Who are Women’s Aid?

Women’s Aid is the national charity working to end domestic abuse against women and children. We are a federation of over 170 organisations which provide just under 300 local lifesaving services to women and children across England. For almost 50 years we have campaigned on behalf of our members and survivors to shape policy and practice, and to raise awareness of domestic abuse. 

Purpose of the Interim Head of Training and Education role:  

The successful candidate will play an integral role in supporting the Training and Education function within Women’s Aid through a period of significant change, whilst maintaining a focus on the delivery of high quality training products to a diverse set of audiences.

Key duties and responsibilities of the Interim Head of Training and Education:

• Have oversight and hold strategic responsibility for the delivery of training and accredited education and qualifications that are developed and delivered by Women’s Aid.  
• Manage a team of skilled and qualified training officers, ensuring smooth and responsive delivery to a range of contracts and with a well evidenced and robust quality assurance and reviewing infrastructure.
• Work closely with the wider senior leadership team, to source and secure new business and funding to enable the organisation to sustain itself and further develop. 
• Support the existing initiative of building back and team development that is planned across the next six months.

• An experienced and agile senior manager with experience of supporting service through change in an interim context. 
• Demonstrable experience of designing, developing and delivery of accredited training in an income generating environment

Role Summary:

Global Health 5050 is seeking a hands-on Head of Operations to support the professional running of the charity. The successful candidate for this post is expected to play an integral role in contributing to the growth of GH5050, as well as taking a leading role in managing the day-to-day and longer-term operations of the charity.

We are looking for a motivated and proactive individual who is able to switch seamlessly between strategic thinking and in the detail execution. Role Responsibilities:

● Support the leadership of GH5050 and the key organisational management decisions that need to be made for the effective growth and operations of the charity.

● Ensure effective internal communications by facilitating clear, consistent, and timely information sharing across all team members.

● Own the candidate experience of our team from recruitment to onboarding, learning & development through to performance management and reward.

● Implement and maintain HR policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure legal compliance for a fair and equitable workplace, using external experts (currently Safe HR) as needed.

● Ensure the quality and effective operation of internal policies, including keeping core policies up to date, developing new policies, organising the review of existing policies.

● Maintain the risk register and monitor and deliver priority activities to mitigate risk.

● Own the implementation of a new organisation-wide programme management tool, ensuring seamless integration and securing team buy-in through effective communication and training initiatives.

● Support the Co-CEOs to engage with the board of trustees. Prepare documents for board meetings; liaise with trustees to fix dates and meetings; support the effective operation of board meetings; develop proposals for trustee engagement; take minutes of board meetings and follow-up on action points; support the recruitment and onboarding of new trustees to the board.

● Manage the operations functions including office rental agreements, our IT systems and providers, other suppliers of goods and services (insurance, HR, finance). Provide any other general operational and administrative support as appropriate, within the general scope and level of the post.

● Ensure that GH5050 complies with legal and other statutory regulations, including leading and managing Charity reporting requirements to the Charity Commission and other relevant bodies and undertakes ongoing risk assessments and proposed mitigation measures as required.

● Lead on Annual Returns to the Charity Commission in collaboration with the Finance Manager and Trustees and ensure timely and accurate reporting to HMRC.

● Work with Deputy Director and the Finance Manager on the management of the financial resources and project grants of the Charity, ensuring that all expenditure complies with funder and legal regulations.

● Direct line management of Finance Manager and Operations Executive. Support to ensure payroll, pensions, expenses, etc. are paid out in an accurate and timely manner and that new staff are enrolled in payroll / pensions etc.

Person specification: 

● Bachelors-degree qualification or relevant professional experience.

● Experience working in a similar or relevant role with a passion for the GH50/50 mission and where they can have impact.

● Experience in human resources, policy creation and GDPR.

● Experience engaging with NGO boards of trustees.

● Demonstrated proficiency in managing teams, some of whom are based remotely.

● Experience of working effectively in a team, with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build collaborative professional relationships with a wide range of partners across diverse contexts, including whilst working remotely.

● Experience working independently and flexibly. An ability to manage competing priorities and ensure projects are delivered on time and to a high standard. 

● Strong familiarity with MS Excel and proficient in using a wide range of software.

We are seeking a Head of Finance to lead on the charity's finances and accounts.

The Head of Finance has lead responsibility for overseeing the finance function of the organisation.  The role reports directly to the Chief Executive, is a member of the Senior Management Team (SMT) and works closely with the Board of Trustees and in particular with the Treasurer.  The post holder also has responsibility for the line management of the Finance Officer and the Feeding Service Administrator (Finance Team).

Working with SMT colleagues, this role leads on all financial reporting and analysis to the team and to the Trustee Board and Finance Committee, the preparation of monthly management accounts, budgets and forecasts.

The Head of Finance leads the annual audit and preparation of the annual report and accounts working closely with the Chief Executive, Treasurer and Chair of Trustees. In addition, the role supports the wider team in compliance with financial policies and procedures and acts as Finance Business Partner by providing support and guidance to budget holders.

About the team

Shelter Sheffield provide housing advice and support to people across the city with a focus on emergency homelessness, intensive support for children and families, people experiencing domestic abuse and people with multiple and complex needs. We take a holistic approach to help people deal with interrelated issues that can impact their ability to keep a home.

About the role

You will be the local leader for Shelter’s Community Services, leading a multidisciplinary team in implementing Shelter’s strategy locally, delivering the local response to the housing emergency and empowering the local community in Sheffield to fight for home.

You will take the lead on the delivery of services and contracts to provide consistently high levels of performance, and plan and deliver service development strategies, including seeking business development opportunities that align with our strategic aims, both across Community Services and in partnership with the Lead Solicitor.

As the strategic lead for your locality, you will promote and direct systems change activity, so we better understand what is influencing people’s experience of homelessness and bad housing, and so we have effective plans to influence change.

You will act as an ambassador for Shelter within your region, representing the organisation through media, networks, and local stakeholder engagement.

Alongside this, you will plan and implement resourcing plans for your Hub, including staffing, volunteers, and engaging people with lived experience, and will manage the Hub Leadership team. Ensuring there are multiple and ongoing opportunities for people with lived experience of homelessness and bad housing to be part of Hub development, activities, and learning is a key element of this role, as is upholding and promoting a learning culture with the Hub.

About you

A natural leader, who can inspire, support and motivate individuals, communities, and your own team to advocate for change, you will have a proven working knowledge of homelessness, housing and related issues affecting local communities. You will possess sound experience of managing and delivering contracts, partnerships, and services, and of being involved in implementing and reviewing change management, whilst demonstrating excellent budgeting and financial reporting skills.

The ability to proactively develop and maintain key relationships and having impressive analytical skills to use insight and evidence to present data, manage performance and to identify and implement systems change are vital to this role, as are impressive interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced finance and operations leader to join the senior management team of Access – The Foundation for Social Investment at a critical stage of our work. With a refreshed strategy, expanded team and extended life we are looking for someone to continue to lead our efficient finance and treasury function, as well as lead a range of enhancements to respond to the growth of the organisation across operations, HR, IT and Governance support.

About Access – The Foundation for Social Investment

We want to see a social investment ecosystem that works for all charities and social enterprises and through our programmes and our advocacy work, we ensure that charities and social enterprises can access the finance they need to sustain or grow their impact.

We target those most in need of patient and flexible investment through:

• Funding enterprise development and blended finance programmes in England.
• Sharing knowledge and data and translating it into practical insight that others can use.
• Mobilising others who share our goal of making capital work for communities.

Since 2015 Access has been tasked with distributing over £160m from the Dormant Assets scheme, Government and the National Lottery Community Fund. Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Strategic Vision:

• As part of the four strong senior leadership team (which also includes the CEO, Director of Partnerships and Advocacy and Director of Programmes), contribute to the overall direction and strategy of Access, and deliver on relevant areas of the organisation’s operational plan.

• Lead on projects to drive forward the internal aspects of Access’s equity, diversity and inclusion strategy.

Finance:

• Responsible for the financial planning of the organisation, including the development of annual budgets and long-term forecasts. Work with budget holders across the organisation to ensure the ongoing adherence and management to these budgets/forecasts across all programmes.
• Oversee financial systems that record and report on financial activities and provide information and projections to allow strategic and operational decision -making.
• Working with the Head of Finance to oversee payment, invoicing, bookkeeping and banking activities, maintaining up to date computerised records and maximising use of the accounting system (Twinfield).
• Oversee the relationship with Access’ external and group auditors and support the Head of Finance with the year-end process, external audit, preparation of annual financial statements and sign-off from relevant stakeholders.

Treasury Management:

• Manage the relationship with Access’ asset manager and ensure the endowment investment policy/strategy is being implemented, including in particular, adherence to Access’s stated impact goals for the endowment,
• Ensure high quality reporting on the performance of the portfolio from the asset manager.
• Oversee Access’s multiple banking relationships and the performance of our extensive cash deposits to balance the requirements of return, impact and liquidity.
• Support the advocacy and communication of the “total impact approach” taken by Access, sharing learning and influencing others in the development of their investment strategies.

Governance:

• Take overall responsibility for the Governance support processes and cycles at Access, including plans for regular business at board and committee meetings, members’ terms of office and recruitment of trustees and committee members.
• Ensure Access complies with statutory and legal requirements, including returns to Companies House and the Charity Commission.
• Oversee the management of up-to-date registers of interest for all board and committee members and senior staff.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB: 

As a key member of the leadership team, the Head of Operations (HOO) plays a vital role in the development and delivery of Cockpit’s strategic plan, working closely with the Chief Executive. The HOO will ensure operational excellence, site optimisation in Bloomsbury and Deptford and lead on property strategy. The role encompasses oversight of the maker community, management of IT systems, leading on HR and responsibility for health and safety compliance.

This role would suit an entrepreneurial self-starter with demonstrable experience in property and building management, project management, budget and fiscal control, HR and team management. Knowledge of planning, business and charity financing, leasehold and landlord-tenant legislation is desirable.  The role requires strong negotiation skills and the ability to exert influence and maintain critical relationships. It requires a keen focus on delivery and detail as well as the ability to retain big picture perspectives.  Exemplary communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities are essential. 

MAIN DUTIES: 

1 PROPERTY AND BUILDING MANAGEMENT 

Cockpit has two sites in Deptford and Bloomsbury. At each site, a Studio Manager has responsibility for the day-to-day running of the sites and liaison with makers.  The Studio Managers will report to the HOO who will coordinate, plan and/or oversee all the practical management of the buildings including repairs and maintenance; alterations and refurbishments; space allocations and use of space; health and safety; tenant/maker welfare/support etc. 

The HOO will manage the Studio complexes to ensure they meet the requirements of the charity and resident makers while ensuring commercial optimisation.

The HOO will ensure efficient use of space and consider charitable and commercial objectives when setting prices and rates to ensure a balanced outcome.  The HOO is responsible for ensuring compliance on all aspects of Health and Safety, insurance and risk assessment. 

The HOO is responsible for project managing all future real estate projects from inception to completion. They will ensure that sufficient resources, budgets and expertise are in place for such projects. The HOO will sit on Cockpit’s Property Committee. 

2 LEASES, INSURANCE, LEGAL, RATES AND LA 

With oversight from the CEO and Board, and relevant legal advice, the HOO will manage leasehold negotiations with Cockpit’s landlord, Camden Council.  The HOO will report on such matters to the Property committee of the Board.

Working with the CEO, the HOO will manage licences issued to studio holders developing pricing structures and documentation that reflect Cockpits charitable aims and commercial objectives. 

Working with the CEO, the HOO will set hire rates, rentals and other pricing related to Cockpits spaces and services in line with Cockpit’s charitable aims and commercial objectives. They will be responsible for issuing associated contracts and licences. 

The HOO will oversee all insurance requirements and ensure that terms required are met.  The HOO will oversee legal compliance issues in collaboration with the CEO and as directed. 

The HOO will maintain good relationships with Local Authorities and be responsible for monitoring and overseeing all rates or other levies in relation to the buildings or the charity itself. 

3 COMMERCIAL EVOLUTION AND PROJECTS  

The HOO will take an active leadership role in developing and delivering commercial opportunities for the charity in line with its charitable objectives and the strategic plan.  The HOO will lead on the strategy for development of space and venue hire, tours, better utilisation of space, and AV studio hire. The HOO will evaluate commercial opportunities/risks and will manage the delivery and ultimate running of such spaces. 

The HOO will also oversee the successful delivery and oversight of the cafe operator in Deptford.

4 LIVE EVENTS  

The HOO will actively contribute to the creative development of Cockpit events, including but not limited to Open Studios. They will be responsible for the operational planning and timely delivery of the events including budget management. The Event Manager and Events Coordinator will report into the HOO on all relevant events.

The HOO will be responsible for ensuring there is clear post event reporting from all departments, and that this is tracked year on year to ensure it informs future strategy, budgets and investment.

5 YOUTH AND COMMUNITY 

Working with the CEO, HOO is responsible for overseeing Cockpit’s Youth and Community activities. They will be responsible for the recruitment and management of the producer, as well as overseeing budgets. The HOO will oversee the programming of any Youth & Community activities across the year and ensure these are aligned to the charities objectives and are properly funded. They will work closely with the Head of Development and Youth and Community Producer to ensure Cockpit targets the correct funding bids and works with the correct partners to deliver impactful programmes in a cost-effective manner. 

6 IT and DATA MANAGEMENT 

The HOO is responsible for managing Cockpit’s external IT consultant to ensure that all hardware and software bought and used by the charity is up-to-date, efficient, cost effective, secure and suitable for the charity’s activities. 

The HOO is responsible for overseeing all software and digital upgrades including but not limited to the charity’s CRM, cloud-based services and future automation.

7 DATA AND GDPR 

The HOO will play a central role in the planning and correct implementation of any data programme for Cockpit. This will be in close collaboration with the Head of Marketing and Digital and the CEO.

The HOO is responsible for GDPR for Cockpit and will take on responsibility for compliance and other copyright or legal practices in relation to safe data management, firewall implementation, working closely with the Head of Marketing and Digital on these matters.

8 COMPLIANCE, RISK REGISTER, HANDBOOKS, HR 

The HOO has line management responsibility for the Deptford and Bloomsbury Studio Managers, Events and Venue Coordinator, Event Manager, Youth and Community Producer and overall responsibility for Cockpit’s HR function. 

The HOO will take responsibility for ensuring compliant staff practices in relation to up-to-date staff contracts, health and safety, maternity and all other relevant HR matters.  In association with the CEO and Financial Controller, the HOO will manage and record annual leave. 

The HOO will work with the Studio Managers to ensure good Maker welfare and be responsible for policies that result in positive outcomes in relation to the Cockpit community. 
 

The HOO will liaise with the CEO and advise on risks in the HR area and will sit on the People Committee of Cockpit.

The HOO will evaluate when HR risk requires external advice and will agree any necessary actions with CEO. 

The HOO will be responsible for the Staff Handbook, The Trustee Handbook, Maker Welcome Pack/Handbooks and all relevant compliance materials for updating and circulation, including all company policies.

Working with the CEO, the HOO will manage the Risk Register and update the Board in a timely manner on any pertinent and impending changes to that with the potential to impact the charity. The HOO will be a member of the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee (FARCo) of Cockpit.

The HOO will take on responsibility for recruitment practices and onboarding activities for new employees, contractors and trustees. 

The HOO will oversee the performance review process, coordinate staff training and be responsible for the training budget. 

9 DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION 

In conjunction with the CEO, the HOO will oversee and implement policies that foster and reflect the charity’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.  This may include managing new and existing initiatives, updating policies and undertaking formal reviews.  The HOO will champion Cockpit’s diversity objectives at the Board’s People Committee (PeCo). 

10 COMMITTEES AND BOARD 

The HOO will provide a support role to the CEO on preparation of Board papers and reports.  The HOO will coordinate committee meeting dates and circulate them to the members appropriately, with administrative support.  The HOO will oversee the minutes for all meetings, working with an external minute taker. The HOO may maintain activity lists and will work with the CEO and the Board of Trustees to ensure exceptional Governance.

Context

Through our flagship report and Gender and Health Index, GH5050 provides the only birds-eye view of gender, inclusion and equality in the global health system today. The report assesses 200 organisations annually across a core set of variables on policies and practices to tackle power and privilege imbalances within the workplace, the gender and geography of organisational leadership, and whether gender is considered in any organisations' external-facing programmatic or policy work.

In addition to the annual report, GH5050 also produces a range of other evidence-informed outputs, including thematic reports relating to equality and diversity in the workplace (e.g. on gender pay gap), and policy briefs about strategies for organisational change. 

GH5050 is expanding into new sectors beyond health and will increasingly support analysis at the country level. The successful candidate for this post is expected to play an integral role in contributing to the growth of GH5050, as well as taking a leading role in developing these new areas of work and leading and managing research staff across three sectoral workstreams.

Role Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to play a leadership role in a world-leading gender accountability and advocacy initiative. Role Responsibilities

This will include identifying, liaising with and guiding external writers that may be required to support the delivery of outputs.

Manage, develop and motivate a diverse team of dispersed multisectoral and multidisciplinary researchers: Responsible for line management of sector specialists (health, law/justice and economics/finance) and their teams which include consultant researchers dispersed across the globe. This will entail recruitment, performance management, talent development and team building of GH5050 researchers as well as capacity building of researchers in partner organisations.

Manage a range of partnerships: Responsible for developing, maintaining and growing research and advocacy partnerships with external teams across the globe, through the application of principles and practice of equitable research partnerships.

Report to external stakeholders: Ensuring timely and accurate reporting of activities and impact to GH5050 donors using specified templates for reporting.

Ensure internal communications: Provision of regular updates on research progress, including identifying and flagging risks to achieving research objectives. Identification of risk mitigation or management strategies as appropriate.

Ensure external communications-including stakeholder engagement: In collaboration with GH5050 communications and engagement specialists, ensuring that research outputs are disseminated for maximum impact. Developing and maintaining regular engagement and communications with organisations included in the sectoral reports (at global and national levels). Willingness to travel to present at external conferences, stakeholder meetings, and other events as appropriate.

Track impact: Develop and maintain a rigorous system to track the impact of GH5050 research and engagement. Work with communications and advocacy staff to capture and communicate impact and stories of change.

Ensure sound financial management: Budget responsibility for research projects and activities. Regular liaison with head of operations and head of budget in GH5050 to ensure that spend and projections are on track to be balanced. Ensure that research teams report expenditures according to agreed budget parameters and regulations (set by UK Charity Commission, donors, auditors).

Support resource mobilisation: In collaboration with the rest of the senior team, cultivate relationships with existing and potential supporters of the work of GH5050 and identify opportunities for new research work and collaborations. Take ownership of grant and to a limited degree peer-review academic grant proposal development.

While peer-reviewed publications are not a primary aim of GH5050, we encourage our researchers to publish in the academic literature and when they do so to practice equitable partnership practices in relation to authorship.

You will be responsible for our fundraising strategy and setting up and professionalising our fundraising function. You will have the backing of a committed group of Trustees and volunteers who are eager to help and support your work. You will also be responsible for fundraising for the MEF across several areas, and for developing funding initiatives for our future.

We are looking for someone with a great track record of success in fundraising, who can thrive in a small ambitious team. We will expect you to represent our interests in a range of public and private contexts; to be a confident and pro-active verbal and written communicator; and a skilled networker with a strong track record of relationship building.

Responsibilities and Duties 

• To establish a fundraising strategy and ensure fundraising compliance.
• To generate income from individual donors at the low, mid and major gift level. To support the Executive Trustee steward existing, and cultivate new, major donors.
• To research and develop a trust and foundation pipeline and prepare and submit grant applications and draft progress reports
• To grow our income and diversify our donor pool through targeted campaigns
• To grow our network – including influencers and organisations that can help to raise our profile
• To ensure appropriate stewardship processes are in place so that donors at all levels feel well thanked and informed of their impact.
• To grow our presence amongst small to medium businesses, London schools and local residents
• To build partnerships with businesses to extend our profile and find new funding opportunities
• To effectively engage schools and businesses to support the Foundation, to raise awareness and help raise funds
• To liaise with the team on a regular basis to explore better community engagement, local connections, and fundraising opportunities
• To report regularly to the Board on income, prospects, and strategic objectives in alignment with our objectives
• To help foster a positive culture of fundraising across the organisation
• To promote the MEF widely, through the written word and social media
• To research and plan fundraising events, with other MEF staff and the charity’s trustees
