Concern Pain Concern is a charity providing information and support to people with pain and those who care for them, whether family, friends or healthcare professionals. All pain is unpleasant, but for the 7.8 million people in the UK living with long-term pain it is a part of everyday life. It diminishes quality of life more than any other condition, leading often to loss of work, depression and disability. Anyone at any age can develop persistent pain and you will very probably know somebody affected. Although there is usually no cure, people who receive the appropriate treatment, information and support can manage their condition effectively with life changing results

Role purpose

The treasurer acts as a trustee of the charity, with additional responsibilities for overseeing the charities funds. Day to day bookkeeping is carried out in the office by the charity’s accounts clerks, using a Sage accounting package. Please note that for safeguarding purposes, the successful applicant will be required to undertake a PVG check. The cost of which will be covered by Pain Concern. This role reports into the Board of Trustees and works closely with the Charity’s Chair.

What you would be doing

• To monitor the financial administration of the charity and report to the board of trustees at regular (monthly) intervals.

• Overseeing the preparation of the accounts and annual financial statements.
• Leading the board in its duty to ensure that the financial accounts are kept in line with regulatory requirements and reports are filed with OSCR and Companies House.

• Leading in the development and implementation of charity’s reserves policies. • Overseeing the financial controls and adherence to systems.

• Acting as a counter signatory on cheques and online payments. • Board‐level liaison with the external scrutiniser of the accounts.

• Complete Trustee Induction training

• Complete Safeguarding training for Trustees

• Respond in a timely manner to trustee business conducted by email and attend any ad-hoc meetings (appropriate notice given)

• Qualifications in either accountancy, finance and/or business studies.

About the role

Our volunteers play a crucial role in our organisation, enabling us to offer a diverse range of additional services to the people we support.  By becoming a home visitor, you can develop your communication and interpersonal skills, and you will make a vital difference to the person you visit by reducing their feelings of loneliness and isolation.

Time Commitment

This role requires a weekly commitment at a time to be agreed by both you and the individual. We will regularly make contact with you both to see how the relationship is building and offer ongoing support as needed. You will be required to undertake a short Sighted Guide training session, provided by us, if you propose to take an individual out of the house for a walk or coffee. 

To ensure a member of staff is available in case of a safeguarding concern, we ask that visits take place Monday - Friday between 9am and 4pm.

Requirements

• We are looking for friendly, reliable people who can be patient with individuals who may be blind, partially sighted or hard of hearing. Your role is to be there to provide a befriending service, and if requested, offer them a walk around their local area or a coffee in a local café.  
• The role will not involve providing personal or health care, taking an individual to any medical appointments or shopping.
• To assist the person to continue any hobby that their sensory impairment is making it more difficult to achieve, within the home environment such as reading for pleasure (not reading correspondence) or playing a game.  

We will match you with someone in your local area and wherever possible you will be matched with an individual who shares similar interests.

You may be asked from time to time if you are able to support other volunteer roles including one to one support with vulnerable adults. Please be aware that volunteers are required to have an enhanced check via the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and join the DBS Update Service to ensure that regular checks can be undertaken during your volunteering service. Sensory Services by Sight for Surrey would apply for this on your behalf at no cost to yourself.

Youth Leaders work directly with young people in St John Ambulance Badger Setts and Cadet Units. By organising a mixed weekly programme, this role will support the learning and development of young people into the next generation of healthy citizens. Youth Leaders also help young people develop their confidence, teamwork skills, self-discipline, and generally encourage them to strive to be the best they can be, as well as supervise and support other adult volunteers in their team.

You’ll get a huge sense of satisfaction and pride delivering an essential service. It’s great for you, great for your community and great for our nation, and it requires only a small commitment of your time. 

Our Felixstowe Cadet Unit will meet for 2 hours on a weekday evening, every week during term times. Usually between the hours of 6-9 pm, being a new unit, the team will be able to discuss the day/time when in place. Please outline your availability in your application form.

Role specification

The UK Board of Trustees governs UWS by setting its strategic direction, approving its goals and objectives, and providing oversight to ensure the organisation fulfils its mission. Trustees use their networks and expertise to support UWS in expanding its reach and impact.

Due to some Trustees stepping down at the end of their term, UWS is seeking one new Trustee to help expand its reach internationally to serve more children in remote communities. UWS is now particularly interested in candidates with International Development experience (INGO experience), particularly in Primary Education and ideally with an understanding of gender inclusive education – ensuring girls have the same start in life as boys. 

While UWS is headquartered in London, it has teams delivering programmes in Cambodia, Myanmar, Nepal, and Madagascar. Trustees play a key role in advocating for UWS, offering strategic guidance, and helping to develop partnerships that support its mission.

Brent Foodbank are seeking to recruit two trustees - one to act as our Fundraising Lead, with the other supporting the work of the Board of Trustees more generally to support the food bank to meet its core purpose.

What will you be doing?

General Trustee Key responsibilities:

• As board members, we work to set a long-term strategy for Brent Foodbank, defining clear objectives and milestones to be monitored and refined.
• Managing Brent Foodbank’s resources responsibly, including ensuring the charity’s assets are used only to carry out its purpose, avoid undue risk and not over-commit the charity.
• Ensure appropriate financial plans are in place for future budget allocations as well as ensuring that the charity is accountable, actively complying with statutory accounting and reporting requirements and the law.
• Adhering to best practice for governance of the Foodbank’s assets and staff.
• Ensure the Foodbank has appropriate procedures in place to comply with current legislation and best practice, including - employment, health and safety, safeguarding, equal opportunities and GDPR/data protection compliance.
• Ensure the Foodbank treats all its Clients with dignity and respect taking account of the diversity of our Clients.
• Acting with reasonable care and skill.
• Seeking to promote Brent Foodbank in the community. Acting as an ambassador for Brent Foodbank, promoting Brent Foodbank widely, for instance, on social media to our stakeholders, including: our Clients, Volunteers and potential funders/donors.

Fundraising Lead Trustee Key responsibilities (in addition to the above):

• To work alongside the Treasurer and the rest of the Board to plan what level of funds are required to be generated to ensure the effective running of the charity.
• To work alongside the Trustee Board to ensure that any grants are sought and written with the purpose of meeting the charity's vision and objectives.
• To pilot the organisation of a fundraising sub-committee and lead on local fund-raising opportunities to support the running of the charity, including incorporating national Trussell fundraising campaigns/events throughout the year.
• To oversee, with operational management support, the writing of high-quality grant applications that align with the charity's vision and objectives.
• Regularly communicate with the rest of the Trustee Board via Trustee meetings or any other communication of any relevant information and/or developments regarding fundraising or grant applications.

What are we looking for?

The role involves acting as a charity trustee to set the strategic direction for the food bank.  Providing good governance, ensuring that the food bank meets its objectives and fulfils its charitable purpose.  Ensuring the food bank operates within its budget and in compliance with its charity, legal and operational goals.

Trustees are required to comply with the food bank’s governing documents, charity law and other relevant laws. They must act in the food bank’s best interests, including deciding what will best enable the charity to carry out its purpose, as well as making informed decisions to support food bank staff in achieving the vision/objectives of the food bank and ensuring there is a good relationship between the Trustee Board, food bank staff, and our stakeholders including: volunteers, our clients, funders, donors and the community in Brent.

The Role

As a Flyer Distributor you will play a crucial role in helping to raise awareness about our services and events within the Enfield community. You will be responsible for disseminating promotional materials such as flyers, brochures, and event announcements to various locations within the Enfield area.

• Distribute promotional materials provided by Age UK Enfield to designated locations across the Enfield area. This may include community centers, libraries, local businesses, healthcare facilities, and other relevant locations.
• Engage with members of the public in a friendly and courteous manner while distributing flyers. Answer any questions they may have about Age UK Enfield's services and provide basic information about upcoming events or initiatives.
• Keep accurate records of the locations visited and the quantity of promotional materials distributed. Report back to the supervisor on to provide updates on distribution progress.
• Act as an ambassador for Age UK Enfield by promoting the organisation's mission, values, and services to the community. Help to increase brand recognition and visibility within the local area.

General Key Skills:
