ACT is an established charity paying grants to actors to bring stability and opportunity to their children.

None of ACT’s main fund is endowed so the Trustees must ensure new income to maintain reasonable reserves. In recent years ACT has received fewer legacies and donations from individuals, but we have been able to draw down from capital to supplement income. However, with the current low growth in investments, ACT must now diversity our income streams to support existing services.

Fundraising brief

We believe grant-making Trusts and Foundations are a significant source of potential income. The Trustees are seeking an experienced freelance trust fundraiser to raise an initial minimum target of £70,000 to support our ongoing children’s activity grants and projects.

· Fee: £350 - £450 per day (dependent on experience)

· Timescale for work: Sept 2024 - 31st March 2025

· 50 - 60 days work

The freelance fundraiser will identify parcels of work and potential funders. You will write bids and lead on the process, acting on the charity’s behalf as the main point of contact. You will report to Jane Foy, an ACT Trustee who is herself a professional fundraiser. Data will be provided by ACT’s head of family support and executive director.

ACT’s supports a niche group of beneficiaries. Our work is not project-based but may be parcelled into clusters of specific impact. This role is therefore likely to appeal to a fundraiser with experience in making a compelling case for a charity that is harder to fund.

Who we are looking for

A self-motivated and an effective freelance fundraiser with a strong track record of securing grant funding for a national organisation. Well-developed relationships with grant makers and knowledge of specialist funds. Excellent research and writing skills with ability to develop outcomes in line with funder’s expectations.

Deliverables

Delivering a case for support, for different areas of ACT’s work (see below).

A range of applications made on behalf of ACT between September 2024 and March 2025 to generate minimum £70,000.

Daily agreed rate will be inclusive of all expenses. There is option for a desk space at our office in Bloomsbury or flexible work from home.

ACT was founded in 1896 as the Actors’ Orphanage Fund.

In the year to 31 March 2024:

ACT funded 377 children, from 244 actors’ families.

Grants totalled just under £400,000 including (rounded figures):

£150,000 for clubs and activities

£110,000 for childcare

£50,000 for laptops, school trips, uniforms, lunches, transport

£30,000 specifically funding SEND additional needs support

£25,000 to enable PIPA to give parents access to theatre work

£10,000 towards new babies’ costs and kit

£10,000 for sixth-formers

£6,000 start-up grants for university students

£5,000 for children’s clothes, bedding and furniture

Families were in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

We are looking for a motivated and expert HR Professional, to develop and implement strategic HR initiatives to support the implementation of Young Roots’ strategy, with a particular focus on our culture, staff wellbeing, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Tenebrae is one of the world’s leading vocal ensembles, renowned for its core values of passion and precision. Since the choir began in 2001, we have aimed to move and inspire audiences all over the world through dramatic programming and immersive experiences.

The Development Manager will be responsible for:

• Working with the CEO to refresh and implement our 3-year fundraising strategy;
• Fundraising from Trusts, Foundations, individuals and corporates to support the charity’s core costs as well as artistic and educational initiatives;

The MSA Trust is a small national charity with a large reach, offering vital support to people affected by multiple system atrophy, a devastating neuro degenerative disease, and funding much needed research into the cause and a cure.
The Finance Officer is responsible for working within the core MSA Trust office team to provide finance support to the wider programme delivery and our regional staff team of health care professionals.

The Food Chain exists to ensure people living with HIV in London can access the nutrition they need to get well, stay well and lead healthy, independent lives. We deliver meals, groceries and formula milk, run cookery and nutrition classes, and hold twice-weekly communal meals for some of the most vulnerable and isolated people living with HIV in London. 

We are the only HIV Nutrition specialist charity in the UK: we exist at the intersection between HIV, food poverty and social isolation. Everyone accessing our services is referred by a health or social care professional who has identified that they are experiencing crisis. Each person receives a personalised Dietetic Assessment from one of our HIV Specialist Dietitians, designed specifically to meet their needs. By offering a tailored package of support, at the appropriate time, we help people to lead healthy, independent lives.

The Director of Income Generation & Partnerships, along with the Director of Services & Development, lead the organisation's small staff team to deliver vital services to an average of 500 people every year. The Director of Income Generation is a vital link in The Food Chain, ensuring income is secured to enable the delivery and sustainability of all our services and activities, and setting the organisation’s strategic direction for the achievement of our charitable purpose.

Since we were formed on Christmas Day 1988, The Food Chain has delivered food services to people living with HIV every week since. We were founded by volunteers, and are proud that volunteers are still key to the deliver of our charitable services. Position: Director of Income Generation & Partnerships

Strategic Management

• Contribute to the development of The Food Chain’s strategic and operational plans and ensure income is secured for their effective delivery in line with all relevant legislation, best practice and The Food Chain’s values

About the Organisation

Together We Learn is a small international development charity with a vision to break the cycle of poverty in Ethiopia by enabling disadvantaged children to access quality education.

We have been working closely with our Ethiopian partner organisation for over 25 years to achieve this. Our UK team is a small, close- knit team that supports the fundraising, international communications, and project delivery of the Ethiopian team.

Our approach is to work alongside state education infrastructure, addressing a range of needs related to access to and quality of education, as well as children’s wellbeing.

Our work with schools includes school infrastructure projects - providing safe, local schools - and supporting teachers with training and resources to inspire children to flourish in the classroom. We also work closely with the children, their families and communities to understand and address the issues they face at home and how these impact their ability to attend and concentrate in school.

We are at the start of a new strategic phase with a focus on building the capacity of our Ethiopian partner organisation to shift the power and be more locally-led in our work.

We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with a connection to Ethiopia, or from the African diaspora.

Project Coordinator

The Role: The Project Coordinator supports our Ethiopian Projects team deliver, monitor, evaluate and report on our various project activities. The role involves regular communication with both our regional project teams and management, supporting the team to meet project deadlines, driving continual programme improvement through monitoring, evaluation and learning, and supporting the UK Chief Executive with project reporting and funding proposals.

Reports to: Chief Executive
Hours: 15 hours per week (part-time role 40%)
Salary: £8,620 per annum (21,550 pro rata)
Location: London office, preference for hybrid working, remote applications considered, employee must be living in the UK.

Responsibilities

Supporting project delivery (70%)

• Regularly liaising with our project teams in Ethiopia to support them to monitor project deliverables alongside project plans in a timely manner and ensure changes are communicated to relevant parties
• Support with monitoring, evaluation and learning processes by ensuring monitoring and evaluation deadlines are met, collating, analysing and formatting data for review, leading discussions on impact review and supporting discussions for continuous programme development. Including managing office volunteers to support our work in these areas.
• Support the Ethiopian team to track and understand markers of good quality, sustainable projects and to continuously improve upon these.
• Supporting the Ethiopia team to develop projects, applying learning from evaluations and developing new project concepts.
• Supporting the team to include and prioritise beneficiary perspective to lead project design, implementation and monitoring procedures 
• Support the Ethiopian team to develop, include and adhere to all organisational policies and procedures, with special attention to safeguarding.

Fundraising (20%)

• Reporting to donors and funders on project delivery, ensuring deadlines for reporting are met, collating data and Ethiopian team feedback, and writing up funder reports in a timely manner.
• Supporting the Chief Executive to research potential funders and prepare and evidence funding proposals.
• Drafting template funder proposals.
• Occasionally attending funder events
• Support the UK team to communicate with supporters via monitoring the fundraising inbox, liaising with international volunteers, tour guests or other queries.

Other (10%)

• Support with building the capacity of the Ethiopian team through working practices and training in relevant areas.
• Communicate about our work with stakeholders via writing blogs, newsletter and Annual Report chapters.

The role of Dose of Nature’s Development Manager is a permanent, high-level role which will continue to evolve as the work of Dose of Nature grows over the coming years. The post involves creating and implementing a fundraising strategy, supporting the Chief Executive with financial planning, and providing clear long-term direction to income generation.

The Development Manager will work directly with the Chief Executive to devise a long-term development strategy, identify and secure funding partners, and produce relevant and compelling funding proposals. Currently the main sources of funding are from trust and foundation grants and local council health care grants. Going forward the Development Manager will grow the funding stream from trusts and foundations and look to solidify the donations from locals. As the charity develops there will also be opportunities of securing funding from the corporate sector, helping to secure Dose of Nature’s future.

The role requires a focused and detail-oriented mindset, entrepreneurial flair, business development experience, excellent written communication and interpersonal skills, good time management and the ability to juggle several complicated tasks at once. It provides a fantastic opportunity for someone with a “can-do” attitude, someone who is passionate about supporting the aims of Dose of Nature and also who wants the freedom to make this role their own.

As with any small charity we hope to find someone who is multi-faceted in terms of their fundraising skill set, and within this, without being a communications specialist, we anticipate that the Development Manager will have experience of charity communications (although this is not the main focus of the role). Ideally the Development Manager will be able to help with creating a communications strategy, support communication tools such as newsletters and social media, and identify any opportunities that may help Dose of Nature grow.

Dose of Nature has an annual turnover of approximately £400,000, of which 75% is currently raised from trust and foundation grants along with donations from individuals. The Development Manager will be responsible for maintaining this income and also securing significant new funding during 2024-25. With a good network of local support, the Development Manager will have the advantage of having a database of supporters to work with and there is the potential to create an individual appeal or giving scheme. Currently the Chief Executive makes all funding applications to trusts and foundations and these relationships will be passed on to the Development Manager who will be expected to nurture these and secure grants from new sources.

The Head of Support Services will work with the Director of Support Services to create a positive, supportive culture of personal growth, underpinned by a holistic and empowering health and wellbeing approach.​​

Supported by the trustees, the CEO, staff and service users, the postholder will be a leader and will provide a constant stimulus for self-improvement in a learning, supportive and diverse environment. A candidate with a proven track record of delivery, they will provide high level and efficient management of Betknowmore UK support and community programmes, including all three primary services, GOALS, New Beginnings and Peer Aid, as well as bespoke projects which include the development of Hubs within key London Boroughs and creating digital activities.​

The postholder will work to ensure impactful service provision and outcomes; recruit, train and supervise a team of staff/mentors/volunteers to deliver support and community activities; and oversee service integration and collaboration with the National Gambling Support Network (NGSN) partners and other key stakeholders.​

A key aspect of the role will be to work closely with people presenting with gambling-harm issues and/or people impacted by someone else's gambling. The Head of Support Services will oversee sustainable recovery interventions which may include structured psycho-social 1:1 ​and group activities, counselling and therapy, peer and mentoring support, with services ​co-produced by clinicians and health professionals, and insight and knowledge from experts ​by experience. ​

The candidate should demonstrate previous experience of management and oversight of similar programmes of work, within mental health, addiction or community NHS or voluntary sectors. ​

Experience of gambling support and treatment and/or harm minimisation programmes is desirable, but not essential.​

Working with other members of the Senior Management Team, they will input into the management of the charity, as well as supporting grant, contract and tender submissions, operational management, governance, performance and contract monitoring and outcome reporting. Key responsibilities and accountabilities​

Development and Delivery ​

• Manage the strategic and operational performance of services to agreed standards and targets with the Director of Support Services and CEO.​
• Provide management oversight to service teams and ensure the activities they are leading on are delivered to set quality and outcomes, that they are safe and operate in positive environments, and adequately supervised, monitored, audited and reviewed.​
• Provide management oversight to the charity’s portfolio of programmes and projects, including those within the National Gambling Support Network (NGSN)​
• Ensure strategic & performance coverage of all areas of service delivery outlined in the services’ SLAs.​
• Review service delivery and implement necessary changes, to ensure high quality service, reflecting best practice and clear impact for all service users.​
• Conduct regular supervision with staff and service users about service effectiveness and maximise client involvement in service design and development.​

Monitoring and Evaluation​

• Produce a monthly service review, linked to the charity’s strategy and business plan.​
• Manage monitoring and evaluation framework and oversee CMS/CRM systems.​
• Liaise with external support networks, such as universities and research organisations, to aid data management requirements.​

Line Management​

• Ensure staff are recruited, supervised and developed in accordance with Betknowmore UK systems and processes, in particular annual planning and review and objective setting.​
• Support the provision of staff training to the highest standard and in accordance with Betknowmore quality assurance standards ​
• Provide HR support and on-going staff line management.​
• Liaise with Clinical Supervisor to ensure staff have adequate support and resources.​
• Contribute to the development of services knowledge and practice, by keeping up to date with current research and practice and ensuring that the clinical and support approach of the teams reflects such current information as appropriate.​

Partnerships Building and Collaboration​

• Develop our operational and strategic relationship with external partners and stakeholders to maximise the success and impact of Betknowmore UK services.​
• Co-ordinate Betknowmore UK contribution to service-related networks ensuring attendance at relevant operational and strategic meetings and provide feedback and sharing of information.​
• Represent the organisation at events, webinars and other meetings to inform service development and promote best practice in service delivery.​

Financial Management​

• Oversee budgets and expenditure related to the services and help meet targets.​
• Provide oversight to petty cash and day to day expenses.​
• Assist with other fundraising associated with service development as agreed with Senior Management Team.​

Health and Safety Responsibilities​

• Ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff, clients and other beneficiaries is intact.​
• Oversee Betknowmore UK premises and risk assess external sites, ensuring all working environments work correctly to policies and procedures. ​
• Ensure that Betknowmore UK Diversity and Equality policies are upheld.​

General​

• Attend regular supervision sessions with the Director of Support Services.​

The Magpie Project supports women with preschool children who are living in temporary or insecure accommodation in Newham and other London boroughs. We provide stay-and-play sessions alongside casework around housing, immigration, and other related issues, plus healthy home-made food, a baby bank, and a focus on high-quality play and creativity for mums and minis to foster a sense of joy and belonging.
We advocate and campaign, alongside our mums, on the issues which have the greatest impact on their lives. We have grown quickly since our birth in 2017, and we now support over 500 families a year with 11 members of staff and a turnover of approximately £500,000 pa.
We are in a positive position with regards to our fundraising and finances, with several long-term core grants as well as smaller project grants, a number of corporate partners who donate both time and money to the project, and a loyal community of individual donors and fundraisers.

We are looking for someone with a passion for writing and communicating with donors of different kinds.
