We are recruiting a policy officer to join our busy, supportive and high performing team. The current focus of this role is to support our analysis and influence of the national policy agenda on NHS funding and finances. This portfolio is one of the most high profile, broad and reactive areas of work in our organisation. In a given week you may be asked to do some of the following:
- Analyse a new piece of financial guidance for senior NHS leaders, and draft a briefing for members
- Devise a project plan, with support from the policy advisor, to gather insights from trust leaders on financial performance
- Write briefings for senior leaders at NHS Providers ahead of key stakeholder meetings, sometimes within tight deadlines
- Conduct research into a new policy area, and horizon-scan for upcoming milestones
- Collaborate with communications colleagues to draft a press release or blog about the financial and operational challenges facing trusts
- Organise logistics for a roundtable between our members and NHS England
Background knowledge of the NHS would be advantageous but is not essential for success in this role. The key requirements are set out in the person specification below, but particularly:
- to have an appreciation of the policy implications of the portfolio and interest in learning about the detail of these
- ability to organise your workload (with support from the policy advisor)
- strong written and verbal communication skills
- ability to build effective working relationships both within and, where appropriate, outside the organisation.

Key accountabilities:
The Manager will:
· Be an integral member of the team delivering Superkidz day to day activities and groups.
· Following consultation with staff service users and the Board prepare a strategy, financial and operational plan that best delivers impact in line with the TGIM theory of change. This should include locations, staffing, activities, income generation and should be fully costed.
· Lead the organisation in the implementation and further development of this strategy in consultation with the Board.
· Proactively use quality and impact information and strategic analysis to inform the development of new programmes of work that improve the lives of beneficiaries.
· Ensure that systems and processes are in place to manage, monitor and report on all compliance issues including; safeguarding, health and safety, and risk.
· Take accountability for financial decisions that protect the charity’s funds, ensuring the charity is sustainable and fulfils the requirements of the relevant regulatory bodies.
· Ensure that there is an appropriate funding strategy in place to secure the greatest possible diversity of income, through commissions, grants, donations, fundraising and social enterprise trading, and lead on the delivery of subsequent plans.
· Lead on the effective management of all aspects of Superkidz services and staff team, ensuring that staffing systems and procedures are up to date, regularly reviewed, and fulfil legal requirements.

· Develop and lead on an effective communications strategy, both internal and external.
· Lead on the strategy to assess and develop opportunities for collaborations, alliances, and partnerships that deliver increased impact and lead to financial sustainability.
· With the Fundraising Liaison Manager, demonstrate leadership in key strategic relationships with public bodies, funders, corporate sponsors and other external stakeholders, through a range of communications, networks and events.
· Ensure full, timely, accurate and effective communication with the Board of Trustees and any sub-committees of the Board.
· Ensure that all decisions made in the course of the role are made according to current legislation and in line with all instruments of governance.

Women’s Aid is the national charity working to end domestic abuse against women and children. We are a federation of over 170 organisations which provide just under 300 local lifesaving services to women and children across England. Purpose of the Public Affairs Officer role:
As the Public Affairs Officer in the External Affairs team at Women’s Aid, you will play a pivotal role in our government and parliamentary engagement work. This will include leading on monitoring parliamentary activity and identifying opportunities for Women’s Aid to influence the political agenda and ensure parliamentarians are kept up to date on issues related to domestic abuse. You will play a pivotal role in supporting our influencing work with the new government on key pieces of legislation, Women’s Aid’s next big campaign and assisting Women’s Aid’s secretariat role to the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Domestic Violence and Abuse. Key duties and responsibilities of the Public Affairs Officer:
- Carry out regular political monitoring, keeping the team updated with important developments for Women’s Aid, identifying opportunities for influence and providing analysis on policy announcements.
- Draft newsletters, correspondence, and website and social media content for parliamentarians, Women’s Aid’s member services and campaigners on a range of campaign and policy priorities.
- Support Women’s Aid’s work on key pieces of legislation - responding to queries, drafting briefings and parliamentary questions, working with Parliamentarians on draft amendments, and the development of joint sector work.
- Lead on projects that widen participation in Women’s Aid public affairs and campaigning work, including organising meetings with sector colleagues, survivors, and our member services.
What we are looking for in our Public Affairs Officer:
- Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to write copy for a range of audiences and formats, e.g., briefings, consultation submissions, correspondence and speaking notes.
- Experience of working in a political role or exposure within parliamentary institutions.
- Experience in liaising and working with external organisations and individuals, including via correspondence and joint working groups/joint sector meetings.

This role will support the delivery of our ambitious policy influencing programme, helping to implement influencing plans to bring about the changes needed to reduce, prevent and eventually end the need for food banks in the UK. The Public Affairs Officer will be responsible for planning, delivering and monitoring public affairs activity with a particular focus on the UK Parliament. This will include a focus on engaging with parliamentarians and policy influencers who are part of Christian communities.
Role responsibilities
· Planning and delivering impactful public affairs activity: Supporting the development and delivery of public affairs plans for key projects, including high profile policy influencing campaigns, and planning and delivering engaging events in Parliament and at party conferences.
· Build support for the Trussell Trust’s policy influencing goals among UK parliamentarians and policy influencers who are part of Christian communities: Working closely with the Church Engagement team to identify opportunities to engage key audiences and effectively communicate our policy asks and strategic goal to end the need for food banks.
· Supporting a strategic approach to public affairs activity: Making effective use of public affairs systems and processes, including stakeholder mapping and horizon scanning for opportunities to engage, mobilise and work with key audiences, including UK Parliamentarians, UK Government Ministers and advisers, and assessing their impact.
· Building and managing strong relationships with key external stakeholders: Developing relationships, partnerships and networks to help raise the profile, credibility and influence of the Trussell Trust and our policy positions, particularly in the UK Parliament and with faith-based organisations.
· Working closely across the wider organisation to support our policy influencing aims: Supporting key stakeholders across the Trussell Trust to plan, deliver and participate in the Trussell Trust’s policy influencing work, including senior leaders, people with lived experience of poverty and food bank staff and volunteers.
· Building awareness of our public affairs activity and impact across the Trussell Trust: Providing accessible and engaging updates and insights from the UK Parliament and Government relating to key policy areas and helping ensure alignment with public affairs activity across the UK’s nations and regions.
Person Specification
Technical skills and minimum knowledge:
· Experience of working or volunteering in a political, public affairs or policy environment

Key responsibilities
It is a hugely exciting time to be working in the online safety field. New regulation created by the Online Safety Act is set to significantly increase companies’ duties to keep users safe, especially children. At the same time, the online issues which families are contending with continue to evolve at pace: from mis- and dis-information in the age of generative AI, to increasing volumes of misogynistic online abuse, and data and privacy risks to name just a few.
There is cross-party consensus on the importance of tackling these issues, and a real appetite for practical, evidence-led solutions.
Against this backdrop, and ahead of a new government, Internet Matters is recruiting a Policy Manager to help ensure that our voice is heard in these conversations, advocating for the interests of children and families to be put first. This wide-ranging role will include:

Delivering policy projects on particular issues or themes (e.g. reports, briefings, roundtable events) – and supporting projects from other teams which have policy components. The successful candidate will author external-facing outputs, with support from the wider team.

Stakeholder engagement, public affairs and influencing – maintaining and developing a network of contacts across Government, Parliament, regulators, the third sector and industry. About you
The successful candidate will have professional experience of working in policy, public affairs, or a closely related field. Knowledge of online safety/tech policy would be beneficial, but is not a requirement.
You may have worked for another charity/not-for-profit, a trade association, in government or in Parliament. You are excited by the opportunities of working in a small organisation, where everyone lends a hand to deliver key priorities, and where you can contribute very actively to our wider thinking and strategy.
Sometimes your work may focus on one or two of the key responsibilities listed above more than the others, in line with organisational need and external developments. We are therefore looking for someone who is comfortable with embracing all aspects of the job, with support, even though you may well have a preference for (or greater experience in) certain aspects of it. We are particularly keen to hear from candidates who have experience of public affairs and influencing work, given that external outreach is likely to be a significant focus for us in the year ahead, but please do still apply if your experience lies more elsewhere (e.g. writing reports).

Skills and experience:

As the Policy, Public Affairs and Communications Manager for the Drive Partnership, you will lead our efforts to ensure that those with the ability to make change, because of the funding or policy making role they hold, understand the aims and vision of the Drive Partnership and what our data, practice expertise and the voice of survivors is telling us about how to stop domestic abuse in the UK.
In this role, offered a permanent post subject to funding, you will lead a team of two staff, develop our policy influencing capacity and support our national roll out of ground-breaking interventions to stop domestic abuse. You will also take responsibility for improving our internal communications, enhancing our reputation and supporting communications and relationships across the extensive Drive network of partners and beyond.
You will be an experienced public affairs specialist with a background in policy influencing and have extensive contacts. You will build relationships with and work to support Respect, SafeLives, and Social Finance’s public affairs and comms teams and key audiences across the partnership to enhance our influence, reputation and profile both locally and nationally, and maintain good relationships with others who currently work on public affairs and policy issues across the Drive and Respect networks of stakeholders and partners.
