More than one in four children are growing up in poverty in the UK. It doesn’t have to be this way. The new UK government has announced its plans to develop a strategy to tackle child poverty, something that Child Poverty Action Group has led the way in calling for. 

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced fundraising professional to play a pivotal role in delivering change for the 4.3 million children growing up in poverty. You will have a demonstrable track record in securing six figure and multi annual grants primarily from trusts, foundations and/or the National Lottery.

You will have the ability to work confidently as a creative and analytical problem solver, and a hands-on fundraiser. CPAG’s fundraised income has grown significantly, and the team raises nearly £3 million annually.

You will be responsible for managing all aspects of fundraising income generation, and leading and supporting a small fundraising team. You will be able to build and nurture relationships with funders, donors and other stakeholders, and have excellent communication skills.

Your new company
I am delighted to be working with a Not-for-Profit organisation, and we are looking for an Associate Head of Policy and Public Affairs to head up the Policy, Public Affairs and Research team on a 6-9 month FTC. With a team of six sitting underneath you, in this short period of time, there will be some key deliverables that the charity will be looking at completing during your contract. This includes passing bills on the Online Safety Act, attending submits and launching a new Policy. Your new role
The successful candidate will:

• Provide direction, leadership and line management for the Policy and Public Affairs team.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues within the leadership team and across the organisation to contribute to the delivery of the strategy.
• Provide leadership as the charity responds to emerging opportunities and threats affecting children's safety online. This will include formalising interim and final policy positions to address reactive issues.
• Ensuring that the team's policy positions and influencing strategies are evidence based, high quality, impactful and support the strategic ambition to transform the online world so it is safe for children. This will include managing the finalisation and launch of our Generative AI policy position.
• Provide support, guidance and challenge to ensure the team delivers and launches cutting edge policy and research on online safety including risks posed by new and emergent technologies. This includes acting as a sounding board to help shape the team's policy, public affairs and research work.
• Maintain relationships with civil service, parliamentary and civil society stakeholders and leverage these to amplify our policy impact.
• Represent the charity on relevant internal and external advisory groups. This can include deputising for senior colleagues.

What you'll need to succeed

This position is ideal for someone who:

• Solid understanding of the public policy and regulatory opportunities and challenges relating to online safety (ideally, but not a necessity).
• Evidence of strong team leadership skills, with experience of line management and leadership.
• Demonstrable strategic decision-making skills, with experience of weighing up competing options and opportunities to deliver strategic objectives at a senior level in an organisation
• Excellent evidence-based policymaking skills, mixing strong analytical skills with the ability to understand the wider policy context to turn problems into practical, robust policy solutions.
• Experience of analysing, comprehending and responding at pace to complex policy and public affairs developments in a fast-moving external environment
• Experience of managing complex and competing priorities with a strong track record for delivery at speed and under pressure, responding to tight external deadlines.
• Strong interpersonal skills, including demonstrable experience of successfully building external influencing networks and dealing effectively and persuasively with senior internal stakeholders.

What you'll get in return

This FTC is available on a 6-9 month basis. Ideally, the successful candidate will start sooner rather than later to allow for a cross-over from the current post holder before and after they return from their extended period of leave. The salary is £52,084 - £60,271/annum (inc London weighting). Excluding London, the weighting salary is available upon request. Benefits include: 29 days annual leave, plus bank holidays, competitive pension contribution and salary assurance up to five times your salary.

- Track and update actions on governance issues for both Boards, i.e. signing of documents and declarations, producing letters of appointment, preparing Board papers on Trustee Issues and keeping the website updated.

- Responsible for personal data collection and support for recruitment and induction process for new Trustees

The capital campaign is a global effort to raise €100 million by 2028, funding the construction of a new ship and the environmental campaigns it will support. Person specification:

ESSENTIAL:

• Extensive experience of establishing and sustaining relationships with senior-level external stakeholders and/or funders.
• Cross-organisational collaboration experience, with a proven ability to work effectively with senior internal stakeholders, driving collaboration and strategic alignment.
• A strategic leader with experience overseeing high-value income streams.
• Expertise in relationship fundraising in the charity/NFP sector and a proven track record of delivering six-figure income from high-value donors.
• Demonstrable experience of leading, managing, motivating, and inspiring high-performing teams, including managing managers.
• Strong budget management skills and experience delivering against financial targets.

DESIRABLE:

• Capital campaign experience would be advantageous.
• Track record of securing seven-figure donations.

As Chief Operating Officer, you will manage and develop the diverse business operations of the Trust.

Key responsibilities include:

• Overseeing the delivery of the ten-year plan, most significantly, a multi-year project to re-establish a new visitor centre.

The successful candidate will have at least 5 years’ senior experience managing industrial and/or commercial operations, ideally within a related industry or a third-sector environment such as a charity or not-for-profit. Expertise in recognising and implementing business improvements and changes is key, as is the ability to lead a commercially focused, marketing-oriented function.

You must be confident, resilient and energetic, with proven ability to lead and engage staff and volunteers, helping them achieve their objectives. You will lead Woman’s Trust income generation ensuring adequate income to sustain and grow the organisation, increasing its income from £1.3 Million to £3 Million in the next 3 years. While raising funds from multiple income streams, focus growths areas will be statutory and Trust and foundation funding securing six-figure, multiple-year grants and contracts. You will effectively communicate our services and campaign our aims aligned to our strategic priorities.

You will oversee the development and implementation of the fundraising strategy and the funding pipeline; ensure the maintenance and development of excellent relationships with current and new funders, stewarding grants and reporting back; review, update and develop service budgets; oversee the submission or coordination of quality bids, approaches, and events.

As a member of the senior leadership team, this post will work cross departmentally and will contribute to the overall strategy of Woman’s Trust, working closely with the CEO and the Board of Trustees. You will lead and line manage the Senior Trust and Foundation Manager and Fundraising Officer.  You will deliver a direct income target for each year, with a focus on the development and tendering of statutory commissioning.

Hours: 35 hours per week (28 hours will be considered).

Location: Office based with remote working available – minimum of 50% of working hours in Woman’s Trust Office, Edgware Road/Paddington, NW1.

This role will support the Assistant Head of Events & Community Fundraising to generate income for the charity through the Sporting Events programme of walking, running and cycling activities. The postholder will lead on the delivery of a flagship walking event, with a key focus on co-creating and delivering a robust marketing plan, delivering the supporter journey to drive participant value, and ensuring that all stakeholders meet their deadlines to drive fundraising income. This role will report on operational plans and budgets to generate medium and long-term sustainable income, taking responsibility for team outcomes including financial and key result reporting. You will also use data to optimise performance and maximise return on investment throughout the portfolio of activity.

To be successful in the role of Sporting Events Manager, you will need:

• Excellent organisational skills and initiative to support complex activity streams, with ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced environment.
• Proven experience in delivering large scale fundraising events, with experience in project management, leading complicated programmes with multiple partners.
• Experienced people manager, able to motivate a team to deliver excellent results, with ability to engage with stakeholders and manage relationships to the most senior levels.

The Role
As CEO, you will report directly to the Board of Trustees and hold overall responsibility for the leadership, strategy, and administration of the charity. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of GMYF by:

• Overseeing the development and expansion of new clubs and services across Greater Manchester, including planning and executing the build of our new community centre and additional youth centres, ensuring they are equipped to meet the needs of the young people we serve.
• Driving the growth and success of our residential services and outdoor activities. You will ensure that our offerings comply with all relevant safety and educational standards, while working towards specific participation growth targets, including establishing a Gold-level Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) group.
• Maximising the use of our Ormside Mill Residential Centre, promoting it as a hub for outdoor education, affiliated club activities, and residential trips, while encouraging affiliated clubs to take an active role in organising their activities at the centre.
• Building and nurturing strong relationships with local authorities, council members, and community stakeholders, as well as acting as a public representative for GMYF to enhance our profile and secure additional funding and partnerships.

About You

We are seeking a candidate who combines strategic leadership with hands-on management experience, ideally within youth services or a related field. You will be a proactive leader, capable of developing and delivering long-term plans while remaining ready to "roll up your sleeves" and engage with the community when necessary.

Key Skills and Experience:

• Significant experience in a senior management role within youth services, outdoor education, or a similar sector, to include service development.
• A proven track record in leading organisational change, motivating teams, and fostering a positive culture.
• Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets, ensuring financial sustainability, and driving fundraising efforts, particularly in a charity setting.
• In-depth understanding of charity governance, regulatory requirements, and compliance, with the ability to navigate the complexities of public sector partnerships.
• Experience working with Boards of Trustees, providing strategic guidance, and ensuring effective governance.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels and represent GMYF with gravitas in the local area.
