We are recruiting our new Associate Director, Engagement (Major Gifts), to help shape the future of Thunderbird and ASU in the UK and Europe. As a member of a small but mighty team in the UK, you will work remotely with teams of skilled and dynamic colleagues based predominantly in Phoenix, Arizona, as well as others around the world.

About the Role
This role will play an active part in driving forward our exciting fundraising campaigns, events and community relationships. This involves a wide-range of tasks which will vary day by day, from helping at on-site events to the distribution of marketing materials, and from taking minutes to building good relationships with local supporters (including schools and universities, local groups and businesses, community champions and participants in challenge events).
We’re looking for someone who has a passion for great event experiences and customer service, is proactive and organised, adaptable, collaborative and solutions focussed.
The ideal candidate will enjoy:
- Making a difference – each campaign, event and relationship provides significant funds and awareness that will help provide homes, jobs, food and support to help people break the cycle of homelessness.
- Making it happen – getting stuck in, using problem-solving skills and a can-do attitude while maintaining the highest professional standard with good attention to detail.
- Building positive relationships, working with colleagues and supporters to maximise engagement.
This position will suit someone interested in a career in events or fundraising. The role will report into the Corporate Partnerships and Community Development Manager, working closely day-to-day with the Events specialist, Senior Executive for fundraising and challenges, and the wider Fundraising and Marcomms team.

We began as a small sandwich shop in Edinburgh in 2012, offering jobs and free food to people affected by homelessness. We’re now expanding our projects across the UK, on a collaborative mission – a movement to end homelessness.
We help people break the cycle of homelessness through innovative supported employment programmes (Jobs First) and housing solutions (Social Bite Villages) and give out over 165,000 items of free food year-round through our coffee shops and community networks.
We build lasting relationships, because we believe that through positive connections people can transform their lives. We are looking for a driven and passionate charity retail professional who is able to realise our exciting growth plans. The MS Society is embarking on an ambitious programme of charity shop growth and the right candidate will be instrumental in making our vision a reality. We’re very excited about what MS Society Retail is going to be doing in the next 2 years.
You’ll be an experienced charity retailer, with significant experience in managing and leading a diverse team. You’ll understand the key drivers behind charity shop success and how to optimise the MS Society’s retail portfolio to deliver that success.
You’ll be a confident speaker and presenter, bringing our business plan to life and inspiring our staff and volunteers to deliver our goals.
Importantly the right person for this role will be a committed charity retail fan, excited about the whole sector and the opportunities it offers to improve the MS Society’s income and engagement with the public and MS Community.
Please note this is a fixed term contract for 2 years.

You’ll be an experienced charity fundraising professional, with significant experience in managing and leading a disperse team of regional fundraisers.
You’ll be able to develop a strategic plan for local fundraising and have a clear focus on how to get the best out of your team to deliver it.
You’ll be a confident speaker and presenter, able to inspire staff and volunteers across the MS Society to get involved and take on a challenge. You’ll be comfortable working with budgets and numbers.
