The Bone Cancer Research Trust is seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Finance Officer to take ownership of our daily transactional inputs, maintaining strong internal controls and ensuring timely and accurate reporting on the purchase, sales and general ledgers. You will be familiar with payroll processing and able to effectively liaise with an external payroll bureau. Reporting to the Management Accountant, you will be a part- or fully-qualified accounting techician, or have relevant experience working in a similar role. You will be analytical and able to forge strong relationships with a close-knit team in a growing organisation. You will be self-reliant and able to deal with fluctuating workflows, while possessing the motivation and skills to help improve processes over time.

PROJECT MANAGER
THE ABBEY OF ST EDMUND: A MILLENNIUM OF ENGLISH HISTORY IN WEST SUFFOLK

Thanks to National Lottery players, St Edmundsbury Cathedral, in partnership with West Suffolk Council and English Heritage, has received a Development Phase grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund to conserve the Abbey of St Edmund ruins, deliver universal access through a network of footpaths, and build a heritage welcome centre within a line of listed buildings facing the town’s public space.

We are now looking for a Project Manager to co-ordinate and assist in the management of the development phase, which will last until February 2026. If we are successful in our delivery phase application, the role will continue for a further three years. We’re looking for someone with:

• Similar project management experience, at a comparable level of cost and complexity, especially working on Heritage Fund projects.

• Experience of working on projects with complex structures (we have three project partners: St Edmundsbury Cathedral, English Heritage and West Suffolk Council).
• A good understanding of audiences for heritage to enable activity planning and audience development to take place alongside the capital and design works.

Flexible working, but must be on site at least 2 days a week.

Role and Responsibilities

We are looking to recruit a law graduate (1-3 years post-graduation) with experience in environmental law, economic justice and/or international development to join our small but dynamic team. Depending on experience, the role will support our programmes challenging economic injustice caused by environmental damage, biodiversity loss, deforestation, illegal resource trafficking, climate change and conflicts over natural resources; promoting transparency and accountability in public and private institutions to encourage responsibility and minimise the impacts of corruption; and promoting fairer and more effective economic and fiscal policy tools to help states meet development goals and enhance the rule of law. Working as part of a small, busy team, you will have the opportunity to learn at very close hand what it means to work for an international NGO focusing on achieving environmental and economic justice. You will develop projects with a range of partners, including international agencies, NGOs and CSOs, and governments and government bodies. You will collaborate with a range of volunteer lawyers (law firms and barristers chambers) who are leading experts in their field. The role will also involve project management, assistance with fundraising, fulfilling compliance obligations, and evaluating and learning from projects.

Key Competencies:
• Relevant experience and knowledge (either from previous work experience or study) relating to environmental law and policy and/or economic justice in an international development context;
• A law graduate with a good understanding of how law is useful to achieving reform on the above;

JOB DESCRIPTION FOR THE PART-TIME FINANCE MANAGER

Purpose of Role

To provide professional advice, information and reports to Trustees and the CEO on all aspects of the Union’s financial and operational performance to enable sustainability and future growth for the organisation. As a member of the Union’s management team, the post holder will provide finance and management reports and ensure all accounting and financial controls are performed in line with good accountancy practice.

Financial Management:

· To be responsible for the management of the Union’s financial affairs ensuring internal and external statutory and

regulatory obligations are met.

· To provide information, advice and guidance to the CEO and Trustees reporting on the ongoing financial viability of the Union and its activities as and when required including the compilation and coordination of budgets and forecasts.

· To ensure appropriate cash flow and investments for the organisation at all times, advising the CEO.

· To coordinate the management of the Unions finances, overseeing the accounting for income, expenditure, and assets, making recommendations for efficiencies and savings in order to obtain value for money.

· To safeguard all the assets of the Union by ensuring that control processes are in place to accurately record asset details in line with the Union’s financial procedures.

· To lead on the budget preparation process to compile, analyse and draft the organisation’s budget each year.

· To manage and develop robust financial systems to suit the organisation’s growing and changing needs under direction of the CEO.

· To ensure that all Union staff and Officers comply with the correct financial systems, procedures and controls and ensure that all statutory requirements are in place.

Financial Operations:

· To oversee accruals, prepayments, stock and depreciation monthly and post journals.

· To prepare for and attend management account meetings with the CEO and the Trustee Board Finance and Audit and Risk sub-committee meetings when requested.

· To produce reports on balance sheet reviews, and twice-yearly reforecast reports.

· Responsible for maintaining the Fixed Asset register, and review of capital investment.

· Manage the Union’s Cash Flow and prepare Cash flow forecasts as necessary.

· Monitor Balance Sheet control accounts ensuring reconciled.

· Overseeing good standards of credit control to ensure that the organisation is distributing monthly statements and debt chasing letters and where necessary instigating legal action for the recovery of funds.

· To analyse VAT transactions and produce the VAT return quarterly

· To submit the annual report and approved accounts to the Charity Commission and other bodies as appropriate and within deadline.

· To ensure the accurate accounting and authorisation of the Clubs and Societies monies and ensure that all expenditure is spent according to Union guidelines.

Staff Management:

· To ensure the smooth running of the Finance Office by overseeing the line management of the finance team.

· To ensure that the finance team produce all data accurately, on time and in the appropriate format adhering to the strict deadlines for both internal & external set tasks.

· To promote a positive working environment and a motivated finance team.

· To provide leadership, direction and coaching for finance team and to set an example of being results focused and aiming for excellence.

· To complete Personal Development Reviews with each member of the finance team.

· To manage, develop and train the finance team in accordance with the Union HR procedures, to ensure that they are meeting or exceeding agreed targets relating to performance, quality of service and standards and taking appropriate action if these targets are not met.

Charity People are delighted to be partnering with The Migraine Trust, a small, ambitious charity which is dedicated to helping people affected by migraine, to bring on board an Information Manager.

The Migraine Trust is the only UK migraine charity providing information and support, campaigning for awareness and change, and funding and promoting research, and has been leading and bringing the migraine community together since 1965. One in seven people in the UK live with migraine. This complex and debilitating neurological disorder can significantly affect many aspects of life including work, school, personal relationships, and feelings of isolation.

Every year over two million people visit The Migraine Trust website for the most up to date information, and thousands contact the helplines for information and support on all aspects of migraine. The Migraine Trust campaign for increased awareness and understanding of migraine, better access to treatment, and national policy change to improve the lives of people who get it.

The Information Manager will coordinate and develop a range of health information needed by the migraine community and people living with migraine to raise awareness to both members of the public and health care professionals. The role is also responsible for ensuring the information on the website is up to date and coordinating and managing Patient Information Forum renewals.

Key responsibilities

• Produce and maintain quality health information: You will manage and update health information, scope, plan, and create new content in consultation with stakeholders, and identify target groups to produce materials to meet their needs. You will work within the Information and Support team constantly communicating with colleagues working on front line services to ensure the information being produced is in line with service users needs. You will also be responsible for managing the organisations PIF processes and assessments.
• Engage with the migraine community: You will hold focus groups to understand information needs, build strategic partnerships to disseminate information effectively, and support staff learning and knowledge-building about migraine.
• Support communication and dissemination: You will work with the Communications team to create accessible information formats, provide content for videos, blogs, and other communication channels and regularly monitor and report on the impact of information provision.
• Research: You will act as the key point of communication for the research committee, manage administrative duties for research funding applications and grants, and coordinate research meetings and liaise with funded researchers for project updates.
• Represent and support the charity: You will represent The Migraine Trust at external events and build relationships with healthcare professionals and stakeholders.

The Information Manager will have solid experience of communicating complex health information to audiences in written and online formats, as well as proven experience of producing information from the research stage through to writing, external review and liaising with designers. The successful candidate will have the ability to gain an in-depth understanding of medical and health related information, including research and critical analysis skills to develop an evidence base. You will have experience working within a health communication environment, with excellent verbal and written communication skills, and meticulous attention to detail with demonstrable editing and proofreading skills. You will have the ability to liaise with key stakeholders, be a self-starter with an ability to work independently and as part of a team and be able to work to tight deadlines. You will have knowledge and understanding of the benefits of patient engagement to produce health information.

The role is home-based with meetings in London once every 3 months which will include overnight stays and some ad hoc national travel. All travel/overnight expenses are covered. They are happy to explore flexible working options for the right candidate. The post will be subject to satisfactory references.

Role Purpose

The role holder will be part of the Operations & Transformation Directorate reporting to the Head of PMO / Change and Delivery Lead.

The incumbent will have a pivotal role in the management of change, implementation and continuous improvement projects, mostly in the digital and IDS sphere. • Creating project plans & mapping dependencies from bottom-up in collaboration with key stakeholders
• Define and track project milestones and ensure dependencies are understood and accepted by the relevant owners
• Report on the status of projects and ensure the appropriate governance and compliance is applied
• Coordinate and facilitate the delivery of a complex range of initiatives and/or projects

Essential:

• Project/Programme qualification e.g. APM, PRINCE2, MSP; experience working with both Waterfall and Agile methodologies

The Role 
 
As our Policy Officer you will use the latest evidence and insight to drive the creation of policies and position statements and related key messages. The subject of these will be informed by the charity’s strategy as well as our priority setting processes but will largely be focused around: 

• Prevention - Reducing smoking rates particularly focusing on people who are already interacting with the health system, as well as other messaging around reducing risk of cancer. 

• Diagnosis - Improving the early diagnosis of cancer through promoting existing and new pathways for cancer diagnosis.

• Treatment - Improving treatments available to patients across Yorkshire and improving access to clinical trials. 

Specifically, you will: 

Policy development 

• Work with the Policy and Public Affairs Manager to research and produce high quality, evidence-based cancer-related policies and position statements.

• Work with relevant internal teams to create key messages for a range of internal and external stakeholders, ensuring these are in line with the latest evidence. 

• Ensure existing policies and position statements are kept up to date, taking ownership for these updates when new evidence is published. 

Influencing 

• Develop written policy materials and reports to aid influencing, considering priorities identified by PPI groups, the NHS, and coupled with insights from the latest data. 

• Support the charity’s response to regional and national consultations relevant to cancer in Yorkshire, ensuring responses are clear, succinct and evidence-based.

• Represent the charity at external events and meetings, developing contacts, building relationships and increasing the charity’s profile. 

External communications 

• Work in collaboration with the Brand and Relationships team to support the delivery of public-facing brand and PR campaigns and messaging to ensure key policy messages are accurate and well-integrated.

• Support idea generation, development and delivery of future public health campaigns where the focus could be on topics like screening, stopping smoking or cancer symptom awareness. 

 
About You 

To be considered for this role, you will need: 

• To have a degree in a relevant subject area, for example politics and government affairs, public policy etc.  

• To have experience of researching and writing evidence-based policies, including by conducting literature reviews.

• To have experience of writing associated policy documentation such as briefings, letters, blogs and campaign materials.

• To have experience of working with others to integrate key messages into external communications, such as blogs, press releases or campaigns. 

• To have a good understanding of a good understanding of local, regional, and national government, the current health policy landscape as well as knowledge of UK parliamentary processes.   

• To have excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills. 

• To be a strategic thinker with strong analytical, judgement and decision-making skills. 

• To be able to sift out the essential elements from a mass of complex information, integrate and synthesise ideas, and present information to others in an accessible way.
