About Us
Founded in 2007, KHULA Education is an award-winning South African NGO working in partnership with rural schools and underserved communities in deep rural South Africa to ensure children and youth can access a quality education and economic opportunity.
Over the past 17 years, KHULA has transformed schools that were previously failing into schools that compete at the national level; supported hundreds of young people to access tertiary education opportunities; and helped hundreds more on the path to employment. Each year, we support over 6,500 children, youth and more than 300 teachers.
About the Role
KHULA Education is seeking an experienced and dynamic fundraising leader to lead KHULA’s fundraising and communication efforts in the UK and South Africa. The postholder will join us at an exciting time and help us to continue our growth trajectory which has seen our annual budget increase from £250,000 to £1 million in the past several years. Supported by the South Africa based CEO, and working closely with the UK Board of Trustees, the postholder will be joined by a new Fundraising Officer who you will line manage.
We’re looking for an entrepreneurial individual with strategic vision who will play an active part in developing KHULA’s future fundraising strategy. 70% of the role is focused on fundraising directly for our work, 30% on managing KHULA’s communications including donor newsletters and social media content (this may evolve with the recruitment of an Officer).
Key Responsibilities
- Steward, retain and grow the support of our existing donor portfolio: KHULA has an existing portfolio of donors including trusts, foundations, corporates, major donors, individual and regular givers, the majority of whom are based in the UK or South Africa. The post holder is responsible for managing these relationships, including bespoke reporting for trusts and major donors, leading donor meetings and involving our Board and CEO as appropriate.
- Donor prospecting and new business: researching and generating new donor leads as well as acting on opportunities provided by our Board and others, converting prospects into supporters of our programmes.
- External communications: creating our quarterly e-newsletter to a database of ~2,000 supporters, managing our social media channels and the Annual Report, in addition to other ad hoc external communications.
- Fundraising innovation: leading on innovation in our fundraising approach, including creative campaigns to increase donations/recruit lapsed donors, developing products and offerings whilst considering cost effectiveness and ROI. Of particular interest is how to harness the giving potential of guests who are exposed to KHULA Education’s work when they visit Fugitives’ Drift Lodge in Rorke’s Drift.
- Financial management and admin: maintaining our donor database, working with the CEO to prepare our annual budget and fundraising forecasts.
Person Specification
Ideally you’ll have held a role with a similar scope of responsibilities around fundraising and communications, however you don’t need to have held a director level role before. Experience in a smaller charity and team is beneficial as you’ll need to be comfortable with both the strategic development side and inputting into wider planning, as well as being a leader who is willing to role up your sleeves and ‘do’.
We are particularly interested to hear from candidates who demonstrate most/all of the following attributes:
- A proven track record of personally delivering income of at least £1 million per year, including new business
- Experience in a fundraising leadership role and confidence in working alongside and advising at board level
- Experience in successfully fundraising from trusts, foundations, major donors and corporates, with experience in other areas (events, legacies etc.) also welcome
- Excellent proposal and donor communication writing skills (written samples of previous work will be requested)
- Self-motivated and able to work autonomously with a largely virtual team
- Comfortable acting in the capacity of charity ambassador, establishing new relationships and identifying new funding opportunities
- Ability to travel to occasional donor and board meetings (x3 per year), in/around London and annual trip to South Africa for 1-2 weeks.

This is a Permanent Full-Time role for 37.5 hours per week.
The role can be based at home – where a suitable home working environment is in place – or from any RSPB office, located at different locations across the UK. The role may require occasional travel to an RSPB office or to support meetings in central UK locations.
The RSPB is looking for an Executive Personal Assistant (Exec PA) to join the Income and Conservation Investment directorate, providing vital support to the Executive Director and wider leadership team, as well as facilitating the smooth running of the 300 people strong directorate.
About ICI
The Income and Conservation Investment (ICI) team are dedicated to generating income, long term support and system change to help protect and restore nature. The directorate comprises of teams responsible for membership & supporter fundraising, legacies, commercial sales, high value partnerships, business engagement and conservation investment. This is a great opportunity to support a key strategic function within RSPB and would suit someone who is eager to work in a fast-paced environment, to learn about and support income generation and enable others to be the best they can be.
What's the role about?
As Executive PA, you will provide assistance to the Executive Director of Income and Conservation Investment (ICI), managing their busy inbox and diary and proactively helping them to stay on top of actions and deadlines. You will also play an important role at leadership team meetings, ensuring their smooth running by producing agendas and capturing actions. You will be a key point of contact for colleagues across the directorate and around the RSPB so we are looking for someone with a positive and approachable manner who enjoys working with others and is able to efficiently prioritise and problem-solve. A typical day might include tasks such as:
- Supporting the Executive Director through inbox and diary management, booking travel and accommodation, compiling agendas, gathering meeting papers, collating actions and reminders
- Working with the Board and Council Coordinator to ensure papers are drafted and submitted within set timeframes and follow the correct process.
- Building and developing effective relationships with people across the organisation and externally on behalf of Executive Director. Ensuring confidential and sensitive matters are handled appropriately.
- Organising monthly directorate briefings and other engagement activities, sourcing interesting and relevant content to help inspire colleagues and showcase the work of teams across the RSPB.
- Facilitating various meetings, including that of the leadership team by working with the meeting chair to produce agendas, gather papers, book guest presenters, capture actions and generally ensure meetings run efficiently.
- Understanding, sharing and implementing best practice from across the organisation, for example, Information Management principles, new digital tools or ensuring meetings are inclusive and accessible.
- Working closely with the Executive Board PA group to improve processes and provide cover during times of absence.
- Supporting the leadership team with recruitment and induction of new staff and volunteers, following appropriate policies and procedures where applicable.
- Working in line with the RSPB expenses and purchasing policies, file expense claims and raise purchase orders.
Essential skills, knowledge and experience:
- At least one years experience of providing PA support to Director and/or senior management
- Experience of providing dedicated personal administrative support to senior staff.
- Knowledge of the Microsoft O365 suite, particularly SharePoint, PowerPoint and collaboration tools
- Able to make the best use of time particularly when under pressure from competing priorities, prioritising and delegating tasks effectively, during periods of both low and high demand.
- Able to proactively identify and solve problems and respond quickly to change
- Able to identify and act on opportunities for continually improving ways of working and create efficiencies
- Able to communicate effectively with people from all levels of the organisation as well as external stakeholders
- Able to organise meetings and events, of varying scales, and coordinate all aspects of the logistics.
- Able to take meeting notes and minutes clearly and concisely, with attention to detail
- Able to deal with confidential and sensitive information appropriately.

About you

- Managing relationships, reporting, and application cycles for Trusts and Foundations

You should have:
- Proven track record of fundraising within a trusts, statutory, or a grants role, or other relationship management/business development positions
- Experience of researching and developing proposals for funders, clients, or other stakeholders
- Experience of building both narrative and financial reports for funders, clients, or other stakeholders
- Highly developed writing skills – the ability to write compelling and accessible proposals, reports and appeals

The NGSN Communications and Partnerships Manager role is crucial to the successful coordination and delivery of the communications for GambleAware and the National Gambling Support Network (NGSN). The role will sit within the GambleAware communications team and will work in collaboration with the System’s Commissioning team, focused on building relationships with the National Gambling Support Network providers and act as an interface between the providers and GambleAware Communications team.
The Partnerships Manager will:
- be the main point of contact for the NGSN providers on the day-to-day development and delivery of communications
- be responsible for understanding the communications needs across the NGSN, working alongside the wider Communications team to address these needs, developing and delivering against a communications plan
- encourage the uptake of communications assets and materials across the wider partnership network.
- be responsible for upskilling providers in partnership activity and take a collaborative approach to working with those across the Network.
We're looking for an experienced and skilled individual who has a track record of delivering in partnership with a range of stakeholders. Who is confident in delivering communications across multiple channels in different styles and to a range of audiences. Someone who knows, from experience what it's like managing in-kind partnerships and who can show that they can build, manage and facilitate new relationships.
