Role Summary
As Head of Fundraising and Business Development, you will be responsible for implementing an effective fundraising and income generation strategy aligned to the objectives of our organisational Strategic plan and with a strong emphasis on partnership building and relationship management.
We exist to create lasting change for those who are marginalised and vulnerable, so you will need to be driven by the passion to see lives changed and help generate income to support more of this valuable work.
You will need to work effectively and confidently as our lead for both contract tenders and renewals and charitable fundraising and be experienced in helping develop a mixed model of income generation.
Ideally, we are looking for someone with high level demonstrable experience in business development and major contract tenders, bid writing and building corporate partnerships.
You’ll be highly effective in building meaningful relationships with a wide demographic of stakeholders, from large corporates to individual donors, and will exemplify the passion and value that we carry for our service users and supporters.
You’ll need to know how to draw the best out of your team and work collaboratively across other departments, to ensure that we can continue to build on the work of the department to date and continue to strengthen Causeway’s resilience through diversification of income.
Responsibilities
Business Development Objectives
• Take the lead on Business Development for the charity by ensuring processes and procedures for supporting us to bid for and secure public sector contracts are robust and effective.
• Work with the Chief Operating Officer and relevant Head of Service on identifying and securing contractual funding opportunities.
• Develop and write tender bids to support us to secure new contracts
• Actively develop and strengthen relationships with external stakeholders and partners, with a view to achieving Causeway’s strategic objectives for income generation
Fundraising Strategy & Objectives
• Create and implement an effective Fundraising Strategy for the charity that applies the right balance of fundraising mechanisms, e.g. trusts, foundations, corporate philanthropy, events, individual giving and major donors, to achieve our organisational objectives.
• Work to established Fundraising targets and goals, considering strategic change and approach where any risk of shortfall is identified, to enable the development of charitable activities in response to established need
• Work collaboratively with the Impact and Evaluation team to ensure that all approaches for funds are underpinned and informed by our commitment to survivor voice, accurate data and performance information that demonstrates the value of our work.
• Establish clear mechanisms and strategies for converting engaged supporters and stakeholders into sustainable revenue streams
• Identify key opportunities to leverage the organisational brand and vision for the purpose of engaging with new external stakeholders/supporters
• Manage the operational activities of the fundraising team ensuring the workload of the department is effectively delivered to a high-quality standard.
• Oversee the development of Life Supply ensuring it continues to evolve and meet the needs of the survivors we support.
• Work in close collaboration with our communications team to ensure resonance and engagement with a diversity of supporters by creating and delivering impactful and compelling initiatives to maximise income from multiple audiences
• Ensure that a comprehensive, integrated and inspiring supporter journey is in place, ensuring engagement and retention of donors and embedding effective stewardship of relationships at the heart of the Fundraising and Business Development team.
• Champion diversity and inclusivity within the team, ensuring that the fundraising team and strategy give opportunity to engage supporters and donors from all backgrounds and walks of life
• Build person-focussed and authentic relationships with our funders, donors and key stakeholders, understanding their goals and motivations whilst representing the values of Causeway
Management & Leadership
• Play an instrumental role as part of the Senior Management Team in ensuring the charity 3-year strategic objectives are met, and input into implementing change and organisational development
• Provide recommendations to the Board in how the charity strategically plans and prioritises fundraising activities and campaigns throughout the year, in order to meet organisational objectives
• Create and embed a fundraising culture within the team and across the organisation
• Coach and inspire your Fundraising Team, motivating them to achieve their individual and department objectives and supporting their development through formal and informal processes
Data/Reporting/Compliance
• Provide a quarterly report to the CEO/Board of Trustees on Business Development and Fundraising outcomes and performance against budgeted targets and KPIs, as well as insightful analysis into prospected income
• Track and provide detailed reporting on income, working in collaboration with the Finance Dept
• Ensure compliance with the Charity Commission and Fundraising Regulator Codes of Conduct and regulations
• Ensure best practice in Fundraising protocol and procedure, acting as the leading insight and voice into societal trends and challenges in the fundraising climate, and adjust organisational approach and strategy as required, to respond to changes and opportunities
• Create ways of working that maximise consistent and regular obtaining and analysis of supporter data, whilst ensuring compliance with GDPR legislation

This role will lead in developing and professionalising our Operations teams. Making sure that the team deliver their key role in ensuring Marie Curies fundraising success. This is an exciting opportunity to set up and run a new team.
You will be responsible for:
- Delivering excellent support across all fundraising teams to ensure they are aided to achieve our income, recruitment and engagement objectives as effectively as possible.
- Improving fundraising approach to support activities, ensuring it is aligned, efficient, and supporting teams across Fundraising to improve their support focused activity whilst ensuring our donors have great support experiences.
- Ensuring the team delivers end-to-end operational delivery of campaigns and products, leading on the sign-off of solutions and ensuring rigorous user acceptance testing of solutions.
- Ensuring Community Fundraising and other Fundraising teams are fully and appropriately supported to ensure the fundraising time is maximized and that supporters have excellent experiences.
- Working with the Web and Technology teams to ensure the Operations team maximises the use of technology to optimize the effectiveness and efficiency of support activity, including self-service if / where appropriate.
Key Criteria:
- Strong, demonstrable experience in an operations role with back office, team support and/or Fulfilment.
- Excellent relationship-building skills across a significant number of clients/teams.
- Experience working with and influencing senior stakeholders.
- Big-picture thinking with a strategic and continuous improvement approach.
- Ability to successfully manage and deliver projects on a larger scale.
- Experience streamlining processes and operations across multiple teams/scenarios.

Job Title: Events Fundraising Officer
Reports to: Challenge Events Manager

About the Team:
The Supplier Partnerships team sits within the Supporter Experience and Operations Team at WaterAid and aspires to deliver sector-leading supporter care, excellent supplier management and contracting expertise and effective internal & external response handling operations. The team exists to champion the supporter experience across the organisation and ensure this remains consistent at every touch point.
About the Role:
As our Supplier Partnerships Manager, you will manage the Supplier Partnerships sub-team, reporting into the Supporter Experience & Operations Lead. The Supplier Partnerships Team plays a central role in supporting our fundraising teams to maximise supporter engagement through the selection and performance management of our key external service partners. This team are a centre of subject expertise and will also ensure we have well defined and consistently applied approaches to supplier management across the Mass Engagement department.
In this role, you will actively manage a small portfolio of strategic fundraising service suppliers, ensuring contractual requirements are met, as well as defining and monitoring service levels (SLAs) to ensure performance is maintained.
You’ll also:
- Effectively lead, manage, and motivate the Supplier Partnerships team, ensuring each member of the team makes a full and effective contribution to the organisation
- Maintain a network of key stakeholders within WaterAid, ensuring that their needs and responsibilities relating to supplier management are understood
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the team, proactively identifying opportunities for improvement or efficiency gains where these contribute to the overall supporter experience
- Act as the subject matter expert for supplier management, promoting and championing best practice within the wider organisation, providing specialist advice and training as required
- Maintain a level of awareness of external trends and best practice in supplier operations and procurement, ensuring that WaterAid are at the leading edge in terms of our services and standards
- Work with the Supporter Experience and Operations Lead in developing detailed budgets, forecasts, and plans
About You:
To be successful, you’ll need:
- Excellent supplier management / relationship management, ideally in a charity fundraising environment
- Successful experience of people management, coaching, training, and personal development
- Demonstrable experience of using / designing KPIs, SLAs and other performance metrics to drive process and service quality improvements
- Strong stakeholder relationship management (up to senior management), able to work collaboratively to build positive and effective working relationships across teams
- Ability to identify problems, undertake analysis and deliver potential solutions through influencing and negotiating with others
Although not essential, we also prefer you to have:
- A good understanding of fundraising regulations i.e. Fundraising Code of Practice, Gift Aid and BACs (Direct Debit) regulations
- Professional qualification in supplier / service procurement or directly relevant experience

The Role
To deliver on our new strategy and exciting capital and activity Masterplan, Wonderseekers is growing its Fundraising Team. The Head of Major Gifts is a pivotal new role within this team: working closely with the Director of Fundraising and managing a small team of experienced Trusts & Foundations (T&F) fundraisers, to achieve an initial target of circa £3.5 million within the next two years.
Accomplished at assimilating and interpreting complex information to craft compelling, high-level funding proposals, the post holder will lead and coordinate project fundraising campaigns to achieve the individual project targets, ensuring the highest quality of funding approach and donor stewardship across the Major Gifts Team.
In addition to managing and supporting the in-house T&F Managers and freelance T&F fundraisers to secure five and six figure grants, the post holder will develop and manage their own portfolio of major T&Fs and high net worth individual (HNWI) donors contributing circa £1 million towards the overall initial target. Working with the Director of Fundraising, they will play a lead role in establishing a strong and loyal major donor base of organisations and HNWI for the Charity in anticipation of future funding needs.
The post holder will have impeccable interpersonal and presentation skills and be comfortable representing the Charity and engaging with senior internal and external stakeholders at the highest level.
This is an exciting opportunity for a senior fundraiser to become an influential member of the Charity’s Leadership Team. Following achievement of the initial target, the Head of Major Gifts will play a strategic role in designing and implementing future fundraising campaigns (for “business as usual” and special projects) to support the Charity’s strategic plan and maximise its social impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Charity to achieve its strategic goals by generating the fundraising income required to deliver core activity and development works
- Be an active member of the organisation’s Leadership Team, attending strategic planning sessions to keep abreast of the Charity’s future projects pipeline, identify funding opportunities and help colleagues to understand and support the fundraising process
- Deputise for the Director of Fundraising as required
- Lead and coordinate agreed fundraising campaigns, including developing project cases for support, researching/building funding pipelines and writing cultivation and stewardship plans
- Manage a personal portfolio of T&Fs and HNWIs, conducting research, developing and implementing bespoke cultivation plans, preparing and delivering high-level funding proposals and providing exceptional stewardship
- Manage and support the Major Gift Team, coordinating the team’s fundraising activity, ensuring that approaches, applications and stewardship are in line with fundraising regulations, the Charity’s Fundraising Promise, are of a consistently high quality and provide regular progress reports to the Director of Fundraising
- Work with the Director of Fundraising, other members of the Senior Leadership Team, Trustees and the Charity’s Volunteer Leaders to develop and grow a HNWI funding pipeline, conducting contact mapping and other research, producing briefing notes, working with senior stakeholders to develop and implement cultivation plans and organising information / cultivation events
- Work with the Head of Impact & Learning to plan and deliver project impact reports for funders
Person Specification:
Experience and Knowledge
- Experienced T&F fundraiser with a good working knowledge of the sector
- Experience of managing and cultivating T&F and HNWI prospects#
- Experience of securing and managing six and seven figure grants
