We’re recruiting for a new Head of Fundraising and Communications to build on the growth and development we’ve experienced in recent years, and move us to the next level. 

You will work closely with senior leadership to raise crucial funding, public support and awareness to underpin our organisational strategy, and with colleagues across the organisation to gather and communicate stories and information in a powerful and accessible way. 

This is a ‘doing’ role as well as a senior one. It’s also a wide role and you won’t be expected to be an expert at everything, so we are looking for someone with the knowledge, confidence and strategic approach to play to your strengths and those of your team, while drawing in other expertise and capacity where needed. 

This is an exciting and inspiring opportunity for the right person, both in terms of the role itself, but also the key part you’ll play in helping to enable survivors to recover and rebuild their lives.

Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week or part-time (0.8FTE)

Salary: £50,000 starting salary with annual increments based on tenure

Medact brings together health workers to fight for health justice. We recognise that health injustice is driven by political, social and economic conditions, and we mobilise the health community to take action to achieve systemic change, working together towards a fairer, better, safer world.

We address some of the most pressing national and global threats to health and wellbeing including climate change, human rights abuses, militarism, nuclear weapons, institutional racism, and rising health and social inequality. We are a member-led organisation, and our members are made up of people who work in health and social care including nurses, doctors, midwives, and clinical researchers. We strive to embed anti-oppressive politics in our work and governance.

Medact has grown significantly over the last five years and is in an exciting new period as an organisation. As we develop our next five-year strategy we are looking to refine our campaigning and organising practice and grow our membership base to secure long lasting victories in our campaigns for health justice. 

About the role 

The new Executive Director will be responsible for leading the organisation in developing a new strategy to guide us through the next phase growth, while leading the team through an new political climate.

Grants fundraising is of particular importance to the role, and the successful candidate will be the lead person responsible for securing funding for our campaigning and organising work and maintaining strong relationships with donors. 

Our Executive Director will lead an experienced team and an organisation that deeply values collaborative working, consultative decision making, and a commitment to transparency. 

About you

We are looking for someone who is passionate about addressing health, climate, racial and economic injustice and the health impacts of conflict and militarisation, and who understands the vital role that health professionals have in making the connections between these issues and working for peace, to make the world a better, fairer and safer place.

You will have an understanding of the national and international framework within which Medact operates, and you will be able to demonstrate that your values and politics align with those of our organisation. Ideally you will have experience of working in health or with health workers, so that you have an appreciation of the culture within which they work and the potential of their contribution.

You will have strong leadership skills so that, valuing the collaborative approach of our team and respecting varying views, you are able to arrive at clear decisions. You will also have a track record in fundraising in similar fields and a good knowledge of a range of potential supporters.

About the Role

As Principal Consultant in the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) portfolio, you will be critical in expanding and enhancing the portfolio’s work. This will include developing bids for evaluations and other contracts, leading the delivery of evaluation contracts and growing the network and reputation of SDDirect. The Principal Consultant will be expected to apply feminist values and gender equality, disability and social inclusion (GEDSI) technical expertise to the design and delivery of complex and multi-country evaluations.  Please read on to learn more about the company, team and role, and the kind of applicants we are looking for.

Summary of role

Reports to: Head of Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Portfolio

Direct reports: Up to 3 reportees.

Location: UK-based candidates must be eligible to work in the UK upon appointment. SDDirect's Head Office is located in Old Street, London. We operate a hybrid working model with flexibility on the frequency of office visits, which can be discussed further during the recruitment process.

Appointment term: Full-time and Part-time hours will be considered. A minimum of 4 days is required. This is a permanent contract.

Remuneration Package: This role is Band E, with a salary range of £55,000 - £85,000. Salary upon appointment will be commensurate with experience and in line with team members in equivalent roles.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Principal Consultant in the MEL Portfolio, you will focus on providing technical and thought leadership in feminist evaluation. You will lead complex, multi-country and mixed-methods evaluations, which will focus on GEDSI as it relates to one of our SDDirect portfolios. You may also be involved in designing and delivering research across our other portfolios. In addition to delivery, you will also be involved in winning new work, leading evaluation, research or MEL bid development and raising SDDirect’s external profile and reputation.

Technical Design, Delivery & Leadership

· Design and deliver a range of mixed-methods evaluations, often in shifting and unpredictable contexts, including impact, formative, summative or process evaluations with a GEDSI focus. This will include the design of the approach, data collection tools and methodologies (surveys, interviews, focus group discussions, workshops, etc.) and analysis of the data collected.

· Support the development of SDDirect’s body of knowledge and practice on feminist evaluation, staying up to date with current thinking on models, methods, good practice and relevant debates.

· Provide leadership to SDDirect contracts as relevant, including project management responsibilities, client liaison, and support to and technical leadership of consultancy teams.

· To use negotiation and diplomacy skills and to confidently manage challenging conversations.

· To ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, to high-quality standards, and in keeping with SDDirect’s ethics and ethos.

· To provide support to SDDirect’s other portfolios (Equal Education, Safeguarding, Green Economies and Infrastructure, Governance and Inclusive Societies, Gender-Based Violence), as appropriate on MEL or in research design and delivery.

· To provide technical support to other members of the MEL portfolio to support their growth and development. This would include providing actionable and constructive quality assurance and feedback to other team members.   

Raising SDDirect’s Profile

· To establish and maintain close relationships and effective networks with our clients, partners and consultants, drawing on their own professional networks. 

· To represent SDDirect at meetings, conferences and on social media and ensure that SDDirect’s work on GEDSI and evaluation is disseminated and profiled externally in a clear and accessible way, especially with key fora in the MEL sector.

· To provide internal thought leadership and professional development activities on MEL, raising the capacity of other staff on MEL.

Business Development

To contribute to the growth of SDDirect’s portfolio of work in this technical area, through:

· Identifying areas of growth and new business opportunities through close and direct contact with clients, potential clients, partners, potential partners, in-house staff and external consultants.

· Supporting the Business Development Team in identifying relevant opportunities to expand the portfolio and pipeline.

· Act as technical lead on MEL bids, bringing a rigorous understanding of evaluation design and GEDSI relevant analytical frameworks for relevant bids and proposals to clients.

· Engaging with and influencing emerging opportunities and delivery concepts and ensuring SDDirect’s MEL offering is responsive to market requirements and aligns with SDDirect’s equitable partnership principles.

The charity is looking to appoint a part time head of finance and IT to help take the organisation to the next stage of its development. This is a pivotal senior leadership role responsible for the financial and technology functions of the charity and its trading company.

This multifaceted position requires a hard working pragmatic and practical strategic thinker who can ensure sound financial management, accountancy and administration, and drive technological innovation as appropriate.

Reporting to the chief executive, you'll have a proven track record in financial accountancy and IT management and an interest in corporate governance. It's very important to have a strong commercial understanding as you'll need to provide sound business advice and support.

Degree level education and/or senior level experience is preferred. Professional body recognition and membership such as ACCA or CIMA and/or relevant IT certifications would be advantageous.

A familiarity with non-profit/charity sector regulations, compliance and financial reporting would be useful but is not essential.

You're likely to have experience in managing digital transformation and IT contracts, and an interest in information technology trends, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.

Proficiency is required in financial software (Sage preferred), IT systems and Microsoft Office.

Good leadership, collaborative working, communication and interpersonal skills are important for this role.

You'll need to be able to think strategically as well as being adept at dealing with the detail - so strong management, analytical and administration skills are all important.

As the company secretary, the role includes responsibilities to ensure compliance with charity and financial regulatory requirements.

You should have an interest in journalism and appreciate its importance in our democratic society. You'll identify with our values as a charity.

Purpose of the Assistant Curator role is to:

• To support the work of the Archives and Library team in enabling access and understanding of the collections

Key responsibilities of our Assistant Curator include:

Access and Research 

• Facilitate access to the collections and information relating to and contained within them according to Department policies and procedures
• Answer requests for information received from Museum colleagues, visiting researchers and external enquirers within agreed timeframes
• Supervise and assist researchers using the Museum’s reading room. • Disseminate knowledge through the delivery of agreed and supported outputs including but not limited to the undertaking of outreach activity, exhibition and digital content
• Build and enhance your knowledge of RAF history including the development of knowledge of the collections held by the Department
• Contribute to the Museum’s Research Programme by undertaking research and through the delivery of agreed and supported outputs including, but not limited to, talks and blogs 3

Stewardship 

• Assist in caring for the Museum’s Archive and Library collections as directed and in accordance with Museum policies and procedures as well as sector best practice guidelines
• Assist as directed in developing the Archive and Library collections through the acquisition and disposal of material and liaison with stakeholders
• Document and catalogue the collections to enhance access and research use in line with Museum policies and procedures and Spectrum standards.
• Contribute to the Museum’s digitisation programmes, undertaking digitisation of documents, recording metadata and uploading to the Museum’s databases

Administration and Departmental Support 

• Supervise volunteers as required
• Collect data and provide reports both in writing and through presentations and discussion as required
• Contribute actively to business risk management and Health and Safety management
• Support cross - departmental teams as required.

What we are looking for in our Assistant Curator:

• High level of knowledge related to Museum practice and administration gained through employment or a relevant qualification.
• Experience of using Collections Management systems, including Collections Management databases
• Demonstrable experience of working with archive and library collections
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent Microsoft Office software skills
• Demonstrable experience of working within a team

What this role entails?

Bristol Old Vic Theatre School history is rooted in philanthropy and the altruism of their alumni, notably Julian Slade whose royalties of his much-loved musical Salad Days helped in purchasing their buildings at Downside Road. In recent years, however, fundraising and alumni engagement has lain dormant - only 1% of income in 2023-4 was generated by fundraising and philanthropy.

· The Head of Development needs to secure £1.5m across the fundraising mix by summer 2025 and further ambitious sums in subsequent years

· Fostering active philanthropic relationships with high profile alumni and high net worth individuals to deliver transformational gifts and legacy pledges.

· Delivering on the ambitious, purpose-driven fundraising strategy

· Fostering positive relationships with key stakeholders across the organisation and city.

It’s a hugely exciting time for the Charity, with the appointment of a new CEO and Director of Income & Engagement to lead an ambitious period of growth. The Head of Individual Giving will provide strategic leadership to the Individual Giving team and leading a programme set to raise £4.1m this year. This role will lead an audience-focused approach to achieve long term sustainable income growth and increasing the number of long-term supporters over the next three years, with the ambition to increase income by 21% in 2017.

Key duties include:

• Develop and deliver a multi-year IG strategy to grow the active donor base, maximising long term sustainable income from all individual giving income streams.
• Oversee and optimise the prestigious BBC Radio 4 Christmas Appeal for donor acquisition and development, as well as leading on the diversification of supporter engagement outside of this appeal period.
• Take an active role in contributing to the development of the Charity’s wider Income Generation and Engagement Strategy, ensuring a seamless approach to lifetime supporter engagement. This includes working proactively with the wider team to develop and refine an engaging case for support to represent the Charity’s programmes authentically.
• Manage an experienced team of 3 direct reports, leading on the development of an optimal team structure and ethos to hit ambitious income targets.
• Develop the legacy strategy including case for support, stewardship and marketing plans to engage both known and unknown supporters including members, philanthropists, financial supporters, followers and advocates.
• Contribute to a culture that embraces change, open communication, ambition, innovation, future-thinking and external focus.

We’re looking for the following skills & experience for this role:

• Extensive experience in developing and delivering Individual Giving strategic plans and budgets, with the ability to monitor and evaluate progress effectively.
• Demonstrated success in driving significant net income and long-term value by developing and executing individual giving acquisition and retention strategies.
• Proven track record in overseeing and managing all aspects of Individual Giving and Legacy Marketing.
• Skilled in agency management and evaluation to ensure high-quality outcomes.

Chance to Shine takes cricket to new places and uses it to ignite new passions, teach vital skills, unite diverse groups, and educate young people from Cornwall to Canterbury to County Durham. 
 

Since 2005 our Chance to Shine Schools programme has helped reverse the decline of cricket in state schools with millions of boys and girls in over 13,000 state schools playing and learning through cricket. Chance to Shine Street supports young people in under-served communities to access and benefit from cricket in a free, inclusive, fun and fast-paced tape ball environment. 
 

The Director of Strategy Implementation is an exciting Senior Management role which will help to deliver Chance to Shine’s strategic plans and further our ambitions for young people. 
 

In February 2024 we launched Limitless Futures, a four year strategic vision that outlines our ambitions to further improve wellbeing amongst young people, grow from working with 600,000 young people a year to one million by 2028, and continue to prioritise underserved communities (young people in areas of economic disadvantage and those who are inactive). It is based on extensive consultation with young people, teachers, families, delivery partners, coaches and others. It is underpinned by clearly defined goals and KPIs, and accountable to Chance to Shine’s Board of Trustees. The person in this role will work collaboratively with Senior Management colleagues and the wider team to deliver on and refine these plans. 
 

We are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic and efficient individual with a strong track record in collaborative working and delivering on ambitious projects to join a small and dynamic team. The person in this role does not need to have an understanding of cricket but must be driven to achieve ambitious plans to support young people’s wellbeing and development.  

We operate flexible working and as such team members currently work from the office (The Oval, London) on average about 2 days per week. This post-holder will need to be flexible as an when it is required to attend meetings, mostly in London but elsewhere around the country. 

 Please note that this role is a 12-month fixed term contract, less if the person you a covering returns from maternity leave earlier.

Purpose of the role 

 

The Director of Strategy Implementation will be part of the Senior Management Team and will work closely with the Chief Executive. 

The person in this role will oversee the implementation of the second year of strategy plans for Limitless Futures. They will collaborate with Fundraising, Operations, Communications, Finance and Impact colleagues to ensure progress is tracked and goals are met. In particular, they will work with the Head of Fundraising to ensure the fundraising plan needed to deliver this strategy is aligned to the wider organisations plans. 
 

The Director of Strategy Implementation will also own the delivery of specific projects to support the strategy. For example, but not limited to: design and implement a volunteering programme; develop a funding plan to increase the scale of work in secondary schools; embed youth voice practices into Chance to Shine work.

Insight and evidence underpin Chance to Shine’s strategy, and as such, the Director of Strategy Implementation will line manage the Head of Impact & Evaluation and provide guidance to the Impact team. 
 

Key Responsibilities

The Director of Strategy Implementation responsibilities include: 

·       The line management of Head of Impact & Evaluation, providing broader support to the Impact Department (three people) 

·       Providing guidance and advice to the Board, Chief Executive and Senior Management team on matters relating to Strategy and Impact.

·       Working with the Senior Management Team to ensure key organisational strategic aims and objectives are achieved within respective departments.

·       Leading on specific pieces of cross-departmental work which are of key strategic importance, including key Fundraising projects.

·       Working closely with the Head of Impact & Evaluation to ensure that we are leaders-in-our-field for demonstrating the difference our work makes to children and young people whilst always striving to improve.

About the role:

As an Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA), you will provide ongoing continuity, advocacy and impartial advice and information to all survivors accessing our service. Whilst you will be supporting all clients this role also requires the ISVA to focus on supporting clients with a wide range of disabilities, both physical and hidden.
Being an experienced ISVA, you will conduct risk assessments and assess the specific needs of people who have suffered sexual violence. Your willbe able to to develop individual service plans that address these risks and needs. You will have a proven track record of working with high and complex cases and have demonstrated resilience in your professional life, enabling you to work effectively under pressure. You will have extensive experience working with vulnerable clients and possess the skills to maintain professional boundaries working alongside them.
You will also be adept at working in a trauma-informed manner, acknowledging that trauma can impact victims in different ways, and offering support with this as a priority. As an advocate for sexual violence survivors/victims, you will work to promote their confidence, resilience, and empowerment both within and outside of the criminal justice system.
You will provide non-therapeutic support to victims/survivors.
You will be required to attend relevant meetings and will provide regular reports to your line manager and also undertake talks and presentations to local groups and agencies on the work of Victim Support. You will be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with people from all areas of the community and be able to assist with the monitoring, evaluation and administration of written statistical reports on the project management for our external funders.
You will offer guidance and support to clients in navigating the criminal justice process while ensuring their rights are protected in accordance with the Victims Code of Practice. You will provide victims with access to resources and support to help them through the criminal justice process.
