Job purpose

This is a pivotal role created to support an ambitious £80m fundraising appeal that will culminate in the creation of the new Royal Free London Cancer Centre.

The RFL, is one of the busiest cancer services in London, combining local care for a population of 2.5m with specialist services relied on by patients from all over the UK and beyond. By 2030, the number of people diagnosed with cancer in north central London is forecast to increase by 42% to 66,000 as the population ages.

The RFL urgently needs to increase its diagnostic, treatment, research and development capacity to meet the needs of our patients. In response, the Royal Free Charity is preparing a major fundraising appeal to support:

•  the capital costs for the construction and equipping of a dedicated centre
• the delivery of cancer-related support services.

The campaign communications manager will support the activities of our fundraising directorate in the private phase (Autumn 2024 onwards) and the launch of the public phase of our appeal in early 2026.

The postholder will be responsible for developing and executing strategic communication plans to engage philanthropists, existing supporters, grateful patients, stakeholders and the public. It promises to be a varied and rewarding role in a small but highly collaborative and friendly team.

The role will report to our head of communications and work closely with the campaign director and colleagues in our fundraising directorate and with key clinical leads in the RFL.  

The role is ideally suited to someone who is comfortable working across strategic planning and operational delivery, relishing the opportunity to translate plans into activity.

Engagement and communications department

The communications team is responsible for keeping our supporters and local residents informed about the difference we make to the patients and staff of the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust.

We celebrate achievements and promote the charity and its successes to the world. We manage our digital presence through a range of channels including our website, our social media platforms and email marketing.

The objectives of the post are to: 

• develop and deliver the overarching communications and engagement plan for the cancer campaign
• work with the campaign director and colleagues in our fundraising directorate to support the development and delivery of donor-specific communication plans
• work with the campaign chair and campaign board members to promote the campaign in sectors where they are seeking to raise significant funds i.e. tech, finance, banking, media etc
• work with the campaign director and relevant agency to produce campaign materials and ensure the patient voice is represented in the appeal
• embed and champion the campaign brand to ensure consistency across all communications
• develop and maintain a campaign web presence, ensuring it is regularly updated with relevant content
• identify opportunities for thought leadership, including long-read articles and guest blog posts
• identify opportunities to update our supporters on progress
• share in the delivery of internal communications activity to ensure our staff and volunteers are well-informed ambassadors for the campaign
• share in the delivery of engagement activity with our online followers and supporters, responding in a timely and positive manner to comments and messages
• produce a wide range of communication materials including, but not limited to, reports, case studies, press releases and supporter information

• manage the storing of content and related consent on our digital asset management system

• provide ad-hoc support to the communications team including, but not limited to, crisis response and reputation management incidents

• represent the charity at events, conferences and meetings as needed

The Project Manager - Child Poverty will oversee projects aimed at reducing child poverty, particularly focusing on initiatives that tackle child hunger and provide necessary support services. This role involves managing partnerships with charities, planning and executing support initiatives, and engaging with community stakeholders to drive impactful change.

Financial Management:

· Day to day management of the organisation’s financial and administrational activities, ensuring that appropriate systems are in place to receive and make payments, and to monitor financial performance of both the charity and the trading subsidiary

Purpose of Role: 

Reporting to the Supporter Care Manager, you will deliver excellent customer care to supporters and potential supporters of Operation Smile UK. As an integral part of the Supporter Care team, you will successfully support the Individual Giving programme and wider fundraising activities, providing support to ever increasing income and supporter stewardship for the delivery of increasing levels of unrestricted income for Operation Smile UK.

Key Responsibilities:

• Be the first point of contact for existing supporters and new supporters who respond to our fundraising activities by phone, email, letter or in person, letter, or email delivering outstanding supporter care
• Liaise with supporters in timely communication via email, phone, and mail with excellent customer care
• Priority is to answer incoming phone calls and escalate any difficult situations/complaints to Supporter Care Manager
• Support processing incoming phone and postal donations
• Assist with banking and processing incoming/outgoing post
• Be responsible for thanking our supporters including by letter, email and phone, despatch of information and fundraising materials

• Programme Management Oversight and Line Management: Directly manage three Programme Managers, ensuring efficient and effective day-to-day delivery of a range of national programmes. Work closely with senior colleagues ensuring coherence in programme management and delivery.

The Senior Programme Manager will have proven operational programme management experience and strategic knowledge of the development and delivery of education programmes focused on children and young people. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with a range of key individuals and partner organisations, manage expectations effectively, and the ability to respond to differing needs. You will be a strong team player and an effective delegator in order to oversee the successful outcome of projects. You will be operationally, politically and commercially astute with operational and financial skills, and should be able to demonstrate your success in complex project management alongside an understanding of the challenges that face educational settings.

The role is homebased with some to the London (Russell Square) office, usually once a month. The role is full time (37.5 hours) and the successful candidate will be available 5 days a week. Due to this being a maternity cover, the role will need to start in July 2024. The post will be subject to satisfactory references.

Trusts and foundations manager

As a charity that has been working on social justice issues for over 150 years, we have established a strong base of support from trusts and foundations. We now want to expand beyond that base to new grant-giving organisations, particularly those that are interested in the specific needs and issues that each of our services address. We are looking for someone with a strong track-record in securing grants, who is confident in managing all areas of the role from researching and prospecting, writing compelling applications and reports, to nurturing relationships. As part of a small but ambitious charity, you will also be comfortable with managing the pressures of the role and have the flexibility to respond to new opportunities and challenges as they arise.

Individual giving manager

We have developed a strong and supportive community of committed supporters who give generously through direct donations and legacies. We now want to explore ways of maximising income from our supporter-base and engaging new donors. We are looking for someone with a strong track-record in individual giving with experience of maximising income through targetted appeals and engaging new donors. You will be a natural communicator, with excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to inspire and galvanise.

The Trust & Foundations Development Manager will play a key role in enabling the optimisation of the Charity’s net income from UK and global Trusts, Foundations and Lottery funding sources. This will enable the funding of the Charity’s key projects and programmes in the lead up to and beyond the 100th anniversary of the BBC Radio 4 Appeal in 2026, directly impacting the lives of those at risk of and experiencing homelessness. 
The post holder will also ensure the highest quality of stewardship and donor care are maintained to drive committed partnerships. Key duties include: 

• Work with the Head of Leadership Giving to further develop the Charity’s Trust and Foundations fundraising strategy, maximising sustainable net income from both general and restricted Trust and Foundation funding sources, and capitalising on opportunities afforded by the 100th anniversary of the BBC Radio 4 Christmas Appeal in 2026. 

• Acquire an excellent knowledge and understanding of the Charity’s values and programmes, working collaboratively across the Charity to create bespoke donor materials and cases for support that interest, engage and motivate to give. 

• Develop a pipeline of new funding opportunities from both UK and global Trusts and Foundations, whilst developing relationships with existing funders. 

• Take a lead role in the management of successful grant applications to ensure that reports to funders are delivered in a timely and effective manner, reviewing narrative and financial reports to ensure donor requirements have been met, and consulting with and ensuring input from relevant technical and financial staff. 

• Collaborating with the Head of Leadership Giving to ensure that resources and budgets are managed effectively. 

 
We’re looking for the following skills and experience for this role: 
  

• Substantial experience of identifying, negotiating and securing significant new partnerships from large scale Trusts and Foundations based in the UK and globally. 

• Excellent track record of developing existing Trust and Foundation partnerships through excellent account management techniques. 

• Experience of developing compelling audience focused cases for support to drive engagement and long-term value from Trusts & Foundations, Lottery and where appropriate, Institutional funding sources. 

• Proven experience working with senior volunteers, influencers or advisers to achieve Trust and Foundation fundraising success either in peer-led fundraising (such as development boards) or peer-peer fundraising (such as giving networks) or by working in partnership with senior stakeholders on individual approaches. 

• Experience of deploying prospect research to support the development of relationships with target trust and foundation funding sources. 

• Interest and/or understanding of the issue of UK homelessness and the grant funding landscape in relation to those organisations and NGOs seeking to impact upon it.

Role Overview:

Due to high number of non-UK nationals sleeping rough in London, there has been a need for a supported reconnection and resettlement service for Romanian nationals, with a focus on working with Roma people. On this basis, the Acasa Service was created to fill this gap. It is a voluntary reconnection service that assists people to reconnect to Romania, where clients have support finding employment, accommodation and accessing welfare services.

We are searching for a suitable Romanian speaking candidate to fill the role of Deputy Manager in our London office. The appointed candidate will join our team of professionals on a full-time (37.5 hours a week), 6 month fixed term contract with possibility of extension.

As the appointed personnel, you will work with Westminster Rough Sleeping services to identify clients who wish to return and are suitable to be referred into the service. You will also assess referrals to ensure prospective clients meet Acasa eligibility criteria, then help them to prepare to reconnect.
