The Woodland Trust is looking for an Events and Communications Officer in our Smithills team to support the delivery of our Communications and Engagement program on Smithills Estate.
The Role:
• This will include responsibility for our busy events programme, creation of content for our social media channels, and administrative support for our wider people engagement and volunteering programme. This is to inspire people about the landscape of Smithills and facilitating a deeper connection with woods and trees.
• Coordinate and deliver events and activities that provide visitors and local community groups with the opportunity to connect with the site and support the work of the Woodland Trust. This includes providing engaging experiences for schoolteachers, children, community groups, and the general public, with a focus on encouraging self-led activity going forward.
• Operational delivery of events, including organising contractors, room bookings, and equipment; ensuring event site and contractors are compliant with health and safety requirements; event set-up and management on the day; and event volunteer coordination.
• Building relationships with local schools, engaging with schools in high-importance areas, and combining the Green Tree School Award and Free Tree Packs.
• Establish more volunteer support and start a young volunteer team for ages 13 -17.
• This is a fixed term contract until the end of January 2026, part time role (15 hours / 2 days per week).
• Occasional weekend work to be expected.
• This is a Hybrid working role, where you’ll work part of your time at home and part of the time from our Regional Office based in Smithills, Bolton, with travel in the UK as required.
• This role will require an enhanced DBS check as part of our pre-employment checks.
The Candidate:

• You’ll need experience in planning and delivering a diverse range of events, including outdoor events, tailored to different audiences and locations. leading groups and activities in an outdoor setting.
• You’ll have experience working with young people, leading youth-focused engaging activities, for various ages.
• Experience managing social media accounts and content management software; Buffer, Canva, Facebook, TikTok and Instagram
• A thorough understanding of health and safety and safeguarding as it relates to events.
• Ability to copywrite, edit and produce engaging and timely content, including video content
• Ability to work collaboratively, with volunteers and external partners, to deliver objectives
• You must have a proactive ‘can-do’ attitude, excellent communication skills, be commercially aware and able to build effective partnerships internally and externally.
• Ability to work weekends as required.
• The role is based at Smithills in Bolton and will require the successful candidate to undertake travel across a wide area. A full driving licence is required.

This multi-faceted role will see our successful candidate assess referred clients, with reference to St Giles Trust assessment practices, and then produce support and risk management plans based on these assessments, ensuring you promote inter-agency collaboration in the assessment and planning process.

This role is within our Sheffield Dementia Short-term Intervention Service and Hospital Discharge Pilot. The service offers specialist support to people with dementia for up to 6 weeks to prevent crisis or provide crisis intervention support if needed. Referrals for this service come from GPs across Sheffield and nursing staff working in the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.
No two days are the same in this role and our work can really transform the lives of people affected by dementia. You will be supporting people with a dementia diagnosis (or on the dementia pathway) and/or their carers and wider families. You will be supported by a small team of dementia advisers, along with the local services manager and our wonderful volunteers.
The service sits within our Sheffield & Rotherham local services team.
About you
- Be An empathetic listener, able to assess and evaluate client need in a non- judgemental manner.
- Able to work under pressure and manage own caseload.
- Self-motivated and can work independently from home using your own initiative, but equally you are a team player keen to support your colleagues, working in community venues when required.
- You have some knowledge or personal experience of dementia, and the challenges people affected by it may face.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation such as the Mental Capacity Act, Safeguarding Adults, Data Protection.
- Able and confident to travel within the service area and visit people in their homes.

Debt Advisor
The Advice Services directorate at Toynbee Hall is central to our commitment to address and alleviate poverty in London and beyond. Specialising in debt, welfare benefits, legal support, and generalist advice, our directorate has proven instrumental in significantly enhancing the financial wellbeing of those we serve. Scope of role
The Debt Advisor is responsible for providing comprehensive, video debt advice to prisoners across thirteen (13) HMPPS sites, tailored to their specific circumstances. This role involves conducting detailed interviews to understand clients’ financial problems, researching options, and helping clients make informed decisions. The advisor ensures income maximisation and provides ongoing casework support, acting on behalf of clients where necessary. Maintaining up-to-date case records and staying informed about relevant legislation, policies, and procedures are crucial aspects of the role. The Debt Advisor is also expected to complete continuous professional development and contribute to the team’s overall objectives by meeting targets, prioritising workloads, and demonstrating financial efficiency. The may also be required to attend meetings on-site at various prisons and host workshops for prisoners.
Key Responsibilities
Accurate, effective and individually tailored advice
- Interviewing those that access our service using sensitive listening and questioning skills to allow them to explain their problem(s) and empower them to set their own priorities.
- Researching and exploring options and implications so that those accessing our service can make informed decisions.
- Providing in-depth quality advice and on-gong casework, including acting for the client where necessary using appropriate communication skills and channels.
Detailed case records
- Maintaining detailed case records, ensuring that all work meets all auditing and quality standards and the requirements of the funder.
- Ensuring all case records and written up in a timely manner.
Up-to-date training
- Completing a minimum of 16 hours/ equivalent of technical debt advice DPD accredited training or qualifying activity.
- Maintaining an up-to-date record of all training sessions.
Teamwork
- Work to an agreed work-plan, meeting targets and milestones, whilst prioritising and managing your own workload.
- Be an active member of the team, identifying opportunities for your own development, and demonstrating financial efficiency and value for money throughout your work.
