The Foundation has a dedicated offering that facilitates access to legal support, tools and training for journalists and independent newsrooms in need, to help protect and defend them from the growing legal threats used to silence or punish their reporting on matters of public interest. As part of this, we have  expanded the TrustLaw service in Central and Eastern Europe to implement a flagship media freedom project focused on supporting journalists and media in exile.

The Foundation is recruiting a dynamic Legal Officer or Senior Legal Officer to expand the TrustLaw service in Central and Eastern Europe and support its flagship media freedom project focused on supporting journalists in exile. You will report to the Senior Legal Programme Manager, EMENA and work closely with the TrustLaw, Programmes and Media Freedoms teams. The position will be based in London.

About the Role

As a Legal Officer, you will: 

• Support the development of legal content for trainings and workshops that address the critical legal needs facing media outlets and journalists in exile. These are likely to include registration, employment, broadcasting and intellectual property law issues in new jurisdictions, to which they have relocated.

• Design, scope and oversee the development of tools, resources, and other content on key legal issues of relevance to journalists and independent media outlets in exile, such as setting up in new jurisdictions.

• Support the implementation of strategies to recruit, engage, partner and manage relationships with media outlets/NGOs and legal teams, in Central and Eastern Europe.

• Scope legal requests from media organisations and journalists, so that the requests clearly explain the legal needs for lawyers to advise on.

• Manage legal requests from media freedom organisations, journalists or outlets from inception to completion, including connecting our clients with lawyers in the TrustLaw network or other legal service providers, as appropriate, and follow up with the parties involved.

• Oversee, review and support the work of consultants and legal experts working on legal research, beneficiary needs assessments, issue mapping and content development.

• Support the development and implementation of a communications, engagement and outreach plan to media freedom and legal partners in the region, as needed, in collaboration with the Foundation’s Communications, Social and Media Freedom teams.

• Assist and support the project manager and TrustLaw team on the administrative, reporting, planning, monitoring, and logistical responsibilities linked to the role in a timely manner.

• Support the TrustLaw team on media freedom thought leadership projects and, as appropriate, represent TrustLaw by speaking publicly on our work at panels, conferences, or other speaking engagements.

• Travel, when safe to do so.

About You

To be our Legal Officer, you will likely have:

• Legal experience to degree level or equivalent, preferably in human rights and/or media law, with experience working either in a law firm, media house, or non-profit organisation

• Understanding of international standards on press freedom and/or the media law/policy landscape in Europe, specifically Central and Eastern Europe 

• Experience of project management or coordination, especially on donor-funded projects is highly desirable

• Excellent time management and organisational skills including the ability to effectively and independently manage multiple matters and projects in a fast-paced environment

• Excellent research, drafting and analytical skills, with experience in training strongly preferred

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills –able to establish and maintain positive working relationships both internally and externally, with people from a wide variety of cultures and backgrounds

• Experience in Salesforce would be favourable. Experience working with databases essential

• Fluency in English; working knowledge of Russian would be an advantage

• Proven ability to work in a large team with varied stakeholders

• Integrity, professional discretion and ability to handle confidential matters

• Willingness to travel internationally

• Pre-existing right to work in the UK.

This is a full-time fixed term contract until September 2026, based in London. The salary is relative to the charitable sector and will be commensurate with experience.

Specific responsibilities will include the following:

• Oversee and manage the distribution and administration of all grants within our programmes.
• Work with both the Programme and Philanthropy Teams to ensure all grants are matched with the relevant income stream.
• Oversee the grant admin work of programme officers to ensure accuracy and timely delivery of grant paperwork.
• Monitor and track grantee compliance with all report submissions and any other key deliverables.
• Manage the grant pipeline, reporting issues to the Programmes Team, working towards solutions with partners and enabling speedy grant giving.
• Support the Programme Team in development of rolling 3-year plans for funding, and liaise with Philanthropy Team to allow planning for fundraising.
• Provide advice and guidance to applicants and grantees on administrative procedures, policies and practices.
• Act as the internal point of contact for all grants in our database (Salesforce).
• Coordinate and deliver on reporting requirements to the Finance, Research, Operations and Risk teams for all grant giving.
• Support across teams as required on entry, cleaning, research and administration relating to data management.
• Work to develop processes and systems to improve efficiency.

• Grant management experience (at least 3 years).

Reporting, location, and work hours

This position is a permanent position that is based in Synchronicity Earth offices in Central London, with the option for hybrid office/home working if the successful applicant wishes with a minimum of 3 days a week in the office (laptop would be provided for home working). During a 6-month probationary period we would require 4 days per week in the office.  The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the UK until at least the end of 2028, we cannot accept applicants who require visa sponsorship for this role.

• Working within the Supporter Development Team to deliver a donor centric lifetime value optimised approach.
• Report on the targets and KPIs of campaign activity.
• Applying a test and learn strategy for supporter journeys, and sharing learnings with the Supporter Development Team, upskilling team knowledge and experience within key areas of delivery.
• Project managing campaigns and activity including expenditure budgets.
• Working closely and in partnership with The Donkey Sanctuary’s external agencies to deliver campaign activity.

About You

You will have:

• Demonstrable experience in managing fundraising or customer service campaigns and Activities.
• Project management experience.
• A proven track record of working within a team environment with complex internal stakeholders.
• Experience in managing direct marketing budgets and supporting direct marketing analysis to enhance the performance of channels, products, and specific appeals.
• Knowledge and experience of CRM systems.

This is an exciting and varied role to support the management and delivery of the Rufford Small Grants Programme, ensuring that grantees have support during implementation of their Rufford-funded projects and can potentially scale up their work through applications for further funding.
The Grants Officer will dedicate most of their time working within a small team to review applications, provide feedback to unsuccessful applicants, and assess progress and project delivery of successful grantees. Mostly, this will entail checking that applicants and their proposals fit our guidelines and then forwarding applications for technical review by external experts. Through internal discussions, the Grants Officer will also provide input into project review with other members of our conservation team. The assessment of Rufford Small Grants requires day-to-day administration, which is an essential part of this role.
The Grants Officer will also identify and support grantees to deliver in-person learning events, funded by The Rufford Foundation, to build the capacities of participants. The Grants Officer will be encouraged to bring new ideas to enhance the foundation’s small grants and grantee development work.
The Grants Officer will be involved in key events in the UK and potentially overseas (e.g., the Student Conference on Conservation Science and the International Congress for Conservation Biology) to conduct outreach on Rufford Small Grants, deliver workshops, discuss funding opportunities with new applicants and meet with existing and former grantees.

About the project  

Set up by the Southwark Community Refugee Forum, alongside Southwark local community and charity organisations. Kineara provides a weekly drop-in surgery at the St Giles Center giving support and advice to refugees struggling to find PRS due to many barriers, including language. In 2023 the collaboration was formed to respond to the increasing need for housing support to asylum seekers with newly granted refugee status after the Home office made changes to the way they process asylum seekers.   

After 9 months of delivery, we are excited to have secured funding to deliver this work fulltime alongside our PRS Renters Support Programme in Southwark. We will provide crucial crisis support to vulnerable renters and are looking for a passionate housing support worker to be part of the next phase of the project.   

About Kineara  

Kineara is a unique community interest company that supports people in poverty across London who facing barriers to housing, employment and education. We identify and address barriers by providing holistic support for families, vulnerable adults, and school pupils, and deliver intensive one-to-one interventions to those in need of extra help through challenging times. We use holistic, trauma-informed methods, partnership working and a flexible, non-judgemental approach that puts the needs of those we work with first.   

About the role  

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, and energetic support worker to take up a full-time role within our organisation as a Housing Support Practitioner in our small and dedicated team. The role will be based mostly in Southwark, and you will be working in partnership with the Council’s housing officers and resettlement workers, refugee support organisations, community services. The role involves coordinate tailored support for each client to find and sustain tenancies, mediating with landlords where necessary and providing housing advice. The objective of this programme is to support access to PRS properties, provide information about housing market and polices, help set up sustainable tenancies, increase employment opportunities, improve wellbeing, and increase educational outcomes. You will be working in partnership with other stakeholders, such as council and refugee support professionals to improve family health, build relationships and engage families and individuals and their networks of support.   

About you  

You will have experience of working with individuals with complex needs. You will be an enthusiastic person who is self-motivated, confident and thrives when working independently with a passion to support change. You will have excellent interpersonal skills, experience delivering holistic support, be a solution-minded thinker, have a good understanding of strength-based approaches and be able work sensitively and empathetically with people in vulnerable circumstances. You will also have experience working in a systemic and therapeutic way and ideally have trauma informed training or experience. It is also important to us that you have the competency to work with people from a variety of cultural backgrounds. To work as part of a team and independently, the roles require you to think creatively and use the resources around you effectively. A good understanding of one of the following languages is an advantage;

Off The Record South East Hampshire, a leading provider of emotional wellbeing and mental health support services for young people in the South East Hamphsire area, is seeking a Chief Executive Officer to lead an organisation that supports the local youth community.

Off The Record (OTR) has been active within the Havant and Portsmouth area for nearly fifty years and has a proven track record of delivering effective services through individual counselling and group work, including family counselling. The issues our young people often face include anxiety, family/friendship & relationship problems, anger, low self-esteem or mood.

The Chief Executive will be someone who has the skills and expertise to lead all aspects of the charity as it explores new directions, service lines and partnerships. The successful candidate will work with the board of trustees to help establish a community where young people are happy, independent, cherished and nurtured with a significantly improved sense of wellbeing.

We are looking for an influential and inspirational leader with a strong external focus and natural ability to engage. Excellent leadership, communication, administration, outcomes management and team-building skills are all a must.

To be considered for this post you must have proven management experience, professionalism, the ability to implement projects and plans to achieve targets and results, excellent communication skills, and the energy and commitment necessary to lead a busy charity at a key time in its development.

The successful candidate will have a strong track record of senior level operational and strategic leadership ideally, but not essentially, within the charity/social enterprise sector. You will also need experience of the financial management of an enterprise working with annual revenues in excess of £400k.

Experience in social care, well being and the mental health of young people is not essential but would also be a strong advantage.

Role Description

The Project Manager is an adept and organised professional, esteemed within the nuclear policy community for their level. Responsible for overseeing a discrete package of work, they must demonstrate a clear understanding and alignment with broader programme goals, strategies, and objectives. The role will report to the Programme Manager.

Taking charge of project deliverables, the Project Manager will navigate the entire project cycle, from generating fundraising ideas to developing them further and building knowledge of funding relationships. 

The Project Manager should possess a solid understanding of global security and conflict

resolution, coupled with a proven ability to design, and execute high-quality project management and research. The ideal candidate is an established researcher with a specialisation in nuclear weapons issues or whatever else is relevant to the project that they will be managing, and an emerging track record of policy relevant publications. 

The Project Manager will manage two BASIC projects concurrently:

1. The Peaceful Nuclear Technologies Portal (PEANUT, 2024-2025)

The PEANUT Portal will be a one-stop shop microsite featuring information about available civil nuclear science and technologies for the fulfilment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs or ‘Global Goals’). In this capacity, you will work with a subject matter expert (already appointed) to build the site and actively promote the site and peaceful nuclear technologies more generally amongst relevant States and multilateral conferences.

As Project Manager, you will oversee the successful completion of further funding for the PEANUT project for beyond March 2025.

2. ‘Scoping British Nuclear Weapons Harms’ (2024-2026). 

Scoping British Nuclear Harms is a two-year scoping inquiry into the humanitarian and environmental harms caused by the UK Government’s nuclear weapons programme since its genesis. The candidate will build on existing work by BASIC to develop a nuclear harm reduction framework, and develop national and international networks with others working on these issues to develop and promote this work.

The role requires a fundamental understanding of the UK’s nuclear weapons programme and history, and the Project Manager will have a professional background in nuclear science and/or technology. Ideally the Project Manager will also have experience with science communication. 

The Project Manager should possess the skills to expand their network in their area of specialisation, benefiting BASIC, and be capable of line managing other team members within their programme. 

This role necessitates a formal project or programme management qualification – BASIC will provide the Project Manager with such training and qualifications if they do not already possess one. The Project Manager will collaborate with their line manager to identify a professional development plan, closing skills gaps and aspiring to become an internationally respected leader in their field.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

1. Project Delivery

Applicants will need to be able to demonstrate the ability to:

• Manage project timelines, budgets, and reporting requirements

• Line manage, mentor/coach, and provide pastoral care for the project team: policy fellows, project assistants and interns

• Write high-quality, policy-relevant research reports, op-eds and briefings

• Organise international roundtables, workshops and other events with track 1 and 2 participants

• Manage relationships with stakeholders and build BASIC’s network and reputation

• Independently represent BASIC at international meetings

2. Fundraising

Applicants will need to be able to demonstrate the ability to:

• Develop a project, by independently and confidently scoping funding opportunities

• Liaise with the Programme Manager on funding priorities and opportunities

• Manage projects with minimal day-to-day manager input.

• Develop new and existing relationships with funders

• Write and edit funding applications

3. Communications

Applicants will need to be able to demonstrate the ability to:

• Collaborate with various stakeholders including international partners to build strong relationships.

• Facilitate dialogue and cooperation among diverse stakeholders.

• Promote our / their work confidently and internationally

• Educated to Master’s level – or demonstrate the equivalent in work experience

• 7+ years of work experience in a think tank, research institute, NGO, foundation or government working on international security issues

• Passion and commitment to our organisational mission of promoting dialogue to advance global security

• Demonstrated ability and track record in leading the creative development and delivery of policy projects in the UK or internationally, including budgeting and reporting

• Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders from a variety of professional and cultural backgrounds and with broad variations in seniority and function

A Bit about Us:

WellChild, based in the centre of Cheltenham, is the national charity for children with complex medical needs and their families. We fund programmes and services to make it possible for children and young people living with serious illness to be cared for at home instead of hospital.

The WellChild Family Tree is a growing network that exists to connect families across the UK caring for a child with complex health needs with each other and with WellChild. Through its online forum, and programme of activities and communications, it provides members with the opportunity to make friends, make memories and make a change.

What we are looking for:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and well organised person to join us as our Family Information Officer as part of our Family Team. Working alongside the Family Programme Team and wider Programmes Team, this role will fill a critical information gap for the families that WellChild supports and will help the charity attract new and harder to reach families into the WellChild Family Tree network.

Through becoming familiar with relevant policy and guidance for families caring for children with complex medical needs, you will be able to help identify the key issues facing our families and then curate the most relevant, up to date information from a variety of expert sources to help support them whilst also taking the lead on information projects aimed at helping families to thrive at home.

Purpose of the role:

Families thrust into a world of disability and complex care find themselves having to navigate their way through a ‘new normal’ with nowhere to go for relevant information and advice. The result leaves many unaware of their entitlements or the help that might be available. This puts many families under extreme pressure, leading to financial hardship, family breakdowns and emotional strain.

Working within the Family Team and reporting to the Family Programme Manager, this role will continue to develop and expand WellChild’s information provision. This will be achieved through research and delivery of information, tools and advice for families on subjects such as, but not limited to health, legal rights and entitlements, wellbeing and local services.
