Role Details

Bliss is the leading UK charity for babies born premature or sick, existing to give every baby who needs neonatal care the best chance of survival and quality of life. We do this by supporting families, campaigning for change, supporting professionals, and enabling life-changing research

We have a long and proud tradition of working with and supporting healthcare teams on neonatal units and across the neonatal community to work in partnership with parents and carers in the delivery of their baby’s care. We do this because evidence shows working in partnership improves babies’ outcomes.

The Healthcare Engagement Officer will coordinate Bliss’ work with healthcare professionals across the multi-disciplinary neonatal team to promote partnership with parents and carers.

For this period of 9 months, to cover maternity leave, the role will focus on:

• Ongoing communication with healthcare professionals
• Supporting Bliss’ relationships with key groups of nurses, doctors, allied health professionals, psychologists, health managers and others
• Overseeing Bliss' presence at external events including opportunities to present to or network with the wider neonatal community
• Overseeing the development and delivery of an online learning event for healthcare professionals

The role will also support ongoing work such as maintaining the relevant parts of the Bliss website, contributing to service development and cross-team projects.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

• Excellent interpersonal skills, with experience of communicating with a range of external stakeholders (including healthcare professionals) using a high level of professionalism.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including to represent Bliss with important external stakeholders.
• Demonstrable time management and organisational skills, and ability to coordinate several tasks at the same time and prioritise effectively across a busy workload.
• Ability to work independently but also to work cooperatively and collaboratively as part of a team, including with colleagues working remotely.

We’re an award-winning charity running local learning centres in the heart of the communities where the young people we support live. Our centres provide a high-impact education programme which includes practical learning support, pastoral care, and motivational and confidence-building activities for young people aged 7-18. We are seeking a talented Director of Development (maternity cover), fully committed to our widening participation cause, to join our Senior Leadership Team. Working with the Chief Development Officer, the postholder will coordinate all aspects of the charity’s fundraising function, joining the leadership of a highly successful fundraising team to meet and exceed its ambitious fundraising targets (currently £13m per annum from donations, grants and university partnerships - and projected to rise each year as the charity expands its reach)

Contract

Full-time, fixed-term until November 2025. This role may also be part-time (0.8 FTE) - responsibilities will be adjusted proportionally for part-time candidates.

We are a delivery organisation providing frontline educational services for young people. Our Head Office team is based on the site of our North Kensington centre in West London. Our Head Office team works in-person 4 days (or 3 days for a 0.8 FTE staff member) per week.

The main duties of the role

Working with the Chief Development Officer and Assistant Director of Development to oversee the charity’s fundraising operations, including:

• Leading the day-to-day active oversight and coordination of the charity’s fundraising operations (eg the management of prospect research and prioritisation, managing workflows, solicitation planning, ensuring effective stewardship of supporters, tracking and monitoring funding)
• Along with the Chief Development Officer and other members of the team, leading on fundraising bids, and supporting the fundraising team in their preparation of compelling and high-quality applications
• Supporting the fundraising team in the effective management and prioritisation of its prospect pipelines
• Ensuring effective solicitation planning across the team, from researching potential donors and the development of donor relationships, through to the design and implementation of solicitation and stewardship strategies
• Senior oversight within the fundraising team over the charity’s fundraising from Trusts and Foundations
• Ensuring effective stewardship of supporters is maintained and developed across the team
• Tracking and monitoring of funding, working closely with the finance team and ensuring that accurate records are maintained
• Coordination of the Trustee and Development working group meetings on fundraising, and implementation of agreed actions
• Managing a portfolio of strategic funders including high-net-worth donors, university partners and family foundations
• Taking on a leadership role on targeted fundraising campaigns, in particular in conjunction with university partners for multiple centres

About the Role

The primary focus of the Grants Officer is to support schools and youth organisations to operate the Jack Petchey Achievement Award scheme effectively and to promote, grow and deliver this and other JPF grant programmes across London and Essex. Although the geographical remit of each Grants officer can change on occasion, it is anticipated that this role will be responsible for the London Boroughs across North West and South West London, plus uniform youth groups who deliver their activities cross-borough.

The Achievement Award scheme is JPF’s flagship programme, with almost 2000 schemes in over 1400 schools, colleges and youth organisations across London and Essex. Through the programme, we invest millions of pounds each year to support young people and youth work. This is an amazing chance for you to have a big impact. The Achievement Award Scheme enables schools, colleges and youth organisations to recognise, reward and celebrate young people’s achievements. At JPF we are passionate about encouraging young people to raise their aspirations, believe in themselves and make a contribution to society. The post holder will manage delivery of the scheme and associated small grants in an assigned area of London and/or Essex. They will be responsible for maintaining positive relationships with schools and youth organisations in a dedicated area of London or Essex. The role will involve significant travel to visit schools and youth organisations, as well as outreach and community engagement work to identify and support new groups to apply to join our small grants schemes. This work will also include evenings and occasional weekend work, especially to support our Achievement Award celebration events.

The successful candidate would therefore be someone who has flexibility to travel, work out-of-office hours, enjoys building local relationships and public speaking, as well as navigating a busy grants and assessment caseload (desk-based processing, telephone calls/emails, and regular use of a database). Main Areas of Responsibility

1. To develop, manage and promote the Jack Petchey Achievement Award Scheme and other JPF opportunities.

1.1. Identify schools and youth organisations not currently running the scheme and proactively promote the Achievement Award (AA) scheme to them, following up as required.
1.2 Receive, assess and process all grant applications to join the AA scheme, in accordance with JPF policies and procedures.
1.3 Attend, participate and assist with delivery of Achievement Award celebration events (usually evenings), including making a speech to congratulate the young people.

2. Quality Assurance for the Jack Petchey Achievement Award Scheme

2.1 Support schools and youth organisations on the Jack Petchey Achievement Award (AA) scheme to operate the scheme to the highest possible standard.
2.2 Implement a programme of face-to-face and digital monitoring visits to schools and youth organisations in your area on the Jack Petchey Achievement Award scheme, to ensure that JPF funding is well spent and to identify opportunities to improve delivery.
2.3 Provide timely support to organisations so they are able to run the AA scheme effectively.
2.4 Organise and deliver digital and in-person events to support schools and youth organisations to operate the Jack Petchey Achievement Award scheme effectively.

3. To administer the Jack Petchey Foundation grant making process

3.1 Ensure accurate records are kept on the Foundation’s database (Salesforce), including up-to-date contact details and records of communication with groups in receipt of or applying for grants.
3.2 Approve/authorise payment of AA grants and related programmes in accordance with JPF policies.
3.3 Ensure appropriate grant reporting by schools and youth organisations and negotiate return of funds where a grant has not been used in accordance with conditions.
3.4 Proactively manage risk, being alert to potential fraud.
3.5 Ensure that clubs and groups receive all necessary materials to operate the Achievement Award scheme effectively. 3.6 Assess and approve Leader Award Grant, Educational Visit Grant and Environmental Grant applications in accordance with JPF policy.
3.7 Provide regular reports on the work for the Head of Grants Team, Chief Executive Officer and the JPF Board as required.

4. To promote the wider work of the Jack Petchey Foundation to schools and youth groups

4.1 Identify case studies and other stories and material that can be used for JPF communications, supporting communications team colleagues to raise awareness of our opportunities and impact.
4.2 Represent JPF at digital and physical events, local networks, funders’ fairs, and community or young people’s forums to help promote JPF’s small grant programmes and other opportunities.
4.3 Support and promote JPF’s partnership programmes, for example the Jack Petchey’s Speak Out Challenge, Step into Dance, Panathlon and First Give.
4.4 Contribute to the review of any small grant programmes as requested by the Head of Grants Team.
4.5 Assist with digital and face-to-face monitoring and reporting in relation to groups that have received a JPF Project Grant or other JPF funding. 

5 Other Responsibilities
5.1 Actively contribute to Grants and JPF Team meetings.
5.2 Take a lead on specific projects as agreed within the Grants Team.
5.3 Contribute to the assessment of other grant programmes as requested by the Head of Grants Team.
5.4 Provide telephone/email support and advice about JPF funding streams to existing grantees or potential applicants.
5.5 Work at all times within the policies, procedures and values of the Jack Petchey Foundation, in particular safeguarding, health and safety, and data protection policies.

These are the normal duties requires of the position. However, it is important that all staff are prepared to be flexible as they will be required from time to time to perform other duties.

The post holder will work as part of the wider team from the Jack Petchey Foundation headquarters in Canary Wharf with some home working possible within the framework of the JPF Hybrid Working Policy. You will be required to travel to attend visits, events and meetings, including at weekends and in the evenings. The Nuffield Council on Bioethics (NCOB) is looking for an enthusiastic, creative, and organised communications all-rounder to support our communication and engagement activities and assist in our mission to ‘Make Ethics Matter’.

The role

The Communications and Engagement Officer role combines work on events, stakeholder management, public affairs and communications, all seeking to build audience engagement and increase the profile and influence of the Nuffield Council on Bioethics.

The is a vital role within our Executive team, working across our priority areas and workstreams, with range of stakeholders, and utilising a variety of channels including in person and online events, website, email, social media and traditional media.

The Communications and Engagement Officer reports to the Senior Communications Manager and works closely with them across all communications functions. This post will have responsibility for updating our website, running our social media channels, producing internal and external newsletters and championing and maintaining our new brand identity, which is being introduced from November 2024. The post holder will also help to deliver our media relations and policy influencing activities, playing an active role in delivering media campaigns and in supporting our Parliamentary and Government engagement.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their skills across the full range of communications and engagement, working on projects and campaigns in the high-profile area of bioethics, and supporting our ambitious policy-influencing agenda. 

About you 

We are looking for someone with experience across the communications and engagement mix, including in events and internal communications, stakeholder management and digital and social media content creation. Our work focuses on research and policy in health and life sciences, and while you don’t need to be an expert in those areas, you should have an enthusiasm to develop knowledge of them and the ability to quickly get to grips with the landscape in which the Nuffield Council operates, our strategy and our target audiences. 

You will enjoy working in a team environment and will have excellent written and verbal communication skills. You will be confident working with a range of stakeholders, ranging from subject specialists and academics to policy makers, journalists and members of the public. We are seeking someone who can think creatively about communicating complex and technical research and can work independently on a range of projects. You will be highly organised, with good project management skills and the ability to prioritise and work across several projects at once. 

We are looking for someone with a creative mind, strong news sense and ability to tailor communications to the appropriate audience. You will be able to turn your hand to writing newsletter copy, consultation responses, stakeholder emails and event materials / briefings to a high standard. You will be able to distil key messages from our outputs and use them to create content for a range of communication channels and audiences. 

Ideally, you will have some experience of managing both online and face-to-face events. You will be confident working with audio visual equipment and systems and have experience of using data for analysis, reporting and evaluation. 

Stakeholder engagement is a big part of the role, so you will need some knowledge and experience of using databases/CRM systems to manage and report on stakeholder communications.

About the role:

The European College of Equine Internal Medicine (ECEIM) was established in 2000 and is a not-for-profit speciality college that oversees the training, examination and completion/maintenance of credential requirements of veterinarians who are equine internal medicine specialists, referred to as ECEIM Diplomates. Currently the college is run by a team of dedicated trustees and are eager to take the next step and create capacity for growth.

This is a brand new role and in which you will have the opportunity to shape and develop what a successful Chief Operating Officer looks like for this exciting and far reaching college. Your role will be to enable ECEIM to operate more effectively in order to facilitate the College’s growth, working with the board members to understand their vision, and work to enhance, develop and support on existing  key processes and procedures that help the college to run effectively. This role will ultimately support ECEIM’s mission and key objectives to advance equine internal medicine in Europe and increase the competency of those who practice in this field.

Whilst this role has an exciting future focus, a key part of your remit will be to oversee the day-to-day running of the college and help ensure everything is working well, keeping abreast of important deadlines such as key governance and compliance or liaising with external partner firms to ensure that they deliver key events on ECEIM’s behalf.

While much of your role may be administrative or operational in nature at first, there is also great scope to input into the colleges longer term strategic direction, all of which is leading to sustainable growth and increasing the impact of what ECEIM have set out to do.

About you:

You’ll bring both a practical and solutions based mindset as well as the ability to see the bigger picture in order to facilitate ECEIM’s longer term strategy. As this is a brand new role you will need to feel confident in the listening and learning phase as well as being able to see the improvements, recommend developments and create any next steps needed to support the ECEIM board and ultimately get the role off the ground.

You  will have the chance to utilise your experience in both big picture thinking, as well as your ability to design and develop processes and ways of working that will help ECEIM to take the next steps.

Using your excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills you’ll be able to foster positive relationships with volunteers, members and other professional bodies, including working directly with  ECEIM’s key committees, helping them stay connected, informed and working as best as they can.

You will also bring a strong financial awareness and both ‘know how’ to action financial processes, working with the treasurer, but also to be able to spot when specialist skills may be needed to support you. Experience with data analysis and reporting is essential.

Whilst it is advantageous for you to have held a similar role before, a background in project or programme management, leading a department, operations management or financial management could bring the blend of key skills that will help you be successful in this role.

An understanding of academia and the importance of professionalism, credentials and high level qualifications is helpful and while an understanding the importance of ECEIM’s mission and animal welfare is essential, you don't need to have necessarily had any experience in the animal welfare sector.

What we can offer you:

Salary: circa £30,000 to £32,000 per annum, actual (circa £56,000 to £60,000 FTE). This would be reviewed on an annual basis.

Location: Remote role, working from home. UK based.

Hours of work: Your contracted hours are 20 hours per week. Exact working pattern can be discussed with the successful candidate. With a role at this level you may be expected to be flexible with that pattern at times, and as ECEIM’s remit is across Europe and beyond, you may also have the opportunity to travel with the role.

Pension: ECEIM will provide a pension contribution of 3% of salary; the employee will contribute a minimum of 5% of salary.

Holiday: 28 days annual leave FTE pro rata, so 15 days for 20 hours per week; plus Bank Holidays.

Probation: The role is subject to a 6 months’ probationary period.

About ECEIM

The European College of Equine Internal Medicine (ECEIM) is a not-for-profit speciality college that oversees the training, examination and completion/maintenance of credential requirements of veterinarians who are equine internal medicine specialists.

The ECEIM was established in 2000 and in 2010 became a fully recognised member of the European Board of Veterinary Specialisation (EBVS), a regulatory Board of all European veterinary specialty colleges. As a recognised EBVS specialist in equine internal medicine serves the veterinary patient, its owner and the public by providing expert care for horses, ponies, donkeys, mules and other Equidae with medical diseases. Furthermore, an ECEIM Diplomate aims to increase the competency of those who practice in this field through training and dissemination of knowledge.

The ECEIM aims to encourage research and other contributions to the advancement of knowledge in this area and to assist this, arranges an annual international meeting where the latest research focusing on equine internal medicine is presented and new developments in this field shared with colleagues. The ECEIM actively works to help establish approved training programmes throughout Europe through  structured training programme.

The PR and Media Officer is responsible for developing and delivering PR activities to ensure effective communication with stakeholders, media and the public. A primary objective is to establish and raise the profile of KCLSU across media – trade, local and national. 

Working in a small team, the successful candidate will play a key role in delivering successful media campaigns and daily management of media enquiries, always in line with KCLSU's strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities include:

1. Raise KCLSU's profile, creating an understanding among key audiences by presenting the Student Union's core messages and services in specialist and mainstream print, broadcast, online and digital media.
2. Develop strong relationships with journalists/press agencies in both mainstream and Higher Education media.

5. Collaborate with student newspaper ROAR to promote upcoming events and other relevant KCLSU news.

An exceptional finance leader with proven experience of all the main elements of running and developing a finance function, including management and statutory accounts production, budget setting, forecasting, cashflow management, fund accounting and reserves monitoring.  In addition, the candidate will have experience of oversight of HR and IT functions, reporting to multiple boards, managing competing priorities and strategic leadership on the financial and operational elements of the business plan.
