising initiatives.

A key part of your role will be to establish GLAN's voice and brand, ensuring it resonates with diverse audiences. You will lead on improving our website and communications style, producing high quality content and ensuring consistent and compelling messaging across all platforms.

By fostering strong relationships with key stakeholders, including the media, partners, and the affected communities we support you will play a crucial role in advancing GLAN's vision to challenge injustice through innovative legal strategies. 

Reporting directly to the CEO you will form part of the Senior Leadership Team to drive organisational growth & development; looking beyond your immediate communications responsibilities.

This is an exciting time to join GLAN. We are seeking a Head of Strategic Communications to build an ambitious communications strategy focused on some of the biggest human rights and climate change issues of our time. At this point in time, the team is small with some budget to work with external freelancers, consultants or agencies. We are looking for someone to grow with GLAN; joining us with a communications team of two and developing your team in the years to come. You should recognise that in the short to medium term, the role will involve some hands-on responsibilities until such time that we can expand the team.

KEY RESPONSIBITIES

Communications Strategy

• Align cross-media communication strategies with thematic goals to maximise success across all initiatives. Develop campaign & advocacy communications which will influence change.
• Collaborate with project delivery teams across GLAN to ensure a consistent calendar of communications, highlighting all key areas of work.
• Lead and mentor a high-performing communications and advocacy team, currently including a Campaigns Coordinator.
• Create and manage the departmental budget in alignment with the overall communications strategy.
• Utilise data and insights to map and analyse audience behaviour, informing and optimising communication activities.
• Monitor and evaluate the success of campaigns, tracking performance against strategic KPIs.

GLAN brand

• Oversee the review and redesign of the organisation's website to enhance user experience and engagement.
• Champion and promote the use of GLAN's brand among colleagues, fostering a unified brand identity.
• Develop a strong brand presence and establish comprehensive brand guidelines that reflect GLAN’s core values, emphasising the voices of affected communities in all communications. 

Senior Leadership Team (SLT)

• Serve as a key member of the senior management team, contributing to strategic decision-making and organisational planning.
• Represent the organisation externally at events, conferences, and meetings.
• Prepare communications updates and reports to the Board and relevant committees Work with SLT to improve impact measurement across GLAN.
• External stakeholders Be a Face of GLAN; building & cultivating tactical relationships and networks
• Develop a robust relationship management system to enhance engagement with key press contacts, partner organisations, related networks, and other critical stakeholders.

GENERAL RESPONSBILITIES

• Undergo ongoing training to stay updated with changes and new developments in the legal field.
• Always conduct yourself in an ethical and professional manner. Adhere to all company policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

A degree or equivalent professional experience in a relevant discipline.

• At least 5 years’ experience in a senior communications position with overall responsibility for organisational strategy design and delivery
• Experience in developing and implementing campaign based communications strategies, advocating and influencing change Line management and team development including KPI setting in line with strategy
• Brand identity and development Experience of maximising campaign success and creating compelling media assets on a small budget

Working across projects you will support D/deaf and Disabled people to have choice and control over their life using a holistic approach. This role is a mixture of supporting Disabled people to express their views and wishes, and ensuring their rights are upheld through Advocacy support and providing advice across topics such as Housing and Benefits.

We are looking for a qualified finance professional to join our friendly team in the post of Head of Finance & Corporate Services as we develop our systems, infrastructure, and income streams to secure our long-term sustainability. Central to the success of our strategy is an efficient finance function providing timely management information and strong financial controls.

You will be an astute finance professional who is able to provide sound financial advice as well having a strong grip on day-to-day financial operations. You will also ideally have experience of HR, IT, and administrative functions, and will assume company secretary responsibilities, enjoying direct liaison with our Board of Trustees.

Founded in 2007, KHULA Education is an award-winning South African NGO working in partnership with rural schools and underserved communities in deep rural South Africa to ensure children and youth can access a quality education and economic opportunity.

Over the past 17 years, KHULA has transformed schools that were previously failing into schools that compete at the national level; supported hundreds of young people to access tertiary education opportunities; and helped hundreds more on the path to employment. Each year, we support over 6,500 children, youth and more than 300 teachers. 

About the Role

We are seeking to recruit a creative and ambitious Fundraising and Communications Officer.

As our reach and impact has increased significantly in recent years, so has our income, and this new role has been created in response to that demand.  This is an exciting opportunity for a fundraiser who wants to widen, or consolidate, their knowledge and experience of fundraising, in an international context, as well as gain communications experience.

We are a very small team so the role will cover a breadth of funding streams, with a particular focus on Trusts and Foundations, High Value Donors, and Events, both special and community.  It is therefore important that you have excellent writing and interpersonal skills, and solid experience of crafting successful funding applications.  You will also need excellent planning and organisational skills.

The role can, to some extent, be shaped by the skills and experience of the successful candidate, but it is likely to include the following responsibilities.

 Key Responsibilities

• Steward, retain and grow the support of our existing donor portfolio: KHULA has an existing portfolio of donors including trusts, foundations, corporates, major donors, individual and regular givers, the majority of whom are based in the UK or South Africa. Alongside the Director of Fundraising and Communications, the post holder will be responsible for managing these relationships, including bespoke reporting for trusts and major donors and taking responsibility for their own portfolio of donors.
• Donor prospecting and new business: researching and generating new donor leads as well as acting on opportunities provided by our Board and others, converting prospects into supporters of our programmes.
• ​​External communications: working alongside the Director of Fundraising and Communications, assisting in the creation of our quarterly e-newsletter and the Annual Report, managing our social media channels, in addition to other ad hoc external communications.
• Events: supporting our community and events fundraisers and assisting with the organisation of occasional special events, alongside Board members.
• Fundraising innovation: assisting in the development of creative campaigns to increase donations/recruit lapsed donors, developing products and offerings.
• Financial management and admin: maintaining our donor database and contributing to fundraising budgets and forecasts. 

Person Specification

Experience of working in a smaller charity and team is beneficial as this is a very hands-on role, covering a wide range of responsibilities.

We are particularly interested to hear from candidates who demonstrate most/all of the following attributes:

• A proven, demonstrable track record of submitting successful funding applications.
• Experience in successfully fundraising from one or more of trusts, foundations, high value donors and corporates.
• Experience of community and events fundraising, including promoting events and supporting participants.
• Excellent communication writing skills.
• Personal or professional experience of a range of social media channels.
• Good IT Skills (Microsoft Office, Mailchimp, CRM systems (we use Donorfy))
• Self-motivated and able to work autonomously with a largely virtual team 

Tommy’s is the largest UK charity researching the causes and prevention of pregnancy complications, miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth. Is looking for a motivated individual with strong communications skills to lead their Research Team.

We have a clear ambition at Tommy’s to stop the heartbreak and devastation of baby loss and make pregnancy and birth safe – for everyone. The charity funds high-quality research into the causes and treatments of baby loss and complications, to save babies' lives. In addition, we also provide trusted pregnancy and baby loss information and support.

Tommy's is at an exciting time with a new strategy and delivering against it to reach our goals. We need an exceptional and motivated individual to lead our research function. The post holder will ensure that our £2 million annual research spend funds the best work.  They will lead funding, governance, public and patient involvement and work closely with the Director for Research, Programmes and Impact to support strategic delivery.

The Head of Research will understand the research landscape and the processes required for research funding and governance.  They must also understand the role that the Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC) has in supporting this.  The post holder will be a strong communicator who can build relationships at all levels, both internally and externally, and work effectively to deadlines and under pressure.
