Are you a charity professional with an avid interest in supporter journeys? Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity is hiring for a Supporter Experience and Journeys Executive.

This is a new position in an area with ambitious aims to grow income, and a need for a holistic, audience-led supporter journey to better engage our supporters and increase lifetime value, supporter journeys will play a key part in growing voluntary income over the coming years. 

Salary 

The salary for this position is £33,148 per annum.

Role Overview 

This is a varied role where you’ll be involved with: 

• Assisting the Supporter Experience and Journeys Manager with implementation of supporter journeys across the fundraising directorate and charity. 
• Identifying new supporter journey opportunities and work with fundraisers to map out touchpoints. 
• Contributing to the creation of email content and the delivery of automated digital journeys and one-off communications 
• Creating copy for supporter journey communications, tailoring and personalising copy for different audiences 
• Analysing the performance of supporter journeys and make insight-led recommendations for optimisations to supporter experience 

About You 

We’re looking for someone with:

• Previous experience working in a charity environment, ideally within a supporter journeys or marketing role.
• A passion for supporter journeys.
• The ability to build productive relationships with internal stakeholders and/or supporters.
• Strong stakeholder management and engagement skills.
• Copywriting skills and ability to understand different audiences and tailor content appropriately.
• Knowledge of CRM systems and reporting tools.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail with the ability to make recommendations based on trends in data.
• Ability to prioritise workload and work to deadlines.

This role will work with the Supporter Experience & Journeys Manager and fundraising teams to implement new supporter journeys which deepen supporter engagement and support our ambition to significantly grow voluntary net income. The team sits alongside Data, Analytics and Digital, working closely with those areas to ensure we are utilising our data as effectively as possible to improve our supporters’ experience with us

The Baobab Centre is a non-residential therapeutic community that supports young asylum seekers and refugees who have experienced human rights abuses and have sought asylum in the UK as unaccompanied minors. Our two focus areas are rehabilitation and justice.

The role of the Baobab Casework Advocate is to provide care and support for our community of unaccompanied asylum seeking and refugee children and young people. An ‘advocate’ is someone who supports another to express their views and wishes, to stand up for their rights, to enable one to make choices and access opportunities, while understanding the individual’s vulnerability and need.  As Casework Advocate you will work within our multidisciplinary team to provide the intensive support required, identify indicators of risk and safeguard young people from significant harm.

Mental Health

As Casework Advocate you will understand the impact of specific human rights abuses on the development of children and young people in exile and their individual experiences of loss, trauma and grief on their mental health and well-being.  All the young people Baobab supports suffer significant mental health and developmental difficulties and many function in an unstable and more immature way than their chronological age. Due to their experiences, it takes time to gain trust from the young people in our community.

Baobab’s Model

It is our experience that it takes a significant amount of time to understand Baobab’s model of working, which aims for rehabilitation and justice through attending to both the internal and external world of each young person (see more detail in accompanying ‘Baobab Model’ document). It is critical that as a Casework Advocate you strive to have an insight to the experiences of both the internal and external factors impacting on the lives of unaccompanied young people attending our centre. It is also critical you understand the the ways in which UK society and policy impacts on young asylum seekers (including invisibility, marginalisation, discrimination and the fact of waiting in uncertainty for a long time)

Multi-disciplinary Working A key aspect of the role is communicating with members of the team at Baobab and building relationships with other workers in the networks around each young person including social workers, teachers, foster carers, lawyers, clinicians in hospitals and community settings. Baobab aims to be a reflective, thinking organisation and we place a high value on shared thinking time, sharing responsibilities and working together with others who have a key role in relation to each young person both within and outside of Baobab.

Accessing rights and entitlements

The Casework Advocate supports community members to better understand the context in which they are living and how to access appropriate care, rights and entitlements. This involves working closely with each young person’s Key Work Clinician, and together strengthening relationships with external networks and developing holistic support plans to meet identified needs. As a Casework Advocate you must be prepared to challenge certain decisions and practices by external agencies where required for the welfare of the young person. The role involves supporting young people to initiate legal challenges when necessary and advocating on young person’s behalf where they are unable to.

Working towards independence

A key component of the role is to empower individuals to communicate their views, needs and experiences and participate in decision making processes. You will encourage young people to develop their level of knowledge and skills to enable their independence and progression towards their aspirations. Many of the young people Baobab supports find the task of taking responsibility for their own lives and making choices hugely challenging.

Just a Drop is an international development charity working to bring safe water, sanitation and hygiene education to communities in need, transforming lives. Our safe water projects have benefitted almost two million people across 31 countries since we began in 1998.

The past three years have seen significant growth for Just a Drop, and our income in 2024 has surpassed £1 million for the first-ever time and is forecast to grow further in the coming years.

A large part of this is down to our corporate fundraising, which is a real strength of ours, indeed, in the past three years we have been shortlisted at many awards for our partnership work.

We’re now looking to strengthen this function with a new role, that of Corporate Fundraiser.

Purpose of Role

To support the Head of Fundraising and Head of Trusts to develop and deliver effective income generation and partner relationship management. Collaborating also with the wider WasteAid team to develop quality funding proposals and fundraising assets. To research, explore and initiate new fundraising approaches with potential new funders.

Income Generation

• Support the senior fundraising team to research and develop potential opportunities for maximising income generation
• Support the senior team to identify and secure new supporters/partners and ensure effective engagement with established supporters. This includes:

- Diverse Outreach

- Proposal Development

- Participation in pitch sessions / donor meetings

• Rolling stewardship and relationship management for a number of potential and current donors. Including coordinating staff fundraising /other donor activity and admin to support the partnership

Building relationships with other statutory and non-statutory agencies in local communities is vital to build referral pathways and provide a whole system approach to supporting individuals.

To carry out this work you will meet women in the community in your designated borough and co-locate with other agencies including the National Probation Service, as well as regularly attending Advance’s North London vibrant Women’s Centre/office space.

You will be a creative self-starter who will support the service and look for innovative solutions to support clients with complex needs. You are confident professional relationship builder and has good awareness of Safeguarding procedures. Strong Administration skills and understanding of compliant behaviours also experience of supporting. With good knowledge of the criminal justice system and awareness of other support provisions within the North London area.

Achieving change for children’s rights - and addressing the root causes that allow violations to occur in the first place - requires a variety of approaches and voices. How CRIN works on each issue varies depending on the need and our ability to bring about change. However, a bedrock of our work is using the law to uphold stronger standards for children’s rights.

The international human rights framework, including the UN system, has been under strain - and while we think it’s important to simultaneously focus on other channels for change, we also want to continue to be a critical friend at the global level.

This is who we’re looking for

We are looking for someone who can lead our work on national security and armed conflict. We need someone who has a strong understanding of the children’s rights and human rights legal framework and who has experience conducting advocacy at the global level. This person must be skilled at building relationships with key stakeholders - both allies and targets at different levels.

In particular, you would provide leadership on how children’s rights are impacted by counter-terrorism measures, including working on UK-based and international campaigning. You would also be responsible for exploring the expansion of CRIN’s work on children and armed conflict internationally.

You would work closely and collaboratively with numerous members of the CRIN team, including the Co-Directors and the Children’s Rights and National Security Coordinator. Your responsibilities would include:

• Leading CRIN’s work on children’s rights and national security and armed conflict;

• Building relationships and conducting advocacy with relevant decision-makers, including government and UN policymakers;

• Building and developing relationships with relevant organisations and individuals at all levels, including grassroots, national, regional and global;

• Working with other staff/consultants to conduct research and draft resources, e.g. research reports, briefings for decision-makers, submissions to relevant bodies;

• Helping with coordination on various issue areas related to national security and armed conflict: planning; formulating strategy; carrying out activities; and monitoring, evaluating, and reporting;

• Advising on and incorporating an anti-oppressive approach within our work on armed conflict and national security;

• Monitoring relevant news and policy developments, identifying opportunities for advocacy;

• Working with CRIN communications staff to create content for the website, social media, and newsletter;

• Supporting and working closely with other CRIN policy team members, providing legal and advocacy advice for their work;

• Representing CRIN in relevant coalitions/networks and at external events/meetings related to the issue area;

• Contributing to seeking media coverage for the issues, e.g. pitching stories, liaising with journalists, responding to interview requests.

We are looking for someone with the following attributes:

• Knowledge of and passion for children’s rights;

• Knowledge of the impact of counter-terrorism laws on children’s rights;

• Excellent legal research skills and experience utilising knowledge of comparative law and human rights law;

• Ability to think strategically and analytically, in particular the ability to develop effective strategies for social change; 

• Ability to communicate clearly and persuasively with diverse stakeholders, including in writing, and to cultivate relationships with a variety of people;

• An understanding of how oppression can manifest in the issues we work on (and how we work as an international NGO) and a keen interest in how we can implement an anti-oppression approach;

• Knowledge of the UN framework and experience conducting effective advocacy in this context; 

• Motivated, with strong organisational skills and an ability to manage own work (including while remote-working);

• Fluency in English;

• Ability to thrive in a small (and mostly remote) team.

The following would also be an advantage:

• Fluency in another UN language;

• Experience coordinating various projects or strands of work;

YEF’s Commitment to Race Equity  

Children from Black, Asian and other minority backgrounds are significantly overrepresented at all stages in the youth justice system. Black children are four times as likely to be arrested as White children. And, as of May 2019, more than half of the children in youth custody were from Black, Asian or other minority backgrounds. Clearly, there is a problem – in the criminal justice system and our wider society.

The Youth Endowment Fund’s mission is to prevent children and young people from becoming involved in violence. Because of this disproportionality, it’s clear that if we don’t challenge the role that racism plays in young people’s experiences of youth justice, education and access to employment and mental health support, we won’t be able to make the difference we’re here to bring about. This means that – both as an employer and a What Works Centre – we need to make sure that we are considering the impact on children from Black, Asian and other minority backgrounds in our decision-making.

The role of the Race Equity Associate 

At the Youth Endowment Fund, we’re here to prevent children and young people becoming involved in violence. We do this by finding out what works and building a movement to put this knowledge into practice.

To make the most difference over the ten years of our endowment, we’ve selected a set of sectors where we’ll concentrate our funding and learning. In each area, we’ll review the evidence to see where the gaps are, we’ll invest in projects, research and evaluators to find out what does and doesn’t work, and we’ll build coalitions and partnerships to put what we learn into action.

Within these sectors, we want to partner with a Race Equity Associate, with deep knowledge and understanding of the area. They will work alongside us as we assess the current evidence, engage stakeholders and identify the best opportunities for change. They will help us to understand the specific role racism plays in our sectors and what it looks like to design racially sensitive and equitable interventions to support children and young people. In doing so, they will give us the best chance at addressing racial disproportionality in the criminal justice system and understanding what works for children from Black, Asian and other minority backgrounds. 

But we also know that we cannot address issues of racism and disproportionality as a funder without also looking inward, to our own practices and culture as an organisation. Therefore, we’re also work with Race Equity Associates with specific expertise and depth of experience in driving race equity work within organisations. They will help us to fulfil our race equity commitments by looking at specific topics such as the way we retain and train our team.  

The role of a Race Equity Associate will typically involve: 

Leading a training session with our team on the role racism plays in your area of expertise, sharing from your experience and knowledge on the issue. 

Partnering with the internal team tasked with understanding the area, identifying the opportunities for change and designing funding rounds to generate evidence. You’ll review and provide feedback and challenge on the materials we develop, serving as a critical friend and issue area expert. 

Making sure we’re talking to a broad range of stakeholders to help inform our understanding of racism within the area of focus.

Helping our team to work through issues or questions as they arise throughout the entire lifecycle of a funding round or internal project.

Who are we looking for? 

We are looking for Race Equity Associates with expertise and experience in:

Policing - Violence prevention strategies that involve the police and focus on the individuals most likely to be involved in serious violence.

Children Services - we’ll work to find out how we can best support children at risk of harm and involvement or violence inside or outside the home, and their families and carers’ 

Inclusive workplace practices, including onboarding, retention, training and culture building.

Applicants can be freelancers, sole contractors or working as part of organisations, provided they can commit to a minimum involvement of five days on any focus area or project they are commissioned to support. For this work, YEF will compensate Race Equity Associates at a rate of £650 per day.

The Role
