Key Responsibilities

To work closely with the Evidence & Advocacy Manager (EAM) to develop and implement a series of impactful evidence and research projects that support our advocacy messaging, as well as internal and external learning for inclusive programmes and advisory work. These projects will build on established workstreams alongside developing new ones to maintain and extend CBM UK’s evidence base.

Disability Evidence, Policy Research and Learning

With EAM support the ongoing CBM UK Research and Evidence workstream, through:

1. Translating evidence from our programming countries and projects to produce and contribute to a range of resources to influence FCDO and other stakeholders. Tasks to include managing and maintaining established outputs, such as the CBM UK Project Evidence Briefs and Disability Voices paper series, generating new thematic papers, as well as policy and position papers to enhance effective advocacy submissions, briefing notes, blogs and other messaging on key disability rights issues.

2. Working collaboratively within CBM UK and across CBM Global to help develop and to deliver new policy research, drawing on mixed methods and data sources including national and international databases, using qualitative approaches including participatory or citizen generated data, and new empirical work.

3. Supporting Programme staff to improve impact and learning practice in CBM UK funded projects, provide technical support for the implementation of programme related research and data collection, including MEAL.

4. Providing technical research support into the development of proposals for new grant funded projects, and, where successful, support the management of subsequent research projects.

5. Keeping abreast of new research and publications on key themes and priority concerns within the CBM UK Advocacy and Influencing Strategy, taking into consideration sector trends and developments, and ensure this is disseminated to relevant staff within the CBM UK Team.

6. Keeping watch on UK policy environment and conducting research and analysis to support CBM UK advocacy messaging on disability and human rights.

Dissemination and Communications

1. Maintaining and developing internal knowledge management systems for research and information on disability inclusion and rights, and related areas, to be used by Advocacy, Programmes and Fundraising & Communications teams.

2. Ensuring communication plans are developed with CBM UK and Global Federation colleagues for CBM UK evidence outputs.

3. Maintaining the Advocacy and Influencing pages of the CBM UK website ensuring rights-based communication and focus to support CBM UK and Global campaigns.

4. Liaison with Fundraising & Communications colleagues to amplify media stories, case studies and compelling evidence from country programming for advocacy purposes.

5. Participation in and building good relationships with UK-based disability and development networks, including relevant research networks and membership of the BOND Disability and Development Group.

6. Supporting the professional publication and printing of CBM UK outputs, for dissemination at advocacy engagements and public events.

Other

1. Work with other CBM UK teams to maximise cross fertilisation opportunities and integrated working.

2. Help develop a culture of enthusiasm and success, reflecting the ambitions of CBM. Play an active role across CBM, promoting positive working and innovation. Ensure that the values of CBM UK are understood by external partners and always reflected in communications.

3. Identify opportunities to initiate and contribute to new initiatives and events, both within CBM UK and externally.

4. Provide briefings and analysis for the CEO and other Leadership Team members where appropriate.

5. Carry out any other duties as required by the Evidence & Advocacy Manager, Director of Advocacy, and CEO.

Stop Domestic Abuse is an innovative and unique provider of all services to those affected by domestic abuse. They provide inclusive domestic abuse services for adults and children living in Hampshire, Portsmouth and Southampton (population 1.9 million).

As Business Development Director, you will work as a key member of Stop Domestic Abuse’s Executive Leadership Team delivering the organisation’s strategic plans, focusing on securing and managing contracts and grants, management and business development.

Key responsibilities include:

•  Leading,  developing and delivering the income generation and fundraising strategy.
• Drive growth and business opportunities for Stop Domestic Abuse by leading on and developing new proposals for contracts, tenders, and grant applications; ensuring a strong business case and measurable outcomes.
• Develop new business lines which contribute income to support the Stop Domestic Abuse’s aspirations and core functions
• Lead on successful responses for Pre-qualification Questionnaires (PQQs), Invitations to Tender (ITT), grant applications and tender presentations.
• Sustain existing and develop new partnerships with key stakeholders across the sector.
• Lead on, and explore new high value income generation strategies, i.e. high net worth donors, corporate and business sponsorship, individual giving programmes, payroll giving, trading, etc and developing inspiring, motivating, advising and supporting local community groups to raise awareness and to generate income locally.
• Engage local media and develop PR. Leading on the development and creation of high-quality marketing, communication, and promotional tools.
• Take on Data Protection Officer and responsible person for Health and Safety matters and compliance.
• Act as an ambassador for Stop Domestic Abuse, continuing to develop a positive image of the charity with service users, stakeholders and the local community.

The successful candidate will have a relevant qualification (business management, management & leadership, fundraising, data & reporting) or proven track record in management with a particular focus on the women’s sector/domestic violence sector/community and voluntary sector.

Excellent knowledge and understanding of the current funding landscape and evidence of successfully developing opportunities to obtain new funding sources is key, as is a strong knowledge of GDPR, data protection, confidentiality, EEDI and Health and Safety. You must also have a proven track record in developing, implementing, evaluating and monitoring strategic, operational, business and fundraising plans, with a background in developing and executing an income generation strategy. Knowledge of social media platforms and experience in developing/delivering communications across multiple outlets is also crucial.

You must have the ability to lead, enthuse and inspire a team, using personal warmth and humour with the ability to be authoritative yet willing to take account of the views of others and be responsive to them. Proven ability to effectively build the organisation and manage staff capacity, developing a high performing team to ensure the organisation runs smoothly is a must, as is excellent written and oral communication skills, with strong presentational and influencing abilities.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

While no specific qualification is required, evidence of recent continuing professional development in areas such as management, leadership, or organisational culture is desired. Alternatively, equivalent work experience in a related field will be considered.

Job Summary:

The Executive Assistant to the Deputy Director of Programmes will provide high-level administrative support, ensuring the efficient operation of the office and supporting the Deputy Director in managing their workload. This role requires a proactive individual with excellent organisational, communication, and multitasking skills, capable of handling sensitive information with discretion and professionalism. The Executive Assistant will act as a key liaison between the Deputy Director, internal departments, and external stakeholders, contributing to the overall effectiveness and impact of the Programmes Department.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Administrative Support:
   • Manage the Deputy Director’s diary, schedule meetings, appointments, and travel arrangements.
   • Prepare and organise meeting agendas, take minutes, and follow up on action items.
   • Draft, edit, and proofread correspondence, reports, presentations, and other documents on behalf of the Deputy Director.
   • Handle incoming communications (emails, calls, etc.) and respond or redirect as appropriate.
2. Project Coordination:
   • Assist in the coordination of projects and initiatives led by the Deputy Director, including tracking progress, deadlines, and deliverables.

About the role:

This role sits within our busy legal team and will be the legal business partner for the Motor Neuron Disease and Global Health Translational Challenges (“TCs”) within LifeArc providing specialist legal support on a wide range of grant funded projects and strategic collaborations. The role will support on all legal aspects of the structuring and execution of projects and will advise on a range of commercial, charity law, intellectual property and life science and medical research-related legal matters.

You will be a professional advisor and counsel to senior leadership and operational staff, especially the Head and senior members of the Partnerships Team (including BD Project Leads) and the TC Leaders, and will work in cross-functional teams to find solutions for delivering strategic projects. 

You will work closely with the contract managers in the Legal team to coordinate and manage the contractual needs of the organisation, including delegation and supervision and generally being a collegiate member of the Legal team providing advice, training and supervision to both colleagues in the team and across the organisation. 

About you:

You will be responsible for the following:

• Being a strategic legal business partner to the Motor Neuron Diseases (“MND”) and Global Health (“GH”) Translational Challenges, proactively seeking out information to anticipate and deliver all relevant legal support.
• Developing strategies for delivering that support, including triage and delegation within the Legal team.  
• Setting up new collaborations, grant funding initiatives, licences and other contractual arrangements by advising on the structure of these projects and by drafting and negotiating agreements. 
• Advising and supporting the Partnerships team on existing relationships to manage LifeArc’s existing funding projects and collaboration and LifeArc’s and others’ technologies, platforms and IP. 
• Leading and supporting Legal team initiatives, including training to the business and embedding new IT assets.
• Obtaining and pragmatically applying advice from external counsel, as appropriate. 
• Managing competing priorities whilst balancing the needs of the team and the organisation. 
• Providing occasional support to other parts of the organisation, including the Science and Procurement teams.
• Developing and applying an understanding of relevant aspects of charity law and Data Protection law to advise the business and mitigate related risks.  
• Advising on developments in legislation and legal practice as they impact commercial, IP and other activities in LifeArc; as appropriate, cascade that information into the organisation.

Skills and Education:

• Significant post qualification experience gained in Intellectual Property and commercial law. 
• A solicitor or barrister qualified to practice law in England and Wales.
• Experience advising on life sciences and/or medical research matters also advantageous.
• Highly proficient at drafting and negotiating complex contracts.  
• Experience of charity law and/or working with charity or not-for-profit clients highly advantageous.

The Philanthropy team is part of the Philanthropy and Partnerships department, whose primary goal is to engage high value supporters and fundraise for the Stop MS Appeal.

As Philanthropy Officer, you’ll work closely with the Philanthropy manager, raising income for the MS Society from philanthropy fundraising activities as per the agreed objectives and targets.

You’ll identify, engage and steward philanthropy prospects through events and other appropriate fundraising activities, generating income to achieve ambitious targets and delivering a first class supporter experience.

You’ll ensure the provision of excellent individual care to ensure long term commitment, contributing to the overall implementation of our Philanthropy team’s objectives.

Full time role (37.5 hours) with an initial 6-month fixed term contract continuing subject to funding.

We are delighted to be recruiting exclusively for this fascinating and inspiring charitable organisation in helping them find an experienced senior finance professional to join them as their new Head of Finance & Business Resources.

Reporting into the CEO of this £3 million turnover cultural and historic environment focussed charity, you will be a qualified accountant and have strong technical accounting skills. You will thrive in an environment where positive change is welcomed and where streamlining, and modernisation is encouraged. You will oversee finance and business services day to day operations and be adept at building strong working relationships both internally and externally. You will be enthusiastic about the idea of joining an organisation that is looking to improve processes, procedures, and finance operations.

As the new Head of Finance & Business Services you will be part of the senior management team and be eager to develop skills outside your finance remit. This role will suit someone who is keen to play an integral part in the organisations ongoing success and as a member of the senior management team you will embrace the opportunity to support the CEO in the board room.

The job

• Oversee the finance operation, to include, statutory accounts and tax returns, quarterly management accounts, financial planning, and budgeting
• Ensure the charity’s insurance policies are fit for purpose to include leading relationship management with brokers
• Lead on pensions operational management, managing the contracts with external advisors and other relevant contracts as required
• Oversee the system of internal controls, including systems for delegated financial authority
• Lead on relationships with external auditors
• Oversee the management of tax affairs drawing on external advisors as needed.
• Act as Company Secretary, ensuring all corporate governance and compliance requirements are fulfilled for the charity
• Oversee procurement and contract management to ensure effective, value for money services are available to support all operational functions.
• Deliver a people plan and strategy for the organisation with progression routes for staff and continuous professional development
• Act as a lead for all HR matters, including strategic development and use of internal skills and outsourced suppliers
• Manage, coach and develop direct reports to ensure effective performance management, skill developments and teamwork
• Make a significant contribution to Senior Executive team objectives and participate fully in Senior Executive team activities
• Establish an estate management plan aiming to reduce operational costs and deliver agile working
• Lead on Information Technology strategy across the organisation, managing the key contracts in relation to I.T.

The person specification

• Fully qualified accountant, ACA, CIMA, CIPFA, or ACCA
• Demonstrable technical accounting skills to include statutory reporting
• Charity experience is essential
• Good understanding of charity finance and governance
• Desire to taken on a broader remit i.e. HR, IT
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
• Experience/knowledge of managing occupational pension schemes
• Strong budgeting, forecasting, and cashflow skills
• Ability to work in the Welsh Language is desirable, but not essential, to this role.
• Experience with fundraising and grant management in the non-profit sector is desirable
• Proven leader with the ability to operate at senior executive level.
• Strong knowledge of organisational governance requirements.
• An interest and passion for the historic environment would be desirable
• Strategic approach to finance and business services to furthering charitable objects.

Salary & benefits

• Salary is up to £65,000 pa, this is dependent on experience
• 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays

• The role can be based out of one of 4 locations in Wales – Bangor, Llandeilo, Baglan or Welshpool
